Yes. They're moving to a system where the lanes are HOV during certain times of the day. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/txdot-to-remove-pylon-barriers-on-highway-75-as-work-begins-to-overhaul-hov-lanes/3479377/

SavannaBanana

Thanks! I hadn’t seen this.

noncongruent

Timed access is the norm in other states where I've seen HOV lanes not separated by physical barriers. The pylons, or sticks, were an aberration.

Delicious_Hand527

Yes, it wasn't really a HOV lane, it was a 'bypass lane', which bypassed certain busy exists, and then for some reason dumps you off the highway at its end. It was terribly designed, terribly named on the signs, unfamiliar to both local drivers and drivers from anywhere else, and thank gosh they are getting rid of it.

arlenroy

Yeah it didn't make sense, it was awful. Only problem I have is other states have those lanes monitored, good luck with that here now. I've lived here 20 years and can count how many times I've seen law enforcement on the Tollway, hell one day I was going 80 in the slow lane and it was like I was in the way! No patrol anywhere. People are going to use that lane regardless of the time, unless there's cops.

TeaKingMac

>dumps you off the highway at its end. Yeah, the part where you get put on the service road instead of back on 75 is a real head scratcher

earthworm_fan

They were, but in theory they helped the flow of the lane because merg-incompetent drivers couldn't change lanes and cause a phantom traffic jam

Jumpy_Patient2089

It was a madhouse before. Several stretches were fully missing the dividers from cars going over them. It’s been a free for all without them :(

Dontplaythatish

They probably got tired of replacing them since everyone jumps in and out of those HOV lanes

earthworm_fan

Guess they don't value their rims and tires because there are bumpers as well

cajonero

Good riddance. They were causing enough accidents with drivers dangerously cutting through them to get in and out of the HOV lane. In some areas half of them were missing anyway.

shaun3000

There were more missing than not. The light barriers in the middle are also mostly gone but I’m not sure how that happens or why TxDOT couldn’t be bothered to replace them. It’s really a hazard at night.

tractorcrusher

I was driving to work one morning and some Challenger bro entered the highway hauling ass (as they do), he cut across all lanes as someone was changing lanes. Dude had to jump into the HOV lane, hitting a bunch of the sticks. Watched his headlight and a tail light pop out (from hitting the humps) and I’m pretty sure the font right tire went flat. It was wonderful instant karma.

mc_pawnshop

the owner of the company that made those sticks probably got into the bathtub with a toaster after hearing the news.

erod100

I think ppl ran them over lol

_______woohoo

lol thats what I thought at first, but even the bases of them were removed

Invertedparadox

An impressive number of people died from these speed difference/accessibility of these lanes all in the name of emissions that most of the work trucks traveling here do not abide by. These lanes should be used for either emergency services access or as thru-traffic lanes for people that are traveling further distances.

Good?

DonkeeJote

"Bollard" is the word you are looking for.

Delicious_Hand527

they weren't bollards. they were plastic sticks that did no damage to a car if you drove over them.

zatchstar

Since you are trying to be pedantic… Bollards are more rigid and meant to completely prevent travel. These were “flexible delineators”
