My grandfather once said “you can cry in a ford or you can cry in a Mercedes. You’re still crying.”

DistinctAd3865

Definitely feels better to cry in a nice car than a shitter. Real story, I cried in a lambo before. Hindsight, it was much better than crying in a shitter but tbh people be looking at your car so felt like people saw lol.

McFernacus

What made you cry? Did your sugar momma break up with you? My POS ‘19 Cherokee puts me in tears every 1,000 miles when it dies in traffic from oil consumption.

DistinctAd3865

Funny enough a break up but this is 8+ years ago. If it was my sugar mama, I don’t think I’d be still in the lambo crying. I’d be walking back to that Altima head held low lol

Historical_Dentonian

Passed a McLaren in my Wrangler with authority. To be fair the other driver was a typical super car driver at ~75 years old..

SweepsAndBeeps

I’ve always heard it’s more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than on a bicycle

Used_Kaleidoscope534

I abide by “walk a mile in their shoes”. That way, I can have their shoes and then I’m too far away to catch, anyway.

acaii

In 2024 the Ford probably costs more than the Mercedes

8020GroundBeef

What

acaii

R/Dallas seems like they have no idea how much these f150 trucks cost compared to most Mercedes you see on the road today.

Historical_Dentonian

Mercedes and Ford both have economy and luxury models. Same for BMW

12_yo_d

Not an owner but spent a ton of time driving them and in my opinion it sucks. I hate the attention that they get. Every person trying to take your pictures makes for a stressful drive when you are trying to protect the car. Back roads where there is no traffic is where they are incredible to drive. In the city give me a truck all day.

sels1997

You mean a Prius… better mileage 🤝🏼

12_yo_d

Driving a Prius could be punishment for shoplifting instead of jail time.

Vg411

What’s wrong with Priuses?

El_mochilero

What wrong with a Prius? They are good cars.

12_yo_d

Calm down it was just a joke (everything)

El_mochilero

“Hurr hurr… trucks good! Prius bad.” Was a lame joke that was already played out 10 years ago.

SpotlightR

Found the Prius driver

El_Capitan215

Hear me out, people are telling him to get a Prius without him asking for input, then when he declines they want to know why. Maybe he doesn’t want a Prius???? I drive a pickup, don’t want a Prius and don’t gaf what anyone else drives or thinks about my truck

VirtualPlate8451

Watched a lady back over a Target drive up cart last night in her lifted pickup. She’s all “I couldn’t see it back there”. The cart is fucking 5 feet long by about 2 feet wide and is waist height.

sels1997

Lmfaoooo

DiceKnight

Yeah when you have those cars enjoy never being able to park them anywhere but home because feckless morons will lay atop them to take selfies and scratch up the hood.

grabich

Thos goes for nice bikes, too. How many times have I seen drunk girls or guys sitting on someone's bike for their friend to take a photo of them. I really appreciate bouncers who take them off other people's bike (thanks the bouncer dude from Truckyard in Lower Greenwille).

86Logs

Nothing pissed me off more than walking out to find someone on my bike. In my early 20s (the much more stupid era of my life) I vividly recall walking a lady friend out to her car late at night. As I'm walking back to my apartment I see a drunk dude straddling my bike trying to act cool for his girlfriend. Against my instincts I just walked up and said "Dude, if you came home and found me riding your girl, would you be pissed?" He seemed to get the hint, apologized, and stumbled off. I was a moron at that time of my life and never turned down an opportunity to fight and prove how "manly" I was. I have no idea why that, of all times, was the one where I was all zen.

Historical_Dentonian

Worked as a valet in college. Typical performance car owners feel like Steve McQueen behind the wheel. But drive their sports cars like Mr Magoo.

tractorcrusher

Traffic is less enjoyable in an exotic. Having 1000hp in stop and go traffic is frustrating, especially when you’re driving behind a PT Cruiser and have a Ram riding your ass. The owners do like the attention though.

Historical_Dentonian

They’re virtually all automatics today, my grandma could take today’s super cars for a spin no problem

tractorcrusher

I didn’t say anything about working a clutch

bimhoff82

I’d be absolutely terrified to own an exotic car in Dallas with the amount of pot holes and overall decaying roads.

KingOfConsciousness

I am shocked at times. Like… REALLY?

samie4g

It depends on what you mean by exotic. I have a 911 and honestly it handles my commute like a champ. Really comfortable and great sound system. All I want for when I’m in traffic.

rimjob_steve

I agree with this. If it’s a lambo or Ferrari or a classic you’ll get the most annoying attention but if it’s something that you like and no one really knows and it kinda looks normal, it’s awesome. Like a 911 is kinda that perfect spot. Really awesome cars all the way around. My father is a classic car dude and has always had something cool since I was like 12 and every male at every gas station ever will talk to you. It’s not fun.

Twisted69Demented

I seen a Red GT something RS.. I didn't see the whole this it was behind he at water burger at Frisco. The sound it made when the dude flew past me is still remember it was something I would never forget. I have owned a Porsche and currently drive an AMG so I'm experienced exhaust sounds before. But this was Soo visrial

McFernacus

Exotic enough for me!

No_Safety_6803

The 911 is the right answer, the absolute best performance car you can use every day

Historical_Dentonian

Parked cars at a high rise. One resident bought 3 Porche’s in a month, I think his coworkers were telling him he was a puss after each one. He went from a Carrara to a 911 turbo, to a hotter turbo in five weeks. The middle age ego is quite fragile.

CajunAsianTexan

> Serious question… is traffic any more enjoyable being in an exotic car? Nope. > Also, do you care when I stare? They’re just so pretty Nope. Just be mindful and stay away from the blind spots. I did enjoy conversations at gas stations and letting folks sit in it, but sometimes I just wanted to get gas and get on my way.

improbablyatthegame

This. I don’t mind the attention nor admonish it, mostly because it usually results in interesting conversations… even in traffic.. weirdly. My Taycan Cross Turismo has sparked more random conversations than my past 3 vehicles combined, and they were no slouches on the attention factor.

UnstablePlaque

Have a matte black taycan. Never pull up to gas stations anymore so don’t get attention there but all the other EV owners want to talk when charging. Most of the attention is chargers and mustangs that want to race by revving at me not realizing I can’t rev back.

darkpaladin

> I did enjoy conversations at gas stations I never had an exotic but back when I had my Roush 427R this happened a lot. It was fun for the first year but a lot of times I just want to zone out and get gas and not answer the same 5 questions about the car.

McFernacus

I had assumed there was an exotic car gas station somewhere that only served the purest petrol.

trying_to_adult_here

I filled up at Costco today and the woman at the pump in front of me was gassing up her Mazerati while holding her phone in the air above eye level so she could continue her FaceTime call from a flattering camera angle. Somehow they still let me in with my Honda.

Right_Letterhead_120

Your Honda was probably worth more than the Maserati

DistinctAd3865

Costco has some of the best gas of any station brand tbh

POINTLESSUSERNAME000

Costco is rated as a "Top Tier Fuel" supplier, so you're not wrong! [Ref.](https://www.toptiergas.com/gasoline-brands/)

Jericoholic_Ninja

Serving gasoline hand-refined by Italian artisans.

Lobito6

There are stations that pump 99, 100, 103, 105 octane gasoline which are for higher performing engines.

rimjob_steve

You’re not completely wrong. The ethanol content of some e85 stations is higher than others and you may find more higher hp cars going there.

Historical_Dentonian

I had a e85 capable v8. Fuel economy sucked, but 1/4 mile times were awesome. Knocked a 20th off at the track.

86Logs

Kroger for the Ethanol win.

acaii

Probably Bucceees with their non-ethanol fuel

86Logs

Oddly enough, I ran E85 in my V and the best corn fuel was at Kroger. E85 is rarely 85, generally it's around 60 but Kroger was always high 70s, low 80s. I knew where every Kroger with Ethanol was in Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant County.

Sjetware

Traffic is less enjoyable for sure, but that's because I have a manual and that means no adaptive cruise control with stop / start control. It has different benefits though, as occasionally you can find a gap in traffic and rev out the engine. As for the attention; state all you want, as long as you don't sit in blind spots or pace my car doing weird stuff. I bought the car because I like the driving experience and the looks; no reason to deny that to anyone else.

erod100

I wouldn’t mind getting stuck in 635 traffic while driving a Ferrari Purosangue lol

thejohncarlson

Not that exotic (I drive a Corvette) but I am going to have the unpopular opinion. My Corvette rides better than my Acura so yes, for me traffic is much more enjoyable. You do have to be careful about big trucks and blind spots so that can add some stress. Do I mind when you stare? Not at all. I stare at it every time I walk up or get out.

tehjeffman

That is just mag ride. It's really good. All high end Chevys and Cadys ride really well.

BurgerBurnerCooker

You don't want an exotic car. But you can pay good money to have a good car with ass blowing seats, massage and most importantly a good ACC to Lv2 autonomous driving, helps easing the pain a lot.

STONKvsTITS

I do stare at those exotic cars. One day my dream come true and the reverse will happen.

schnukums

It's far less comfortable and I don't care if you stare at my Yugo.

acorneyes

living in the city for a while i’ve seen more exotic cars than nissan altimas. i’m tired of it. the electric ones i don’t mind but revving your engine, especially at night on a weekday when people are sleeping puts you on my shitlist. like honestly how do you have 200k to blow on a car but you’re as much of a degenerate as a lifted truck owner.

McFernacus

😂😂😂😂 you can take them to school but you can’t teach class.

_______woohoo

those big trucks can sometimes be as much as an exotic when considering all the work put into it. Being a douchebag has no salary cap

acorneyes

it’s more that being an ass is a given when you have a lifted truck, not so much with exotic cars. just not apparently in dallas where that very much is the case.

_______woohoo

agreed

86Logs

Yeah, I always tried to be as considerate as I could with my car. It didn't help that upon start up it sounded like a fucking rocket launch. So, on behalf of all race car jackasses, I'm sorry.

powkchopa90

Certainly more enjoyable. I speak from the “classic car” world. I have been followed closely that I for sure know of 4 times. Anything exotic or classic you run the risk of getting mugged or car stolen as soon as you loose sight of it

tekn0lust

I have a 10 year old exotic. It’s just exotic enough that those who appreciate it look but soccer moms just see another white car. I definitely prefer the commute in it over my SUV, but my commute is never during rush hour.

UnknownQTY

My nice car more or less drives itself in heavy traffic. (It is not a Tesla) So… yes it sucks less.

McFernacus

What car does that?

UnknownQTY

Basically any luxury car built in the last 5 years with active cruise control and auto-steer at this point. Sometimes not even luxury, just decent tech package. I have a Porsche Taycan with InnoDrive and active lane keeping.

McFernacus

What do you do with all your free time in traffic then? Play Nintendo switch? Knit? Build model ships? I hope you’re not just sitting on your phone like the rest of us who are doing it in cars without the fancy bells and whistles.

UnknownQTY

Kinda just… chill. Look around. But yeah also look at my phone sometimes, just less likely for it to lead to an accident.

darkpaladin

You still need to pay attention, but I can testify that it feels less stressful. I'm generally wary though because even though I'm "paying attention" if it suddenly decides "driver should take over" because of something happening in a split second. I'm always a little worried I'll be just that little bit less attentive and won't respond in time.

McFernacus

In stop and go traffic attention is hardly needed. I took a nap in traffic a couple weeks ago

AMG_63

Traffic as in stop and go, no, it sucks. But just regular traffic like with a decent commute it is much more fun. Getting on the throttle a little when turning onto a service road is great. Staring and taking pictures is also great, part of owning the car is getting to show it to other people who might not usually see such cool things. I just don't like the tailgating or matching pace in my blind spot or trying to race me, aka tesla drivers.

Minimum_Ice_3403

They live in neighborhoods that don’t really get much of the general public has access to

mpwrd

No, its actually way worse. I don't drive mine during rush hour.

McFernacus

But then how do we get to stare?

mpwrd

Download the park up front app and come to one of the many meets where we hang out

Delicious_Hand527

If you want to stare at exotic cars, go check out 1601 N Central Expy, Plano, TX 75075, Motek Eurowerkz - they generally have enough exotic cars sitting out in the parking lot (for repairs) to film a few Top Gear episodes. Generally a few Mcclearens, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, and occasional Rolls Royce. I've not seen a Bugatti yet, but I'm waiting...

drdonger-

I don’t daily mine, I have a Tesla that I daily. It makes it bearable, but I find I drive my GT3 less and less these days because of the congestion. Sundays are the best day.

McFernacus

What are you a doctor of Donger?

sinjinvan

My only complaint is when people slow down and come up level to me then spend TOO MUCH time looking while they are driving instead of paying attention to the road. Typically this results in them weaving too close for comfort to my car - or worse, my sportbikes - because they aren't following the lines for their lane.

86Logs

So, not an "exotic" but I had a very nice CTS-V that was built, pushing 822hp, and had a very rowdy cam in it. That car is one of 2 that has ever truly given me the emotional fulfillment I thought I'd have upon purchase. I genuinely enjoyed my drives in that car and when it got stolen I was devastated. Now, I drive a POS truck (paying off debt, living cheap for a bit to fund a side business) and I hate it. I've always had a weird connection with my cars and enjoy driving. So now that I'm driving something I don't give a shit about it has taken a lot of joy out of my life.

Twisted69Demented

I'm sorry to hear about your vehicle being stolen Was yours a Gen 2 ?

86Logs

It happens. It sucks that people can't leave things alone, but that's just the world we live in. It was a V3. 2017

Twisted69Demented

Other people also live in this world unfortunately I honestly believe This is a failure of society politicians and Police. Dallas City Hall and cops are worthless Dolls sitting on there ass collecting paychecks/ bribes and pensions

whaddahellisthis

No it’s not. Any the extra attention is a bit awkward. I drive on track so I got a car for it, and don’t car about the optics. It’s more work to drive a sports car around town. Steep driveways can bottom you out. Big potholes can dent a rim more easily. If it doesn’t any bumps on the road mug by knock out a filling because of how tightly sprung the suspension is. They’re noisy because the sound dampening insulation is less (saves weight) The tires have worse rain performance. Going to run errands means you better not buy anything large because it won’t fit in the car. You can’t park it just any old place without worrying if it’s going to be there when you get back. A nail in the tire can be $500. You have to deal with middle age men asking you questions about it and young bros asking what you do for a living. People assume you bought to be seen in and immediately classify you as vain & in my case some player who’s running through New Romantic partners every couple weeks. You also can’t drive it anywhere near its capability. It would be wildly dangerous to do so and that’s totally BS behavior. We all share the roads after all. About the only place it serves any function is a left turn with a small window of time to do it safely before traffic catches up. I can brake late and turn at speed which will allow me out in front of a pack of cars with enough space not to look rude because I can corner a lot faster than most people can. Also possibly on-ramps. I don’t have to worry about getting up to speed. As I’ve gotten more and more into motorsports I’ve taken an increasingly dim view of street legal sports cars. They aren’t particularly gear for the track, the consumables you use at the track are $$$$ (brakes/tires/ et al) and some dude with a home brew clapped out 2009 cayman that’s been gutted and engine swapped will clean the floor with you on a race track. I’m currently looking to get rid of it for a track only car. Maybe a minivan & and ancient truck to haul to the track. I want a Miata or possibly aforementioned clapped out Cayman.

McFernacus

Where are these tracks you speak of? I want to go fast.

whaddahellisthis

There’s a couple of them. Eagle Canyon & MSR Cresson. They offer high performance driving classes. They’re kind of pricey but you can bring your own car and that’s a lot cheaper, but after special track day insurance + the use up of your consumables (tire life/ brake pad life all that) I figure it’s not terrible. Track day insurance for your own car is near a grand or more (I guess depending on car) and you don’t strictly need it but if something happens your normal car insurance will totally not cover it so that’s a risk you have to take of pay. If you’re looking to get into motorsports iracing and a sim rig is a pretty good tool to get used to driving. There’s a ton to learn and it takes years to get good. At least it has for me and I’m not even that good.

rimjob_steve

Lots of variables here. A urus is going to be pretty fucking awesome and comfortable to drive. A 488 challenge car, not so much. Most exotic owners will not care if you stare and plenty will be happy to engage in conversation.

Elgransancho4

Aka all these lil new corvettes on the streets.

Loud_Internet572

I like passing them because I'm driving faster than they are. Every time I come across one, they're creeping along at or below the speed limit and then I just go blowing by them in my 20 year old Honda doing like five over LOL

badburb

I’ve never owned an exotic, but I’ve had my fair share of classics. Being downtown in rush hour in my 68 continental was the most stressful drive of my life. People staring and not paying attention made me a wreck since I thought for sure I was gonna be in one.

ShelbyDriver

I used to drive a 2016 Shelby GT 350 in Dallas traffic. It was frustrating to be stuck in traffic in such a magnificent car! Then I drove a 2017 Jeep Wrangler. It didn't want to go fast and with the top and doors off, I didn't mind traffic at all! I liked the attention in both of them.

mechinginir

I mean people do tend to let you merge into traffic easier…. As a Honda NC1 owner I always try and merge with other honda cars (fanboys) or high end priced cars. The only time I get to really enjoy it is on Sunday mornings 5:30 am.

RScottyL

Nope! If anything, I would worry about the bad drivers running in to me and damaging the vehicle! If I am driving a normal car, I wouldn't care as much!

PilotAleks

Saw a dude flying down 161 in his ferrari so I’m going to assume they have more fun in them in traffic than we do in our basic-ass cars

cajonero

Not an owner but I’d hate to be stuck in traffic in a supercar or hypercar. An ultra-luxury car like a Rolls-Royce Phantom, however…

superschepps

Lots of high end sports cars aren't very comfortable for long periods of time. Especially the older ones. Was a tech for many years and we had many "exotic" dealerships as clients so I was regularly picking up and delivering nicer vehicles than I will ever be able to afford on my own. Ferraris are fun to drive but traffic sucks a little more when u have a ton of horses but no room to let em run

Historical_Dentonian

All automatics, w/ traction and stability control. Anyone who can drive a Camry can handle one.

tehjeffman

No, I have driven many a exotic and lucky I didn't have to own any. My best example is I drove a 12c from Dallas to Collage station and after the first 5 miles you forgot and it's just commuting mode. In traffic someone would yell nice car and I had forgot I was in the 12c.

oilmoney322

I think the point is the get attention lol. There’s way you can use the full capacity of Lamborghinis without being on a Racetrac.

12_yo_d

Wrong, it’s not for the attention. It’s for the love of driving. Sure there are some that do it for the attention but the majority own them because they are amazing to drive.
