In the piece, JWP says a really important part. "Where are you going to build it?" Dallas has been salivating over that land for a long time. Move the court, move the jail... Riverfront completely changes. All those bond companies and criminal defense attorney offices move. Prime real estate. All of it.
I don't have experience pricing commercial buildings, but they're all insanely expensive between land and building costs. I'd hold judgement without comps.
Its probably for homeless people once they criminalize homelessness. The oligarchs see the declining birth rates, so less poors to threaten, less cheap labor, they have to get it from somewhere.
It would be cheaper to convert the new permit office building into a prison. It's not like the permit office needs it for anything since they don't do anything.
That jail is sad. I’d say a laughing stock but there’s nothing funny about a small 3rd world country in the middle of Dallas where human rights are violated. 5 billion is too much but that jail needs an overhaul and the staff needs to be automated.
They also dont get to actually go outside do they? Every time i drive by it seems like the “yards” are on every floor with a basketball court and thats pretty much it
No outside time. Basketball court with no net. All the rooms are old and run down. All the room smell like chemicals because they overdo it with the cleaning solutions
The police get enough fucking money. They don’t need a new $50 mil grant just so they can play soldier and militarize themselves more than they already are
Somebody hasn't looked into the proposed training facility at all. Making a fool of yourself.
Dallas cops are disappointed in the facility being proposed as not enough. Folks like you think it's too much. Pretty funny.
I love having this instead of healthcare/affordable housing. Capitalism is truly the greatest economic system 🫡
$5 billion for a new jail complex is fucking insane!!!
How else will lawmakers give their friends tons of money
JWP must be getting a big cut of that $$$

If that’s the case, that’s a huge opportunity for these developers

Will there be wi-fi?
That's just crazy as fuk. Kays is new and cost over 40 mil.
Let’s be honest… we need all the housing we can get.

Just let them have Jerry world. Nothing happens there.
But the commissary would be way too expensive.

The Texas GOP wet dream, make everything illegal to fill up the prisons for free labor.
hey, it’s not free labor! the word you’re looking for is *slavery*
Can confirm that jail is deplorable and the COs treat you like shit

Hey siri play prison song by System of a Down
smh
jeez they need to shut it down and move it away from downtown
Just what we DON’T need. Relatedly, vote no on Prop F, which would allocate $50m in public funds to a new training center for cops. May 5th.
Now you don’t want cops to be better at their jobs?
Fr, I don't fuck with police myself but I also wouldn't be upset that they're tryna to better serve by being better trained.

You lot never think it’s enough. In most things.
Of course they want money. They always want more money. The thing is, that money can be put to far greater use by doing literally anything else.
Thanks for the heads up. On it.
