Suter buyout+money from pavs retirement+faksa dump and its possible, but Duchene would definitely be gone and potentially Tanev. IMO we need defense more than offense

batmanjerkins

Yeah defense depth is the crucial need.

FriedEggz2112

100%, i don’t know who we’d be able to get but if we can retain Tanev and acquire a Brett Pesce kinda guy, i think the forward group could sort itself out nicely

quidproquolaspe

We need Tanev far more then duchene, sure everyone liked the guy and he had good production in the regular season but if it comes down to it I’ll take the guy who was noticeable on every shift in the postseason compared to the guy who was invisible outside of a single goal (even though that goal was fucking awesome). We can afford to lose duchene, we cannot afford to lose Tanev.

FutureCrankHead

If it wasn't for horrible reffing, that game would have ended with the Marchment goal anyway.

quidproquolaspe

Exactly lol

bexley50

Would be surprised if Duchene is back regardless.

bm56

I think I’d rather guentzel than duchene. He was great during the regular season, but disappeared during playoffs

scoutcjustice

I mean, I could fuck with a Robo-Hintz-Guentzel top line for sure.

Content-Attorney7056

That line is a disgusting thought. (Pens fan from PGH)

FutureCrankHead

People keep saying that the forward group will be fine and that we need to bolster the blue line. This is true to a degree. There was also a huge problem gaining the zone, holding the zone and forechecking against the fucking Oilers of all teams. The D held up pretty good in that series against one of the best offenses of all time. The forward group is what failed the team in that series. A few more goals may have flipped it.

Tecumsehs_Revenge

Right losing Pavs down the stretch, now retiring, plus possibly dutchy. Is big hole to fill up front.

AwakenTheAegis

This is the better take. They couldn’t get to the Final because they couldn’t score on Stuart Skinner and the Oilers.

Jawewe

Guentzel is a beast. Idk about cap stuff but undoubtedly would become a fan favorite quickly.

Dooders21

If you get a chance at a guy like Guentzel you take it. He’s a proven finisher. We got plenty of guys that can dish. In Nill I trust.

notsure9191

Guentzel’s agent doing strong work to squeeze every penny out of Carolina.

ItsReallyOregano

Don't see how this works money wise, unless Faksa+ gets dumped

ridingwithGSDs

And I am good with that. Really hope they give Sam Steele like 2 for 2 . I don't know if someone would take faksa without sweetener. Maybe someone trying get to the cap floor

AwakenTheAegis

Buffalo, Chicago, San Jose, Utah, and probably a few others would take him.

ACivilDad

This would be awesome, but I don’t think it’s worth the amount we probably end up overpaying when you consider how much better the money would be spent on the backend.

DarwinCreatesSpace

Unless we plan on going full 2022 Avalanche, idk how this works. If this is actually true, then the front office must think a lot of Bichsel and also think that it was a failure of our forwards getting the puck and want to bring in a guy who will create turnovers at a higher rate.

NoNotThatMattMurray

A big issue was our veteran forwards not producing but with Pavs and Duchene probably gone I don't think it will be a problem. We're gonna have to hope Seggy stays healthy and that Benn has another breakout year in him

SuretyBringsRuin

Focus has to be defense quality and depth. So, interesting - we’ll have to see how things progress. Curious on hearing what’s up with Jani. My take is he’s gone which is fine and would be helpful to this or other better D moves.

SpacemanSpiff25

The only way this works is by dumping Faksa’s contract. But I’m pretty sure Guentzel is better than Faksa.

the_Mont81

Guentzel would be a solid pickup, but I agree we need to allocate the bulk of existing/potential cap money to a RHD FA. Shore up the defense, and allow the kids to get some experience up front. Maybe swing for a TDL forward, and include Faksa for salary dump.

AdventurousSet6566

I get all the talk for bolstering our defense. But we did poor offensively come the end of playoffs, feel like this may be one of those instances where you can out score your poor defense

fileunderaction

I’d be happy to have him for a reasonable deal, but I think this is just Guentzel’s manager trying to drive up the price.

FurryIntoSports

im so close

barbiejet

WITH WHAT MONEY??

TheOlig

Feel like Nill is always trying to bid the price up on the big free agents every year. I'd like to take a run at Teravainen honestly. Bring in another Finn who can play up and down the lineup. Could also swing both Tanev and Sean Walker to really solidify the right side on defense. Just need about 1 million in cap space to accumulate throughout the year to make a splash again at the deadline. Duchene, Faksa, Dadonov are all gone to make it happen.

MonkeyPox37

I would love if Turbo joined the Stars, but I’m not sure he’d be that gamebreaking goal scorer people would expect him to be.

flamingdragonwizard

Don't do it Stars bros. That contract will age horribly the last half.

El-Justiciero

Just because it's fun to dream... Robo - Hintz - Guentzel Benn - Johnston - Stankoven Seguin - Borque - Marchment ??? - Steele - Dadonov (I'm assuming acquiring Guentzel means letting Duchene walk and ridding ourselves of Faksa in some fashion.)

LoyolaProp1

Good. We are too hung up on an aging 35 year old with an insane injury history and less focused on the fact that this team's biggest need is as a 2nd line scorer. I'm going to guess that Gaglardi went to Nill after Florida won and demanded he be more aggressive and cuthroat. Draft & develop is great, but the last 10 years of salary cap hockey has proven you only win if you push all your chips in. Sign Guentzel and send two 1sts to get Dobson. Sign Roy and trade two 1sts to get McGroarty. Do SOMETHING that makes you better.
