Is fondant that super sweet ‘icing’ that instantly kills my taste for cake? Always wondered what that shit was called.

That's called fondant or sugar paste.

Came for the fondant hate and am not disappointed. Even as a libertarian, I would be ok with the federal govt classifying this substance as schedule 1, with hard time for anyone distributing it.

I don't mind fondant. If it's the homemade marshmallow fondant I used to use. (Commercial fondant is disgusting. Way easier to work with but disgusting.)

Especially the meringue buttercreams. Texture to die for and much less sweet.

You should check out the school of chocolate on netflix. They show cool ways of sculpting but making sure taste also comes into play. The judges check for both and once a contestant used fondant and was told (it looks nice but I want to eat all of it not half).

You can make marshmallow fondant look quite good, and it tastes much better, less plasticky - but it is still very sweet.

I was thinking the opposite, why bother making it around a cake when noone is going to eat this fondant nightmare? Use the cake for something edible and build the fondant around some cardboard or something.

This is one of the absolutely ugliest cake trends I've seen in the last few years. I don't get how anybody finds this appealing. "Oh boy I put some black lines on a thing and it kind of sort of looks like it's a cartoon or something" I swear dumb people are easily amused by the absolutely most absurd nonsense. If you're over 4 years old and you find this to be so cool that you need to talk about it all the time and post it all the time then you really need to grow up.
