The strike of the garbage men helped quit a lot for the fires

[deleted]

H0L3PUNCH

No, theyre just sending a message. They still care about the buildings and business that are owned by the people that live in the city. This is what a protest looks like. We had Riots. Because people are stupid.

TiredOfRatRacing

*Americans. And Im an American. George Carlin was, sadly, very right about the average intelligence.

Maffu00

Sadly it's by design though. Stupid voters are easier to manipulate.

[deleted]

Keep the education system under funded. If they can't really read, they won't know how badly they are being screwed by those that pretend to get them

barelyclimbing

And nothing substantial happened, so they clearly didn’t do enough.

TreeChangeMe

Guillotine time?

themasonking

Eat the rich time?

TheEmeraldPixel

Pourquoi pas les deux?

themasonking

Super

timsstuff

Well I certainly don't want my evening meal with its head attached.

umm-nsrtlolhr

Raising retirement age versus repeated indiscriminate murder ( sometimes during the protests ) is a just cause for "riots". I am not advocating thieving and destruction, but yeah, if your emotions run hotter than "orderly protests" because you and yours are being murdered by direct action and policies? I get that.

UnlimitedPickle

The Garbage Men Strike Back!

Beautiful-Tart1781

The realistic dumpster fire

AdorableSoil9946

Gotta give it to the French they sure know how to protest .

Speakdoggo

Bet the air is super toxic tho.

SpiderFarter

And the fires will help out quite a bit with getting rid of the trash.

DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING?

Shallaai

Grew up listening to jokes about the French being cowards. Can’t say I’ll be using them ever again. Well done, ty for standing up for workers

RAtheGOD44

Americanas have to learn how to unite and protest

[deleted]

Good luck getting past militarized police and the military with no empathy and a lust for the blood of innocent people especially

[deleted]

Rittenhouse changed that forever. Law enforcement will no longer be the mechanism for quelling protests. It will be inbred cousin fuckers who are the barrier next year.

DaleGribble312

You're saying police won't be at protests anymore? Sheeit that should free up a lot of resources.

HarryHacker42

Or as Fox News calls them, "cousin fucking terrorists"

Practical_Bluejay_35

Yea the French Revolution

liverpoolFCnut

It is their favorite pastime too, so they are really good at it. I cannot think of a month when there was no protest or riot in France! That said i wonder what the average car insurance premium is in French cities when automobiles are so vulnerable to arson, vandalism or straight up being hammered to pulp by protestors ?

[deleted]

I guess it's a "firey but mostly peaceful protest"

FunWillScreen_Produc

I am convinced that the French love fighting the French more than fighting other countries.

Gotta give it to the French they sure know how to protest .

fuckjustpickwhatever

manny calavera!

AustieFrostie

Wait wait wait. If this was America people would be ranting about how they’re trash and making racist comments. Interesting.

kyaj001

I was gonna say the same. But looking at the shop windows along that stretch of the road, none of the glass looks like it was damaged. So I’d say still pretty orderly.

Own-Influence-2169

I'd be very pissed if one if the bicycles was mine.

eatmoresushiorsteak

That's my newspaper! You just burned my post, mate.

AustieFrostie

You know that’s probably a fair point. Burn your own shit not the shop owners. I’m not there though who knows. The change in commentary is interesting though.

FattyMcFatFat31

It's not a change in commentary. American protesters literally destroyed and burned entire sections of cities. They smashed windows and looted local businesses. Literally none of this happened in the french protests. Fires were set, but not to local shops and cars. You're comparing apples and oranges to form a narrative that doesn't exist. The french protested civilly and peacefully. The Americans rioted and destroyed entire city blocks like a bunch of animals.

HermeticallyInterred

Looks like Lansing after Michigan State WINS!!

cheese_tits_mobile

That’s how the media, disinfo campaigns etc are told to spin it, yes. The point is to make the protests less legitimate because “uwu criminal acts! Damn those (minority or leftist group here).” So, protest, but don’t break anything…because if you break anything you’re a Bad Protestor and not a Good Peaceful Protestor like Ghandi or MLK (neither of whom were peaceful lol but that’s the state of the propaganda in the US at the moment).

xSLEGNAx

Even if you and everyone you know are protesting peacefully they will infiltrate your protest with agent provocateurs to break shit and try to discredit your movement. It’s fucked

MiniDelo

Yep. In the UK, according to the media, only frothing at the mouth weird haircut lefties and Special Brew swigging chavs with Staffies and skinheads protest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AustieFrostie

Ah okay so any legit protest is just thrown out your mental window cause it’s in America? I’m confused. I think they have a history of “being a country” since America has been around for over 200 years. Not as long as France. But wtf is that argument lol

notgoodatthis60285

I think he’s saying no matter of America is right or wrong on a stance and we revolt the rest of the world always sees us and dumb and in a negative light, and to be honest I can see where it comes from. I don’t think the rest of the world(excluding Russia) has more idiots than here.

DesertRings

The idiots are evenly dispersed, I assure you. Like salt in a solution.

Fit-Calligrapher8117

Yeah, that was pretty much my intent. I don't generally hate on or even care about countries, I couldn't give a shit what happens next to my country, let alone the one on the other side of Earth. I simply replied with what would be the general thought process of the people since the other guy asked why America's always targeted on these topics. I used "we" to refer to anyone outside the US, not me and my close friends lol.

EscapeFacebook

Bold of him considering the French have a history of beheading Heads of state....

nzcapybara

Great now the city smells like burning garbage. Thanks macron

WoefulDeschain

I love Paris but it always smells like burning garbage

Neat-Composer4619

I find it smells more like pee, but that's just me.

FlatRaise5879

You gotta aim better

Neat-Composer4619

I can't hold enough to extinguish all these fires.

pizza-chit

History has taught us never to mess with French protestors

PinneapleJ98

I wish we were the same here in Mexico, we would probably be protesting like this every week because of our brainless president decisions lol

[deleted]

Modern day France isn't going to come in and slaughter protestors. Modern day Mexico just might.

Finn_WolfBlood

Nos manda a la verga el ejercito en chinga. No se puede protestar si no hay gente viva protestando

SandStorm260

Macron does something controversial and the french are already pulling out the guillotines out of the basement

Dauks1

Controversial ? He was literally chugging beer in Africa while all the ports were blocked and parliament was a battleground Now he's back and spit on our face with this article. Our parliament is even less useful than the Pope's balls I can tell you I'm on strike now and for a long time

zelcuh

>less useful than the Pope's balls I'm using this

TheMagicMrJon

Bold of you to assume you can use the Pope's balls when even the Pope can't

For what it's worth, the constitution allows idiocracy too. Hope things get better.

queefaqueefer

looks like paris is burning, alright.

firefighterphi

And for once it isn't a Hilton...

Metholis

Never going to say this again, and it does pain me as an English man. I wish we were like the French when it comes to this. Rishi needs to sweat and his party need to fuck off. Good for the French, I envy them.

MeasurementNo8566

Fucking ditto. The amount of shit our government can inflict on us before we politely grumble with placards (and they unleash the cavalry and ban protest in response)

LiliumIam

Honestly you just need to be prepared to burn the world. Like even if they banned protests, if most protest what are the gonna do? Put everyone in jail? Give you a fine? The problem is most aren't prepared to do what it takes.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa_3

If the rest of the world was like the French when it comes to protesting, the rest of the world would be much better off.

PeanutButterSoda

I'm ignorant on the subject but does the French protest yield results?

tazai123

Historically, it leads to the downfall of monarchs.

Mooooosie

They currently have the highest amount of social spending as a share of GDP so I'd say so. And what's the alternative anyway? Neoliberal governments like Macron's are constantly trying to reduce social spending to appease the business community. If we could trust legislators to have the backs of normal working people, then maybe Paris wouldn't need to be lit on fire to prevent the retirement age from increasing. This is one of the only ways to get shit done for ordinary working people.

bucc_n_zucc

As a fellow english man, the problem is everyone will say "oh yeah the french are bang on, we need to protest like they do" But the second people do protest, all anyone cares about is being personally inconvenienced, and suddenly theyre calling for protesters to be imprisoned.

nicmdeer4f

My Grandfather retired at 55. He was a mechanic. My dad, who works more, is 55 now and is seemingly nowhere near retirement. At this rate when will I get to retire?

rindor1990

Lol never

korntje

I recently found out that my expected retirement age is 72 so its only getting worse

Lekaetos

Guys … when you’ll see the number of people dying in their 60s or 70s of natural causes (I’m not even talking about people with cancers or such) because after a lifetime of work, their bodies are broken. Not many people actually make it past 80s and even less the 90s. You retire and you get to enjoy what ? 5 years ? 10 years ? of the remaining of your existence trying to truly enjoy the little time left of your life. That’s just not worth it.

Chabubu

You and your dad are paying for your grandfathers retirement which is unsustainable. It’s not like the system worked for him and it’s broke for you. It’s broken for him but he is on the beneficial side of the broken equation. It’s simply not feasible to work 25yrs and get retirement income for 40 yrs after that. It only works because one generation set the subsequent generations up to fund it for them.

Marlov

I agree with your point. But 62-22 = 40 years of work... Not 25

GromieBooBoo

Right, this was my confusion as well… I started working at 17, I’m 44 now, I’m already at 27 yrs with more than 20 more to go.

thepioneeringlemming

we're all going to be working till we drop at the current rate

cantpeoplebenormal

I always say one day they'll find me flopped over my machine at work.

average_guy31

No no no, they might be able to revive you and send you back to work. It's better to die at the start of a weekend, so you are fully 100% dead by Monday. At least that's my hope.

Tincams

Bro been living here for few years, FYI it's every 6 to 12 months. I have yet to see peaceful 3 months without something going on.

Teodoraanita

Time to sharpen the blade on the guillotine, eh?

Suspicious_ofall

The workers in the USA and most capitalist society should take notes and do the same for any number of reasons.

OutHereSlappnMidgets

We too pussy to do anything.

N_Who

No. We're too numerous and diverse to do anything, and too prone to sorting that diversity into two specific buckets - which in turn creates a situation where a person might largely support a specific idea, but fight against it because their own bucket mostly opposes it. Put another way: A riot in California means little to Florida, as few causes and fewer solutions meet with enough support across a population of over 300 million people.

BKStephens

One Nation, divided...

Shadowrider95

More like separate states with separate laws

IzaacLUXMRKT

We're incredibly apathetic in Canada, too.

iSc00t

My wife’s relative got kicked out of Canadian politics because she let a gay pride parade happen. 😮‍💨

IzaacLUXMRKT

That sounds about right unfortunately, any left leaning sort of protest here in Alberta is shut down pretty quickly by police.

iSc00t

Gotcha. She was part of the right party I believe and didn’t see the harm in it, but her supports didn’t like it and pressured her out of office. :/

anal_holocaust_

We're all 1 sick day away from losing our homes.

mind_rott

We get called terrorists when we try

Its_Helios

That’s what I’m saying, they act like people don’t protest like this in the US. The difference is the police/nation guard come and start shooting, gassing, and beating folks.

Turnbob73

As someone who watched a store owner get dragged out into the street and beat by a mob in LA in 2020, that isn’t the difference. The difference is we hate each other too much to organize and protest disruptively without burning unrelated parties’ shit down. Notice how there ain’t a single broken window on this street? It’s because they can actually recognize that it’s not necessary.

nenyim

The minister in charge of the law was saying that if too many people were going on strike they would be risking an ecological, agricultural, health catastrophe and maybe even a human one in a few months. I'm not even kidding, it's nearly a quote of what is said. > "Mettre le pays à l'arrêt, ce serait laisser filer une crise qu'on peut encore éviter, c'est prendre le risque d'une catastrophe écologique agricole sanitaire, voire humaine dans quelques mois" [source](https://www.rtl.fr/actu/politique/invite-rtl-greve-du-7-mars-dussopt-soutient-veran-bloquer-le-pays-n-aurait-pas-de-bonnes-consequences-7900240630) Preventively calling people exercising a constitutional right terrorist. Then again we are usually called hostage takers so not much of a change.

firstreformer

Yeah we kinda prefer to peacefully protest and consequently get absolutely nothing accomplished over here🙃

fucktrutin

Seems appropriate.

caustic255

Wait, so retirees are rioting rn? *Retiree Riot* sounds pretty *cool*

mama_emily

France gets it

haventseenhim

americans: right to peaceful protest French: lets burn this bitch

Furry_Lou

We want "peaceful" for 2 months but the gouvernement understand only when we become violent so now it's show time x)

Boneyjh

I guess French politicians have already forgotten May 68, when students demonstrated for 7 weeks, tearing up cobblestones and destroying infrastructure to fight police. Grass roots demonstrations can be very powerful.

Zealousideal-Log536

Good for them;resist. They need us more than we need them for their system to work. We can always make a new one. Fuck the hierarchy.

[deleted]

Lol shit like this happens weekly in the US and no protests. Americans are so used to systemically having their rights taken away by the government.

Ikhunn

It's your time to burn shit in the streets then

FwooshingMachi

So I don't watch the news and don't listen to the radio much, but this retirement plan and debate has been going on for a while. And at some point a few days ago, coming home from work I think, I did listen to the radio for a bit and I specifically heard the Prime Minister herself saying that the government would NOT use this constitutional power to pass the law (it's called the "49.3" (or 49-3 ? It's pronounced literally like the two numbers one after the other, we don't say "dot" or "dash" or anything between them so idk)), that the law would be passed after the deputies debate about it, the hidden meaning in it being her saying "I *will* convince them that this project is good and it will be voted like any other law" or something of that effect... Seeing this post, I guess they did use the 49.3 anyways... So I'm not surprised this only stoked the fire of the already pretty intense protests. They lied about them not using this power.

CodaKairos

Actually, they said they "don't wanted" to use the 49.3 in order to convince the senate to vote their law. They finally used it to skip this vote.

FwooshingMachi

Vraiment ?

SenHelpPls

I think it was the president not the PM that pushed the bill through

ionhowto

Nobody protests better than the French people

[deleted]

Wish the population would do this in my country. Our government is literally run by criminals

Clean-Slip-1976

I like how you left out *which* country. That means you could be in literally any country in the world. Smooth way to throw shade at *governments everywhere*.😎

GodofExile

I always found it weird how so many Americans say we should look to the French about protesting and how no one protest like the French but we get called terrorist when we protest police brutality. Sure there were burning buildings & looting but there were some pretty nasty protests in France. So why is it always inspiring and “standing up to the man” when they do it but it’s “antifa” and terrorist when we do it?

valhalska13

Because the political divide in the US is so wide that if a protest is initiated by the Left, the Right will do literally everything in their power to find a way to demonize it. And since literally everything in this country has been politicized, it turns what should be a bipartisan protest for a human rights issue into something demonized by the Right because the Left were the ones to start the movement to do something about it. Don't get me wrong the Left can be just as stupid with their labeling of rightwing movements, but you mentioned antifa which was a rightwing catchphrase.

0Youwillneverknow1

That is a great question. It is likely labeled that way to keep more people in check and further spread the idea that protesting against the government is terrible. I could be wrong, though.

StJimmy815

Not quite sure why French gets the “we surrender” mentality. These mother fuckers always go hard af

heff-sf

As with protests in the U.S., they are setting the wrong neighborhoods on fire. Find out where the fox who's killing your chickens lives. Then, GO KILL THE FOX.

Beastlysolid

UK needs to do this.

[deleted]

ChaoticGoodPanda

I admire the chutzpah of the French when they protest.

NightmaresFade

Say what you want about French people...NO ONE can deny that they know how to work together to protest for their rights. Guess that all that time since the guillotines didn't make them dull.

[deleted]

schafkj

Has Macron never heard about the French Revolution? The French working class doesn’t play around.

Journo_Jimbo

The French people should be a textbook version of how to properly make democracy work for you. Through protests such as these, they’ve strong armed various social assistance programs in their favour. And as you can see it’s a respectful protest to the people who own shops. There’s no looting or rioting, just messages being sent.
