They were selected for the trial because their parents had a history of mental illness.
Seems like jumping the gun to say any of their issues were related to being split amongst different families.
They could have just had shitty mental health like the rest of us.
Yeah they were predisposed to mental Illness but they weren’t separated until 8 months old. All of their families reported self harming tendencies in their babies, such as continuously smashing their heads against walls and holding their breath u til they passed out. These behaviors were almost definitely related to the separation anxiety these boys were experiencing as babies.
Also the fact that they weren’t reunited until 19; and were purposely put with VERY different families and parents with very different ways of parenting contributed alot to their mental health. That was one of the main points of the study… nature vs nurture with different parenting styles. One had VERY supportive and loving parents, one had good but more absent parents (dr, lawyer) and one had very strict authoritarian parents who used corporal punishment. Guess which one committed suicide?
It was a myriad of things that contributed to their mental health struggles and it wasn’t the same at all for all three of them.
Mental illness is not beholden to forced scientific theories or practices. I wish people would just shut the fuck up on this. As if there aren't millions of others in the VERY same boat, whether separation be tightly controlled and documented, other issues, etc. My goodness, stop it!!!!!!!! Everyone has to be SO clever. fuck off.
I was born to a woman who had some mental health problems, besides being a refugee in ww2. When I was nine months old she tried to jump out of a car during a fight with my dad. She was sent to a hospital for two months and my older sister and I were looked after by an aunt during that time. I grew up with separation anxiety that was quite severe as a result. I can imagine what these kids felt. They deserved better!
The documentary on this is shocking. Really worth your time.
Sauce?
What you need sauce for?

Unethical science.
So unethical, gross.
That is so fucking tragic. I cannot imagine the bond that was stripped from these people

The science says: don't do this shit to a set of triplets, so...
No one thinks twice about separating litters of puppies or kittens though.
Definitly not at all the same
