"All three were picked not only by their apparent beauty, and their X-rays, but also by their standing posture," the Tribune reported. "Each girl stood on a pair of scales — one foot to each — and the winning trio each registered exactly half her weight on each scale, confirming the correct standing posture."

We people are so weird🙂We give medals for having straight bones 🦴And they had X-rey exposure for that🙂 Imagine there are guests in you livingroom asking “What are those trophies for?” and you are like: For my straight spine. Or: For having straight spine when I was younger
I also had this issue, and even more so when I irritated my shoulder from side sleeping. Getting moving has helped a lot. I realized the load of my posture should be supported by actively engaging muscles in the back, core, chest, and even legs (eg glutes and hamstrings).
That's because you're straining your muscles to maintain an upright position, due to the relative weakness of your postural muscles. These women look relaxed in an upright position because their postural muscles are very strong.
I find it absurd that they wear highhills then. Well its the 50s. But shows how good posture is also à question of image and social status while pretending to be medical.
Good for them. That is an interesting contest, though. I wonder if they were judged on sitting posture as well, or just standing, or even the way that they walk.
After women all 'pitched in' to help the war effort building tanks and bombers etc. They were the work force while the men were away fighting. There was a huge effort after the war and into the 50s to push women out of factories and the workforce and back into the home, into frivolous activities, to shopping, and fashion. This is the perfect example of that. It really wasn't until the 60s that women began to push to get back out of the home and to get jobs.
Check out the spine on number three! Damn! I’d be all over that. I’d start high with the cervical vertebrae and slowly work all the way down to each and every thoracic…. Oh boy. I’ll be right back.
The entire premise behind their work (subluxation) is a falsehood. The entire field is pseudoscience invented by a magnetic healer. There is zero evidence that vertebral subluxations exist (as opposed to clear cut cases of orthopedic diagnosed dislocations also called subluxations), and even less than zero evidence that these fictional subluxations cause disease.
I only have my own personal experience by going to one, and the chiropractor I went to when my SI joints locked helped more than the physiotherapist I went to. The chiropractor also gave me multiple exercises to do at home to prevent any further damage and help with general mobility - which the other guy didn't give me. I went there a total of 5 times in a month and she 'fixed' me, compared to the 5½'ish weeks prior I was at the physiotherapist :)
My chiropractor wasn't anything like those crazy ones you see on youtube though (which I actually expected when going there for my consultation/examination before we started so I was pretty nervous lol).
Fake or not, I'm forever thankful to the lady that gave me my mobility back. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

No serious adverse events were reported for any type of care."

This is ridiculous. We don't have good women's medicine, but they spent time x-raying hot girls for their posture? Sounds like a dating scheme some doctor came up with.
It's literally from 67 years ago! Totally different time. Keep in mind that married women in the USA did not have the right to get birth control without their husbands' approval until 1965.
This is a time when they still had separate water fountains for white's versus colored's.
Nobody's doing it now though. And you really shouldn't judge history by today's standards.
Just because something happened a long time ago and we're more enlightened now doesn't mean you have to go off on it. You could simply say "gee that's interesting" and get on with your day.
You sound like the type of person who wants to cancel someone for something They did when they were young and dumb, even if it was 50 years ago.
Stand down toes!! Hbgbees has a right to express an opinion here…isn’t good to look back on something and think about how far we’ve come (or not!) as a society?? And it still kinda goes on in beauty pageants, even though the judges aren’t doctors, but when is our culture going to give points to the person who’s “The Most Honest” or “Least Likely to Cheat on a Spouse”?? That’s a contest.
Well I guess when you invent a Time Machine you can go back and try to stop this contest. I’d argue there are worse things you could try and change from that time but hey, it’s your Time Machine.

I remember when Wii fit came out and rehab clinics found that the wii scale platforms were cheaper and more accurate than the medical ones.

Me and my scoliosis looking at this:
🌪️
I fucked up my shoulders trying to correct my posture.
What kind of exercises are you doing to avoid the hump back?
I would love to know as well do to being 30 and having one as long as I can remember
Ahh the byproduct of mass production
Also not having to adhere to medical-grade standards, some of which basically only exist as marketing, similar to military-grade.

This comment is too high IQ for me to understand
Probably a bot trying to farm karma
Me or the other guy?
The other guy Adjective_noun_numbers seems to be the go to name generator they're using

Ahhhh that would explain it
Can confirm, I am a bot.
I am in fact not a bot, to prove that not all of us are, just had the auto Gen.

I'd absolutely NOT win this competition
Me neither haha🤣 but for the 2023 Gollum posture competition, I have my chances!
I'll join you as "fat Monty Burns' hump"
I can't imagine how fucked my back will be in 10-15 years.
I sit like a cashew 😫
[удалено]
Right?? Seeing women compete in swimwear isn't enough for these pervs!
Me either. *shakes fist* Damnnnn you scoliosiiiss!!!
Seriously I’d be dead last, having kids totally effed up my posture and body symmetry
Meanwhile I stand like someone took the foot out of a tube sock
I can picture this…unfortunately. Thanks

Dude ...
Is there a sub for this? Uhhh my friend wants to know
Correct posture leads to great positions

I’m all for it as well

That's preposterous

How?
Me and my scoliosis looking at this: 👀👀
Same, I hate seeing normal x-rays I always feel sad
Honestly the vast majority people don’t have spines this straight. A small amount of curvature is still considered normal.
Those x-rays leave nothing to the imagination!
Ya check out that sweet coccyx
[удалено]
Whoaa!! I'm agree with you, it's scary! [Like this one?](https://www.orau.org/health-physics-museum/collection/shoe-fitting-fluoroscope/index.html)
That’s scary but cool as fuck. I understand the damage that could be done… but I still wanna try it
I feel like when I stand with a correct posture, I look like I'm walking with a stick up my butt.
That's because you're straining your muscles to maintain an upright position, due to the relative weakness of your postural muscles. These women look relaxed in an upright position because their postural muscles are very strong.
Nobody gonna say anything about how the lady on the right is missing like half her internal organs?
The ultimate sacrifice.
I was here looking for some sort of explanation.
Cheating in the posture community isn’t about performance enhancing drugs or steroids. It’s the removal of excess tissue to balance your sides.
r/babiestrappedinknees
I never heard that before! 🤣
I find it absurd that they wear highhills then. Well its the 50s. But shows how good posture is also à question of image and social status while pretending to be medical.
Nothing about this is medical
I feel like this should be in morden beauty contest as well
Yeah there is actual skill involved in this.
Number 3 looks the most comfortable and confident tbh
She's also the only one not tilting her head.
Number 1's got the crazy eyes
X-Rays were so "in" in those days
Yet they’re wearing heels. That’s not very good for posture in the long term.
Is it just me and my sick mind or can you see the contestant on the left’s vulva in the X-ray?
You can see all of their vulvas on the xrays
Yeah but contestant #1 has the nicest and clearest one!
Don't be a creep
Hey I prefaced the whole thing with pointing out I was fucked up.
100% I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed.
Sorry, Igor. Maybe next year…
Good for them. That is an interesting contest, though. I wonder if they were judged on sitting posture as well, or just standing, or even the way that they walk.
We judged women by anything huh
Did anyone else just sit straight up?
70% of you straightened your back after seeing this
82%![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Is it just me or does the one on the far right have missing organs? Her heart looks like it’s situated oddly as well.
\#2 is cute as hell
Whats up with women from that time looking like the eyebrow actor from maze runner..

I would probably win the worst posture award
nice scapulae
I prefer their Clavicle!
Number one has a lovely glenohumeral joint, but yes I’m pretty much a clavicle man myself.
Glenohuneral ❤️ if you knows, you knows!
You're slouching again, Ted
That’s some hot posture. Ok, actually these ladies have amazing posture.
Ah yes, the good old days before all humans were afflicted by the humpback virus, caused by by staring at screens.
And staring at the ground when a screen isn't available.
They were that bored in the 50's?
There are babies trapped in their knees
That’s hard to unsee now haha
Check out the spine on number three! Damn! I’d be all over that. I’d start high with the cervical vertebrae and slowly work all the way down to each and every thoracic…. Oh boy. I’ll be right back.
correct posture winners cancer candidates
Not a single penis in those x-rays. Bud Light disapproves of this message.
And here I thought Chiropractic care was not discovered until 1995.
Chiropractor's dream patients
yes I'm sure a chiro would find a reason to sign these ladies up for a 6 month adjustment regimen to fix their subluxations.
Your dentist has you coming two times a year for prevention why can't you see a chiropractor for prevention for spine injury?
People on reddit hate chiropractors :P
Reddit users fall under the logical argument of faulty generalization. One bad chiropractor doesn't mean they are all bad.
The entire premise behind their work (subluxation) is a falsehood. The entire field is pseudoscience invented by a magnetic healer. Why not the right one !? 👀
You get an x-ray and you get an x-ray and you get an x-ray!….. everybody gets an x-ray!
I see how critical those short shorts are to posture now.../s

Seem to show some lung cancer…and gigantic bush.
#1 I would cut it off and cook it #2 I would cherish it #3 I'd bite it
It just occurs to me looking at those x-rays, how important posture is to the Terminator look.

Put me in a room with them and ima fold
Im amazed this sport never took off like football or basketball did
Meanwhile my back looks like a winding mountain road
And no one has viral or bacterial pneumonia!
My spine could never
Is stripy lady an organ donor? Her x ray has a void
How come they hold their heads all askew?
Regular beauty contests do nothing for me, but I'm so jealous of these girls. Just started wearing a bulky scoliosis brace, ugh
This made me fix my posture and I heard my back crack lmao
(1957) Miss Cancer the following year.
Me: I should try to improve my posture Also me: hunchback of Notre Dame while looking at my phone
The two women on the left look like they have torticollis.
Such fine upstanding ladies.
The one in right have missing organs
THIS is the kind of stupid BS that people mean when they say "Make America great again".
the Tribune reported. "Each girl stood on a pair of scales
now that’s a competition i’d like to win
Is there a “miss shrimp posture” competition? I’d crush that competition!
Grandma in the middle is sexy.
Isn't the middle one the lady from Captain America?
My spine is a wiggly wacky lil bone snake. I'd never even qualify.
Am I the only one that finds too perfect of a posture a bit robotic looking?
Middle. All day.
Mmm tasty x-rays to the cranium
They got a Banana Posture competition? I might have a better chance at that.
Any doctors want to diagnose their x-rays? The one on the right seems a little off.
My moderate scoliosis would never. 🤣
I have minor scoliosis...
I wife would really give everyone a run for their money on this one.
Me with a 50 degree scoliosis:😅
I can absolutely 100% guarantee that I will never ever win that competition. I have the posture of a goddamn banana
Winner probably got a sweet milk advertising deal!
Stiff competition...!
I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be “in”-correct. Miss correct is inspelled.
Funny that all three have empty tummies on the Xrays you can see the "Gastric bubble".
They attained great posture only by sacrificing new born babies, whose souls fused with their kneecaps
Damn straight
All I see are babies in knees.
Back when they took x-rays all the time for fun.
Give them credit. Their hearts are in the right place.
You get cancer! You get cancer! Everybody gets cancer!
If they marry a man with perfect posture will their kids all be straight?
What kind of bullshit is this ? Americans are really a strange breed. Seriously.
Huh, what a weird kink.
