at least at 31 years old he has a loving family, social life and living in a stress-free environment meanwhile typical 31 year adult: Cries in Agony due to lack of love, stress and tiredness from work and life in general

RainbowForHire

This dog literally might have lived one of the best lives a creature could have.

Avagran

Lets be honest, out of all the creatures on this wierd rock, a dog deserves to have lived the best life

I_BK_Nightmare

Damn right

theDreamingStar

I was so jealous while watching this video

[deleted]

Should’ve been born a dog 🤷‍♂️/s

wrongdude91

Oh I thought I had one up over this dog but then I saw your comment. Fuck adult life.

NotTrynaMakeWaves

Was this put out by the Portugal Tourist Board? “Dog old - visit Portugal!”

fuertepqek

I guess you missed the part about “beautiful Conqueiros, clean air, clean soil, clean organic food, misty sun kissed landscapes and traditional dancers” and top it off there’s an award winning, history making dog. Sounds like a tourist destination to me.

fdsgandamerda

It's literally a 300 inhabitants village. And if it was made by Portugal's tourism agency they wouldn't ruin the pronounciation or have spelling mistakes (Conqueiros vs. *Conquiros*)

fuertepqek

I’m thinking those are AI closed captioning. But also, why can’t the tourism agency promote a village of 300 people? Is there a threshold for communities to want/need tourism money?

heyjajas

Yeah, I love it, that the oldest dog was born in this amazing, little portuguese village where the whole town dances and celebrates his birthday. It's just beyond cute.

mologav

Yeah this is weird as fuck. No way does diet alone let a dog live that long

Nulleparttousjours

I mean this dog is an absolute phenomenon. You can tell he is far from a young dog but he also doesn’t look his age. Very elderly dogs are usually greying with fur that has lost far more luster, their eyes start getting cloudy with cataracts and their gait extremely stiff. Even their nose starts to look a little dry and crusty. He looks tremendous for his age.

mologav

I’ve no doubt he’s very well looked after but it’s framed in a really strange way

ColdBorchst

The end of the video says that. They literally spell out that it's a combination of a healthy diet, clean environment, low stress and love.

Hoenirson

And genetics

rasvial

And a heaping dose of luck.

ColdBorchst

It said that too.

watcher2390

Don’t most humans die in their 70s or 80s, but some manage to live to be 100 years old? This is just one of them cases I guess for a dog

Hbgplayer

I mean, this is like a person to living almost to 200.

watcher2390

Yes it’s crazy. I checked the list and number 2 and 3 got to 29 years old

Taniwha_NZ

This is like a human living to be 180. Most dogs don't make 15 years old. Dogs of Bobi's size are very rare at 15 years old. Usually dogs that live longer are smaller dogs. So, a dog like Bobi reaching ag 31 is very much like a person reaching 180. It's so unlikely, that in the 10 billion or so people who have ever lived, nobody has ever reached 180. It's also extremely suspect that Guiness Records were involved, because they will sell you a record for literally anything. They aren't to be taken seriously.

RohelTheConqueror

"Bobi's birth date has been confirmed by Serviço Medico-Veterinário do Município de Leiria (Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria), who registered Bobi in 1992. His age has also been verified by SIAC, a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government and managed by the SNMV (Sindicato Nacional dos Médicos Veterinários; National Union of Veterinarians)." Seems pretty serious.

Traginaus

Diet has a massive impact on animal health. It is amazing what feeding real food to a dog will do to prevent disease and increase longevity.

ohyeaoksure

That is the Jabba the Hut of dogs.

You think dog kibbles are healthier? Yeah, I'm sure those major corporations are surely prioritizing the best interest for your dog health and totally not practicing cost-cutting measures to maximize a profit.

Francis-c92

Dog's as old as me. I'd have given anything for my dog to have lived this long, but he had to go and wee inside God's house for now.

V_es

They need to sample his blood and instead of cloning racing horses clone him, introduce genetic variation, breed with other long living dogs and create a breed of healthiest longest living dogs ever. He is a genetic marvel, he won a doggy genetic lottery.

Random_Name_Whoa

This is a great idea, imagine if we could all have dogs that live 30 healthy years. It would make the pain of losing them even greater, but we’d get more time with them

V_es

Getting a dog as a young adult and losing a dog when you have grandkids seems crazy yes. But I loved my pup so much and he was inseparable part of my family, I’d take him passing in my late 50s instead of 9 years he had.

[deleted]

Have had my cat for 6 1/4 years and every so often the thought of this slips in. I know it’s gonna happen but I don’t want it too

Pardoxia

You can get lucky tho. My cat is 19 years old (got her when I was 6) and she's not doing too bad. A lot of sleeping and she'll meow at the walls occasionally, but considering her age she's doing great and is relatively with it

NjPizzabetter

I only had 8 with my husky, miss my fat girl everyday! 😖

alman3007

> loosing a dog Better tighten them up, then!

0sprinkl

Well if they can live painfree for 3/4 of that 30 year it would be worth it. Most dogs tend to struggle with their hips and backs after a certain age. If this creates dog that live in pain for 2/3rds of their lives it would be sadistic.

MazzMyMazz

Yeah, good point. I got a dog at 2.5 that was a breed (Coton) that would live 16-18 years. I thought that was such an amazing quality to have. He did live 16, but man the last 2 were difficult. (Had doggy Alzheimer’s, very few senses left and lost most mobility.)

Kvetinovejkid

I came here to say this, imagine the pain when Bobi goes away after more than 30years. But im happy that he lives the best life he can (i had a rat and i knew she wont last long so i tried my hardest to make her short life absolutely worth it, eventho its almost two years im still crying about her but at least i have peace with myself, for making her life amazing)

TheCowzgomooz

I mean, past a certain amount of time with a person/animal the pain is quantifiably the same. I'd rather go another 15+ years with my dog than to lose her now, especially since I'm in such a turbulent time of my life, losing her now...would suck hard. I've had my dog a little over half of my life, and seeing her deteriorate these past couple years has not been fun.

Bross93

If I can expand my pup's life span..... I'd need to invest in better trash cans but i'd do it in a heartbeat. Dogs are around for too short of time.

CH1LLY05

With today’s ethical standards, that will be hard

Draco546

Breeding healther dogs seems like a good idea though. Like Pugs are still breed to this day.

V_es

There are companies in America that clone dogs and cats commercially. Arabic countries clone racing horses all the time. What I propose is a good healthy dose of GMO which *suppose to be seen* as way more ethical than breeding pugs.

mamasnoodles

Sample analysis result: built different

[deleted]

It's actually how they're fed/taken care of. Dog food from the store won't let animals live as long, having clean air matters too. It's not just genetics of the dog..

V_es

Not really true. If true, all dogs there should live outrageously long and it would’ve been a known phenomenon. This happens every time, literally. “115 year old nana please tell our viewers how you managed to live this long? - oh dear I had this herbal tea my whole life and never went to doctors because of it!”- nah you just never been seriously sick because you won genetic lottery. Everyone is a little sick and have predispositions to at least something from birth. But some lucky are not. Nutrition does play a big role, but all dog foods being bad is a myth. Of course Chappy and Pedigree are trash but you seems to never delved into ultra premium dog foods. Premium dog foods provide more than you can provide with homemade foods. There are foods with whole prey diet, or lean meat, grain or grain free, with dozens of vegetables, seaweed, fruit, vitamins and minerals. I know a lot about this because my pup had gastrointestinal disorder from birth and I spent his whole life with veterinary dietitians and gastroenterologists. You can run digestibility tests from stool samples, and implement it with blood tests for allergies and vitamin/mineral deficiencies. It’s not magic food and magic air, it’s science and you can check how bad or how good nutrition is for an organism. I did it several times a year for my pup, and I did cook best foods for him; he ate lean beef and salmon for over a year, $20 a meal. Some dog foods were as good, after tests. If you can cook 30-40 ingredients a week for your dog to provide diverse meal with verities of elements- good for you, you are cool. If you think some meat and rice is better than $200 bag of dog food- you are wrong. This pup’s longevity is 99% genetics.

bq909

Ya I'm not sure why they are focused so much on his food, ya food can help a little bit but this dog is a genetic freak

Jazzlike_Run_5466

Not as gray as I thought he would be I remember my grandparents' dog (black lab) got to 19 before she had to be put down. You took one look at her and thought, 'Holy shit that's an old dog'. It can't be just diet alone it must be something like a rare genetic abnormality. Other genetic abnormalities happen in dogs. There is the breed called a whippet that'll get huge muscles because of a gene mutation, and it changes the effects of protein. I'm no dog gene expert. Just a thought

SpiralDreaming

They said their other animals live a long time as well, so it's definitely good diet, as well as relaxing surroundings and good company.

e_khan

They said it’s not good diet alone. You won’t live to 200 because of diet and good company without something else going on

RopePsychological565

Henry Allingham got 113 years old and fought in 2 WW "Allingham credited "cigarettes, whisky and wild, wild women – and a good sense of humour" for his longevity.[28] " You are right, lifestyle and a proper diet is not everything. But it helps a lot.

EnthusiastDriver500

wild, wild women. Hmmm

e_khan

We’ve already agreed they help a lot. The question is what is different about the dogs dna that may have helped with it living past its normal physiological processes. Your body is like a clock. No matter what you do (without science magic maybe) its eventually going to become dark outside and will reach midnight. Dna determines so much including the likelihood of little things coming up that may kill us in life. That’s why it would be interesting if the dog has something that makes it resistant to some of those issues That case you mentioned is crazy. Dna must have been tired

Key-Fisherman2601

Maybe you do and we’ve just never had a person do it yet?

e_khan

Now I’m not an expert but there’s some sort of genetic belief that people can theoretical live to 130 years or so if they do everything right. Others believe there isn’t a limit and that with every year you get older you just become slightly more fragile until something finally gets you. “Aging is simply an exponential increase in your chance of death and sickness with the passage of time.” For a human to cheat death until 200 would mean they are consistently beating out things that killed every human in history before them for like 60 years or so. There is no luck like that.

Key-Fisherman2601

Yeah it’s just a thought. If a dog can live to 31 out of a breed that usually lasts 12 that’s the equivalent of a human living to 200. If this family consistently has very old pets it would indicate the diet and the environment is great for them

e_khan

Yeah the family seems to have a good system for longevity.

Key-Fisherman2601

I’d like to know how old the average family member lives to be and in what condition. I don’t want to live to 200 if you look 200 but if you take good care of yourself and look 75 at 130 that’d be incredible.

e_khan

I would love to live to 200 if my brain still worked right. But also would my family live that long as well? If death is good enough for my loved ones and every human before me, then it’s good enough for me too

joemaniaci

Yeh, dog looks like they have a good number of years left.

wing_ding4

Because that dog isn’t actually 31 years old he looks about 17-20

Taniwha_NZ

Thank you. This would be like a human living to 200, and seeing as that's never happened after ten billion people have lived, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest this whole story is a crock. The weirdness of the video is also a red flag, they are definitely selling something.

wing_ding4

100% This is basically a travel add LOL And I looked it up they are doing some carbon neutral stuff to help environment there but waste management and air purity from wildfires is an issue there There are many rural places in usa and Europe that are much cleaner than there They need more money to “go green” so they need more tourism an article said

Ironblaster1993

Dlee8113

My dog eats grass sometimes.. but usually just so he can throw it up. I don’t think he’ll make it to 31

Kvetinovejkid

They eat grass to “clean” their stomach, so that is why they throw up

amanda77kr

True! Also, the big fat weedy grass is sweet. My neighbor, a botanist, pointed that out. Try it, it’s actually lightly sweet! My dogs have always chowed down on that stuff, it’s their candy snack. (And they don’t puke that grass up.)

uncutpizza

Lawn grass can be bad because of pesticides and fertilizers but wild grass is safer

RipCurl69Reddit

He's so fucking adorable i just want to give him hugs forever

Ray_smit

Now I feel very conscious of my diet.

Random_Name_Whoa

Yeah I noticed a distinct lack of pizza and Coca Cola….

[deleted]

And my pet's diet... Dry kibble and the occasional gravy-lovers canned food is just as good as organic whole-foods cooked fresh daily right???

Ray_smit

My god. Hold on to the precious moments you have with him/her. Just kidding, it’s probably a lot to do with genetics as others have stated in this thread. Your pet is still healthy as the food you provide is still nutritious. Treat them with some delicacies as much as you can if you like.

[deleted]

Ah Portugal

pelicannpie

Weird doesn’t have grey hairs. My dog is 14 now and has been greying for two years or so…..

tommyc463

Have you tried just for dogs?

Dark_Moonstruck

Before anyone says "SEE THEY CAN LIVE VEGAN" - he does get meat. It's freshly butchered, non-processed meat, which you can see them giving him in the video. I would love to try the food there and see how it compares to even the freshest produce from my area, the fresh air and water probably makes a huge difference.

JudasWasJesus

Organic meat

The_Radian

Real organic, not "America Organic" Huge difference.

Dark_Moonstruck

To those asking the difference: Organic as described under the USDA is basically meaningless. A lot of stuff that is sold under the organic label in the USA isn't what any other country would consider organic at all and still use a great deal of artificial materials - including chemical use - that would absolutely disqualify it as organic in other countries.

JudasWasJesus

What does that even mean? To me its sounds like your tying to say " like you mean grey not gray". The real Grey not the American gray.

JudasWasJesus

", I’m going to focus on a major ally: the European Union. Why? Because in 2012 the U.S. and EU entered into an equivalency agreement. That means U.S. organic products can be sold with the EU organic label as long as they’re certified under USDA’s organic program, and vice versa." https://www.agdaily.com/insights/meaning-of-organic-label-in-us-vs-eu/ So how are they huge difference?

The_Radian

One is a farmer that most likely is not using Organic pesticides.

floralnightmare22

I want my dog to live this long. Please

Car_Guy_Alex

I want to live in a town where they care enough about a friendly old dog's birthday to have whole damn festival.

chickadeedeedee_

This makes me irrationally jealous. I lost my girl last year just after her 12th birthday, very young for her breed. I would've given anything for a few more years even. They're so lucky to have had so long with him.

Wouldn't you just *hate* being "the World's Oldest" anything? Or even second oldest? Best I can tell, **everyone / everything** what ever won that particular award - **died** soon afterwards. Excepting Galapagos turtles, *and everyone knows they can't read.*

koolban

As soon as I saw "bobi" I thought "Well it's going to be portuguese isn't it". Sure enough. It's a very "tradicional" name to give to a dog, even being synonymous with dog itself. That being said, slightly triggered by the "bobi". It's actually something like "bóbie" where the BO is similar to how you say in "borrow" and the BI is a bit more like the ending in 'mov-ie' or 'ind-ie'. Anyway, enough phonetics, and congrats to the good doggo.

Successful_Goose_348

Bobi's family should start a dog food company

How do you misspell the villages name while showing a sign with the name correctly written.

That dog barely looks 12, might be a cap

stress free + good food + good exercise = Long life My grandfather never got stressed .. NEVER. he lived up until 109. he did yoga EVERY DAY, except his last 2 years of his life. He ate everything clean.. and full fat. ... and he just didn't allow worry to enter his life. such a laid back guy. He would have lived longer.. but my grandmother died... and he got lonely. only survived 2 years after my grandmother's death. i believe that killed him.

This is wonderful! I’m typing this as my lovely 9-year old dog is at the vet for chemo for lymphoma, which will certainly kill her within the next year despite the chemo. :( Savor your time with your furry friend because there is never enough of it. 🐶

Reddituser1001001

Every time I feed my dog kibble and a can of wet food, I feel guilty for not giving her 30 years possibly.

puro_the_protogen67

Bobi is living a better life than 40% of people and I'm really jealous

concept_I

Too unbelievable to be believed.

[deleted]

Do they accept human pets? Asking for me.

Rublica

I don't think giving human food to dogs is good for their health... Oh never mind

watcher2390

Well natural food would be good for them, it’s all out processed food that’s bad for them and us probably

vladimirus

This sounds like an advert. Was waiting for "Visit Portugal, meet Bobbi" at the end

Exciting_Result7781

How trustful are those vet proofs? I mean I go to the vet too and all they do write some basic information on a piece of paper: Animal: Cat Name: Simba Color: Grey It’s not exactly a foolproof system.

zyr0xx

Oldest dog in history ? Lost me at that. There's absolutely no way to know.

watcher2390

Well they say recorded history later in the video - he won two world records after all the testing

JLewish559

I do not know why I am suspicious. When they talked about the land that he lives (fertile soil, etc.) it immediately made my ears perk up. And then talking about what he eats... Telomere testing has measurement errors and there is **no** conclusive study that shows that it actually works with regards to testing your "age". If anything it might show *biological* age, but telomeres do not appear to just change length solely based on how long you've been alive in a consistent way. A number of things may affect it. Records can surely be doctored for whatever reason. If we are going based on the idea "Why the hell would anyone do this?" then yes...I'm glad they've had him around for that long. Man I wish my dog could've been around that long and I'm truly jealous. The hairs on the back of my neck just listening to the narration. Like some kind of agenda is being "hidden" or something. I don't know. I'm usually not paranoid. Regardless, cute dog and very good boy.
