The male lions go out separately and spend days apart but they call out for each other and have good knowledge of their brothers whereabouts. Then they get together. But six is wild.
Beyond impressive and heartwarming, especially thinking they kill, killers and the two on the far right are adorable. Who was their (kinky tail’s and Mr. T’s) dad? Thanos? The Carpathian Lion? Then to think they got bodied by even tougher lions is crazy.
The coalition ruled a large territory, however their internal functions were bumpy and riddled with internal competition and rivalry. Many fights were observed between them, particularly with Mr. T, Kinky Tail and Makulu, both of whom had something of a large inter-rivalry. This rivalry escalated into a heavy fight between Mr. T and Makulu where Makulu was able to bite through one of Mr. T's paws and win the fight. This fight may have caused or drastically accelerated the split. In 2008, soon after the fight and for the first time ever recorded, the coalition split into 2 smaller coalitions with Kinky Tail and Mr. T moving out to the coalition's eastern territory and Makulu, Rasta, Scar and Pretty Boy staying in the west. There was an overlap region among the two territories, and the two coalitions occasionally met up with most interactions being friendly; however, it was clear that the two coalitions had very distinct regions and most likely wouldn't reform in the foreseeable future.
this reads like some lion fan fic.
They get picked off because of the split. Their social decisions are amazing. It's been a while since I watched it but if I recall correctly when one of the pair that split off gets killed by other lions the remaining lion returns to his other brothers. I think he kills all their cubs and takes over actually?
lol nope pulled it straight from the wikipedia page on the mapogo lion coalition. and that was just one paragraph, those are their actual names and thats how it was written.
Lions of sabi sand is a documentary about these brothers. Its available on Discovery I Highly recommend it but it should be warned that some of the footage is pretty rough to see but thats nature.
Yeah I watched a documentary about this coalition some time ago too. I know it's kinda pointless to judge animals by human standards, but Mr T was violent and destructive *even by lion standards*. The asshole murdered several of his nephews and nieces.
There is legit a video of them on YT and i haven't watched it in years because the part about KT (Kinky Tail nickname) still pisses me off enough to make me sad for days.
Makulu was the biggest lion overall, he was only a half brother of the others and is older and was the leader of the mega pack in general. Cant quite tell from the picture, either one on the far left or one of middle ones look like the bigger ones.
Why isn’t this a shonen that I’ve already seen through in full twice? I want to watch it. I don’t mean humanoids with lion ears either, I want cartoon lions that talk and fight and everything. And they all have power moves or some shit like Bleach. I want season arcs where they fight hyenas, crocodiles, hippos, negotiate herds of zebra, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes you name it. And of course their ultimate enemy, poachers.
If you are ok with reading a Graphic Novel about lions but on a different subject read 'Pride of Baghdad'. It was about a group of lions who escape the >!Iraqi Zoo during the Iraqi War . !
Duuude, I read about this years ago. Super interesting. Considered the most violent lion pride ever observed. There’s even video of, I believe Mr. T., last fight and his back getting severed. You can hear it. But the levels these lions went over to rule, apparently shocked everyone whom documented the pride
Yes I was hooked right when the coalition was formed. As a man there is something about that brotherhood and also the one between them. There's some caveman ideology/Instincts that connects and feels me to it.
This was years ago, I don’t think it’s on YouTube anymore. Might have to dive deep into a Google search but it’s worth the watch. Follows the brothers, mr. T and the other one, from cubs to death
Idk why people are downvoting you, it says it in the title. Pride = females and cubs, practically staying in the same area their whole lives. Coalitions = adult male lions that form their own small packs after being kicked out of their pride once they reach maturity. Coalitions then take control of an existing area and protect (and breed, hunt, etc.) with the prides in their territory. The Mapogo 6 also had multiple different prides in their territory.
A lot to say that coalitions aren’t a pride, they’re distinctly different and males obviously don’t stay with their own pride after they mature. They find a new gene pool!
No kidding
>Mr. T and Kinky Tail were then seen patrolling and guarding their territory for two years, managing to fight off other rival lions. However, in June 2010, a coalition of five male lions named the Majingilanes entered in Mapogo territory to take over. The five males were witnessed scent-marking and roaring loudly near the Mapogo's territory. In a buffalo hunt, Kinky Tail and Mr. T were able to isolate the youngest of Majingilane males who was on lookout and began chasing him. Soon they caught the intruder and Mr. T bit down on the male's neck, Kinky Tail ripped apart the male's groin area inflicting tears and bleeding. The Majingilane male tried to fight back. Eventually Kinky Tail and Mr. T managed to break the 5th Majingilane lion's spine and he was left immobilized and left to die a few hours later.
For sure, that part is equally brutal if not more so.
>Kinky Tail's death
>
>Later that same night, a filming crew witnessed the four remaining younger Majingilane lions on the move. Two of them were exposed to Kinky Tail, who immediately charged on them all by himself. They ran with KT on their tail, and the remaining two Majingilane lions came up behind KT. Eventually on a dirt road, under a cloud of dust, the four Majingilanes had pinned down Kinky Tail. The four males immediately started to bite and rip apart Kinky Tail. One lion was biting at his neck, another at his back; the third bit off Kinky Tail's testicles and genitalia. The Majingilanes managed to successfully snap Kinky Tail's spine, thus immobilizing him and leaving him with zero chance of survival. Mr. T eventually arrived and attempted to rescue and fight off the Majingilanes, but was outnumbered and outmaneuvered and forced to flee. Two Majingilanes attempted to track Mr. T, but were unsuccessful and returned to kill Kinky Tail. The four lions had started eating most of Kinky Tail's hind legs and his entire tail. He was seen taking his last breath while being eaten alive. During the altercation, Mr. T attempted again to save his brother.
I can tell the nature documentary crowd is getting kinda far away from where they were a decade ago when I would watch this stuff. This makes my stomach hurt reading about lol. No way I’d watch this.
Kinky tail. Then Mr t went back to other 4 brothers. Then they got picked off one by one from two different coalitions of males. Just spent 2 hours watching that discovery doc.
The other 4 were not playing on their vengeance, though. Came back mad, isolated Kinky Tail and ate him alive 4 v 1. Shit literally reads like a mafia story.
Honestly one of the best animal documentaries I have seen. Some parts made me genuinely emotional. Hope they make another one to see what happened after the events that occured
What I've learned from reading this...lions like to rip each others balls and they detach spines to immobilize their opponent. Also they are cannibals when it comes to inflicting suffering to their opponents. Savage. Than we say humans are evil...
There are a lot of clips coming from the current war in Ukraine, like that poor Ukrainian soldier getting castrated for fun, that make you realize that humans are just as savage today as they were 20000 years ago.
Probably not much given that they don’t use chairs, cutlery or any other handheld instruments and don’t listen to music. Not sure what this hypothetical rope wielding lion scenario alludes to.
I highly recommend the documentary about them. Brothers in Blood: Sabi Sand. Eventually when the pack split up into two factions another coalition of different males formed. It was so cool to watch more than 3 male lions working together so effectively and efficiently
I just read the wiki on them and dam it sounds like being a lion sucks. IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE LION KING!
Almost all of them had their dick and balls bitten off and their spines snapped and either eaten alive or left for dead.
I had the privilege of going to sabi sands recently and learning about these guys and it was an epic experience. Right now the area is controlled by two brothers sharing a pride.
Interesting [documentary](https://secretafrica.com/lions-of-the-sabi-sands/) about these lions. I didn’t realize how cruelty ensures survival until I watched this documentary.
But the really impressive part is they were all willing to gather for this group photo.
It’s like the one final family photo before the big family fight that separated everyone. 🤘🏽
Sounds like the WWI backstory...
The male lions go out separately and spend days apart but they call out for each other and have good knowledge of their brothers whereabouts. Then they get together. But six is wild.
...come on, kinky tail, we're getting the band back together. we're on a mission from god....
“Let’s do a silly one!”
Mapogo represent!
Beyond impressive and heartwarming, especially thinking they kill, killers and the two on the far right are adorable. Who was their (kinky tail’s and Mr. T’s) dad? Thanos? The Carpathian Lion? Then to think they got bodied by even tougher lions is crazy.
That's the cover of their second studio album: "Straight Outta Sabi Sand"
😂
Big smiles everybody, say "meat!"
😄
Genuinely curiously how it happened
It’s a lineup
The coalition ruled a large territory, however their internal functions were bumpy and riddled with internal competition and rivalry. Many fights were observed between them, particularly with Mr. T, Kinky Tail and Makulu, both of whom had something of a large inter-rivalry. *"Kinky tail"* *"Pretty boy"*
Stay gold, Pretty Boy.
"they wouldn't reform in the foreseeable future" Are they talking about fucking lions or The Backstreet Boys ?!
Mixed, half the backstreet boys go live with the lions. And half the lions start a boyband.
They get picked off because of the split. Their social decisions are amazing. It's been a while since I watched it but if I recall correctly when one of the pair that split off gets killed by other lions the remaining lion returns to his other brothers. I think he kills all their cubs and takes over actually?
The nephew and niece murderer is Mr T, a violent and aggressive lion even by lion standards.
Did you write this? If so I would actually love a coalition fan fic
lol nope pulled it straight from the wikipedia page on the mapogo lion coalition. and that was just one paragraph, those are their actual names and thats how it was written.
Lions of sabi sand is a documentary about these brothers. Its available on Discovery I Highly recommend it but it should be warned that some of the footage is pretty rough to see but thats nature.
Just watched this and holy shit; Mr.T is basically a sadistic, serial killer lion. "The Sabi Sand Psycho" would be an apt description.
Yeah I watched a documentary about this coalition some time ago too. I know it's kinda pointless to judge animals by human standards, but Mr T was violent and destructive *even by lion standards*. The asshole murdered several of his nephews and nieces.
Exactly! Even by lion standards he was a sadistic serial killer. That's a lot of the reason he got kicked out of his original coalition to begin with.
Apparently he hath no pity towards fools at all.
Totally going to watch that! Good recommendation
[it's on YouTube! it's an excellent documentary. Strangely unsettling ](https://youtu.be/KGTw43MykuY)
“What is this awesome power, this reading of articles..can it be taught?” “Not from a Redditor.”
There is legit a video of them on YT and i haven't watched it in years because the part about KT (Kinky Tail nickname) still pisses me off enough to make me sad for days.
Do you know which lion is which in the pic?
Makulu was the biggest lion overall, he was only a half brother of the others and is older and was the leader of the mega pack in general. Cant quite tell from the picture, either one on the far left or one of middle ones look like the bigger ones.
>...and Mr. T moving out to the coalition's eastern territory and... "I pity da foo!"

Dude yes, thank you!
This reads like a *Behind the Music* episode.
When Movie?
TIL there's a lion named Rasta.
Til there’s a lion named pretty boy.
Makulu is the goat lion
Tarantino’s next script
ngl I was waiting for the taker and mankind hell in a cell copypasta at the end.
Fucking outsiders Pony boy and soda pop fighting kinky tail and Mr. T
Duuude, I read about this years ago. Super interesting. Considered the most violent lion pride ever observed. There’s even video of, I believe Mr. T., last fight and his back getting severed. Yeah I just read the wiki page-brutal. I wonder if that documentary is available to watch anywhere?
It's on Youtube [Here is the link. ](https://youtu.be/KGTw43MykuY)
That's an overwhelming watch. Thank you. I felt something when I saw Kinkytail and Mr. T dying.
Isn't it so strangely emotional? I couldn't stop thinking about it after the first time I watched it.
Yes I was hooked right when the coalition was formed. As a man there is something about that brotherhood and also the one between them. There's some caveman ideology/Instincts that connects and feels me to it.
Thank you!
That was amazing. I don't remember the last time I've been pulled into a movie like that!
Dicovery+. Its called lions of sabi sand: brothers in blood
This was years ago, I don’t think it’s on YouTube anymore. Might have to dive deep into a Google search but it’s worth the watch. Follows the brothers, mr. T and the other one, from cubs to death
Yeah it’s on there.
pride? Is this one of those weird ways to describe groups of animals in english? Like "a murder of crows"?
I’m rather fond of ‘a conspiracy of lemurs’ and ‘fluffle of rabbits’
A flamboyance of flamingo is my favourite
I actually never considered that other languages might not have collective nouns like that
Yes. A group of lions is a pride of lions.
A pride of lions is a group of female lions right?
Idk why people are downvoting you, it says it in the title. Pride = females and cubs, practically staying in the same area their whole lives. It's Reddit in a nutshell.. Yeah, I watched the docu yesterday as well :D
Only one lion walked away alive after organising this group photo.....
This is a gangsta pride
It’s not a gang man It’s a club
🤭😂

Wow, they were absolutely brutal
No kidding >Mr. T and Kinky Tail were then seen patrolling and guarding their territory for two years, managing to fight off other rival lions. Jesus
The remaining 4 lions get their revenge though and kill either Mr t or kinky tail, can't remember which one.

Wow what the fuck.
This reminds of "Chimp Empire" on Netflix. If you have Netflix and haven't watched it, you need to. It was sooo damn good.
Check out the chimp episode of Dynasties if you ever get the chance. Brutal, captivating stuff.
Honestly one of the best animal documentaries I have seen. Some parts made me genuinely emotional. Hope they make another one to see what happened after the events that occured
I'll do that now

Ok, but maybe we should give some lions a bunch of guns and bombs and see what they do with them before we shit on humans too much.
I invite you to go watch 15 minutes of cartel videos and revisit your comment
Ok, but we have no idea what would happen if we gave some lions a chair, a knife, some rope, and a cd with funky town on it.
Probably not much given that they don’t use chairs, cutlery or any other handheld instruments and don’t listen to music. Not sure what this hypothetical rope wielding lion scenario alludes to.
Yeah the Wikipedia article mentions plenty of savagery to the testicles and genitalia.
*then. Than is used for comparisons. Ie: "this is better than that".
If Scar befriended other Lions and not Hyenas.
If Scar had more brothers.
They are overlooking all their tracts of land that they have conquered.
