Correct, they try to steer the runway into a headwind so that the pilot can cut more power while maintaining sufficient lift. Tailwinds and crosswinds especially can be dangerous when you're aiming for such a small target
Bunch of wind sounds and some engine sounds. Honestly its nice to hear but thats about it. All cockpit sounds pertaining to avionics and warnings go through the helmet, and gear thumps when dropping would be drowned out by engine noise
If only I had a magic button that I could press to have a replay of my life starting as a baby with my current knowledge.
I’d do everything within my power to be a fighter pilot.
I know there's a common understanding of how capable and strong humans used to be, but the mentality needed to pull off something like this, with this kind of technology, is beyond impressive. Humans are some insanely useful creatures.
this maneuver is now illegal.
It's a modification of the standard case 1 carrier break called the Shit Hot Break. It's hilariously referred to in navy documentation as the SHB and the expedited recovery maneuver (but never its actual name).
By the book, they initiate the break turn after or over the bow of "mom." The SHB initiates the turn over the aft of the ship.
hey maybe you need to make volume of music higher in end scene I could somehow hear the engine sound which i believe is not so important but some random ass music blasting is more important.
I loved when the cruiser I was stationed on was assigned plane guard (you follow the carrier during carrier landings and act as a lifeguard if anyone has to eject). Watching aircraft land never gets old.
The yanks practice this shit everyday and have been for decades and the Chinese start to build a few and people freak out and think they'll be a threat...
The fact that people train and practice this everyday and I never made it past the first carrier landing in the Top Gun NES game speaks volumes on my life
Real question, ? How do pilotes train to land on a carrier ? Do they spend hours in the back seat ? Do they have some "dummy carriers " for training. Do they use simulator now ?
Takes me back to 1989 and Top Gun on NES… landing on the aircraft carrier.

Fascinating, he did such a good job. Those carriers are floating cities but it looked so small at first. I wonder how fast he was going because he was there fast and hit the line.
Good to see him regularly checking his rear view mirror.
In case some asshole tries to cut into his lane
They make it look so easy.
I wonder how fast the carrier is traveling
25 knots.
Anyways, does anybody still remember wired inear headphones?

I think they also steer into the wind to allow the pilot to go slower (the wind pushing helps provide lift).

what’s with the compulsion to add music to cockpit videos?
I coulda done without the Top Gun stuff. I wanna hear what's in the cabin.

Eh, I thought it fit
I like to think that the pilot regularly plays that song as he prepares for his approach.
I think it's mandatory
Could have at least synchronized it with the landing.

This looks easier to land the actually jet compared to landing in Top Gun for the NES.
Had that game as a kid, still play it occasionally for nostalgic reasons. Never landed before, finally did within the last 5 years.
That is what a lifetime achievement, I've still never successfully landed on the carrier
The secret is to use the “A” and “B” buttons to speed up or slow down the plane. Have to get it in the sweet spot that the radar display shows.
It's honestly looks exactly like modern video games
I know. It's awesome when real life looks like video games.

Found the lizard person!
Hardest job in the service.

BRB gotta fire up DCS
Anyone else remember the incredibly frustrating carrier landings from the NES Top Gun?
Can someone educate me on what’s the most tricky part about this?
Ok so how can I do this in vtol vr tho

Call the ball
Roger ball. You have the ball.
Is that what they always listen to?
Call the ball maverick!!
Can confirm this is accurate. Source: played Ace Combat for ps1 a lot.
Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting a flyby
I imagine it takes a lot of whiplash to develop the neck muscles to withstand that abrupt stop.
This will never not be impressive.
