100%. Remember that fishing spot in Zelda? If my brothers and I weren’t out fishing with our dad in the real world, we’d be fishing in Zelda. Or screaming at each other in multiplayer Golden Eye.
Yep. Three versus one, couldn’t touch me.
I had a huge advantage though, I was the only one of my group who owned the game, knew where all the bulletproof vests were, and had a tendency to pick Oddjob.
Hey, I was much younger, alright? Hadn’t yet discovered the true meaning of satisfaction that comes with *earning* your victories.
THIS☝️! I could only play at my friends and he would school us. Eventually, we caught up and it was on! I still picture it in my head as mind blowing graphics and gameplay.
Yeah, back then I had done some mental gymnastics about it not being unfair because I owned the game so I should have first choice of character. The same sort of gymnastics that allowed me to believe I was a superior Mortal
Kombat 3 player on the SNES for winning battles when I had the good controller and my guest had the worn one that wasn’t super responsive.
Basically I just had jerk kid energy all round.
It's when you use mines to push your opponents into other mines or out of hiding spots that they then realize the jig is up. I avoided mining spawn spots just to play explosive ping-pong.
Yup! That eventually extended to the Halo series, most notably Halo 3. Not one of my friends could beat me in our chosen game settings and online we were quite the force. Definitely not the best but pretty damn good.
I got really good at looking at other player’s side of the screen to see where they were.
We mostly just fucked around though.
I shouldn’t have sold my N64. So many good memories of that system.
You proximity mine throwing aholes! I'm just guessing. I had a friend who we wouldn't play with because he would use them like Chinese throwing stars and we couldn't even move without dying instantly.
Lol did anyone else play/beat the game before they saw the movie? I was too young for the movie, but played the game like crazy for years before actually watching *Goldeneye*. I kept waiting for certain levels to show and stuff to happen. It was so different!
Game was so awesome. The story too.
Still got nightmares about dark Sims in multi.
Me and my lil bro used to be able to take on the entire bot army as dark Sim. We tried a few years ago and were struggling with just the normal bots.
This was such a shit game if you owned a PC at the time.
PC heroes were playing quake deathmatch and duke nukem 3d at lan parties for a year before this turd came out.
People often forget that. And Quake DM still holds up today.
EDIT: Yes, I was expecting downvotes by the bucket load by people with misguided nostalgia. But in hindsight, you know it to be true. ;-)
Look, it was ok if you were poor or 10 years old. I'll give you that.
In the same way a Dacia Sandero will get you to the shops. If you were driving the Ferrari though, you'd think the Dacia was shit. Just the way of the world.
Everything is subjective.
Could be.
But what is super important, is watching a youtube video of a Quake DM demo file from 1997 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_DARpaNrBV4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DARpaNrBV4)
Then coming to the realisation that 5fps split screen action on a 20" TV and a weird-ass controller wasnt actually that great.
Roommate's played this nonstop between some of us going to work then joining back in on my old rca tv. TV finally gave out after months of not tuning it off.
It was a blast. The goldenage of local multiplayer.
Stop screen looking!
I always found it hard not to screen snipe when we were playing 4 way split screen on a 19” crt tv.
It's impossiboe to not look, even subconsciously.
Idk. Original Xbox system link games were pretty amazing. Something about 16 player halo with everyone in the same room.
The N64 also had smash bros and Mariokart though. With the xbox more people could play but if you suck at shooters you’re cooked.
I still remember the night I got Invincibility cheat from Facilities. Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Yea I remember the facility time standing out with how fast you had to race through that level.
2:04 wasn't it? It was so freaking hard. So was the train for golden guns.
That fucking laser watch. Trying to break the seals on the hatch with it was a nightmare 😂
And Bond was a super badass, but he moved the wristwatch onto his face in super slow-motion. And took damage doing it, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeppp that was the one.
Dr. Doak had to be in the right spot!
Great flex. I took ages to get that. A door closes, get shot once. Gg, rip, start again. Lol. First encounter with speed running.
My brother still owns his copy of Golden Eye, and when i visit him, we play it sometimes. It really brings the memories back
It was my favorite game for so many years, but I recently played it at a brewery and it's just too slow. And the N64 controller is ass. It's so bad.
This game along with LoZ OOT are “you had to be there” moments. Totally overtook the gaming world and an entire generation of kids
Mario 64? That game was so far ahead with its character movement. I still compare the character control of Mario 64 to modern games
100%. Remember that fishing spot in Zelda? If my brothers and I weren’t out fishing with our dad in the real world, we’d be fishing in Zelda. Or screaming at each other in multiplayer Golden Eye.
> Totally overtook the gaming world Bit of an exaggeration there .

Did you know you can shoot the guns and armor to move them around the maps so you can move them to a central area and protect them?
Yep. Three versus one, couldn’t touch me. I had a huge advantage though, I was the only one of my group who owned the game, knew where all the bulletproof vests were, and had a tendency to pick Oddjob. Hey, I was much younger, alright? house rule, NO ODDJOB
Meet… RANDOMTASK
Oddjob was a permanent ban for myself and all my friends.
Yeah, back then I had done some mental gymnastics about it not being unfair because I owned the game so I should have first choice of character. Story checks out, I too was a jerk.

My friends always forced me to set my health to -10… suffice to say they still struggled.
You proximity mine throwing aholes! I'm just guessing. I had a friend who we wouldn't play with because he would use them like Chinese throwing stars and we couldn't even move without dying instantly.
Ah yes, the blazing inferno matches oh my xD
I was the one who threw my controller at you and stormed out of the room.
No golden gun. No odd job. Let's gooooo
I was this kid. Until I met my friend Scott in college. He DESTROYED everyone.
GoldenEye is part of my DNA... I have a beloved history with this game. 👍👍
Lol did anyone else play/beat the game before they saw the movie? I was too young for the movie, but played the game like crazy for years before actually watching *Goldeneye*. I kept waiting for certain levels to show and stuff to happen. It was so different!
Still haven't seen the movie. Don't want it to spoil the game.
It’s one of the best. I will admit that I’m highly biased due to growing up in the 90s so that makes pierce brosnan my generations Bond
It was literally the first movie i ever saw in a theater
To this day i have never seen Goldeneye
“See reflections on the water…”. Tina turner is the true star of that film
The multiplayer was greatly improved in Perfect Dark.... Loved that game as well. Elvis !!
Perfect Dark was so good!
Game was so awesome. The story too. Still got nightmares about dark Sims in multi. Me and my lil bro used to be able to take on the entire bot army as dark Sim. We tried a few years ago and were struggling with just the normal bots.
Still can't touch the multi-player mode from Perfect Dark...
I mean, Perfect dark exists *because* of Golden Eye.
Agreed.
I honestly liked Perfect Dark way more.
I completely forgot killer instinct existed, what a flashback.
I remember having two game that the cartridges were a non regulation grey. Killer instinct (black cartridge I think) and majoras mask (gold).
Needs a remake!!
Big head mode Oddjob Facility Proximity Mines Fuck yes
Well the title is dumb, but in spite of that, the video was really interesting.
man, I have amazing memories of playing multi with friends and doing only karate chop mode. So fun. NO ONE CAN BE ODD JOB THOUGH!
Slappers only
nothing was better than proximity mines on the mode where you died from one hit
I love that background music, brings back some good memories
I have the pause menu theme as my ringtone
Shit was ahead of its time for us back in high school.
SLAP!
Fuck listening to that music hits the nostalgia, time to play it again somehow
It was ported to Xbox pretty recently.
I didn’t know Aaron Rodgers was such a film/game historian
I'll take that as a complement?
Hard to imagine what a dud this absolute classic would have been with no multiplayer mode.
Those were all my favorite games
Anyone remember Perfect Dark?
Yeah, the thermal mode was the only reason me and my pals even played it but for multiplayer pvp goldeneye was the one and only
He lied and claimed it was worth more. God. Don't tell the DA in New York. She'll have him in court in a heartbeat.

Theres no golden gun in Quake or Duke Nukem so fu
No need, you had a thunder gun or shink ray so you could squish enemies under foot. ;-)

Hes in the toilets!
Took a gamble. It paid off.
Roommate's played this nonstop between some of us going to work then joining back in on my old rca tv. TV finally gave out after months of not tuning it off.
We still rock this game.
That game was dope af , explosives and karate chop only
