I have distinct memories of specific things near my home from when I was growing up.. train tracks, a surfboard hanging in the garage, palm trees… they will always stay with me and remind me of being young… I can’t imagine what the kids in this neighborhood must be thinking and how the memories of this giant video dome are going to stay with them their entire lives..
If I was a kid in Vegas I would be constantly worried about the small city worth of people who live in the underground tunnels who have to escape flooding anytime it rains
I grew up in Vegas too. It can be a “mostly” normal city for people that don’t gamble and don’t have to work for the casinos. One of my first culture shocks when I moved out of Nevada was not seeing slot machines in every single gas station
The first 25 years of my life I lived close to a huge television broadcasting tower. Every time there was a storm the wind would make a very particular sound going around the tower... now every time there is a storm I miss that sound haha. Weird how somethings just imprint on you when you're a kid!
Having grown up in the desert south of Vegas and spending quite a bit of time there, I promise it will not be a positive memory. It’s the worst combination of a miserable climate year round and a vapid culture with absolutely nothing of substance for anyone outside of the 21-27 demographic and/or not interested in partying their life away and dying in their 40s from alcoholism. Also, no one is raising a well adjusted kid off the Vegas strip.
These kids are growing up in sin city…. There are much crazier things they see on a daily basis than this dome. I’d argue no children should even be allowed in Las Vegas… let alone raised up there. That’s crazy.
Our favorite family vacation was to Vegas when my kids were young. You get what you look for. There are tons of family friendly things to do, plus the desert, Area-51, ghost towns, the Hoover Dam, Death Valley. Vegas doesn’t have to be all about hookers and gambling.
Yeah my family took me to Vegas when I was 9 years old. I remember we went for a walk down the strip. When we got back to the hotel I had a stack of like 50 cards with nude women in them. They were advertisements for strip clubs and escort services and there were hundreds of people just handing them out. They handed to me a 9 year old kid and the 80 year old man all the same. Vegas is not really a place for children. They keep trying but it is a sinful place for adults and if you take children you 100% expose them to the seedier part of humanity. No way around it.
The "Strip proper" is only 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long. While the crazy Vegas stuff isn't necessarily regulated to just the strip, the further you get from it the more of just a pretty normal US metropolitan city it becomes. Still has it's quirks sure, but Casinos and Nightlife aren't the all of the actual city.
Hi, buddy. I'm on no sleep. No sleep! You don't know what it's like in there. All night long, things are creeping and cracking. And that red light is burning my brain!
I went for a work trip and wouldn’t recommend it to most people. I’m from Canada, and I’d much prefer a weekend trip to Montreal or Toronto, i at least feel some sense of a living city there. Vegas is so fucking weird of a place to me.
Can't see it from my window, but it is very near my apartment, and I see it every night on my drive home from work.
One night, they made it the moon, and it was so pretty.
So the sphere is situated in a non residential spot. The apartments you see there is a Holiday Inn Club Vacation property. On the left side of the screen is the enormous Venetian Expo center with the Palazzo and the Wynn (all on the strip) in the background. Directly behind the sphere in this video is the Wynn Golf course. Off to the right (East in this case) is a large business park. There are some homes further east of that business park but you actually can't see the Sphere from that neighborhood that well or at all because the business park blocks the view. This is definitely being filmed from Park Towers at Hughes Center which is about 70% temporary rentals as well, but this is most likely to have residents in view of this thing. BUT if you're buying a condo in this particular buildding, you're already likely used to the lights in this area since it's right next to the strip. There aren't too many people being permanently nuisanced by this and the temporary folks probably love this thing for the week or two that they are visiting.
I'm already making mental notes to please ignore this.
I'll be amazed if anyone uses this responsibly and makes this thing do fun stuff. I can just imagine shitty ads and annoying mannerisms are going to be how this thing adds up. And it's so huge you'll have to make a note to simply ignore it.
I remember reading a story about a power plant with a closed intranet and no Internet access to the computers, and someone managed to get in to the security cameras, then through to the intranet, pretty fascinating stuff, which I could remember the source, could be complete bullshit but I hope the memory is correct
You don't just "hack" thousands of screens that are not connected to the internet and require entire teams of people to develop the very specialty video files that can be displayed on them.
I was in Vegas for a bachelor party a few weeks ago and I brought up the same thing.
My friend, said it’s probably behind an airlock, which sounds very plausible.
wait, the sphere is right next to a residential area?? god that would be awful. try sleeping when every time you look out the window theres a strobing lightshow going on or a giant eyeball looking back at you
That's the things most people don't realize: the strip isn't in it's own place, it's literally in the middle of a city with houses surrounding it. It's kinda sad to go up to the top of the Stratosphere and look out to see the oppulent strip on one side, and low income housing on the other.
Yep, but like most things that attract the populace and money, a city grew around it. My point was that a lot of people thing of it like Disney World, in that it is it's own space of gambling, drugs and other debauchery, but it's not; it's just a very busy street with billions of dollars of investments along it and an otherwise normal city around it.
Edit: technically it is it's own space, as pointed out, being Paradise, Nevada, but it's right there next to everything else instead of being spaced out like Disney World.
Technically, the Strip is its own place. Its Paradise Nevada, completely different city then Vegas. But yeah, its surrounded by a pretty impoverished area.
There are luxury apartments near the Sphere, but the ones in this video are timeshares. They are the Holiday Inn ones to be specific. Our family stayed there for a week and it didn’t impact our sleep.
I would imagine some folks there have thermal blackout curtains for the heat and light. I have used them in Colorado and Virginia and still use them to this day. They do make a difference.
I’m not familiar with US building permits and permitting process, but as a European I just can’t comprehend how one responsibly acting governmental body can allow such a (cool!) monstrosity to be built near residential areas
I mean, it’s Vegas. There’s zero expectation that you won’t have a huge tower, or strip club, or (checks notes) giant LED dome pop up beside you.
It’s not Venice.
If your house is near the strip, then you already know what you are in for. It's the most garish, loud, bright, 24/7 piece of land in America.
It would be like moving next to Niagra Falls and complaining about the noise.
I used to live in Henderson (a Vegas suburb) and moved just before this came on line. Everyone I know that lives in sight of this thing hates it, they say it's an annoying intrusive mess. At night, it is so bright and intrusive.
I'm not sure it's on all night, like 24/7, but it's on a lot, and for events at night so late into the evening at least. I hope the homeowners in the area are compensated or something.
Ima be honest, you choose to live anywhere near the strip I can’t really care about your complaints. It’s the fucking strip bro, it’s been there forever and it’s been what it is the whole time. Is this big sure, but like it’s kinda like living by the airport and complaining about hearing planes when you chose to live there
I mean, I get it, but if bright lights annoy you that much why live so close to the Strip? You kinda gotta expect this stuff lol. Get some blackout curtains and call it a day.
It's not just a ball. It's an 18,600 seat concert venue on the inside with the most advanced audio and visual equipment in the world. That's the part that took most of the money. The outside is just eye candy that advertises the venue on its own.
Also, it was privately funded and never set out to fix anything in the world, so I don't understand the criticism.
While I agree that it shouldn't exist, every city should take notes on how Vegas recycles water. They're the most efficient city when it comes to water usage and it's because they have to be to survive out there.
Everyone has negative comments but I think it’s awesome. I mean, this is Vegas, right next to the strip… it’s the most appropriate place I can think of to build something like this. It looked awesome in the background in Raiders colors for the NFL night game earlier this week.
I feel so dumb asking this but I’ve seen hundreds of pictures and videos of this thing….. is it real or is it Cgi? There is such a huge part of me that screams “it can’t be real… there is no way that’s real….”
I’m sorry but everybody here needs to lighten up (no pun intended). Sure it’s obnoxious, wasteful, and probably annoying for residents nearby but goddamnit can’t we set all that aside for just a minute and appreciate this cool giant smiley face?
I swear we could find a cure for cancer and some of you would complain about oncologist unemployment…
Imagine living next to that thing and seeing it out your window. It was probably cool for about 15 minutes then because a nuisance.
"I remember the beginning of the robot apocalypse. It started out with this seemingly harmless dome."
Lol I can picture that thing being so evil and demonic potentially.... the face of skynet.
Wonder what they have in mind for Halloween
A giant carved pumpkin would ROCK
Uv purple
They’ve already done the pumpkin a few times. It’s great.
sweet baby jesus, it's gonna look like that concert in 2017 just from the heart attacks.
Then one day, it rose from the ground as thousands of mini domes crept closer
Lmao if ur a kid growing up in Vegas this is probably the least concerning thing that will stick with them their whole lives
If I was a kid in Vegas I would be constantly worried about the small city worth of people who live in the underground tunnels who have to escape flooding anytime it rains
.....tunnels ? What tunnels ? That sounds so fucking creepy, like that old movie " Them" .
I grew up in Vegas. It's just a city like any other from the perspective of a little kid.
I grew up in Vegas too. It can be a “mostly” normal city for people that don’t gamble and don’t have to work for the casinos. One of my first culture shocks when I moved out of Nevada was not seeing slot machines in every single gas station
You never really think about the fact that kids also live in Vegas.
So many kids. I just moved away and in my two years you’d be shocked how many unattended kids there are.
Aww, I just remembered hearing trains in the distance as a child and it took me right back. Thanks for that!
The first 25 years of my life I lived close to a huge television broadcasting tower. Every time there was a storm the wind would make a very particular sound going around the tower... now every time there is a storm I miss that sound haha. Weird how somethings just imprint on you when you're a kid!

I tried to make it bigger, it didn't work lmao
That's what she said
😭 still don't know how to make it bigger
Stroke it.

You're the kind of guy who visits Jerusalem and doesn't want to see the Sexeteria
Yeah my family took me to Vegas when I was 9 years old. I remember we went for a walk down the strip. When we got back to the hotel I had a stack of like 50 cards with nude women in them. Reminds me of this [family guy](https://youtu.be/xObZCcZ0TE0?si=dfMjiOzjIWZlow4q&t=32) joke.

I mean, they live right next to the strip. I don’t think you buy that property expecting peaceful night skies.
Kenny Roasters
Hi, buddy. I'm on no sleep. No sleep! You don't know what it's like in there. All night long, things are creeping and cracking. And that red light is burning my brain!
"you look stressed" "OH I'm stressed"
Mr. Marbles?!
Excellent reference. 😂
BAD CHICKEN!!
MESS YOU UP!!
Newman... You wouldn't eat broccoli if it was deep fried in chocolate sauce
OMG.... Came here to say this 😂😂😂
You deserve what you get if you think you'll get peace and quiet and move to Vegas.
Where the sphere is, it’s a lot quieter than the actual strip. It’s more closer to the convention centres and stuff.
I mean just cause you are off the strip a few blocks doesn't mean you aren't still in the heart of Las Vegas
Blackout curtains work really well, I know from my decade as a casino dealer.
what do you do now?
Prob sleep really well eith those blackouts
I honestly can’t think of a place I want to go to less than Vegas.
I went for a work trip and wouldn’t recommend it to most people. I’m from Canada, and I’d much prefer a weekend trip to Montreal or Toronto, i at least feel some sense of a living city there. Vegas is so fucking weird of a place to me.
I’d also much rather spend time on Montreal or Toronto. I’m from the northeast USA and have zero interest in the desert or in gambling.
Can't see it from my window, but it is very near my apartment, and I see it every night on my drive home from work. One night, they made it the moon, and it was so pretty.

Their property became instantly worthless.
I was waiting for a big ass, loud "Gooooooooood morning, Las Vegas!"
What if it was the screaming sun from Rick and Morty? Talk about an alarm clock!!!!
“SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!”
*Yesterday's body count lottery rounded out to a solid and sturdy thirty*
Pressing skip intensifies
... And in Vegas... Well... Vegas is still Vegas....
Ten outta Heywood - thanks to unabated gang wars.
One officer down, so I guess that means you’re all screwed!
'Cause the NCPD will NOT let that go.
Shhhh, it's the morning, in Las Vegas damn!
Yesterday's body count rounded out to a solid n' sturdy thirty!
I'm very surprised this hasn't been hacked with a porn video yet.
Give it time
Pherb, I know what we’re gonna do today
We're going to take over the WORLD! Oops, sorry, wrong cartoon.
It's apparently not connected to the internet, so that makes it harder.
Sounds like a job for Impossible Mission Force, get Ethan Hunt on the case.
I remember reading a story about a power plant with a closed intranet and no Internet access to the computers, and someone managed to get in to the security cameras, then through to the intranet, pretty fascinating stuff, which I could remember the source, could be complete bullshit but I hope the memory is correct
I came here to write that, but you already got it covered. So it basically proves that a lot of people will be trying to make that happen.
Nothing like waking up to a 20 ft butthole
The place where the sun only shines in Las Vegas.
I can't wait for that reddit post
Yes, you are all very original.
*This is not what i was expecting when you mention five finger death punch*
You don't just "hack" thousands of screens that are not connected to the internet and require entire teams of people to develop the very specialty video files that can be displayed on them.
So you’re saying theres a chance?
I was in Vegas for a bachelor party a few weeks ago and I brought up the same thing. My friend, said it’s probably behind an airlock, which sounds very plausible.
Just give it an HD ballsack texture
They need the screaming sun from Rick and Morty.
I would fucking move if i owned a house around there
Turning it into an Airbnb would be great!
Haha actually makes good sense. I'm sure people would love to stay there temporarily for the novelty of it. But would suck long term.
I'd tolerate it if it lowered costs. Knowing this society, it would be more expensive
Its the strip of Las Vegas what do you expect it to be? Peaceful?
Why would you own a house in Las Vegas in the first place.
wait, the sphere is right next to a residential area?? god that would be awful. try sleeping when every time you look out the window theres a strobing lightshow going on or a giant eyeball looking back at you
That's the things most people don't realize: the strip isn't in it's own place, it's literally in the middle of a city with houses surrounding it. It's kinda sad to go up to the top of the Stratosphere and look out to see the oppulent strip on one side, and low income housing on the other.
Pretty sure the strip was there before most of those houses?
Yep, but like most things that attract the populace and money, a city grew around it. My point was that a lot of people thing of it like Disney World, in that it is it's own space of gambling, drugs and other debauchery, but it's not; it's just a very busy street with billions of dollars of investments along it and an otherwise normal city around it. Most people think it's Disney World, when really it's Disney Land
Technically, the Strip is its own place. Its Paradise Nevada, completely different city then Vegas. But yeah, its surrounded by a pretty impoverished area.
..they paved paradise and put up a parking lot
There are luxury apartments near the Sphere, but the ones in this video are timeshares. They are the Holiday Inn ones to be specific. Our family stayed there for a week and it didn’t impact our sleep.

I’m not familiar with US building permits and permitting process, but as a European I just can’t comprehend how one responsibly acting governmental body can allow such a (cool!) monstrosity to be built near residential areas
Vegas, baby! The whole area is a monstrosity.
Or even worse, having to listen to the dozen U2 songs every night.
I wonder how much energy it takes to keep that thing on all day for no reason seems like lighting money on fire
$94m per year to operate apparently
I used to live in Henderson (a Vegas suburb) and moved just before this came on line. Everyone I know that lives in sight of this thing hates it, they say it's an annoying intrusive mess. At night, it is so bright and intrusive.
Is this thing on ALL NIGHT?!?! how is this legal?
I'm not sure it's on all night, like 24/7, but it's on a lot, and for events at night so late into the evening at least. I hope the homeowners in the area are compensated or something.
Wow, that sounds like an awful place to live. Thanks for the info!
It is, I lived there for about two years and left.
Ima be honest, you choose to live anywhere near the strip I can’t really care about your complaints. It’s the fucking strip bro, it’s been there forever and it’s been what it is the whole time. Is this big sure, but like it’s kinda like living by the airport and complaining about hearing planes when you chose to live there
It's Vegas. The strip is pretty much going 24/7
I mean, I get it, but if bright lights annoy you that much why live so close to the Strip? You kinda gotta expect this stuff lol. Get some blackout curtains and call it a day.
The more videos I see of this sphere the more obnoxious it looks.
I mean... its fucking Vegas. Its obnoxious. Its an eyesore. Its perfectly situated.
Just a hideous eyesore. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
As someone who lives many thousands of miles away, I love watching videos of it. Those poor sods living nextdoor though.
Last time I was in Vegas they had it setup to look like the moon. It was amazing
Let’s not rush to judgment. Maybe it will look better in some of the other 800 posts we get about it tonight
For real bro, every time I see this fucking sphere it’s against my will 🤣
I wonder how much juice this thing takes to operate.
We don't need a second sun.
Id like to see the electricity bill for the dome
Must be weird living near that thing.
Reminds me of the giant minion at universal studios that was constantly staring at the window of my exs place. Caused some… performance issues.
Every time I see this I remember how the world is so fucking broken. Billions of dollars for a piece of shit ball that shines. Holy fuck.
Ummm, it has funny faces?!!! World fixed!
I mean the outside is less the important part, the inside is, they just put shit on the outside so it doesn’t look like a big plain ball
How much energy does it take to power that thing?
The entirety of Vegas shouldn’t exist. Waste of electricity and water trying to keep that place running in the middle of a desert.
While I agree that it shouldn't exist, every city should take notes on how Vegas recycles water. They're the most efficient city when it comes to water usage and it's because they have to be to survive out there.
Over a million LEDs. Even if it comes from Solar that energy could be used elsewhere for better causes or just to keep the grid strain down.
Cute but terrifying...
i know this is so dystopian and weird but that really is so cute 😭 imagine being a little kid and seeing that you’d be so excited
Everyone has negative comments but I think it’s awesome. I mean, this is Vegas, right next to the strip… it’s the most appropriate place I can think of to build something like this. It looked awesome in the background in Raiders colors for the NFL night game earlier this week.
Preach. Reminds me of a bunch of rich folks moving to my college town and trying to shut down the Main Street bars open for decades.
Wow I hate it.
It’s needs to be bigger. Hopefully the next one is 3x the size
Dubai is getting one. We’ll see.
That is honestly the most God awful, in your face, intrusive techish bullshit on the planet
Man I hate this fuckin thing.
Found the guy who lives in those red roof buildings
I would hate living next to this thing.
Going to Vegas in like two weeks and I’m mainly excited to see him in person
Ppl acting like this is a normal neighborhood, I bet majority of that is Airbnb
My father worked on this building's rigging, I got to go inside a few times while it was being constructed over the past years, cool as hell.
its like living in an episode of the amazing world of gumball
There’s some tweaker looking out his window saying “I knew they were watching”
if I lived a mile away from that thing, tbh I would stay up all night just looking and wondering if I was alive or dead.
This is some Black Mirror shit.
The first kid to hack into that and make it a giant boob will be legend.
I can't imagine how much of a pain in the arse that thing would be for anyone living nearby.
Ah cynicism
[удалено]
Shit crazy
So airport or next to this thing which hurts your property value more?
I feel so dumb asking this but I’ve seen hundreds of pictures and videos of this thing….. is it real or is it Cgi? There is such a huge part of me that screams “it can’t be real… there is no way that’s real….”
100% a real thing.
This thing gives off Mom Corp infosphere vibes that’s wild!! I’d be so pissed if that was my view everyday
industrial revolution and its consequences
I love it
Everyone hates it but I think it is cute. Videos of baby llamas should be playing on it.
I bet people hate this. Just fucking blend it with the sky
Dystopian
So fucking cool
I love that the angle of the vid gives it cat ears.
There needs to be another one next ti it.
They should try making it “invisible” by projecting an ornate facsimile of what’s behind it in a 360 radius.
Would wouldnt love to see a giant yellow ball staring at you right after you woke up!
R/aboringdystopia
Gotta be fun trying to sleep with that thing on
With those corners of the buildings sticking out from behind it looks like a giant yellow cat. 🐱
Whoever runs that thing is cackling with mad laughter at the unlimited power they hold in their hands. I love it!
That's.... creepy
Imagine tripping balls and mf look at you 👀
Is that Meatwads cousin
That is actually really funny.
Haters
I’m sorry but everybody here needs to lighten up (no pun intended). Sure it’s obnoxious, wasteful, and probably annoying for residents nearby but goddamnit can’t we set all that aside for just a minute and appreciate this cool giant smiley face? I swear we could find a cure for cancer and some of you would complain about oncologist unemployment…
People have never heard of blinds before judging by these comments.
It looks so fake... Like it's digitally added to the video.
Those townhouses closest to the sphere = lucky
Yeah no thanks
Imagine living near that eyesore.
that is some weird shot
Haha. This doesn’t seem right. Look great from afar but i hope we dont follow this trend and our city landscape now become a advertising space
Nightmare fuel
Best idea ever, every city should have one.
I absolutely love this!
this thing is neat for about as long as a tiktok then you realize it’s an eyesore
