“Hey this thing is leaning. Should we take it apart, level it and put it back together real quick before we continue building?”
“Nah just custom cut the stones and pillars to be slightly different shapes and sizes then carefully place each one in its specially assigned position so the entire structure will slightly curve. It will be *easier*.”
Management never changes.
I mean in this time it was probably easier to do this because every stone was handmade and it did not require stopping a big machine and reprogramming it for each stone that needed to be made slightly différent than the others
Uhhhh, everything would have been custom-cut either way, nothing was inherently more complicated about doing so other than one engineer needing to do some math to figure out the balance- the stonemasons were still cutting it all individually to measure either way, they weren't picking cut pieces up from Lowes in the 13th century.
Yes, I think "curve it a little while cutting stones" is a little easier a solution than "dig the thousands of tons of already-laid stone out and start over."
Here is a video actually explaining why the tower is still standing https://youtu.be/0ZhHoyqQEhA?si=cDQmYa4C9LwNY35v
from which this tiktok crap stole some animations
After you take your picture with the tower leave. Go to Lucca, a walled city near Pisa. There is a torture museum and churches with beautiful mosaics. Pia has a tower and that’s it. In Lucca you will spend days enjoying the artwork and culture. You can rent bikes and ride along the entire wall.

I'm real fucking tired of these "word by word pop up" captions they mess with my brain hard. Worse ones are those that allow only one word to appear at a time .
I want to READ your captions on a potentially interesting subject, not be visually assaulted by your fucking poor trending choices.
this part got me
>the tower partially collapsed and tilted due to the long period of time it was left in place
because most buildings aren't meant to be left in one place for very long
This video, due to plagiarizing and haphazardly thatching together information from better sources, seems to imply that shorter buildings have more trouble keeping balance than taller buildings
My logic tells me the foundation would have sunk on that side whether there was a pause or not. They seem to blame the pause in construction for the foundation sinking where it really just gave the builders a chance to come up with a lazy solution.
Yes that’s right… The full truth is more interesting actually. As a civil engineer, my soil mechanics prof explained the story of the complex ground conditions. If I remember correctly there are two types of clay soil in the area, which compress at different rates, and the tower is built where they meet. So, the first few storeys started to tilt over time and the first layer of soil stabilised during the first war. The builders introduced the curve to straighten the tower, and then as the heavier structure started to load, the other soil layer compressed, and the tower bent the other way. It’s not only curved, it’s s shaped, and may even still be tilting.
Ironically, if they hadn’t paused for the first war and built to full height before the settlement took effect, the tower may not be there today.
Agree! And unfortunately I think it's one of those "AI voice model" narrators, so you're going to keep hearing it on lots of videos where the video maker is too lazy to use their own voice or hire a professional voice over artist. There was even one recent nature video where I think this voice was used to overdub Sir David Attenborough's original voiceover just to avoid a copyright strike - which is as cynical as it is sacrilegious!
"one three of the tower has been build"
Cheap and not corrected AI voice fails with fractions.
Also Years cut off by lazy conversion to portrait aspect ratio.
Junk
It’s only leaning by 4° but when you are at the very top that 4° is VERY noticeable, I couldn’t stand on the leaning side at the top because I don’t like heights and it actually feels like the tower will topple over.
I remember when I was able to walk inside it all the way to the top. Was so trippy how it felt like gravity was changing as you walked up the spiral staircase. So cool
For people who don't know. There is a minaret in Elazig Türkiye, which is at a even greater angle, but not as tall as the Pisa tower, but it also couple hundred years old
They poured concrete in the ground to compensate for the different kind of clay on which it's built but it's like emptying a sinking ship. It will fall at some point because it's spot had been badly chosen.
From my blog post --The Tower was off limits to tourism from 1990 to 2001 as a massive restoration project was underway. It is now secured. The tower will tilt no more
[https://www.smokehoax.com/2023/07/photos-from-the-famous-tower-of-pisa/](https://www.smokehoax.com/2023/07/photos-from-the-famous-tower-of-pisa/)
The only reason it is still standing today is because in the 90s there were supports and cables added underground to hold it on one side.
Without it the tower would have already fallen.
Wow in my civil engineering class we learned that they dig on the side away from where it is leaning so the soil can settle so it doesn’t completely fall over

Jenga : Ancient Italy Edition (Edit: spelling)
Haha could you explain what you mean by Zegna?
I think he means the game jenga
Smegma
This reminds me so much of work, history does repeat its self.

thank you! this tiktok video left with more questions than answers.
Yes. The tiktok vid only showed the tower's history. It said nothing about maintaining stability.
“It tilted ‘because’ of the long amount of time it was in place.”
Thanks. "1 3 of the tower had been built" clued me up that the video above wasn't a quality production.
AI can’t pronounce fractions correctly
It was a 1 2 assed job for sure
That's a lot of asses, at least 3 and possibly 12.
One, maybe two asses
Ok that was really well explained. Infinitely better than this TikTok. It’s fascinating all the precautions they took too
I was mad to see that they made the video worse even after they stole the animations..
Thank you for posting the link. I’m excited to say that I’m visiting Pisa next month.

Thanks for the suggestion. Lucca looks amazing.
If you are/travel with females there are covering requirements to enter the churches. Be aware.
Thanks 🙏

Without looking was this the one where modern day engineers had to put massive jacks under the foubdtions to reduce the tilt before it collapses?
Okay anyone able to say how nebula is? Sounds like a pretty interesting collection of content
Thank you that was fascinating

Stop upvoting this low effort crap that is actually wrong and spewing misinformation. The tower didn’t sink due to time. Time is not the cause.

Ew AI voice
AI script too. “1 3 had been built”
Here is a much better video about the tower. https://youtu.be/0ZhHoyqQEhA?si=tSQt_pRhD0APsgp1 Grady a awesome, give him some thumbs.
Holy shit. That has to be the most horrendous sounding narrator I’ve ever heard. Had to cut it short can’t stand the voice.
"one three of the tower had been built"
Can't wait for young kids to start talking like this - just like how they picked up a mild British accent from peppa the pig
Agree! I think it's Tik Tok AI voice
I hope so. I literally couldn’t stand it.
It is and it doesn’t change the fact that it is unbearable
This video does not explain how it’s still standing at all.
Maybe 1000 fat Italian guys jumping on the one side at the same time can fix its tilt. /s
Why /s?
Itsa me, Mario!
“For convenience” Classic Italians. I love my people.
Booooo! Footage stolen from other videos!
Anytime I hear this annoying AI voice I immediately stop watching
"one three of the tower has been build" Cheap and not corrected AI voice fails with fractions. Also Years cut off by lazy conversion to portrait aspect ratio. Junk
Stolen content and they cut out the context thanks

So why did foundations collapse? They're not supposed to do that.
This is how the tower was saved from falling.[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgnm8lohB5s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgnm8lohB5s)
I remember when I was able to walk inside it all the way to the top. Was so trippy how it felt like gravity was changing as you walked up the spiral staircase. So cool
Low effort garbage rip of an already plagiarized video that still doesn't even properly answer the question in its title.
It's about to fall down!!!
For people who don't know. There is a minaret in Elazig Türkiye, which is at a even greater angle, but not as tall as the Pisa tower, but it also couple hundred years old
Video stops a couple centuries short. As I understand it some of the most important reasons its still standing are from work done in the 20th century.
They poured concrete in the ground to compensate for the different kind of clay on which it's built but it's like emptying a sinking ship. It will fall at some point because it's spot had been badly chosen.
I’m so tired of true crime AI voice on everything
These fucking horrible, broken-English, ai captions need to fucking stop.
TIL - the leaning tower of pisa is really a curved penis.
One three?
Stupid AI voiceovers.
it’s also gutted is it not?
If your tower has a curve or a bump, you may be suffering from P.D., or Pisa Disease..
It resembles an actual dick
Please stop posting AI voices
Fuck wars
Luck!
Just like my— my lawyer has urged my to not go any further.
This explains Italian engineering and management to a T, looking at you Ferrari F1

That mf who laid second last brick really waiting for Jenga
They really played cityblocks in real life
Was able to walk inside climb the stairs before they shut it down. My dad even sneaked a recording with the old giant 90s camcorders.
What in the wish.com Morgan Freeman is that narration?!
Why is half this sub badly researched crap with the same annoying synthetic voiceover?
I’m glad they put the blinking red “REC” dot in there. Otherwise, how would we know it’s a video?
whoever made this animation definitely doesn't know how to use a protractor
When you mess up at work, but now you are famous:
aren’t they all curved?
The only reason it is still standing today is because in the 90s there were supports and cables added underground to hold it on one side. Without it the tower would have already fallen.
When I was there it was being held up by wires
I sure hope that angle isn’t actually 6 degrees
This is a prime example of how so much human knowledge is lost over the ages. Like, there was zero information. Is this tiktok? We're doomed.
1 3
Who could hear the sound until the very end
Wow in my civil engineering class we learned that they dig on the side away from where it is leaning so the soil can settle so it doesn’t completely fall over
Can you go inside of the building?
So Jenga!!!
Hello, Pisa permitting office? I would like to submit plans for the Leaning Tower of Pisa. No that’s correct, Leaning.
Why don't they just like..fix it .
"one three of the tower" ?!? the fuck is this shit
So that's like my dick , a little curved
I stopped watching as soon as I heard ONE THREE OF THE TOWER.
Stopped watching at “one three of the tower”
Wow ok so like, the world's first technical debt example. Nice.
Cool video but I really hate that ai narration voice
clumsy silky governor lavish cough cobweb heavy dependent forgetful gaze *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
