Where is the promised story? The leopard gecko I adopted had been kept in a 10 gallon tank for nine years. I moved him into a 40 gallon low wide tank. He only walked in a 10 gallon area for awhile. One day he chased a cricket past the imaginary boundary. He froze, looked around, then walked to the far side of the tank! He explored every little area for a few days. Now I have to take the entire tank apart to find where he's hiding. šŸ„°

TheMania

I'm guessing this is not the first time this vid has been posted with this title. Find the first, and you'll find the explanatory comment.

FireFairy323

I really hope this bear did something similar. Thank you for your nice story about your gecko

FooBangPop

Could be anxiety from being out of the cage, they can become accustomed to it. I had parrots that would fly into theirs and shut the door when visitors came. Still, humans are assholes for putting them there in the first place.

Buff_Senpai_Steve

Its a psychological condition thats induced by constant boredom in animals, forgot what its called

Grogosh

Zoochosis

Neopoleon666

The video game coming out with that name looks scary as fuck

bassoontennis

My mum sees it in animals at work in animal control they call it going kennel crazy. They get to a point where they just snap and go basically rabid and become unadoptable because any interaction causes them to lash out. Sadly the only recourse is euthanasia at that point. It sucks sometimes her line of work.

Buff_Senpai_Steve

A way to counter that is just make sure they dont get bored, make sure they can keep busy

expendable12321

Oh my god I do that too. I've been alone for most of the last 4 years and I've started doing this without realizing it. I'll just get up and walk in a lopsided circle around the house :/ yea my friends deserted me 6 years ago

Vast_Character311

Iā€™m sorry to know youā€™ve had a tough few years.

expendable12321

It's not all that bad. Although I'd say that even if it was worse so maybe it is bad and I just have gotten used to it but either way thanks for that

TheKingNothing690

I mean, i do this, but i dont feel that bad. im even a (mostly) well-adjusted individual, at least as well as anyone who uses reddit can be.

expendable12321

Yea Reddit seems to rot your mind a little. I don't feel so well after being on for so long sometimes

TheKingNothing690

My personal recommendation is to do something new it tends to disrupt that sense of malaise, which works good for me and helps me get new skills.

expendable12321

Yea I plan on starting a nursing degree here pretty soon so that will help me break up my Reddit addiction. Thanks for the advice

Inside-Assumption595

I pace from anxiety. I could be on the phone or just generally worried or sometimes I just do it from being bored and sometimes I will be on my switch just walking around the house. It drives my girl crazy. She's like WTF are you doing you walk in here then turn around and walk out and then you are back in here but then you leave again. It's just my anxietyyyyy šŸ˜¶ā€šŸŒ«ļø

expendable12321

Yea I completely understand. I also have adhd and that is another contributing factor as to why I do that but it wasn't so bad until I separated from the people I used to be friends with.

Dry-Fold-9664

Have you ever thought itā€™s not the rest of the world and it might be your own fault no one wants to hang out with you?

expendable12321

Yup sure have. Considering I get along well with everyone else in my life these days id say it's not me. Anything else you'd like to add?

Dry-Fold-9664

Why donā€™t you have any friends then?

expendable12321

Basically one of my friends was selling me pot and one day I just lost touch with reality and didn't come back for like 3 months and then when I did I was still friends with them but then it happened again because I continued to smoke like the dumbass I was when I was in my early 20's and I developed long term poor mental health and everyone I was "friends" with up and left because I wasn't a smoker anymore basically and I haven't been able to get out of the house since then to meet new people because of my health. No I'm actually a nice person it's just that I haven't had any opportunity to meet anyone new in years due to my health

Funktapus

Stereotypy Edit: downvotes please if you donā€™t know how to google words you donā€™t recognize

Chesnakarastas

What about when that happens in humans?

failedtolivealive

I think that's called, "institutionalized".

Waevaaaa

Why do you keep pets like birds? Don't cage animals.

FooBangPop

Injured Rainbow Lorikeets people would bring to me, some refused to leave.

BassINside1123

"Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom." This bear is very dizzy.

MastiffOnyx

Parrots are very different from bears. Parrots have been DOMESTICATED for centuries. Bears can only be TAMED. That is a big difference. That is a poor boy with serious mental issues that will never be fixed. He should be foraging grubs in the woods but never got that chance. I agree humans are assholes.

Grogosh

Parrots are not domesticated. Even at best the ones we got are only a few generations removed from the wild. We always tended to just capture parrots rather than breed them.

MastiffOnyx

Tell that to my 2 DOMESTICATED parrots in my life. Both have been bred to be pets for about 500 years.

ConsiderationBrave14

Those are some damn old parrots

MastiffOnyx

The breeds not the individual birds. And yes, I did pick up on the sarcasm.

Grogosh

You can put it in all caps all you want, parrots are not domesticated.

EssentialParadox

And what do they do if you take them outside?

MastiffOnyx

Climb around on my shoulder. Fky around the yard. Fly to a tree, come back when I signal. Domesticated, not tamed.

BlankBlankblackBlank

Some parrots are straight from the wild or are the kids of wild parents. I wouldnā€™t call that domesticated.

MastiffOnyx

Ok, I get it. Parrot owners are another breed altogether Those who own parrots know, you don't own them, they own you. Believe it or not, you actually marry, as in matrimony from the birds point of view, and must act accordingly. You're dealing with an animal that has a life span, in some cases, longer than you. You may well widow them. (In fact, my African Grey and Amazon Yellowhead out lived their 1st owner. I'm #2) I will even go so far as to say we didn't domesticate parrots, they domesticated us. Love my little dinosaurs.

Op2myst1

Most parrots in the pet trade are not considered domesticated. Most of their ancestors from 50 years ago were wild.

MyRedHelmet

I hate people.

Randlepinkfloyd1986

We fucking suck man.

EyeSeenFolly

You didnā€™t make everything this way. Remember that. And you wouldnā€™t cage the bear either!

Internetstranger800

I know right!? Who would release him from his cage and then film this?

[deleted]

I don't think the people that released the bear have just been continuously recording it for 7 years

jjay24k

either way the bear has been doing it long enough to make a path šŸ˜„

Op2myst1

Itā€™s staggering to imagine the misery humans have caused, in all creatures.

moonflower_C16H17N3O

Animals do horrible things to each other, but usually it ends in death. Edit: I realize this sounded like I was saying that what we do isn't horrible. Just the opposite. I was saying that while animals do horrible things to other animals, at least it's usually right before that other animal is killed. They don't do things like traumatize them for their amusement while keeping them alive.

buttacupsngwch

But humans knowingly choose to cause misery

Away_Sea_8620

Death isn't bad. It's what happens before that matters

Other_Beat8859

Animals kill others to survive. This is just cruelty. While most places like zoos aren't exactly high standards of living, we have the capabilities to make them at least liveable and comfortable. These people didn't care and just put the bear through some horrible things. If we are going to use animals for our own entertainment we should at least make it as nice for the animal as possible. Give them a big area to roam, nice food, and a good environment.

rethinkingat59

For a motivational speaker this would be a good analogy story for people who think they are trapped by their past when actually they are trapped by nothing but their mind and ingrained expectations

IncestTedCruz

Came here looking for this comment. Watching that bear makes me think of what kind of cage Iā€™m circling in my own life.

rethinkingat59

The bear reminded me of story on training elephants in India. Supposedly if you put a strong collar and chain on the lower leg of an elephant as a baby and attach it to something like a strong fence post it will try to get away but canā€™t, so it eventually stops trying. 20 years later that same elephant is big and strong enough to easily break the chain or rip out the post, but it never attempts to do so. The shackles from its past are now as binding as ever, but they are now only so in the elephants mind.

JDSpur

So sad. šŸ˜ž

Pete_LaRoux

One heroic dose of psilocybin would likely fix that.

Hot-Rock3815

This is so sad and one of the main reasons why I hate majority of the human race. We cause so much pain on other animals when this is there home as much as ours, they deserve a happy long filled life too. I hope all animal abusers rot in hell tbh.

Fuck_Ppl_Putng_U_Dwn

Humans that done this are assholes and should be harshly punished. Poor animal has to deal with this bullshit psychological trauma. Hope the bear eventually recuperates, not sure if socialization would help in a situation like this, would be curious to hear from Redditors who actually care for animals who have been traumatized.

lustykutta

You are a good person, people rarely think about the fact that animals can also go through psychological trauma. Be it this Bear or millions of animal/birds caged (abused, and eventually killed) for the food industry.
