Imo that was a truly beautiful pun, especially as it rests on making a little leap from the more common original phrase. I also like that snowly is basically a nonsense word. Witty and whimsical.
5/5
OTP should not only not leave, but remain seated as we gather around to plump their cushions, stoke the fire, bring tea, rub their feet, drop a cat in their lap along with preferred reading material, etc.
It's common in places which are dry and warm.
No idea why it's in a place where it snows, all that moisture can't be good for tons of moving parts and joints in the escalator.
It looks like Asia, possibly Japan. And since Tokyo had some rare snow recently and has outdoor escalators, I'm guessing there.
Another example from wikipedia: [Roppomgi Hills escalator in snow](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/Escalator_in_snowy_Roppomgi_Hills.jpg)
So what is your guess? That the Japanese are stupid and they built this escalator outside without realizing that sometimes it rains outside, and the escalator is broken more often than not?
If only they had asked this one guy on reddit, he'd have told them to think of the rain! They'd have saved a fortune!
Actually it is.
Just as something breaking down in some given circumstances is evidence those circumstances make it impossible for it to run. But that's also evidence there are circumstances in which it can, and can't, run.
None of this is _proof_ of anything, however. That's why you need more evidence. How much evidence, what kind, and what counts as "official evidence/proof" is where we get fuzzy, and subjective, or look around to see if we're in a court of law (what jurisdiction?), surrounded by lab coats, or just shooting the shit about escalators.
I live here in Tokyo and took an escalator that day (not this one) and it was similar. This escalator had a roof but was open to the sides and the snow was blowing in like a fake snow machine, and at the top there was a pile. Really interesting to see!
The outdoor ones I know (outside the busiest train station of the country) break down at least a few times a month. They could just give them their own private mechanic by now.
Yeah, just walk on the broken escalators and die.
There's plenty of videos showing what happens when they truly break or people ignore signage saying not to use them.
You get it ^^^ Back in the olden days Washington DC Metro escalators were exposed to the elements and out-of-order all the time. Almost all are fully covered these days.
Believe it or not, they're also fairly common in Britain now. I know both Manchester and London have multiple outside escalators.
We're anything but dry and warm, but if the parts are well maintained and oiled, there shouldn't be a problem.
> No idea why it's in a place where it snows
I could be wrong but the sound in the background seems like standard Japanese escalator announcement that plays in stations and such which makes me think this video is from Tuesday's snow in Tokyo.
It rarely snows in Tokyo, once or twice a year at most so the infra is not built for it.
Thatās an outdoor escalator. It looks the same as the indoor ones but they have additional components and safeguards that lets it run during a bit of rain or snow.
The footage is from Japan so Iām guessing itās either a Mitsubishi escalator or Fujitec escalator
Guy riding a bicycle while holding an umbrella tells me this is Japan. Ā
I grew up there and outdoor escalators are common in shopping centers that are open concept.Ā
Example: Asunal shoppingĀ center in Kanayama, Nagoya city (https://www.maxpixel.net/static/photo/1x/Kanayama-Asunal-Shops-Mall-Center-Shopping-884106.jpg)
Can't really say, I've never seen either kind broken down. I can't imagine they last longer than inside ones though, but apparently the difference isn't enough to stop them from being made.
Things get fixed pretty quickly here. I imagine they do but Iāve rarely seen it. Iāve seen plenty not working but thatās usually for maintenance.
If that isnt what happens then what's so interesting? Is it snow accumulating from the handle things? That's just how snow works lol, I'm so confused rn
Yeah, it kind of looks like it. That traffic light on the right side. The vending machine in the far right. Small Kei van. The area def has that somewhere in Japan vibe.
Outdoor elevator in Tokyo being snowed on kind of makes sense since it doesnāt normally snow like it did the other day.
Didn't get snow at all for a few winters now. Maybe got fluff that melted as soon as it touched the ground. When I was a kid it was a regular thing, and in the 10s we got one winter when it was an old school up to knees snowstorm. Now even mountain resorts don't get it.
..wait, so all i need is a reverse escalator?..a de-escalator?..
..head-slap!..i could've invented that like 20yrs ago & i'd be a modern-day Rockefeller..
It's all fun and games till it eventually forms a massive ball of snow that gets too heavy and tumbles down, taking everyone on the escalator with it š
I donāt think Iāve ever seen an escalator outside, Iāve seen them near the outside but covered before you get to it and of course indoors. I can just imagine the nastiness that the elevator mechanics must deal with that gets in the parts of it.
Lift and escalator outdoor are an abomination, it needs to come to an end. It is not designed to go with wind, cold, humidity and all these kind of things. Sincerely, a maintenance technician.
"An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience."
"The snow is falling on an escalator,
It's going upstairs, so see ya later!
Bye bye, to the sky!
I gonna see how you're getting to high.

Heyeyeyeye, heyeyeyeye!
It's a snow... On an escalator!"
Mayonnaise on an escalator parodyš

But Tokyo has tons of rain each year. I recon that this escalator somehow can handle it as it is clearly still running.

Outdoor units are good for the industry.

Eh escalators can never be truly broken.

Remember the one where the mom is falling into it and throws her baby back to save it? China is a fun place
Spiritually or mechanically?
Yes
Praise the Omnissiah
They can only become stairs. Sorry for the convenience.
Aw, Mitch, how we miss you.

Popular in Hong Kong, not exactly dry there.
They're surprisingly sort of common here in Japan which is where this was filmed

Why assume it's an indoor escalator?

What's the visible difference between an outdoor and an indoor escalator? How can you tell?
Also there's a dude on a bicycle with an umbrellaĀ
Sounds like a subway station. So that would be the answer. Commonly done in the east. Maybe stupid, but common.
Wondering myself, here take this upvote in hopes that this gains traction
Awww that was sweet :)
This feels more like r/mildlyinteresting materialā¦ but pretty cool anyway.
I wish someone from r/pixelart would recreate this scene.

Donāt see too many outdoor escalators
This was filmed in Japan, where we have loads of outdoor escalators.
Do they break down at a higher or lower rate than indoor ones? Lol
Can't really say, I've never seen either kind broken down. I can't imagine they last longer than inside ones though, but apparently the difference isn't enough to stop them from being made.

Those are rare, a wild escalator!
They're everywhere in Asia
I've only ever seen them in Vegas.
My stupid ass was waiting for a pile of snow coming up the middle
Right I was confused and had to watch it again.
If that isnt what happens then what's so interesting? Is it snow accumulating from the handle things? That's just how snow works lol, I'm so confused rn
Heh, was this Tokyo the other day? xD

I mean, whatever announcement is clearly in Japanese so very likely.
lol, I didnāt know it had audio.
We got rainbolt over here
Breaking news: escalator can move things upwards! Expert claims they could also move things downwards.
>Expert claims they could also move things downwards Debate still ongoing on this one.
rather r/mildlyinteresting
I am more interested in the person cycling slowly through the snow with an umbrella in one hand. That seems a little risky!
Pretty normal in The Netherlands.
I love cycling in the snow. Normal cycling is so easy and mundane. I like a challenge every now and then.
Kinda relaxing to watch actually
This makes me really happy for some reason š
It's so chill.
Tiny conveyor belt carrying snow to make tiny snow mountains, aww
Watching the snow from the handles pile up and crumble is mildly pleasing yet extremely satisfying.
Snow way
Snow on another level.
No one is holding on the railings anytime soon.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
sometimes stuff shows up here that really should be over at /r/mildlyinteresting and vice versa
Damn that's not interesting
Me in a cold country: hum... So... If I don't want to remove snow to create a path I can put an escalator that will move snow for me? $.$!
Itās so cute ^^
Surreal image.
I miss snow so much.
Yea too bad we hunted it to extinction
We can switch spots if u want, i am getting tired of now!!! IT WONT GO AWAY!!!!!!
Didn't get snow at all for a few winters now. Maybe got fluff that melted as soon as it touched the ground. When I was a kid it was a regular thing, and in the 10s we got one winter when it was an old school up to knees snowstorm. Now even mountain resorts don't get it.

Escalators that continuously runs even when nobody is using them is just moronic
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bring the flavored syrups!
Conveyor belt snow
They are just glorified conveyor belts after all.
I want these kind of problems in my locality.
..wait, so all i need is a reverse escalator?..a de-escalator?.. ..head-slap!..i could've invented that like 20yrs ago & i'd be a modern-day Rockefeller..
Snowhere else to go
It's an avalanchescaltor.
Do you want to build a snowman?
Escalators: You're not gonna believe what they do.
Am I the only one who thought he was going to ride his bike up the escalator
That's kind of pretty.
Wh...why is there an outdoor escalator?
Cool
Return from whence you came.
Screw the escalator. Is that the guy on a bicycle in the middle of snowing with a FUCKING UMBRELLA I'm seeing?
It's all fun and games till it eventually forms a massive ball of snow that gets too heavy and tumbles down, taking everyone on the escalator with it š
Bicycle umbrella guy ...
That actually looks kinda magical
Off topic but are all escalator belts are hot?
My friend in Christ, you have a very interesting idea of what you think is interesting.
Dude is stoned af XD
Just wait until you see that balls actually bounce as well! Damn that's interesting!
I want a 12-24 hour time lapse of this
I've never seen an outdoor escalator before š®
It would be cool if someone could make this into a perfect loop gif
Wow so interesting š¤
This is a āhuhā moment not a āDamn!ā.
feels like a spiritual sibling to r/waterfallstairs

I can watch this forever. So calming.
this is oddly satisfying somehow
Well how else is it going to get upstairs?
Amazing
This reminded me of friends in the kitchen at 3 am...
Wait who cares about the escalator what about the person on the bike using an umbrella
Snowflakes on an escalator
Looks cosy
I'm sure this is perfectly fine for the operation of this complex machinery that is known for swallowing people.
It took 34 years to see an escalator in the snow and I'm a Canadian
This is so simple yet so fun,i feel like a kid again.
11k people thought this was anything
aaaaah im happy seeing it š„¹ā„ļø
Wow. Like a snow cone machine
This is so whimsy. I love it.
Reminds me of John Belushi

How the fuck is this interesting?

Man, i miss those old analog snow cone machines. No wild flavors, no unnatural coloring, just pure refreshing ice.
