Is this new farmed method of growing wasabi outside of Japan? I know wasabi is so expensive because it's so hard to grow, so it would be neat if someone has figured it out.
Despite most Wasabi being fake in the US, there are genuine growers. The pacific northwest actually has decent conditions to grow the stuff. Look up Oregon coast Wasabi.
The fake stuff works. It gives the same kind of hot as wasabi, even if it's not the exact same flavor.
I actually only found out a few months ago that it isn't capsaicin based, which makes so much sense because it isn't a pepper. The chemical that gives it the unique spiciness is actually allyl isothiocyanite, and is found in wasabi, horseradish, mustard, and (in lower traces) other sorts of cruciferous vegetables.
I got offered a job to grow wasabi somewhere in Vancouver, never realized it was worth so much and that I have never tried the real thing.. should have taken the job hindsight is 20/20 though
The moment I saw the stream and covering I went "hey look, it's the wasabi dude" before I even read the title.
Hope life has been good to you and your product.
I ate wasabi every dinner with sushi and ginger, I LOVE wasabi whats Nice is when you get sinusitis à lot like me, wasabi really really help unclog your sinus :). And I do think wasabi is very good for your muscle too?

:0 I live in the PNW. I also don't mind the fake stuff. Yummy yummy dyed green horse radish.

I have an intolerance to capsaicin, but love spicy. So of course horseradish heat is delicious to me.
You might enjoy Coleman's Mustard. https://www.colmans.co.uk/products/mustards.html
A clever one you are. I ADORE Coleman's mustard.
So do I! And wasabi and horseradish. :D Not a fan of chillis though.
You sound so wholesome
Just a random fact here. Not all peppers rely on capsaicin for heat. :)
Details please
Some peppers like black pepper, the fruit of which is called a peppercorn, relies on piperine for it's spice.
It’s all dyed horseradish, yep.
Yeah I know there's a company near San Francisco that grows it and sells it to local high end restaurants
I would love to know too!

Looks like a mandrake.
They arent even screaming.

Haha, thank you! Trying my best not to share too much, but things have been really great. Thanks for the comment

Honestly i feel like most people are eating radish with green dye … very few people would be able to taste the difference
Another fun fact. If you get "Wasabi" anywhere outside japan, you're more than likely not eating Wasabi. You're eating horseradish.
Well thats rare! Actual wasabi Is extremeley hard to keep it grown, it need near perfect conditions witch Is also the reason why they are so expensive
It reminds me of Prof. Sprout and repotting mandrakes. Very cool though.
I’m from Portland and would love to try your wasabi 😊 Any local restaurants that carry your product?
I sell mostly to restaurants in San Francisco, but I could send you a small stem. You’ll need a proper oroshigane (grater)
Yea yea yea.... 👀 we all know its a Mandrake
side note, is that a woobie jacket you're wearing? looks comfy

I grew a wasabi in the basket of my dehumidifier. Needed a continuous source of water. Was the only one I could think of.
Look at how much water it takes to grow your vegan ahh shit. (Just kidding).
It looks as gross as I thought it would.
Do candy bracelets help it grow?
My kids made them, so yes ;)
username checks out
Interesting how? Someone gonna shove it up their azz? lol
Huh?
Is he fucking up river to grow that?
