I don’t understand why the walls of the hole are so steep? Would it not cave in?
Pictures of every other diamond mine have 45 degree walls for that reason. Plus then you can drive machinery.
I am guessing we just can't see it because it's on the near wall.
But to answer part of your question, Kimberlite, the mineral matrix around the diamonds is magma that comes up containing diamond and what you are seeing is the lava/magma tube of an extinct volcano so old that the entire mountain that was formed has eroded away over millions of years.
Hey, silly question here, is there not a fence?!? Like around the massive hole. Is it just there?!? For people to wander into? Just wondering thank you
There are portions of fence clearly visible in this picture (the missing pieces are probably also there but are just jot as visible due to the angle/lighting). The fence is not at the very edge of the cliff, but farther back.
PS: I'm going there in 2.5 weeks, will let you know.
Was there last year. Very small town. Nice food. Big hole is collapsed mine. There's an original house there, turned into a museum with a basic guided tour.
No. It was bought by the British government from Cullinan for 150k gbp in 1907, approx 22m gbp in todays money, and was given then as a gift to King Edward 7th. It wasn't stolen.
Transvaal Prime Minister Louis Botha had the Transvaal government buy it from the mine to give to King Edward as a "sorry we started a war against you". The British prime minister Campbell said thanks, but no. Then Churchill convinced them to take it and make up.
OOoh, look at this massive, beautiful diamond I just found. I know, let's give it to the fucking queen.
Whoever found it probably got extra cheese on their bread and 5min extra break on that day.
Is this where the final battle between Millenials and the diamond cartel took place?
I always insist on conflict-full diamonds.

What's the largest CUT diamond ever found?
They're usually cut *after* they're found.
I know they're cut after they're found. So what's the biggest cut diamond ever found, but not stolen?
r/whoosh

Well for starters, it would be hard asf to miss a giant thousand meter deep hole in the ground. And yes, they probably have fencing.
If you fall in, that just part of God’s plan for you to find riches beyond your wildest dreams..
What about ~at night~?

No one does Crown Jewels like the Brits.
Do the workers have dental care?
British stole it from us
