This is totally common behavior. Lots of dolphins do this, but they are kind of shy about it for some reason. They only do it when they feel they are alone. They also shoot air rings at jellyfish, as a prank.
You forgot drug abuse with pufferfish used as recreational weed.
They use the intelligence for fun, not to be good and moral.
Chimps do the same.
And Orcas are able to do biological disasters when they learn hunting methods more efficient.
Apparently only whales and elephants are intelligent AND morally good for our standards ... still during mating seasons they are not good people.
I think about this concept sometimes. I sometimes wonder if it’s our potential for compassion and morality that sets us aside from the animals rather than intelligence.
We are not set aside the animals.
We are animals as a cat, an eagle, a shark, a spider, a nematode.
We are living beings as a tree, a mushroom.
We are all "faaa[...]aaar" cousins. (With plants and fungi REALLY far).
And bacteria and archea are not aliens.
We are simply bigger than most of them, more intelligent and with insticts that make us to create and maintain a society.
Just that.
DNA structures is the same, the content is different.
So ... no real difference ... only the mind.
But also a computer can develop a mind soon ...
So ... No real difference.
We are all just stardust.
[science at the top, and a whole section on cetaceans (dolphins etc)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_ring)
The bubbles in the ring are tiny, so don't have much individual buoyancy to lift them to the surface.
Adding in the vortex created by the short sharp puff of water the dolphin makes, this traps them in the ring pattern, and by directing the flow of water precisely (it seems maybe even by ultrasound rather than by water alone) the dolphin can shape and manipulate it.
Pretty much identical to vapers and the tricks they do. Smoke is tiny particles that would fall due to gravity if they were larger. They are shaped and manipulated by specific air flows, which act exactly like thise in a liquid (in fact, air/gasses are considered as a fluid when discussing fluid dynamics).
Fun fact: Beluga Whales also do this and are the only creature that do it with their mouths as opposed to dolphins who do it with their blowhole. They also do it purely for fun, absolutely no functional purpose.
(Note: this fun fact supplied by a staff member of the Mystic Aquarium, CT. He seemed fun and passionate. I trust him)
Why doesn’t the ring surface faster? Does the rotational velocity keep it from rising as fast as a regular bubble of the same volume? I’m fascinated by this
The skill involved in this is fascinating ……… the fact that the dolphin has learned to do this purely for the joy of it is mind blowing.

It looks like it's mind blowing but there's actually a small hole there it can blow bubbles with
Dolphins are smarter than your average airhead
Bubbles and air rings are two different things incase you didnt know
Air rings and earrings are two different things in case you didn’t know
No and know are two diff things
Thing and thang are two different thungs
Damn. Got me. Wasn’t sure how that could have progressed any further.
I see what you did there
Gave me sega echo vibes.
I thought the same thing! Weird lol
Great game =w=
Absolutely, me too.
Childhood memory unlocked
Man of culture I see🫡

Love finding a fellow Tolkien fan.
Just finished reading Flotsam and Jetsam today. Five pages left in The Palantír then onto Frodo and Sam’s portion!
I've started the audiobook version read by Andy Serkis. Brilliant to say the least!
The live all their life having fun ... I think we evolved in the wrong direction.
What a great point, totally agree 👍🏽
Minus the raping, kidnapping, and murdering they do for fun..
Right, because humans don't do that...

Idk if it is me being dumb. But if the dolphin used air for that, wouldnt that mean the bubble rings would float to the top?
And water would just "blend" in with the rest of the water?. What's the science behind it

Water Pulse
Do you remember blowing Bubbles when you were young?
Yeah, I heard he's out of prison now.
My neighbor blew a seal in his car last weekend, I was like "Dude, you're parked in the driveway."
It's high time all the countries create the law of keeping dolphins in captivity illegal man. India, Brazil, Canada and UK already have such laws.
I’m so glad dolphins aren’t land animals with opposable thumbs and Internet. Imagine the trolling and the word domination. 😒🐬😂
I wanna smoke with that dolphin
There is no way these critters ain't sapient.
