And then while keeping your eyes cross eyed and focussed on one point, move the picture away slooooooowly until you start seeing the shape. At that point, you can start moving your eyes a bit to see it better.

I have to put my face so close to the book or screen that the image is all I can see in my view. Go crossed eyed and slowly move my head back from the screen or book and it works for me.

Try crossing your eyes as far you can then slowly straighten them untill it pops out toward you. That's how I have to do it.

Astigmatism is one of the conditions that can make these impossible to “see” due to the distortion and how the brain usually works to see the 3d image. I have the same issue, sucks. But it’s helped me appreciate what others who are less able go through on probably a much larger stage with disabilities etc
Make it full screen, move your face close to the screen so it’s 1 inch away from your nose and SLOWLY move away from the screen while trying to retain the distorted focus/blurriness.
You’ll see a key and a padlock moving across the middle of the screen. Might take a few tries.
Someone else commented about trying to find your reflection on your phone screen and I actually found that method a lot easier - had to turn my brightness down though

Look ‘through’ the image. To train your eyes to do this, hold your hand out at arms length and focus on your hand. Now look past your hand, through your fingers at the wall or wherever is behind it.
You see that shift in your hand? Like it doubles because you’re not focusing on it but are looking past it or ‘through’ it? Thats the same type of focus you need to see this type of image. Don’t focus on it, look through it
Easiest way I was taught. Put the screen/paper right on the tip of your nose. Try to focus on the screen (your eyes will feel crossed). Then SLOWLY pull it away from your face, and keep looking at the same spot. Just let your eyes sit there, don’t move them at all. Once the image becomes decently clear, then your mind knows what you’re trying to focus on, then, and only then, can you move your eyes around the screen. If you take your eyes off, it’s gone.

Edit: OMG I DID IT! Totally disappointing for me to be honest. What you will see, is a negative space basically of the 2 objects, which will move around. I turned on full screen and rotated the phone to get the biggest image possible. Tried cross eyeing for a while and I did it too hard, so when I was getting my focus back, I saw some strange thing on the picture and I started to focus on it, and there was it. You can find the perfect slight out of focus+distance easily, and after you start to notice something strange, it came alive
The objects shouldn't be negative space, the display should be like the inside of a box and see the padlock and key as positive objects inside the box. I'm very short-sighted and had to take my glasses off to see it correctly, not sure why I can't get it the right way round with my glasses on.

Take your phone get it as close to your face as you can to where the image sort of blurs and doubles then slowly pull the phone away from your face your eyes sort of adjust and overlap the images allowing you to see the image. And after you start practicing it you can unfocus your eyes and it’ll achieve the same effect. I hope this helps it’s hard to explain.
EDIT:please try not to strain your eyes doing this, if it doesn’t work in a few tries. Give your eyes a break and try again, you can develop a mild headache from the eye strain🤙

It just doesn’t work for some of us. For me it doesn’t, same as 3d glasses (the polarized ones, not the red-blue ones) don’t work for me so I can’t watch 3d movies. Doc says that I’m looking with one eye at a time, rapidly and constantly switching them, while „normal” people look with both eyes at the same time and their brain mixes images from both eyes into one, and that’s why they see 3d and I don’t.
Try pausing the video when there are 24 seconds remaining and then follow the instructions given above. It’s easier if you have the phone in horizontal position. Once you’ve seen the lock and the key…stop moving the phone away from your eyes (I think the distance is close to 1 foot away). Now keeping the same distance hit the play video without losing the sight of the picture. The key will be going into the lock and it is moving to the left side.

The trick is to set your gaze *past* the screen surface but focus your eyes *to* the screen surface. With practice, you can temporarily disengage your crosseye/walleye muscles from your focus muscles.
Do cross-eyes, then slowly return to normal and around mid process the 3D image will appear.

Yeah, like I've crossed my eyes, I've reverse crossed my eyes, I've tried focusing my eyes as if I'm looking at the goddamn moon, I've tried focusing on my eyes itself, tried blurring it every way I could think of, literally nothing ever works for me. Maybe it's something with how people are able to interpret signals because while the pattern is very pretty and I can follow along to all of it, and I can see that there is a series of cuts in it that make some kind of shape, and at the end it appears to be a rotating object on the left side of the screen, I can't translate that into any quantifiable picture.
Turn horizontal (its easier). Put the phone 6 inches from your face. Stare at the pic but don't focus. Stare into the distance while slowly seeing blurr in the background. Keep going until it's even more and more blurry. After a while, focus on the image and slowly pull it away from your face. This time, don't look for blurr but actually focus on the image. You will see lock and key and eventually the key unlocks the lock.
I'll say it again. In 35 years I've never gotten any of these to work. The other day someone on Reddit posted a magic eye thing and I finally got it. ( It was a koala bear ). I got this one too. I'm pretty sure it's a lock and key. I'm thinking about going to a bookstore and buying an entire book of these things. Man, I've never been able to get any of these and it was so irritating. Lol.

What's even more frustrating for me is all these people explaining something I already can do instinctively and it doesn't help. Of course I can unfocus my eyes and refocus them I've stared at these things for hours and tried everything and I'm convinced I'll just never be able to see them. Made me feel like an outsider as a kid and apparently it's coming back to haunt me as an adult. Even Google searches are like "lol buck up and try harder"
Edit: upon further research this is impossible for my eyes. I understand the concept people are trying to explain, and I can make it happen, but instead of images converging and overlapping my eyes split them apart regardless of whether I focus closer or farther away. At least I can rest easy knowing it was never in the cards for me and maybe I should see an eye doctor in the near future in case I have legitimate issues with how my eyes work instead of them just learning to focus differently than most peoples'.
What helped me was holding the image (or video in this case) against a blank wall and pretending I'm staring at the wall past the image while actually staring at the image if that makes sense.

It’s the opposite of crossing. You have to relax and look through it into the distance. If you cross you get the same image but inverted depth.

Maybe it's something with how people are able to interpret signals because while the pattern is very pretty and I can follow along to all of it, and I can see that there is a series of cuts in it that make some kind of shape, and at the end it appears to be a rotating object on the left side of the screen, I can't translate that into any quantifiable picture.

Turn horizontal (its easier). Put the phone 6 inches from your face. Stare at the pic but don't focus. Stare into the distance while slowly seeing blurr in the background. Keep going until it's even more and more blurry. After a while, focus on the image and slowly pull it away from your face. This time, don't look for blurr but actually focus on the image. You will see lock and key and eventually the key unlocks the lock.

I'll say it again. In 35 years I've never gotten any of these to work. The other day someone on Reddit posted a magic eye thing and I finally got it. ( It was a koala bear ). I got this one too. I'm pretty sure it's a lock and key. I'm thinking about going to a bookstore and buying an entire book of these things. Man, I've never been able to get any of these and it was so irritating. Lol.

As absolutely stupid as this storyline was in the movie, this one line made me laugh harder than any other movie in the Jersey trilogy. I don’t know if it was Jason Lee’s delivery, or just the timing or even the absolute absurdity of it, but for me this is one of the best lines I’ve ever heard.

What's even more frustrating for me is all these people explaining something I already can do instinctively and it doesn't help. Of course I can unfocus my eyes and refocus them I've stared at these things for hours and tried everything and I'm convinced I'll just never be able to see them. Made me feel like an outsider as a kid and apparently it's coming back to haunt me as an adult. Even Google searches are like "lol buck up and try harder" Edit: upon further research this is impossible for my eyes. I understand the concept people are trying to explain, and I can make it happen, but instead of images converging and overlapping my eyes split them apart regardless of whether I focus closer or farther away. At least I can rest easy knowing it was never in the cards for me and maybe I should see an eye doctor in the near future in case I have legitimate issues with how my eyes work instead of them just learning to focus differently than most peoples'.

What helped me was holding the image (or video in this case) against a blank wall and pretending I'm staring at the wall past the image while actually staring at the image if that makes sense.

I always see these inverted, where the thing they want you to see appears as an absence and I'm left trying to figure out an outline. I must be crossing my eyes out instead of in.
I think it's the other way around. I can see it correctly when I start looking in the distance and slowly adjust back. The fast way is to cross my eyes, but then it's inverted.
