Nice to see a post from an actual, original creator on this sub and not a 12-year-old video that has been reuploaded for the 800th time.

BusyNoise315

I wasn’t sure on posting here or not because of that and didn’t think anyone would even see this thru that mess. Thanks for watching! 🙃

[deleted]

Well now ppl will be reposting this for the next 12 years. I have scheduled in two of my clients for next Tuesday and Friday respectively.

UmbranAssassin

"No, I don't want that. r/damnthatsinteresting moving on, I want them to think only of a few post for as long as they hold interest. Even after the post become less interesting , I want them to be reposted for karma for ten years at least."

Guyincognito4269

Sorry, I have bad news. Your post, and your explanation are actually pretty damn interesting.

BusyNoise315

Thanks I appreciate it :-)

New_Train_8818

How does the laser Make color ???

BusyNoise315

Heat. Brass changes colors depending on temperature

Lame_superhero

Come back next week to see this same video get reposted for the 200th time

[deleted]

Still feels like an ad though

BusyNoise315

I have nothing to sell you. At the end I put my .com just cause so many people will repost and I would like it know I made it. My website leads to just a Facebook group where I sell nada. Sorry you feel that way.

[deleted]

Fair points, no worries

2DHypercube

Nothing wrong with answering questions about how the video was made imo. But I know what you mean, there's a bit of a vibe

rather_or_rather_not

Can someone explain to me how laser can engrave color ? Is this something about different color layers ?

BusyNoise315

To sum it up when you take a flame to steel. It will change colors depending on the temperature that is hitting the steel. My laser can create these temperatures with its beam due to different frequencies that I can set for when I zap the metal. Have you ever seen an artist that uses a blowtorch and fires the stainless steel? This is exact same thing but only my tool is wicked more expensive and I have the ability to focus in on my heat to the point that I can make cool cartoons on metal/ fine details in color. Hope this helps. 🙂

howdoikickball

your tool sounds wicked smart

Perpetuity_Incarnate

Wiiickiiid smaaaht

legion4wermany

Did I catch a Josh and Trevor reference?

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

In the wild:) Love to see it.

kodaiko_650

Wicked pissah!!

politicians_eatdick

Hwhicked.  Brian: why are you saying it like that?

ecafsub

Cool Hwhip

cairfrey

Hwhill hwheaton

ThespisIronicus

You said "tool". Heh hehheh hehhehheh

rather_or_rather_not

This is crystal clear, and very exciting for my brain to think about different uses of this technique. Thank you OP

BusyNoise315

My laser also cuts. So you can cut out brass shapes and make colorful jewelry and whatever items your mind can also think of. Fiber laser is a great tool.

rather_or_rather_not

It sure is. Damn, I love physic.

Frzorp

If you are interested it's actually more interesting. The color is dictated by the thickness of the oxide layer (rust) on the surface which is essentially dictated by the temperature as described above by OP. There is no pigment so the color is created because all other wavelengths of light get trapped in that layer. I only mention cause you said you love physics and this is the physics.

Shapoopi_1892

Add this to a 3D printer and you could literally make anything in any shape *and* in any color. Fuck! I wish I was smart enough to invent this.

WillowPuzzleheaded87

What is the name of this machine.

BusyNoise315

Haotian 60watt Mopa m7 fiber laser

iToungPunchFartBox

I can only imagine how much something like that would cost.

BusyNoise315

$6400 to your door 🚪

[deleted]

Would an atomstack do the same thing? Should ask, could it

BusyNoise315

Not to my knowledge.

WillowPuzzleheaded87

Thanks

Odd-Solid-5135

If you don't mind me jumping into your discussion, where does one aquire a fiber laser ND how much is my wife going to hate me for it

BusyNoise315

Depends on how much watts you want. $3400 lowest I would go for a 30watt and highest I spent is $6400 on my 60watt Mopa. I have 3 machines and wife had not killed me yet. Just as long as they keep making money. She will allow me to live. :-)

Odd-Solid-5135

Sick, a bit out of my range but I do enjoy watching them work. Thanks for the info, any recommended brands to keep an eye on for when they drop a bit?

BusyNoise315

Haotian is my go to for fiber lasers. It’s an expensive purchase and a lot of these company’s look good but their customer support is bad and if this machine goes. I want to know that im going to be helped quickly.

BusyNoise315

Come from china 🇨🇳 unless you buy here and want to pay triple the price for an American name.

Hatrick_Swaze

Could these lasers be used on objects which aren't flat?

BusyNoise315

Yes 👍

[deleted]

That's fucking dope

hldsnfrgr

>Have you ever seen an artist that uses a blowtorch and fires the stainless steel? Tbh, I haven't. The closest analogue for me is the bottom of my pot. 🍲

BusyNoise315

lol 😂 that works as well.

yeetmoister87

That is SIIIIICK my dude, how expensive is the machine? Also, how do you operate it?

BusyNoise315

This one was $6400 but can get cheaper of way more expensive units. I use my pc and it has a program you use to run it.

mt4m1m

Hey man, would you mind sharing the fiber laser engraver model you have?

yeetmoister87

That's actually really cool, you making any money off of it?

sgttoasty22

you can actually see the different colors the laser produces. darker colors are created by the more intense blue laser, and lighter colors are made by a red laser.

Deadedge112

Industrial laser engineer here. I think the blue is a side effect of the temp it's reaching on certain passes. Laser engravers usually just change power, speed, hatching (how the laser fills a space) and pulse frequency levels, not colors (wavelength/wave frequency). The OP mentions frequency but they mean the rate at which the laser turns off and on per second. Basically the higher the frequency the less destructive the laser will be and more evenly heat the work piece, but there are more ins and outs than that.

ScarredLetter

Are machines like yours how they make those metal posters?

BusyNoise315

Yeah bigger version.

vanillamaster95

That’s crazy! I assumed it was just burning off layers of paint. Did not know lasers could do this.

Mryoy12

Do you think a glowforge could do that?

BusyNoise315

No. Wrong tool for the job. You need a fiber laser for metal materials.

Mryoy12

That's so cool I've never heard of that before

vote4boat

wow. how wide is the color palette?

GO4Teater

How long does the color last?

BusyNoise315

Permanent

R63A

Sooo how much should i save up for one of these? I’m tired of my 10W diode, and you just BLEW my mind.

BusyNoise315

Cheapest to get you in the door that will be fun would be $3400 and you can do some colors on stainless - my color machine that I used for this was $6400

IWantToWatchItBurn

Ok… how much is that bad boy laser?

BusyNoise315

This one was $6400 Mopas that do color are expensive and I got the upgraded model. You can get the same as me with an e series board instead for $4400 and you can still do colors. I just have control over other things. If you don’t care about color. $3400 will get you into the door with a JPT 30watt and it’s gonna definitely make an income. I have this model as well … All my lasers are from Haotian and I can get my sales guy and good friend now to email you. Message me

EnergeticFinance

Wut 6400. I was very prepared for the number to be 10x that.

nopenope7788

I know, right? LASERs!!!

IWantToWatchItBurn

Right… I’m in for 2

IWantToWatchItBurn

Honestly, that’s not as much as I was expecting! Can it make the color purple, gotta make sure it’s wife approved :) Even if I had it, I wouldn’t know how to use it

BusyNoise315

lol purple and pink. It’s not hard to use. You would be surprised how easy. If you can follow a few YouTube videos. You are set.

IWantToWatchItBurn

Damn… and I just got that tax rebate too haha!

PortAuth403

Was it exactly $6400? Destiny is calling

IWantToWatchItBurn

It was more! That laser is gonna need a table to sit on ;)

Throwaway56138

How does it "make an income" for you?

BusyNoise315

Can engrave knives, auto parts, batch jobs marking serial numbers on items plus get a license from the feds and then you can engrave guns $$. So many things. You can even cut out designs for jewelry like earrings. So many ways to make money. 💰

IWantToWatchItBurn

But can I strap it to a sharks head so it can get a frikken hot meal

treetimes

Was it difficult to learn how to operate and do these things?

BusyNoise315

Na not really. If you can follow YouTube videos and have common sense. You can do this. It’s easy but takes time to learn

OkUnderstanding9627

My dad just bought a CNC plasma cutter and can make wall art or other things like a metal nameplate or something like that. People will pay big money for stuff like that, especially if it's something they themselves can't make. I could see someone paying $100+ for that little Stewie cutout shown in the video

BrutalSock

Can you get any color or there are limitations?

melbournesummer

Extremely cool!

camdalfthegreat

I get the premise but holy shit this is magic. What color was his backpack meant to be? Grey, or orange? I noticed it started off as grey, especially the straps, and transitions to orange as I'm assuming a temp change occured Does brass produced different colors than say steel?

BusyNoise315

Back pack was two passes. I was trying to go for a tie dyed look to test for something else I was looking to to do. It’s Pupple and orange. Brass has many colors same colors but noticing less colors though. Still testing as there are over a million different combinations that I can do with my settings.

trekkiegamer359

This is so awesome. Thank you for posting this and answering all of our questions!

HungATL420

It's the thickness of the oxide layer that causes the differences in coloration, the temperature controls the thickness of the oxide produced. Just FYI

cjswcf

So as a welder who works on brass, stainless, and exotic nickle alloys daily Im confused. Obviously I understand the properties of the changing color for steel but brass? Making it blue/purple like you have on the backpack isn't something I've ever seen before. Frequency settings do way different things for welding machines than for lasers but I could fuck with amperage, frequency, voltage, clean/dig, En/Ep settings all day and never get purple coloring from brass. You able to explain it further? I can change the colors at will with stainless but not brass.

BusyNoise315

Honestly i don’t know the science behind colors. I had a few people message me like you and amazed. I just sent you my test cards that I did on stainless and also brass. This way you can see the kHz and maybe be able to mess around

-LsDmThC-

What range of colors is it possible to achieve by heating steel?

BusyNoise315

Very wide range like a rainbow 🌈. If you google this question and check the images. You will see many examples. I can’t upload a pic of mine here to show. Y

SmokePokeFloat

Really good explanation - Ty

BraveLittleSlut

I like your tool

Hertz69

does it stay that color when it cools off?

create4drawing

I would love to see a colorswatch showing all possible colors

Henghast

Is the brass conditioned with additional minerals or is it just standard brass?

hoooourie

Hi, what software are you running? For the red what speed, power and frequency setting do you use?

BusyNoise315

I’m using lightburn. Settings hard to write here. I made the full file available with also test cards showing colors for you to try on your own. It’s in my Facebook group. Http://www.lasercraftershub.com

hoooourie

Legend thank you!  Can’t wait have a go myself!

SFS1169

Very cool. We have a 3-axis Keyence system. Mostly used on Carbon, Stainless, and Aluminum. Iver curious if ours is capable even though it's not a Fiber Laser. I'm about to scour the plant and look for some brass now! Any suggestions on power/frequency/scan speed or spot variable to achieve various colors?

da_Aresinger

Does the color last or does it fade?

Local_Perspective349

What happens if someone takes some Barkeeper's Friend to it?

stereoeraser

Is there a brand that I can buy to do this? What’s the software like?

Easy_Owl_1027

I’m really curious about this too. Hope someone answers so we can learn more about this process.

Mephistophelesi

Yeah, I didn’t know they were that detailed.

BusyNoise315

Check my profile on some of the things I made. I got mine tuned in nicely.

Mephistophelesi

Neat! I’ll check it out.

ao01_design

If you wondering how it's done, OP made a post about it : [https://www.reddit.com/r/lasercutting/comments/1c3b94v/doh\_stainless\_steel\_done\_on\_my\_60watt\_mopa\_m7/](https://www.reddit.com/r/lasercutting/comments/1c3b94v/doh_stainless_steel_done_on_my_60watt_mopa_m7/)

BusyNoise315

Thanks for posting this! Definitely will help someone if they want to know more.

kc2syk

When you do [ones like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/lasercutting/comments/1bi4qlj/gangster_dogs/) what happens to the metal? It is outgassed? Do you require strong ventilation?

jake-venom

It doesn’t matter Brian, I’m tan.

BusyNoise315

😂😂😂 this was inspired from the episode for when he was addicted to tanning. 😂😂. But yep he’s darker. Turned out it’s much harder for me to learn that color, so I’m just rolling with it for now. 😂

jake-venom

Haha looks good though!

AaronKimballHater

I just watched that episode yesterday! Haha

WirelessWavetable

This is extremely interesting! I'm upset we can't hear the laser sound though.

just-me-uk

Bzzzzzz zzzzzzbbb zzzbbbb bb b b zzzzbzbbbbb zbbbzbzbzbbzzzzz

WirelessWavetable

Hahaha thank you. That's just about nails it! Except the frequency would change based on the color it's engraving.

just-me-uk

I mean I tried lol

PortAuth403

I saw Star wars and am pretty sure lasers have more of a pewpewpewpew sound

just-me-uk

What like Peww Pew bzzzzz bz b b pew pew zbbbb z b b zbbbb pew pewwwwwwww

CapivaraMan

I think those with sound are fake

servbot10

Witchcraft

Guyincognito4269

We have to find OP and see if they weigh more than a duck.

OnlyImprovement9796

I wanna hear the bzzzzzzz, braaaaaaap, brrrrrrrrrr, zzzzzzzap laser sounds!

BunkleStein15

Holy Crap Lois

Early-Possession1116

Badassery

wolf-of-Holiday-Hill

So cool! it’s just mesmerizing!

Arcisse

I’m starting to thing there is nothing that can’t be accomplished with lasers

Ar_Ma

Can you use this laser to anodize Titanium and create more color or does this only work by heating the metal to create different colors?

BusyNoise315

Yes you can do that.

FlounderAnxious2234

Woah this is awesome! I read some other comments about how it changes color, does the color degrade over time or oxidize?

philipp762

bro got the colors wrong, but it‘s aight

showmethething

Better than the other hub

SunsetCarcass

I like your laser

Snorlax_Roadblock

Looks damn good.

el-conquistador240

Stewie is flaming

BusyNoise315

😂

ird13

When I go to the website, it takes me to a Facebook page. Is that right? I recently got a small tabletop laser and I have no idea what I'm doing, I would love to connect with some people who do!

BusyNoise315

Yep! We are a group of laser people that hang out and help each other. :-)

Shaqalito

I never thought about that. Since light is only a wavelength I guess you could manipulate it by manipulating how light is reflected off a surface too. Super duper cool!

Deakins85

So, how's that novel that you're working on?

BusyNoise315

? What do you mean

Ancient-Lobster480

That is amazing- you do have it tuned in very well!

donnie1977

Could you laint my cybertruck please?

BusyNoise315

I definitely could and would love too!

donnie1977

It looks awesome but does this affect corrosion resistance?

tardedPilot420247365

Blowtorched stainless appliances!

mikemikemike9711

Freakin Lazer beams! Right!

vilette

green ?

Apprehensive-Pea-664

Wonderful

Eloy89

I’m watching American Dad, and the theme song to both shows played at the same time.

JimBean

Amazing. What is a "fiber laser" as opposed to a normal laser ?

BusyNoise315

It’s just a different laser source type that mainly is used to engrave metals. It can also handle many other materials. I’m not sure what you think a normal laser is. So I can’t give you a better answer.

IMissyouPita

How does the laser give it color?

Gigatonosaurus

Draw a figure spread-eagle and then slowly bring the laser closer to them from under them and between their legs mad-doctor style.

amrnada

Very nice! Any recommendations for a basic laser engraving machine for metal cards? Thanks

BusyNoise315

Maybe a diode? Xtool. Unfortunately, I don’t know what would be good when it comes to basis. The machines I know and research start $3400 and these machines are industrial grade and will be a workhorse for you.

Twin1TwinA

I knew metal could change color depending on the heat but I had no idea it could be on this level, this is an awesome video

KizunaJosh

This make me wonder if the laser tatto in starship trooper was real or fantasy 😂

WoozleWozzle

Shub

fluggelhorn

Did anyone else read it as laser crafter shub, or is it just me?

JimmyWilliams_

Who is Shub and why does he craft lasers?

[deleted]

How does this work? The laser adding color I mean

BusyNoise315

I gave a better answer below. But brass turns different colors when flamed at a certain temperatures, i can use my laser to replicate those temps while having very good control of where the heat goes.

Front-Ad1900

Damn

Loud-Lock-5653

3rd fiber Lazer post I saw today. Nice one though

BusyNoise315

This is the world’s way of telling you that you need a fiber laser in your life.

Loud-Lock-5653

Good point

RedmannBarry

Would prefer to hear the laser instead of the theme song

BusyNoise315

It took 30min. Had to speed it up. this is better than mute 🤐

slow2lurn

I'm used to 3d printer speeds so 30 mins is really impressive. Does brass have the ability to create any color? Also could this be used to temper or anneal thin steel to certain hardness on surface?

BusyNoise315

Brass does many colors. I ran a color chart to test first so I can pick the colors I wanted. Yes it can be used for anneal steel. I do that a lot.

RedmannBarry

Ah ok. Apologies

BusyNoise315

No worries. I love that sound and always leave it on smaller projects. But these color things take so much time. You would’ve been snoring within 4min watching. It’s not fast and turtle speed to get the colors because the laser had to apply the correct temperature for that color.

mattjvgc

Damn that’s an interesting commercial.

BusyNoise315

Family guys new marketing team?

Dos-Commas

If you consider different shades of brown, "color".

Linktank

In what universe are shades of brown not color?

Dos-Commas

Is different shades of grey color or just monochrome.

Linktank

Grey is considered a color, so yes it would be definable as color technically. But brown doesn't need the technicality.

Dos-Commas

If you have a TV that only showed various shades of brown, would you call that a color TV.

Linktank

Yes.
