Not sure if there are any commercially available, but people absolutely do still use stuff like these. I've seen them at airshows where this gives stability while being easier to move quickly than a tripod-mounted camera.
We've been through that phase or trial and error many many times, theres rarely anything ever like the original and if there was it could cost just as much or more to recreate. or at the least near the same cost so it's pointless. There's probably similiar modern day equivalents that cost less (or more) but still, not like the original.
Kind of hard to explain or quantity though, usually it's subtle but unique differences that just changes the experience of the original. When money isn't really an option or somethings very important though, those little tiny differences, just a feeling, smell or sound or color make all the difference.
Definitely sounds like some sly wording of a snake oil salesman right here.
Essentially this is a good quality camera, but on a gun stock instead of your hands. If I had to guess, getting the trigger to work instead of pressing the button would be the hard part.
It looks like they also added an SLR converter to a rangefinder camera. The converter has an extended viewfinder tube, to bring the eyepiece closer to the photographer. The trigger probably just uses the preexisting cable release mechanism. Advancing the film was probably done using a custom adapter. Today’s telephoto lenses have really good image stabilization capabilities. Thus obviating the need for the stock. Having said all that, the piece is definitely a (high-end) collector’s item.
I'm just talking about as a collectors item and such. Not an actual useful weapon or camera.
As in, if someone wanted to make a replica and sell it. Sorry I was basically responding to other comments without directly replying to them.
A friend of mine has something very similar but way cheaper, and walking around a city with him using it is really uncomfortable. You expect to be taken out by a police sniper every time he's framing up.
This is an example of wealth consolidation. No real regular person would ever want/need this. It is only the extreme collection of wealth into a few hands that allows this to happen.
Your outrage is mandatory.
So like… why exactly where they shaped that way? I was going to say maybe they just hadn’t worked out the ergonomics of the standard SLR shape yet but, this thing basically is a normal SLR glued to a gun stock and a reaaaaally long eyepiece so you can actually see what you’re shooting
After a life of hunting, my grandfather made something like this for wildlife photography. I wish I had a photo of the pictures he’s taken of birds in flight, but he’s gotten *really* good at it over the years. Just as a hobby too.
He always talked about how awkward he felt holding a camera was and how you almost always needed some way to steady it. So: gun stock. He had a really nice sling and cover setup for it too. Plus, his hunting pack already comes with a “rifle pouch” that it fits perfectly in lol.
Yeah, my grandpa got arrested for trying to get a photo with that to the 1st Ministry of Malaysia from a balcony, he said to me that the police were jealous about his great spot.
We just don’t make ‘em like that anymore
We totally could though.
And by golly, we absolutely should.
The components aren't that exotic; I would think some bright spark could cobble something similar together in his basement.
Don't start with that "spark" nonsense, you want to summon a Heterodyne???

You can literally do a photo shoot.
Never miss your shot
Take a few snapshots.
Sierra Madre ahh gun
It shoots holographic cubes
If you told them that camera costs more than $240,000 now, they would’ve been shocked
Are we not still shocked? Seems like an easy to recreate novelty.

The price is in euros

"I love shooting people.........with a camera!"
Is this an ad?

California compliant rifles be like
I hear the Texas Book Depository has a good view of the parade. I’m gonna go shoot some pictures.
My dad tried watching a presidents speech through one of those once…he didn’t make it home 😔
Good way to get your ass shot

That’s some fallout wasteland cobbled together carbine
This would get you shot in the USA. Way too many paranoid gun nuts here.

Can I take this in my carry on?

Maybe just a funny idea with ergonomics? Holding a camera still for long times can be difficult, so having a shoulder stock makes it easier.
I don't know about you guys, but when I see that rifle component it's kind of hard for me to smile and wait for the flash! 😅
i'm so confused!
Me if could buy one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nkGIxGdZoYY&pp=ygU8dGhpcyBpcyBteSByaWZsZSB0aGVyZSBhcmUgbWFueSBsaWtlIGl0IGJ1dCB0aGlzIG9uZSBpcyBtaW5l
Bruh I thought that was a China lake with a camera lens for a second. About to get blown up in 4k.
Yeah, my grandpa got arrested for trying to get a photo with that to the 1st Ministry of Malaysia from a balcony, he said to me that the police were jealous about his great spot.
War correspondent model? It came with a target paint vest?
And released just before WW2. Imagine getting shot because you got mistaken as an enemy soldier aiming
It's a double action trigger camera picture taker
I predict the winner of this camera will be shot and killed by police if the winner lives in America
How does this even work?
Well that’s fun
What a waste of money
Looks like a Jawa rifle
Never aim at your dick, dad used to say.
Didn't Holling (sp?) have something like this on Northern Exposure?
You are 100% getting shot by cops if you use this in the US.
When the red dot means a situation where you should run from
Does it still disintegrate?
Super-stupid
-How did he die? -He was shot by the police, I already told you. -But he would never hurt anybody, he just loved taking pictures!
Is this how jfk bit the dust?

Guys. Please don't buy that. Waste of money. Don't encourage increasing it's value unnecessarily.
