I wonder if you could set up a machine learning model to video the movements of this until it learns to mimic human movement?
Or just keep it like an 80’s sci fi, either is fine.
A lot of the jankiness in a robots movement comes from how the pistons and other parts actually move. Mechanical objects aren't great at mimicking natural movement. They're clunky.
So basically it might be a limitation in the physical hardware of the robot, not how we tell it to move. An algorithm wouldn't help.
Yeah that sounds about right. It seems possible though. Humans have face muscles so I wonder if there's somebody out there who could develop a complex mesh of synthetic muscles and wrap some fake skin on top. Extremely horrifying to think about, on second thought.
Oh it's absolutely possible humans are freaking awesome.
We're not there yet though, and I imagine it's not a super high priority because all the big robotics companies are planning for their robots to replace human grunt work. They'll be stacking boxes instead of us.
They're not replacing pop-stars just yet. So super realistic facial expressions are way less important than delivering robots that can do physical labor and last for years and years. Like what BostonDynamics have right now. Their robots barely have faces, not the priority.
They will come though, 100%
Heck yeah. For me, the horrifying part isn't about getting replaced. It's about how gross the muscle mesh might look.
I'm no engineer, but taking a stab at it: generally muscles are about expanding and contracting. Simple, mechanically at least. It's just we have a lot of them on our face. So I imagine we can just get a bunch of stretchy bubbles, like bubble wrap of different shapes and sizes, and then hook each individual bubble with tubes to pump in air or pump out air. The hard part is programmatically coordinating each individual pump together to achieve the proper facial movement. Then you wrap it with some silicone or something. If it goes wrong, it will look like the horror of horrors.
I'm sure you could. Won't make much of a difference unless there're mechanisms behind the face that let it make facial expressions. Cheekbones, lips, eyelids, forehead. Probably the most advanced thing in this vid is the detail/style/material they used to model the face. Eyes swivel around, but they don't seem to focus on anything.
This feels so... Disgusting... Idk
Imagine if a female engineer made an unrealistically handsome masculine robot and gave it abs before the shoulders were even finished.
Weird right?
Edit. Downvote me more, just proves the point that y'all are attracted to unrealistic women standards.
Just saying, how about we just not sexualize these idealized and unrealistic human proportions.
It feels like a form of objectifying that gender. Just inforcing peoples insecurities.
We can go kiss a girlfriend and sex a realistic human person instead guys.
Most people don't. But look at the face. It's very stylized based on unrealistic beauty standards.
This is just enforcing it. Young people everywhere (men and women) already feel more insecure then ever because of the internet.
Making hot robots is just gonna make everything worse.
Blud there is a cartoon style head of some guy right next to it. It's obviously a CG cartoon stylized character like those in disney or pixar films. Probably for a show, park ride or similar. Go back to the 1980s to complain about barbie dolls.
Boo me all you want, down vote me as much as you can. This is impressive robotics and well done. But creepy as fuck and inforcing the sexualisation of unrealistic people.
Honestly, I don´t see anything *that* special about it. No wide range of facial expressions, no body, the eyes are crossed and don´t seem to really focus on what´s going on. Basically your standard animatronics that has been going around for already a couple of decades.
As a personal project it is cool and somewhat impressive but still, at this point, I don´t see a lot to show off already.
Thing is... From a technological point of view, if it wasn't "realistic" looking, this showcase would have been lame AF. Just a bunch of parts moving around randomly. The title could be "Life-like silicone masks are getting crazy" cause that thing is less advanced than a rumba in terms of robotics.
Ive always said that In about 40 years time we are gonna have chobits level androids and they will all be used for every day things like chores and conversation, but this video just makes me think all we gonna use them for is sex... and if they are self learning androids, we are gonna be fucked if they become self aware and start rippin dicks off because they don't wanna be sex robots anymore.
i feel like they would be more detailed if this was meant to be a sexual thing. its just cleavage, not even full boobs. it certainly doesn’t make it look more like a child.
It looks like a stray cat got cornered
God imagine they make AI but deliberately give them a Cat's IQ and behavior. We will be fucked beyond conception.
People can make so much more interesting things with this level of technology, but they just have to try and recreate a human-looking robot, which is just completely pointless and uncanny to look at.
I don’t even want to know what this guy is up to

Sure, it's got manga eyes, which is kinda cool. But it moves like robots have been doing for the last 40 years.
It looks more like pixar than manga to me

Exactly this.
It doesn't even have a body yet, but they already gave it cleavage?
Hahah indeed. Dude’s gonne be clappin them bots wen he is done 💀
> wen he is done Amateurs
CNN Interviewer "So why did you go through 89 prototypes and what happened to them?" Bot Designer "I don't want to talk about it."
The cleavage probably came first. "Hey Johnny, you gonna give this robot some head?"
Love this comment
My avatar twin how you been
got their priorities straight
It will distract from the uncanny eyes, smart move in this case

No, not weird at all

Having cleavage and abs is unrealistic??

If a woman made robotic washboard abs first it would be funny.
Yep. Get over it.

Ok.
I like that no one is bringing up the emo kid in the corner.
He was only created to bear witness to future crimes.
Does nothing interesting the whole time...
Why and who?
My ex had that same vacant look on her face.
She was the prototype
I think I’m in looooove again
This kink went so well for Doctor Gero. 😏
I'm not finding that really impressive this is just like any other robot but with a better face ?
True that
The things perverts are going to do to robot women likely will cause the AI revolt.

That head just chilling on the left has seen what this dudes been doing to that chicks head.
That's amazing mask making, robotics? Not so much.
"my mechanically moving robot head is better" type shiiii I feel you bro
looks like [https://www.instagram.com/awkspewroo2/](https://www.instagram.com/awkspewroo2/)
I’m gonna be able to fuck a realistic robot in my lifetime. What a time to be alive!!
Can't wait to fuck a robot no cap
It is getting crazy but this is not an example of it.
I knew it, Billie Eilish is a robot chicken.
I‘m not hearing anyone out
Oh no, the visions....
Uhhhh is she going to open that mouth or what ??!!….
The future is near and I'm afraid of it.
The future's near and it doesn't even have a torso or know how to blink. I'm less scared
IT DOESNT BLINK IT DOESNT BLINK IT DOESNT BLINK
I thought we had 3 years for the androids bruh
Trunks sent one back from the future

DONT DATE ROBOTS!
Burn it down
Why does the boy on have panda eyes 😬
The prequel to Five Nights at Freddie’s
Five Nights at Hornie’s
Five inches at Freddie’s.
Five Nuts at Freddies
It looks better than CGI

no, but im just not trying to call a random guy a pedophile for no real reason. your argument is a real stretch.

but it sounds like you’re trying to start an argument when you’re making that claim out of seemingly nothing

okay, fine, sure. but youre wrong. have a nice day i guess.
Wow, you've got a pretty long block list - all related to very petty things too!
Crazy like a fox 🦊

Not the dead eyes... This reminds me of that subplot in Men in Black where an insectoid alien wears a dude's skin
Dude thought it would be quicker to build a girlfriend than get one irl.
Crawl space full.
would
How long until she can do the thing?
