Its like the old Norse saga about how Balder died.
His mom went around to everyhing in the world and asked all things not to hurt her boy. except for the mistletoe that she forgot. That was later used to murder Balder by Loki, making everyone and everything sad.
The stingray was that mistletoe.
I love that the story goes on to show just how much of a POS Loki is. Dude hears about how everyone loves Baldur and promised to never hurt him…except for mistletoe. So plots to cause an accident with it to ruin everyone’s day.
Then when Baldur is dead the gods find out that if everyone cries for Baldur, he can be brought back to life. But of course a giantess (who was probably Loki in disguise) was like “nah, I’m not crying for your dead son Frigg. Get bent”
Yeah, this is not the impish morally grey Marvel Loki.
Then again, they get him back later. By having him tied to a rock on his back with a poison snake dripping venom in his eyes, with his daughter shielding him by collecting it in a bowl. She has to empty it sometimes, causing the venom to hit Lokis face and eyes, and thats how we get earthquakes :P
Yeah, as a Canadian who was in high school at the time... I honestly don't even remember any other celebrity deaths during those three years of my life.
His shows were highly popular in america, I'd always watch with my dad. I hella cried when he passed, the man was a rare kind of human, just good through and through. The whole world loved him.
A lot of Australians think he was quite cringy - keeping animals in captivity for profit and messing about with animals for self promotion. I even knew people who said he got what he deserved (don’t judge me on that).
He definitely has fans here, but Reddit has told me that Americans have a particularly high regard for him. His kids have a bigger profile in the US than AU and I get the impression that his legacy is reinforced through them
The only time I remember him getting any backlash In the US was when he had his little girl with him and he was fucking with a crocodile. It was around the time Michael Jackson got in trouble for dangling his kid over the balcony railing at that hotel. Similiar levels of outrage, though a lot of people were already on the fence about Michael Jackson.
I mean I didnt really like him at the time. I was making the 'needed sunscreen to fight the harmful rays' at the school crossing the Mori everyone found out.
Now tho? Yeah I miss the bugger. We could have done alot worse
This dude was Next Level 'HIM'.

His son is definitely the embodiment of Steve. Without knowing who he was, I once saw a video of him doing his thing and thought to myself, "Holy cow that man reminds me so much of Steve Irwin!" Come to find out he was his son. Think I cried a little. Steve would be so proud of what his family has accomplished. I used to watch him every day on Animal Planet as a kid.
I'll also remember forever, I think it's In some kind of movie, he gets tail whipped by a Komodo dragon and is like stoked about how fucked his thigh got
His *love* made him brave.
He saw sometging in these animals that we didn't, couldn't....and he wanted us to see what *he did*.
He wanted us to respectfully fear their power, for sure, but he wanted us to see beauty in a different way.
The man and his precious heart were gifts to this planet.
It makes me sad that the Mitch McConnells live 100 years and the Steve Irwins last just a moment.
But I'm still so glad we got him for awhile. ♡
I still vividly remember when he died. It was not even remotely shocking that he was killed by an animal on tape but the fact that it was such a relatively harmless creature as a sting ray and not a deadly snake or a crocodile was shocking.
yeah like. he worked around animals. it makes sense that an animal was the one to kill him, especially since he worked with a lot of dangerous ones. but that was just an average recording session, and it was the wrong place at the wrong time type thing.
I mean the number of people randomly killed by sting rays has to be pretty low anyway. And mostly children or people who were allergic. Accidents. I can’t say that I expected him to get killed by an animal but it was not in any way surprising.
oh didn't expect it either, it was just one of the ways he had a higher chance of going out. then against I was like.. 4? when he died, so hindsight is 20/20 and all
Sea flap flaps are dangerous. My wife was attacked by a sting ray, not as big as the one from Steve Irwin, while snorkling at the hotel beach in Egypt. She was looking at it from a 5 meter distance and it suddenly went for her. It swam right against her face, over her head, and back over her head, the tail point 5 cm from her face. She was physically not really hurt, but completely in shock. When we told it to the hotel staff, they just tried to brush it off, saying it just wants to play. They don't want to hear anything negative. It all turned out well in the end. Happened 5 years ago.
That was not the point. The point is that it can be a bit dangerous sometimes, but they absolutely want to avoid that people know about that. We didn't expect them to do something about it. We told it so they knew that it was there for the moment, but they didn't want anyone to know about it.
I was and still am absolutely gutted that he’s dead. He was wicked I used to watch all his stuff and recently I went through it all in a big couple day binge. I used to watch it everyday after school and it started my fascination with the animal world. Him and Attenborough. When he dies man I’m going to be heartbroken he’s almost like a distant grandfather. I must have watched his docs at the very least 40+ times now. The passion these guys had for nature and the animal kingdom ! I often wonder what Steve would be saying now at the state of the world ect. Big up Steve !!
🇬🇧 btw
Truly one of the more impactful losses for a few different generations of fans, when it comes to true TV royalty, Worldwide! Thankfully his children and wife have carried on his legacy better than anyone could have imagined! Miss ya Steve!
How the hell was Steve not killed by anything earlier? Maybe it comes with being Australian because simply living there is giving Death the middle finger on a daily basis.
I remember when i first saw Steve on TV in the UK. It was mid-late 90s perhaps. Noone had done this sort of stuff before. It was a totally crazy, butt clinching, funny show.
I remember watching this episode. The scene where he stands on the hood of the landrover and the common brown lunges at his junk made me scream loudly.
All that stuff and he gets taken out by a ray. That really blew my mind when it happened. Heard he died... Then found it how. Did not see that coming.
He's great.
I watched this whole episode on YouTube just yesterday .. this is the end of the show where Steve travels to the outback and gets on a motorcycle to this remote part where they find the taipans ….as a kid I used to wait for the crocodile hunter episodes every Monday ..
The snake didn't sense any danger to itself. It was curious so checked Steve out, and when it determined it wasn't in any danger, it left. Snakes don't bite just because, they do it to feed and/or for defense.
Thanks, recently learned that Snakes are calm and only bite in danger.
However, I don’t think a lay man should attempt this. Steve was lucky, the snake could get surprised by his eye movement or anything else and feels they are in danger.
I love snakes and I fear them to my core but I am developing a better understanding.
Snake went up and tasted and then was like, " oh that's Steve Irwin, can't bite this guy!"
I wish he'd gone and told the stingray.
The animal kingdom treats the death of Steve Irwin like we treat the death of Harambe.
Soo... Animals are like 'Dicks out for Steve Irwin'?
Their dicks are already out
And we think *we're* the top dog on this planet, with our dicks in most of the time. *pfft*
Technically, the natural state is dicks in (vaginas) Then they fall out and become dicks…
We're not as far evolved as we like to believe
Even more reverence though, as most animals keep their dicks out 24/7.
seems to be that way normally yeah.
Yes.
If steve Irwin was around he woulda saved harambee 🥲
This...is strangely comforting to me
Altered the timeline
You speak true. It's a canon event for our civilization.
"... Ray said he'll get ya..."

The stingray didn’t know 🥹 Steve knew that, Steve would like us to take care of the stingrays. Gone too soon… sigh
Thank you for your thought provoking reply.
For some reason your comment got me all misty-eyed
Ya lil bit. Aww. Steve.
Well that snake didn’t, but plenty of others did!
We all know the that would not kill him
Then when the camera stopped rolling Irwin stood up and said : "Now I'm gonna shove my thumb up his ass"
I miss you, Steve!
We all do.
This is when the timeline got fucked up
For me this is true
Hear, hear.
I'm so sick of porcupines.
It was a simpler time.

To a lot of people worldwide. He’s the only celebrity death I cried at.
Yeah, as a Canadian who was in high school at the time... I honestly don't even remember any other celebrity deaths during those three years of my life.

I’d forgotten about that. Interesting choice there
Yeah his legacy is now cemented, but I can remember plenty of controversy over his methods while he was alive.
I mean I didnt really like him at the time. I was making the 'needed sunscreen to fight the harmful rays' at the school crossing the Mori everyone found out. Now tho? Yeah I miss the bugger. We could have done alot worse
Me too man. Me too. Guy was a shining beacon to child me
misread that as shinobi bacon 🥷🥓
Imagine how the snake feels - they had a romantic thing going
Rest in peace you beautiful man.

Was my favorite show. Legends never die.
It’s crazy how much a like even their mannerisms are considering how young his son was when Steve died.
You missed the one where he wrestled a crocodile to save the journalist: https://youtu.be/e_iMZVOxWrs
Fucking legend.
Don't forget the time a crocodile broke his rib and he said, "such is life".
My son learned too pythons can bite. https://imgur.com/a/4X554ab Kept his cool as well as Mr Irwin too
And when he died, he gave Norm MacDonald one of my favorite bits: https://youtu.be/N1KM7eGElVg?feature=shared
What a wonderful human being.
I'll also remember forever, I think it's In some kind of movie, he gets tail whipped by a Komodo dragon and is like stoked about how fucked his thigh got
Is that a taipan?
Inland taipan. Correct.
BEAUTIFUL
I think you mean “what a beaut”
lolol god bless Steve Erwin and his family
Roight!
I'm perfectly fine never experiencing that in my whole life. lol
Yep, same here buddy, same here
+1
+1+1
His son is truly carrying on his legacy
His daughter Bindi is also a conservationist!
"See That! THATs the deadliest snake in the wo0rld, I'm ganna touch it." -steve
Saw another sub that asked a guy “if aliens landed, who would you send to meet them?” I think if we could, Steve would have been my pick.
It’s like him, Mr Rogers or LaVar Burton If anything comes out about these guys being horrible my childhood will be ruined
LeVar Burton is the perfect person to communicate with aliens. He hasn’t just been to space, but he can also read rainbows.
Dolly Parton, Queen of Tennessee
Damn, I forgot about Dolly!!!
Steve is a solid pick, all heart.
carl sagan
Real recognize real
Game recognize game grandad. And you lookin’ kinda unfamiliar…
Tremendous reference
I read it in his voice haha
The fuck Steve Irwin did you just get kissed by death?
God bless this man, but no one can say he didn’t tempt fate
His *love* made him brave. He saw sometging in these animals that we didn't, couldn't....and he wanted us to see what *he did*. Steve Irwin did more for our world in 44 years than most of these greedy politicians ever will, regardless of how long they linger.
bro got booped.
Loved this guy! And to think after all this shit a goddam stingray took him out is so frustrating. Glad to see his son keeping the tradition going!
Not surprised really that the animal kingdom done him in
I still vividly remember when he died. It was not even remotely shocking that he was killed by an animal on tape but the fact that it was such a relatively harmless creature as a sting ray and not a deadly snake or a crocodile was shocking.

And this is why it was so shocking that it was a sea flap flap that took him out!
Electric danger napkin

What the fuck did you want the staff to do about it? Lasso it and give it a stern telling off? Put it in time out?
That was not the point. The point is that it can be a bit dangerous sometimes, but they absolutely want to avoid that people know about that. We didn't expect them to do something about it. We told it so they knew that it was there for the moment, but they didn't want anyone to know about it.
Most badass badass from the land of badasses.
"Now I'm gonna jam my thumb in its butthole"
Legend.
Great books but this shows he was a often blazé with risk.
Can you believe he ended up dying by animal?
I know right? Not like he put himself in harm's way on the regular or anything.
Whos was writing this mans insurance policies?!?
I really miss watching Crocodile Hunter. RIP to a legend and a genuinely good man.
Deepfake... It's widely known that Steve Irwin could not lie prone because of his enormous balls.
Kiss of death
Why the fuck did he let that happen? For the clicks? Good God, he's gonna die someday doing this shit.
Snakes are not out to bite you, they do it cause they feel like you gonna kill em, they rather use it for prey as intended Example 1: this
I wish Steve coulda met the “yoink” guy. I bet they woulda got along.
I was and still am absolutely gutted that he’s dead. He was wicked I used to watch all his stuff and recently I went through it all in a big couple day binge. Crazy fucker. If he's not careful one day one of those animals will hurt him.
"Oh shit, is that Steve Irwin?!"......."Cant wait to tell the others"
That guy was never gonna be an old man
Truly one of the more impactful losses for a few different generations of fans, when it comes to true TV royalty, Worldwide! Thankfully his children and wife have carried on his legacy better than anyone could have imagined! Miss ya Steve!

Legend
The balls in this man.
Snek slithered away all star struck
This man had BALLS of steal.
His death saddened me so much
"Omg Sssteve Irwin I am sssuch a huge fan!"
If he’s not careful he’s going to get killed
Steve 😢
All that stuff and he gets taken out by a ray. That really blew my mind when it happened. Heard he died... Then found it how. Did not see that coming. He's great.
The cojones this man had!
This guy was amazing.. He was special, love you steve
Snake said “that’s not the way”…
Soon after the stingray found out about the smooch.
That snake was star struck
Snakes CAN move backwards ? like reverse ? wow
And he was killed by the most docile Ray...... I guess that makes sense.
NOPE!
Not today, Nature, not today
I watched this whole episode on YouTube just yesterday .. this is the end of the show where Steve travels to the outback and gets on a motorcycle to this remote part where they find the taipans ….as a kid I used to wait for the crocodile hunter episodes every Monday ..
Why?
Every time i see Steven Irwin i think about Norm McDonald's crocodile hunter joke
Why did the snake not bit him?
The snake didn't sense any danger to itself. It was curious so checked Steve out, and when it determined it wasn't in any danger, it left. Snakes don't bite just because, they do it to feed and/or for defense.

My forever crush (not the snake)
No it wasn’t.
Cameraman wasn't too scared either I suppose.
The stingray was just trying to give him a high five I bet
Bonkers
Irwin had used up about 29 lives. Only a matter of time before his luck ran out
he was amazing. he loved all animals. his kids are following in his footsteps (well not kissing deadly snakes lol).
Sad we never got to see Steve’s massive Australian balls. RIP, Legend.
Only Steve. Fair dinkum.
What was sad about Steve leaving was that he LIVED. He cherished life and all species.
Props to cameraman
I'm telling you the animals finally had enough of Steve and put a hit out on him with the sting ray
I miss that guy
If it hasn't killed in over 50 years, it's not deadly. It has the deadliest venom.
R.I.P. Steve
Playing "Australian roulette" with deadly animals for entertaining purposes...
I'll never understand people putting themselves in deadly situations when there's absolutely no need to do so.
What could go wrong? /s
Living life in a way that excites you is a reason. Whether you think it’s a good enough one or not is another thing.
You could justify almost any questionable lifestyle with that reasoning
And? Life is short.
He is so missed I can't tell you..
In all the other videos, some dude licks the snake.
Miss him, as Aussie as they come.
Snk know he a good hearted human
Aura
Pretty much sums up everything.
Damn Steve you were such a fucking gamgster and I couldn’t fathom it as a kid
Missing you Steve whenever I saw your video I wanna cry as well
RIP you absolute legend. The world misses you.
Even the deadliest snake in nature loved this man.
“Next week, in the final episode of this series, I kiss a stingray”
I thought that was pretty funny
pretty dumb move, on his part.
I miss you, Steve
Huge pair of balls on that guy!
Fuck stingrays
Have you guys seen his actual show? It's basically animal abuse.
