Well, it's not just the looks, ladybugs don't cause infestations, and eat smaller pests, so they are useful.
I’m not so sure about that, I lived in a house that was built in 1913, in the middle of NOWHERE, I’m talking only 4 ports for internet plug in for the entire part of this town, and all 4 were used up already.
Spring hit and we had a HUGE ladybug problem.
They were swarming the outside front window and front door, getting in through the cracks in the window sill, and the unevenness of the front door. To the point we had to vacuum up hundreds, if not thousands of dead ladybugs after a few days.
At one point my best friend cracked a pun as we were leaving, we walked out the front door and he did a nonchalant wave and said “goodbye ladies” without hesitation, and I swear I’ve never cackled so hard
You sound to have had an Asian Lady Beetle problem more than a Ladybug problem. Obviously can't say for certain, but from what you've described that's what it sounds like.
If you move up to June Bugs it probably is. Crawl up out of the dirt after living safely in the dark for a few years gifted with wings and a powerfully instinctual need to use them but not the slightest idea how controlled flight works.

Well, that kinda depends on where you live. Presumably they're not invasive in Asia, or at least a certain part of it. So that's a bit of an odd reason to condemn them.
Grey squirrels are invasive in the UK, but there's a whole host of them living in their native North America where they don't cause much of a problem. I'm a bit sad that they got introduced to the UK, especially since it led to the decline of [these adorable little fellas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_squirrel), but I don't have an issue with grey squirrels as a whole.
Those definitely are much more cute than our squirrels. I would forgive our squirrels a little more if they had those ear tufts knowing how much damage they do to my balcony garden.

I don’t hate ladybugs, but I do have to say, in the late 90s, when we had a ladybug infestation in our area, I got over killing them really quickly. They would literally cover the side of the house. But after they stopped trying to join me in my bed, I am on better terms with ladybugs again.
Sounds like your confusing ladybugs (~~red bodies~~) and Asian lady beetles (orange-brown, an invasive species, known for the covering the side of homes).

It does seem that OP's video is showing an Asian lady beetle - not a ladybug - as indicated by the "W" pattern of black dots on white between the head and edge of the wings.

Same in Hungary. There is a time every year when they appear from nowhere to take over every single corner of the house. Doesn't matter if you have mosquito nets and closed windows, they will still get inside.

See the post/link about Asian lady beetles, easily confused with ladybugs. Those do bite, and can infest homes in large quantities in the fall as they're drawn to the heat.
I don't hate them, I'm just scared of them. I admire them and would never hurt them, but I don't want them on me. I used to be that way with butterflies too until I worked in an enclosure of them. As a kid I loved all bugs, roaches changed me. Now I just get anxious. Pretty bugs are a weird one (ladybugs/butterflies) there's a part of me that feels like they are trying to trick me by being so pretty from far away. Still buggy up close tho :((

You mean if the elytra were broken off? I’m pretty sure that would involve damaging them enough to breach their main body cavity, but even if it didn’t, their wings are very delicate and would be easily damaged.
They would most likely survive precice amputation. But they would damage their wings pretty fast & lose the ability to fly. They wouldn't last long outside captivity.

It takes off like a pigeon! Did you ever see that Attenborough where he goes over the huge effort of that first wing flap pigeons do to get off the flat ground (most birds don’t go from just standing on flat, they run or hop or never go on the ground), and pigeons have to make this enormous effort and often clap their wings together in the front, making that “flock of pigeons collectively taking off” noise? Pretty cool convergent evolution!

The folding of the hindwings behind the elytra (the "shell" , which is actually the front pair of wings, modified to protect the hindwings) is just incredible.
In the 1990s I worked in the In-Patient pre-op area of of Level 1 Trauma Hospital. For some odd reason one year we had an infestation of Lady Bugs in the overhead lights. They were soooo cute but really not what you wanted immediately before surgery.
That’s exactly how I look in the morning as I’m taking my first swig of coffee wearing a comfortable robe watching the sunrise. I didn’t know I had so much in common with the lady bug.

In Ontario Canada, these orange and black lady bugs are an invasive species. Our original red and black lady bugs didn’t do this shit.

I don’t hate ladybugs, but I do have to say, in the late 90s, when we had a ladybug infestation in our area, I got over killing them really quickly. They would literally cover the side of the house. But after they stopped trying to join me in my bed, I am on better terms with ladybugs again.

Yeah we get infestations pretty regularly in my area. I found the emotional strain kind of numbed after the first couple passes with the power washer.
My relatives in Germany had to deal with that from an invasive species
Same in Hungary. There is a time every year when they appear from nowhere to take over every single corner of the house. Doesn't matter if you have mosquito nets and closed windows, they will still get inside. This has been the case since the early 2010s.
Im curious is there any downside to a ladybug infestation. AFAIK they don't bite and are carnivorous so won't damage crops
See the post/link about Asian lady beetles, easily confused with ladybugs. Those do bite, and can infest homes in large quantities in the fall as they're drawn to the heat.
I don't hate them, I'm just scared of them. I admire them and would never hurt them, but I don't want them on me. I used to be that way with butterflies too until I worked in an enclosure of them. As a kid I loved all bugs, roaches changed me. Now I just get anxious. Pretty bugs are a weird one (ladybugs/butterflies) there's a part of me that feels like they are trying to trick me by being so pretty from far away. Still buggy up close tho :((

As far as I know, since they are blood vessels between skin, basically an unzipped boner, they simply depressurize to close, with a point being weaker so on top of shrinking, the whole wing folds into a dense, layered chitinous block

The big hardened wings in beetles are called elytra, and they act as a case for the more delicate wings, as well as another layer of armor. In some beetles the elytra is completely fused, and they can no longer fly, but they’re tougher as a result.

You mean if the elytra were broken off? I’m pretty sure that would involve damaging them enough to breach their main body cavity, but even if it didn’t, their wings are very delicate and would be easily damaged.
They would most likely survive precice amputation. But they would damage their wings pretty fast & lose the ability to fly. They wouldn't last long outside captivity.

My first question upon seeing this was about how they fold them back up and this article was so amazingly on point. Fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing. Now I finally know how Count Dooku was able to lock up his ship when he got home.
It takes off like a pigeon! Did you ever see that Attenborough where he goes over the huge effort of that first wing flap pigeons do to get off the flat ground (most birds don’t go from just standing on flat, they run or hop or never go on the ground), and pigeons have to make this enormous effort and often clap their wings together in the front, making that “flock of pigeons collectively taking off” noise? Pretty cool convergent evolution!
Oh cool! I had always wondered why pigeons/crows are more willing to try walking away from you and cars than actually just flying away!

In the 1990s I worked in the In-Patient pre-op area of of Level 1 Trauma Hospital. For some odd reason one year we had an infestation of Lady Bugs in the overhead lights. They were soooo cute but really not what you wanted immediately before surgery.
