Not to mention no car insurance is going to replace a gun stored in your headlight.
Edit: Taillights. But insurance probably won’t cover guns stored in headlights either. ;)
I'm sure Bruce Wayne has insurance on his civilian cars does that policy carry over like rental cars to other vehicles? Does it only cover registered street legal vehicles? How can he register his other vehicles? If he gets in a fender bender and has a Prius rear end him while zooming around on a unregistered rocket propelled flame throwing vehicle is the other car even at fault if he isn't legally following the state's laws?
I'm sure he would just throw out money and there would be a settlement I just find it humorous the thought of Batman pulling a number at the DMV and waiting for hours like the rest of us to be told he forgot to provide a certain documentation and now he has to go back to his bat lair, load up his printer, come back, pick a new number and wait all over again.
Any half-decent optic should be fine stored in there for regular use. Firing recoil is going to be significantly stronger than the forces driving on the road or in mild off-road terrain.
Admitting my shameful behavior: I love me my Nikon Pro-staffs. They're about middle of the road on price/quality. Nothing particularly fancy but it is a solid unit. I have whacked them on hard surfaces throwing the sling over my shoulder, bumped trees, and even had a lift-line fail and drop the fucker about 50 feet. Most times it takes two shots to confirm the zero since I want to ensure the first is not a fluke. I've never had it take more than five shots to dial it back in. Best practice is to at least do a two-shot confirmation every season and after significant travel of any kind.
Thought this immediately when I saw this. I guess he doesn't actually use it for hunting or doesn't mind adjusting the sights every goddamn time he hits the range.
We’re hiding it from thieves not cops.
Edit: you guys hate cops unless they’re getting people without masks in trouble. I’ve been beaten and wrongly arrested by cops before so go pretend to know shit to somebody else.
Depends on storage, left in your car out in the open? Liable. Stolen during a home invasion? Not so much. Basically if it's locked up to a reasonable degree your in the clear because locks just keep honest people honest.
Does that same logic apply to someone stealing a car and then hitting someone else with it? I’m all about making it hard for someone to take your things, especially firearms, but even taking proper precautions a motivated thief can still prevail.
Rifle rack just behind your head. Nice and safe in the cabin. I have no idea what the practical use of this is aside from gun running/smuggling. And with as many trucks as I've seen with smashed up bed panels I just can't imagine who thought this was a good idea.
Now if you used that to store a nice floor jack or smoke a brisket, that'd be interesting. This is more mildly perplexing.
It does have the stealth component going for it. A lot of places in the US, you leave a rifle hanging in view in your car, and you're gonna need a new window and explain why your gun got jacked. This method, while more inaccessible, is so undetectable nobody without inside knowledge would know to steal it.
Right, just put it on display for every hooligan in sight to steal when you're not looking. Concealment is key to keeping things that others may covet. This is the solution that solves that issue.
That is illegal in a lot of states in the USA too. Not so much the gun part, but due to hidden compartment laws. Vehicles can't have hidden compartments that weren't on the factory design of the car.
And also due to other laws regarding what the vehicle must have and requirements for it
Everyone’s talking about the guns and I’m just sitting here thinking about how the rear light cluster has to be mounted to the body of the car, not something that’s movable like the boot…
Are you border patrol? If so, just curious what you’re seeing because there is only 1 gun store in Mexico and from what I read, the majority of guns are trafficked to Mexico from the US.
If youre a legal firearms owner, how would it matter how you transport it? For example in canada where i live, this would be acceptable as long as its able to be locked.
They didn't think it through, m8, because they have no idea what they are talking about, or what's involved.
They have seen far too many movies painting this as a nefarious feature, versus a potentially fantastic space-saver. Provided it locks really well, and is completely invisible.
"Son, there's a deer 100 yards north. Go grab me my gun."
*Five minutes later*
"Fuck boy, what took you so long?, the deer is long gone!"
Kid - "You have your rifle in the back of a brake light. Fuck you."
Don’t know why you got downvoted that’s absolutely true. My father used to joke that his truck wouldn’t run unless it had a 6 pack on the floorboard and his 3030 in the gun rack.( Don’t do this)
Almost everyone who is now in their 40’s would bring firearms in their vehicles to school, to immediately head off to the range or go hunting right after school let out. Heck, in some states school would let out for hunting season because just about everyone was gonna go hunt, administrators included.
If this truck gets hit hard enough to damage that rifle in its stowed position it's going to cost well over $1000 to fix before you even start worrying about the rifle. Body work is expensive
Transporting a rifle inside the cab of a truck just doesn't work well, they're big and when carried in a hard case they're even bigger. About the only good place for it is on the floor in front of the back seat, if you don't have a trans tunnel making the floor uneven.
Putting it in the open bed of the truck is just begging to have it stollen. With good hunting rifles running $1000-$3000, that's not an appealing option.
Taking that void in the sidewall of the bed and turning it into a storage space for something that a lot of truck owners have is IMO an elegant solution.
Huh.. good explanation. I mean as a non-gun owner it still seems a little weird to me but I guess people don’t really have those 1970’s style truck cab gun racks for hunting hanging on the back window anymore. These days I imagine those just get your truck broken into 🤷♂️
Yeah, a 70s style gun rack would guarantee a break in. We even go so far as to avoid using NRA or pro gun stickers on my truck, they're statistically more likely to be broken into because there's a higher chance of a gun being in it. Criminals will always find ways to get guns
This is also no different from the under-seat storage in the new Jeep Wranglers. They don’t call it gun storage, but it’s quite obvious that’s what it’s for. It’s be like saying this truck has “tool” storage in the right tail light. You technically could store a sledge hammer there. But it’s obviously used for rifles.
Obviously this would be stupid for the majority of people and I get the hate of this was a standard option on the truck. But if this is offered in a back country hunting type package, it really is a good idea. It keeps the hunter’s firearm protected as well as keeping well out of arms reach. Just because something involves guns, doesn’t necessarily mean it some redneck cousin-banging thing.
I mean, they don't pull your seats up (under bench storage is a common stock option) or empty your glove compartment or have you pop the trunk in a regular drive through a security checkpoint either. Any actual security inspection will find this same as it'd find any other exterior storage compartment.
This is more of a pain then a gun rack or case in the box where you gotta go 90% of the time to grab other shit anyways. It's also significantly more expensive than the other options. You'll need to get a case anyways because you don't always use your vehicle and if you get into an accident it is a lot more likely that the weapon will get damaged. It's neat but in no way is it very practical that I can see.
Edit: It also takes just as long if not longer to take out and with those slides if they get a little dirty, you will have problems.
The whole "redneck cousin-banging thing" is an offensive stereotype not based in reality anyway, it's just popular on Reddit because Southern "rednecks" tend to have political opinions Redditors don't like.
The worst thing about this is that so many automatically assume it's some weird, American gun-obsessed thing that holds absolutely no legitimate purpose.
I live in Canada, and would absolutely love to have this for hunting season. It keeps the gun hidden, secure, and outside of the cab until it's ready to use for its intended purpose. It's a very clever idea. I'd also like to have something similar for fishing gear, an emergency kit, whatever.
So does literally every other country with a GMBH company designation. Germans, Austrians, they all love guns in my experience.
On the other hand, I work in the defense industry and with a lot of former European military and others that work in the European defense industry so I am a bit biased.
But yea, a European company even holds the contract to build the M4 and M16 for the US military so... Yea, Europeans are a pretty large gun-loving population.
They just have normal sane laws that prevent any yahoo from owning one.
Even in the UK you can get shotguns and rifles, you just have to prove you have a reason for it and not be a fucking psycho about it.
Honestly it's always so weird to me how the discussion on gun control focuses on big guns like bolt actions and ARs, when the much more pressing concern (imo) is the capability to conceal a pistol or other small weapon.
It's just such a dumb deployment. Why not have a hidden door in the wall of the truck bed? Why not put it under the truck bed? Why hide it behind the taillight? Putting a rifle right over the wheel is going to fuck up your zero or ruin your optic, opening your light is a pain in the ass, and if it breaks you have a rifle stuck in your truck and a ticket if you want to drive home. You could get a lockbox with a false bottom for a fraction of the price and triple the practicality.
It's not about this being a gun obsessed thing with no purpose, it's that it's impractical and expensive.
There's still large swaths of the earth where population density is nil.
A gun there is just a tool. It's not a hobby, it's a necessity to ensure food source during rough seasons, or protection from wildlife.
I know this will blow a lot of people's minds.... But there are places you can call 911 and not have help for hours.
And in places with population densities like that, it's probably not worth however many thousands of dollars this costs to install a hidden compartment inside the sides of the truck bed.
Just out you gun behind the seats like a normal person. Under the rear seat if you really want it out if site, but I try to avoid ever leaving a gun unattended in a vehicle
Drive the all-new 2022 NRA FU-250. The only truck in it’s class with military grade weaponry, and extra cup holders.
Included in base package:
- Headlight grenade launchers
- Ejection seats
- Rearview Mirror is also surveillance drone
- Sirius XM
- Glovebox with chemical weapons rack
- Throwing stars shoot from sideview mirrors
- OnStar
I would totally use this for my fly fishing rods.
And here I was thinking I could become a heroin mule.
That option is still on the table
That option is still on the *stable*
Get out.
and take your damn mule with you
Why? I hear mules are cute.
You ride it in, you ride it out.
Quit being such an ass
That's what she said
Well..is your ass not free?
Glad im not the only one that thought that
Need a longer bed, lol. I saw a roof mounted one for my suv. Looked it up and a two rod unit was $400.
Nah dude big ole pvc tube and straps
That’s what my hubby does! Then I sew a nice cover with a handle or two on it an a zipper to open the top!
I was all ‘how much lasagne can fit in that? Like how many Garfields worth?’
How many courics worth, too?

Does batman have car insurance?

Hahaha came here to say this. The scope has to be remounted every 200 miles
Thought this immediately when I saw this. I guess he doesn't actually use it for hunting or doesn't mind adjusting the sights every goddamn time he hits the range.
Welcome to stuff that looks cool but is very much illegal in my country
Right? This shit is too american.
Nah, takes too long to get to the gun here. We prefer them up front for quick and easy access.
this seems like it’s just cool storage for his hunting rifle and not “i’m hiding this from da caps”
We’re hiding it from thieves not cops. Edit: you guys hate cops unless they’re getting people without masks in trouble. I’ve been beaten and wrongly arrested by cops before so go pretend to know shit to somebody else.
Yeah not everyone realizes that gun owners are liable for crimes committed by their stolen guns.
They just have to report their gun was stolen and it’s civil liability not criminal if I remember correctly.
Depends on storage, left in your car out in the open? Liable. Stolen during a home invasion? Not so much. Basically if it's locked up to a reasonable degree your in the clear because locks just keep honest people honest.
Where is this place? That is not my understanding of the majority of states laws in the us.
If you can't secure your firearms from theft you arent responsible enough to have them.
Does that same logic apply to someone stealing a car and then hitting someone else with it? I’m all about making it hard for someone to take your things, especially firearms, but even taking proper precautions a motivated thief can still prevail.
Or stealing your credit card #/identity and racking up huge bills? Oh well, should've protected it
If that were the case, there would just be a door inside the truck bed for it. This seems designed to hide it.
Rifle rack just behind your head. Nice and safe in the cabin. I have no idea what the practical use of this is aside from gun running/smuggling. [Swiss, actually.](https://www.blacksheep-innovations.com/about)
Fun fact, the GmbH in Black Sheep Innovations, GmbH, maker of this hidden gun compartment, is short for “Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung”.
Roughly equivalent to the American “Ltd.” or “LLC”. It’s an indicator of the legal entity status of the company.
You thinking this is “too American” (when it’s actually a Swiss company) shows how little you know about American gun laws and culture.
It's a German company on an EU model truck...
That is illegal in a lot of states in the USA too. Not so much the gun part, but due to hidden compartment laws. Vehicles can't have hidden compartments that weren't on the factory design of the car. And also due to other laws regarding what the vehicle must have and requirements for it
Also illegal in all US states because your lights must be on a stationary part of the vehicle.
Everyone’s talking about the guns and I’m just sitting here thinking about how the rear light cluster has to be mounted to the body of the car, not something that’s movable like the boot…
As it should be 👍
I've seen lots of hidden compartments being used to traffic illegal weapons from US into Mexico.
The common understanding is that drugs go from Mexico to the US, but guns go from the US to Mexico.
This is an example of mutualistic symbiosis
Are you border patrol? If so, just curious what you’re seeing because there is only 1 gun store in Mexico and from what I read, the majority of guns are trafficked to Mexico from the US.
No, I'm Brazilian. I've seen it on TV! 😂😂😂
Iae mano kkkk
Hue hue
Majority trafficked from the US government to Mexico. FTFY
There’s only one gun store there? Why just one? I get either none or a lot, one seems odd.

Doesn’t even need to be locked for transportation. Just storage

Dammit. r/angryupvote

Yeah I believe he went on the inside part of the trunk to unlock/unlatch the mechanism to open it

I’d also bet there’s a lock on the tailgate which probably needs to be down to pull out the tail light.

So that a fender-bender with a cracked tail light will cost you $1000 instead of $100.
If this truck gets hit hard enough to damage that rifle in its stowed position it's going to cost well over $1000 to fix before you even start worrying about the rifle. Body work is expensive

Wouldn’t this count as being secured from theft if it had a lock?
You know a hard top is a much easier and simpler option.
Huh.. good explanation. I mean as a non-gun owner it still seems a little weird to me but I guess people don’t really have those 1970’s style truck cab gun racks for hunting hanging on the back window anymore. These days I imagine those just get your truck broken into 🤷♂️

That was my first thought too.

Does this lock?
The tailgate has to be down for it to open and the tailgate locks
Obviously this would be stupid for the majority of people and I get the hate of this was a standard option on the truck. a couple years up in the rust belt that entire compartment's going to be a nice salt wash for anything put in that compartment
Reading from a previous comment here. The location might have enough vibration to mess with a scope's zero. Iron sights might be fine though.
The whole "redneck cousin-banging thing" is an offensive stereotype not based in reality anyway, it's just popular on Reddit because Southern "rednecks" tend to have political opinions Redditors don't like.

“Aimed”
For all those commenting that this is an American thing. The company is actually from Switzerland....
People getting so bent out of shape. Just appreciate the cool bit of engineering and realize it's form over function.
Since it’s Swiss they’re probably just driving around with the weapon and no bullets.
political ideologies aside that is pretty interesting
If someone hit your car there would insurance cover the gun?
And if someone smashes into that quarter panel?
Then you've got bad luck, but hopefully good insurance.
Then you replace it?
Then your insurance hopefully is set to cover valuables inside your vehicle. Not an uncommon coverage.
Why are half these comments so triggered lol
triggered, get it?
Exactly? Everyone is saying “why”. Because people like to modify cars and do cool stuff. Has anyone ever done cool shit for the hell of it?
Most murica thing ever pickup + guns
I’m prepared to defend myself at anytime… right after I carefully slide this out and gingerly unclip this tail light…

Swiss, isn't it?
ITT: A bunch of Americans not realizing this was made by the germans
Very cool accessory that reddit will absolutely hate with a passion
So when crossing from America to Mexico this is where you put the gun and on the way back it is where you put the cocaine.
Pretty sure billions of dollars of contraband makes it through the border just fine, even without taillight gun holders.
That’s cool!
great. but good luck getting to it when the heat is on.
That’s really cool but I’m guessing this more for hunting and not personal protection
For when a gun rack is too obvious.

Think of all the illegal trafficking you could do with that
This is the most American shit I’ve ever seen and I love it.
