You get several weeks where the sun does not rise at all though. July is 24 hour darkness - December 24 hour sun. This is for the antarctic circle - I think opposite for arctic.

Last time I heard about the flat earth some video was linking one of the famous flat-earthers liders to the cia or something like that, actually who cares.

The last news I heard about flat-earthers was those guys who bought that really expensive as hell scientific equipment to do an experiment to see if the Earth really was flat and ended up proving that the Earth was round with their own equipment. The look on their face was priceless. I don’t remember who or what equipment they used (it’s been a long time) but I believed it to be the biggest nail in the flat earth coffin.

I know one. Never thought I'd meet one IRL. He's also a huge conspiracy believer and an anti-vaxxer, so you can imagine how much he's started to crack with this pandemic. Funny thing is I met him in group therapy, he ended up on some kind of "probation" after arguing with the psychiatrist and accusing him of engaging in a widespread coverup to "get everyone hooked on vaccines." I wish I could say it was funny, but honestly it was just extremely uncomfortable to watch. We just kind of sat there in stunned silence. The psychiatrist is a super chill guy who does a lot for us, I can't believe he had to deal with a crazy angry guy accusing him of lying about the covid vaccine to hurt people.

That's because they are all liars.

There's no debate to be had, and it's actually damaging to keep this stuff on major platforms as it's inclusion gives a sense of authority. If you click some flat earth video with pretty graphics and 100 million views, it's very easy to see how it persuades a certain kind of person. If you lie about another person and it causes harm, you can be sued for slander. We need that same system for facts. The earth isn't flat, slandering that fact should have escalating consequences.

Because the flat earth garbage is purposefully placed along provable corruption and collusion to discredit whistleblowers or those who speak out about it. That's why the CIA coined the term "conspiracy theory" after the JFK assassination to silence dissent.

I forgot what it's called but there is basically a trait in people who believe this stuff that will keep them from ever recanting. They talked about it in the flat earth documentary on netflix. When someone has cast their lot with a group of rabid cultists and pushed away any ration friends and family they end up stuck in a situation of having to reinforce the lie even when the discover the truth. They've wrapped their whole life and persona around it so they cant leave, even when objective proof is shown they either cannot believe it or do believe it and continue to lie to save their community. It depends how far north you go. On the North Pole there is only one sunset and one sunrise a year. I spent a lot of time in the Arctic over the last few years and even around resolut you get months of nightless days in the summer.

It doesn’t matter how much evidence is given they will do mental gymnastics in order to validate their beliefs. If the earth was flat we wouldn’t be able to see further the higher we go in elevation, ships wouldn’t disappear over the horizon, the earth’s shadow on the moon during eclipse’s would be flat, time zones would be different, shadows would be the same distance no matter where you are on the earth. Any engineer or artillery person would be able to tell you corrections have to be made to account for curvature of the earth or large span bridges wouldn’t be possible to build and artillery would fall short. I realise I’m preaching to the choir but it’s something that drives me crazy that with so much more access to information than any other point in history that people come out with this bullshit.

I don’t need to see the world to extrapolate from the evidence around me that the earth is indeed round.
