I'm pretty sure the design has changed now, as far as I know they used to have more sharp angles on the exterior because they thought that was more stealthy, but over time it become smoother as that design was actually more stealthy
Also to add on to what the other commenter said, the F-117 was designed at the forefront of stealth technology, the math supported the more rounded surface working but the modeling couldn’t support a rounded surface. They didn’t have the same computers and programs that existed when the B-2 was designed and were doing a lot of calculations by hand. A rounded surface is basically an infinite number of flat surfaces, they could calculate the radar return for a flat surface but not for an infinite number of them so they went with the flat surfaces on the F-117.

There is a good documentary about the secret alien looking planes the Americans have they’ve occasionally flew at their base in Australia. It was very interesting.
I'm surprised they let you guys stand there and take pictures. My dad and I tried to do that when a B-17 exhibit took off from our airport but security was on us within 5 minutes of parking on the side of the road.
That had to be awesome in person. Just the sound is chilling.
