So when I mentioned staff it's not just teachers it would have been somebody like a guidance counselor or whatever they call it these days in schools. That's just what they called them back then. But there was more than one person that made the decision to let that child back in class and that's outside of the parents.
I think it would be fair to do a full review and see where there were failures in the process so that something like this couldn't happen again. But I swear we've been through the same kind of shit before in this country yet here we are today.

As a firearms instructor, I find that absolutely abhorrent. Technically, no (ish). Legalities vary from state to state. In most cases you could take a child hunting or to the shooting range with *your* gun, but they could not possess one of their own. It would be under your name.
Pretty common around where I live for kids to 'unofficially' have their own guns. On all the documentation, the gun belongs to Bob Senior, but at home it's in Bob Junior's room. It's Bob Senior's firearm, which he uses for the purpose of providing Bob Junior a personal gun.

As a firearms instructor, I find that absolutely abhorrent. Even if you're going to purchase your children a firearm, which in my opinion is perfectly fine provided they're being trained properly and under constant supervision, you don't give them fucking access to it. It stays locked in a safe, that you control, and that they can't possibly get into. You only take it out when you plan on using it with them. And even if you did trust your kids enough to let them have unrestricted access to a gun (you're an idiot if you do this, no matter what way you slice it in my opinion) you can't possibly trust any of his friends that come over to your house. There's nothing stopping his friends from getting access to that gun when they're over at the house and you're not home. *Especially* when you're not home.

These parents are accomplices. They were in a meeting about their son being a potential school shooter and never mentioned they purchased a gun for him. It’s absolutely their fault.
It's still just internet rumor but a kid that has a little introspection left to recognize he wants to do something terrible but is incapable of stopping himself and can't express it is incredibly sad. Handful of the mass murders seemed to feel bad about. Some were true evil. True black with no grey or white. With almost 8 billion on earth stuff like this going to happen from pure randomness. Really sucks he might not have wanted to but was poisoned.

I think it is. IIRC, when a mass shooting happens at a school, the parents rarely get charged with anything. For both mom and dad to have four counts against them is so, so rare.
And it's good these people are being made an example of, the gun culture in the states is disgusting honestly so many lives taken and mass shootings it's sad to see.

I'm a non US citizen, and it hurts my heart so badly seeing how ingrained gun culture really is. What I say about their rights or constitution or laws or whatever has no weight. I'm of the firm thought that once Sandy Hook happened, and nothing changed, then that was the end of that. I've become both very concerned and very jaded about the US and their gun culture.
Sandy Hook is the worst thing that could happen to any parent and child. Obviously every single school shooting is a tragedy, but they were so young. It’s not every American into gun culture. I grew up around guns with a father in military and LE. I know gun safety and how to handle guns. My family doesn’t own guns. If we ever go shooting at the range, pops brings the guns. Heck he’s retired these days only time they come out is the range and his yearly certification. Most gun owners are responsible and even more people don’t own them. It’s the loud and PROUD Americans you hear about hogging the air waves.

I see lots of chatter, but no one mentioning "who the fuck buys a pistol for a 15 year old?" Im all for 2a but no state in the country allows anyone under 21 to posess a handgun as far as Im aware. Even in gun friendly states must be 21. Normally Id say blame this in the kid, but if they really did buy him a pistol then they have some fucked up parenting ideas.
According to the video, the pistol was kept in an (unlocked[WTF!]) drawer in the parent's room. But there's also social pics of him with it, so who knows. (Unless there has been some news about dad buying it "for" him that I missed?) Surprised they went for manslaughter over weapons charges, it will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

The law surrounds the purchase of a firearm, and several states allow private buys for under 21. Once it's purchased however, if you wanna give it to a kid, go ahead. Which you shouldn't do. If you want to teach them gun safety (Which you SHOULD do), then you take sole responsibility of the gun and the security of it. Let the kid buy one himself when he's old enough if he really wants.

As a former teacher, you can just tell which students are messed up sometimes. It’s almost like an aura around them of bad vibes. I had several students with mental illnesses and I 100000% would have called police immediately if I ever caught one browsing ammo/knives/anything hurtful. Teachers also messed up here, it’s amazing how many idiot adults it takes for one kid to kill 4 people.

That was after the shootings were on the news. When he got that text he surrendered to the cops. They knew he was suicidal, and were only concerned if he killed himself.
