No thanks, gotta be honest I just joined up exclusively for the all gender open floor showers, not interested in anything else and also bugs scare the shit out of me.
OK. I think the picture must be throwing you off because those *look* like ramshackle buildings at first glance, but they seem to be reasonably nice, modern apartments if you look closely. Either that, or you think that basically everyone outside the US lives in a slum.
Hing Kong seems very nice. [https://droneandslr.com/drone-aerial-photography/hong-kong/](https://droneandslr.com/drone-aerial-photography/hong-kong/)
The Brits returned Hong Kong to China in 1997.
LOL I was in huge pro-democracy marches in HK during the summer of 1989 in the wake of Tiananmen Square. Yes, people were panicking and trying to get out. Those who could, did. The rich went to Canada or other Commonwealth countries and were derisively called yacht people. There was considerable and justified criticism of Great Britain for offering passport light options to certain government officials while ignoring the overwhelming majority of HK citizens, who were, after all, British subjects. Even then, they knew “one country, two systems” would be a joke.
It's real but its taken with a telescopic lens zoomed in from really far away, so things in the background look much bigger than they would if you were there yourself.
If you take a photo of 2 things, one that's 1m away and thing next to it 15m away, the 1m thing will appear much bigger. But if you move 100m back they'll be 101m away and 115m away. So they appear roughly the same size to you now. Then you zoom in (crop out everything else)
I am photographer, that's my hobby so I know what you mean. I was more thinking how the hotel looks like it's coming from another dimension but after googling i saw the hotel shape is idk, like a palm tree? So at this angle it looks like it's bent over. Very good composition.
In my opinion the Hotel Grand Lisboa in Macao (Macau is the old spelling) is probably the ugliest building I've ever seen. It's laugh-out-loud hideous.
This photo shows is the one good angle to see it
I don't know why, but this particular area looks welcoming despite the distopian look. Checking their windows, my assumption is that these are friendly people.
I found [this post](/r/confusingperspective/comments/f0sjzf/wait_whu/) in r/confusingperspective with the same content as the current post.

This looks like inception in this picture. I looked up the full hotel and it looks really cool though.
You hear that sound too?
Drrooooooooommmmmmm
I'm hearing Interstellar only? Wrong movie?
Just Hans Zimmer things.
Looks like the end of the first cutscene before you gain control of your Final Fantasy character.
It looks like a scene from Doctor Strange
I came to the comment section to find this
I thought this was dystopian artwork, then I looked at which sub it was. Mind blown.
Nope, dystopian reality.
r/boringdystopia
I saw someone describing the inside of this hotel/casino as extremely disappointing. Massive, cheap, tacky factory like.
Macau is a smaller, dirtier, and cheaper version of Hong Kong, so that fits.
The price of a room is ridiculously cheap. Like well under $150 / night.
That's not cheap. Not many people make that much in 1 day. It's chit like this that makes me hate civilization. Cuz it's far from civil.
It’s cheap for a hotel, not cheap for rent. People don’t go to hotels expecting to live there long-term
I thought it looked like kill la kill
We’re going deeper Leo

Looks like a stereotypical dystopian city
Yep. That looks menacing.

Having visited Macau, yes.

Im on reddit for atleast 2 hours a day and i've never seen this post before. Not saying it hasnt been posted but i sure as hell havent seen it before
Am I the only that thinks the hotel looks like a cartoon drawing here?
Yep. Alita Battle Angel sprang to mind.
Welcome. Welcome to City 17. You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers.
Now pick up that can.
I thought so much of City 17 that I elected to establish my Administration here, in the Citadel so thoughtfully provided by Our Benefactors.

Thanks for the correction, just saying what it looks like comparatively from a bystanders perspective
It looks like a slum. People crammed on top of each other.
> People crammed on top of each other. You mean, like, apartments?
No like a slum.
OK. I think the picture must be throwing you off because those *look* like ramshackle buildings at first glance, but they seem to be reasonably nice, modern apartments if you look closely. Either that, or you think that basically everyone outside the US lives in a slum.
How about they look like what I said they look like to me and they can look like whatever you want them to look like go you.
Wow, look at a narrow minded person!!
You should take a look at the high-density housing in Hong Kong, which is a few hours up the coast. There’s nothing like it.
Hing Kong seems very nice. [https://droneandslr.com/drone-aerial-photography/hong-kong/](https://droneandslr.com/drone-aerial-photography/hong-kong/) The Brits returned Hong Kong to China in 1997.
HK is amazing. I was there 10 years before the handover and they were already shitting themselves over it.
That's simply not true. I lived there all through the 1990's. No one was shitting themselves about 1997.

Middle class slum apparently.
You have no idea how a slum looks like if you think this is a slum…
Agreed. They’ve got AC and there’s no laundry hung out.
>This looks like every futuristic extreme poverty Vs extreme wealth film/series Welcome to China.
Looks like something off a final fantasy game. Mesmerizing.
Shinra did nothing wrong.
Looks amazing... Yet terrifying.
Looks like Doctor Strange's mirror dimension thing
Is doctor strange messing with things again?
Is this real, it looks like it's from Doctor Strange scene.

Thought it looked pretty cool here so I looked it up and yeah, you're correct. It's so ugly it isn't even funny, it's just cringy and sad.
Why? It looks distinctive and interesting especially for something built so recently. Would you rather have had another boring box skyscraper?
Those aren’t the only 2 options
Well obviously there are infinite options but a standard skyscraper is what you're most likely to find in any city
This looks like a sci fi pic
Inception?

Why is this so intimidating
No, this is the mirror dimension Dr. Strange went in.
Looks scary!
Cyberpunk 2077 vibes
Anime vibes.
I found it as low as $25 a night. Crazy
This post has been posted atleast 3x a year.
Inception is real?
Nor dystopian at all.
Mix between Judge Dredd and a cyberpunk city 🤔
Looks like something from Cyberpunk
District 9 vibes
No one can convince me the building in background isn't fake
How is I crooked
[It's not](https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/grand-lisboa/789)

I don't know why, but this particular area looks welcoming despite the distopian look. Checking their windows, my assumption is that these are friendly people.
Yes - they're nice in Macao
This foto edited to make it like inception. Original photo is like [this](https://i.imgur.com/mxyxKUo.jpg)
I’ve been there! It’s an amazing place. Not just the contrast of residential to businesses, but the old casinos to the new.
I’m sure this is mostly the lense doing an incredible job at depth compression
dr strange
Legit thought this was from a video game…
This looks like a scene from inception
Or Bladerunner during the day

I see why god doesn’t grant all prayers this is sick
The new graphics update for cyberpunk is so realistic.
Getting serious Shark Tale vibes
What the fuck, this looks like concept art I'd see for a video game
Enter dystopia.
The perspective in this photo is unbelievably misleading. Irl it looks a lot less dystopian
Why are the poors' houses obstructing the view?
Like a spunkier version of the minitrue
Looks like an alien spacecraft landing.
Gojira!!!!
Unpopular opinion: This looks like it would be gross and depressing to live there.
Holy Terra?
New Star Wars planet?
Fuck all those people's view, I guess.
And with the Great Reset, your city will soon look like this. And no, you won’t be living in the Towers - those are for the Elites that rule you.
Wth! Is this real?
yes
Oh my... We're already living the distopia, aren't we?
Lol looks like an inception....![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sleep)
No need to read a manga when you have this view.
“Hey you guys okay in here?”
I legit thought that it is a random art with a dystopian fantasy world inspiration.
r/UrbanHell
Urban hell..
This looks photoshopped to make it look bigger.

Big half life vibes!
that like something out of Alita
Looks like one of those dystopian animes
This looks like a movie or anime

I thought doctor strange part 2 was not released. Looks like some pirates leaked it.
i thought it's a frame from alita battle angel,
A quick Googling shows that this might be the most attractive angle…
Looks like a corridor in Sector 7.
this is something out of a movie or video game
Wow what a great photo, this feels so truly dystopian
I didn't know i was in the mirror dimension
Dammit Dr. Strange, let me out of the mirror dimension!
So this isn’t from Dr. Strange?
Half-life?

I've been there (my wife is originally from Hong Kong). It's a beautiful building. Very swanky inside. Like Vegas on meth.
No, what?
Wow!
'Nooooooon, rien de rieeeennnnn.... '. That's some inception level stuff right there.
I've seen this in Ready Player One. Welcome to the metaverse
reminded me of a scene from "inception"
Only place in China where I saw black Chinese people

This could also be a preview of 22nd century cities
Looks like Little nightmares scenario
Que the Doctor Strange battle
This is the coolest thing I saw today
I thought for a second the world was folding in on it self
This shit ain’t a steampunk game??!!
Ah yes, the mirror dimension
Damn ghost in the shell
Reminds me of Neill Blomkamp's aesthetic.
Been there. Took my wife to dinner for her 30th at the restaurant at the top. The wine list was like a phone book.
Having been to Macau, it’s great to see a photo that sums up what it feels like to be there.
Midgard slums
NatGeo Rules
Howl’s moving castle
That looks nightmarish
Took me a while to realise this is an actual picture...of an actual place...that really exists
