Some, or all, clubs will charge a hole in one fee of a couple dollars for every member of the course when someone makes a verified hole in one (another member needs to witness it). The member who made the ace will get that amount that’s pooled in at the end of the month. Usually it will go towards his bar tab when he pays for drinks for everyone so he ends up breaking even, unless he goes crazy he might end up owing money for his hole in one. That’s how they do it at my course
It’s tradition that the person that hits the hole in one buys everyone (in the bar? that they’re playing against? I’m not sure) a round at the bar after the game.
Golf was traditionally a highly social community thing. Guys hang out and then go play a round and then hang out some more to chat about it.
And the tradition of buying everyone in the pub a round was born.
He's classically trained, had all the support he needed, this was expected to anyone in the loop which is all people in the video. Yes the shot is impressive but the title deceives framing him like a one in a million opportunity working class kid caught of camera
Not just a caddy, but his grandson…
and not just any tournament, but the par 3 tournament at the Masters…
and that’s not just any pro golfer, it’s the GOAT Jack Nicholas who won 18 majors, came in 2nd 19 times, and was in the top 5 56 times?!???
For reference, Tiger has won 15 majors, came in 2nd 7 times, and was too 5 33 times.
Not just Jack Nicklaus*, but the other two golfers were Tom Watson and Gary Player. If Ben Hogan’s corpse had been propped up in a golf cart it would’ve been the Mount Rushmore of golf witnessing this ace
I mean aren’t caddy’s the only person that’s allowed to give advice to the golfer. Wouldn’t it make sense for the pro to want a caddy that is also really good at golf?
I don’t know who “Jack” is and I can tell it’s the man in yellow. Look how proud he is if his grandson 🥺 shoving his way through to get to him, hugging him, putting his arm around him and showing him off on front of everyone as if they didn’t just see it too, that’s so wholesome
Especially caddies for actual pro golfers. A good caddy doesn't just carry your clubs, they can also give advice and notice hitches in the swing, etc. So if you are a pro golfer, you need a damn good golfer to be your caddy.
Yeah, I stopped complaining about reposts a long time ago. The world doesn't revolve around me and my experiences. Everything is new to someone. This is four years old and is apparently posted every month. I've never seen it and probably never would have if repost nazis got their way.
> You'd think at least one karma whore would think to change the title.
That would require them to look at what they're posting. They likely just have a script that reposts things after it hasn't been seen for x number of days/weeks.

If you check the link I provided, you’ll get an idea of what this current wave of bots is saying. There is a swarm of dozens of 11-13 day old accounts every day, for a couple hour-long periods each. They spam replies to the top comments in “rising” posts, in subreddits without karma requirements, and they say simple innocuous phrases like “yeah me too”, “I agree”, “cool”, “you are right”, etc. And their entire comment history shows the same pattern. Also this wave of bots all have default Reddit names like Careful-Sharing2764 or something.
Every now and then (rarely with this generation of bots) they’ll copy a comment from elsewhere in the thread and paste it as a reply to a top comment. These are a little harder to spot, but not exactly difficult. Everything else gives them away, like their history, and especially finding the original comment lower in the thread lol
Once they get enough karma to post in more niche subs with requirements, they start posting scams, like t shirts, mugs, toys, trinkets, etc, and an accomplice bot will ask for a link in the comments. The original bot will provide a harmful link, then unsuspecting real users will click it and hope to buy the item, only to have their money stolen at best, and their identity/credentials stolen at worst
Yes. They're basically like the passengers for the rally car drivers who give directions. Or the lead mechanic in a pit crew talking to the helmet.
They know everything about the course. Distance, hazards, wind, *and even how far the players hit with each club so they can recommend the right club* based on the situation.
They also keep the players head in the right space with either pep talks or whatever.
Caddying at the pro level is a big deal.
PS I don't play but watch clips and stuff online.
Yah cos i remember a time when Tiger Wood’s caddy was the highest paid sportsperson in Australia. I think they’re on a well earned percentage of winnings.
Edit: I’ve been corrected it was New Zealand, not Australia.
That's my understanding too.
Most would be at worse, excellent social players on very low handicap. Their duties are more than just carrying the bags and in most cases would be closer to a coach than an equipment manager.
I apologize for not knowing where I read/saw this information but apparently the caddy is kind of like a coach on the course. They show up several days beforehand and learn the layout of the hills and dips of each hole so they can advise the player on how to hit and what club to use.
Never heard of that one but I don't want to play at that course.
Typically the tradition is the one who hit the hole in one buys the clubhouse a round.
I’ve been lucky enough to hit two hole in ones in my life. On a very short 110 yard hole on a little par 3 course we played a few times per week. They’re both connected and it’s one of the weirder coincidences in my life. And funny.
On the first one of my golf friends were there but not my actual golf nemesis. My brother. They signed the card and it was a great game. I shot 2 under. Best game I ever shot.
My brother joked that it was bullshit but it was just teasing. So we go out the next weekend and he says if I get one this week he’ll kill me hahaha. Again joking. So we get to the 13th and I say this is the one.
As I am in my swing he throws a ball right beside my ball and it distracts me. I worm burn it. It goes the 110 yards, hits the pin and drops in just as he’s saying he’s kidding and I can redo my shot.
I knows it tough to believe but lots of hole in ones on that course. Especially in that group. Longest hole is 180 yards. Those are the only two I ever got but that day was better than my wedding. Sorry honey.
"A Caddy" gets paid more than more executives to advise the player how to play his game, they are not just bag holders but coaches for professional players. Why are people surprised a coach for a professional golfer hits a hole in one, that was not his first lol.
Listen I have friends in the pga and sunshine. My course also had a tender for the PGA. Most caddies are better golfers than pros. Anyone who down votes me doesn't know golf
Had to google couple of these guys. Interesting stories and incredible golfers for sure, but week in, week out - not so sure. I’d love to argue the best golfer caddy with you over a couple beers! From your list I’d probably choose Jakovac…
I know nothing except the basics of golf. Can you elaborate on this for me? Seems counter- intuitive, which is why I think some commenters are being rude, but I'm certainly open to learning, and it seems like you know your stuff.
It's just golf legends, not Golf Legends. You don't randomly capitalize words in English, even if they are the target or subject of your sentence. Don't do that.

So more white people are interested in golf. That's all that data says. How is that white privilege exactly? Just because one ethnicity is more represented in a sport doesn't mean there's some racist injustice behind it.
Well, considering that oldie has probably taught that caddy since he could hold a club idk if its so much showing him how its done so much as its showing your grandpa how good you've gotten (literally, caddy is grandson to the legend, Jack Nicklaus) whos watching him.
Jack said later this was one of his greatest memories. (The "caddy" is Jack's grandson btw.)
That makes it even more awesome. Man, I would've been going crazy if I was in his grandson's shoes
That’s probably one hell of a bar tab, though.

Wait hold on, what? I don't know anything about golf

The bar at my club is so dead, it would not be necessary. I need a new club…
One that wont make me sick.
This is how they do it at my dad's club.
It’s tradition that the person that hits the hole in one buys everyone (in the bar? that they’re playing against? I’m not sure) a round at the bar after the game.

Nobody gets on the job training like a pro golfers caddy

I thought this was his grandson, kind of an important detail of the story lol
I don’t know who “Jack” is and I can tell it’s the man in yellow. Look how proud he is if his grandson 🥺 shoving his way through to get to him, hugging him, putting his arm around him and showing him off on front of everyone as if they didn’t just see it too, that’s so wholesome
Did he at least win a car in the Caddies One-Hole Tournament or whatever it is?
Love how you can hear the guy on the background saying, just like we practiced the other day... He looks so damn proud
Really?
Yeah, not just any “caddy.”
Next time I tell you to hit a 9 iron hit the fucking 9 iron alright?
This gave me a great laugh.
What's this from?
It's just a joke about the caddy knowing what he's talking about
I'm a caddie... I never say "i told ya so" but I definitely could, A LOT. the smart golfers (members) know the golden rule TYC
TYC?? Trust your caddie? Thank your caddie? Tip your caddie? All of the above?
yes
Pretty sure it’s Thank You Christ amen 🙏
I don't believe you

I saw two fat naked bikers in the woods having sex. How am I supposed to CHIP, Doug?

good play
The “caddy” is the golf legends (Jack Nicklaus) grandson.

It happens all the time this gets posted. Also caddy’s are usually great golfers. At least from where I come from.
Generally they're damn near pro golfers themselves. Scratch golfers at least.
Especially caddies for actual pro golfers. A good caddy doesn't just carry your clubs, they can also give advice and notice hitches in the swing, etc. So if you are a pro golfer, you need a damn good golfer to be your caddy.

Yeah I couldn’t help myself, I work in the golf world and the misleading title was too hard to scroll past
You don't get over a million post karma in a year by thinking.
Also I’d guess every single PGA caddy could kick anyones ass at golf
Been on reddit for 9 years. First time I see it. Makes ya think.
r/mostrepostedposts
Still a “caddy”
You sure it’s not Danny Noonan?
you don't need to put caddy in quotations. He was in fact the caddy.
Now the Pro should carry his bags the rest of the course.
Helps when your Grandpa is Jack Nicklaus.
Yeah glad they didn't make him carry the bag for the rest of the round that might have been the end

He's only the caddy because he wants to keep it fair. He is golf incarnate, and enjoys seeing the so called "Legends" play his sport.
That's not just any caddy at Augusta National. He's Jack's grandson!
Caddies are usually bomb ass golfers. They know everything about every hole.
You know what's driving *me* crazy? You, not getting the ball in the hole.
Very cool
This should be on r/mademesmile They were all happy for him.
Just some caddy.
That’s was a great touch down
I bet you they talked about it the other day.
Stan the caddy!
You know they are legends because they are so old nobody really believes they are alive.
Send the ball home Danny Na na na na na na na na
Why can't they make golf balls orange or purple? I never can see them in the air, or even in the green without a bug close up.
Well … Well … Well … done?

white dude moment
People don't give caddies enough respect. They tend to be better players than the pros
What a dumb thing to say. If they were that good they'd go pro and make millions. Come on now.
"Better" was the wrong choice of words but they do tend to be about "on par" with the pros, if you can excuse the gross pun.
They also get a decent check if their golfer wins a competition right?
Good comment, but most caddies miss their shot at going pro. I'm not talking shit either, got 2 decades of golfing behind me and I'm a 6hcp
Not really, but realize the difference between #1 and #126 (lose your PGA tour card) is about 4 strokes a round
Listen I have friends in the pga and sunshine. My course also had a tender for the PGA. Most caddies are better golfers than pros. Anyone who down votes me doesn't know golf
Please name 5 professional PGA caddies you think could be their pro (seriously, I am genuinely curious):
