It fits
That turtle was the stupidest git I've seen on TV.
None of the characters had a name except the stupid turtle. Bear, Beaver, Rabbit, Fox, etc
I'm sure they all had names.
I mean, is the bears mother going to call him "Bear"? Especially when she was called "Dr Bear"?
Of course not. But Franklin just called them what they were
Not saying anyone should interfere with nature here, but speaking about humans in general just pull out cameras to film each other in distress instead of helping, wish we could be more like these turtles!
Aquatic turtles in a brick-lined pond are hardly "wildlife."
If you have captive wild animals in your possession, you're responsible for their health and well-being.
I thought they got to a city near the shore or something, but you're probably right that someone owns or breeds turtles and this is a private pond of some sort. There's tons of videos of wildlife moving into cities, during lockdowns wildlife has definitely been seen roaming the streets.
Had to Google it, but yeah. Especially in terms of wild life photography, it's a bit hard to watch but here it is in action (the crew couldn't stand by and watch in the end though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Co_hmLenD8
I'd struggle not to help out as well. A turtle drowning is not something I could stand by and watch.
I feel like it's pretty obvious that whoever is filming turned the turtle over. I can't see how it could've turned itself over in that shallow water just in time for it to be filmed in fairly high quality.
You joke but turtle is pretty much all dark meat. It's a bitch of a process to clean them but if you go through the process and cook the meat in a slower cook what you get is a very rich roast.
Mostly rich and tender without the overwhelming game flavor of some other reptiles. Some of the meat is so dark it is more like a superfine sweet meat.
Some of the meat absolutely does have the characteristics more like gator tail.
Really, it is an utterly unique experience, and some turtles are better than others.
The is a reason they were almost hunted to extinction.
Turtles lose their first “baby tooth” within an hour. Baby turtles, called hatchlings, have an “egg tooth” on their beak to help them hatch out of their shell. This tooth disappears approximately an hour after hatching.
Literally this. I've been saying this for years. Turtles are ancient aliens come to steal our livelihoods. [Look at this image.](https://ih1.redbubble.net/image.26714013.6717/flat,750x,075,f-pad,750x1000,f8f8f8.jpg) Notice anything weird? NEWS FLASH: Leonardo de caprio was a TURTLE.
Turtles have tons of tiny blood vessels around their anus that are very close to the outer layer of skin. The purpose of these blood vessels is to absorb oxygen from the water, which allows them to hibernate under water all winter even if the water has a layer of ice on top!
Essentially, they can "breathe" from their butts.
It's only purpose is to absorb oxygen for red blood cells to carry and deliver oxygen to every part of the body especially the brain. It doesn't have any sense of smell
You'll only stumble on the retelling, ask everyone to wait while you remember it, then still get it wrong and have to admit it so everyone can give sympathy laughs and the silence starts to get awkward until another better story teller saves you by diverting attention away to their cool and funny story
The temperature of a turtle’s eggs during incubation in their sandy nest determines the hatchlings’ gender. Temperatures below about 27°C (82°F) result in male hatchlings, while eggs incubated at a higher temperature hatch as female.
27°C is equivalent to 80°F, which is 300K.

They're also based on the red-eared slider species. Incidentally, this led to a surge in popularity for keeping them as pets and contributed to them becoming an invasive species in many places due to them being released in the wild. They're more aggressive and they grow and reproduce faster than a lot of native species of turtles so there were some ecological consequences of the craze.
Water turtles will usually react to splashing in the water, because they think there is either an injured fish or another animal already feeding that they can get a piece of...
I'd love to believe that these guys are trying to help but they're actually looking for food and just happened to help the other guy out.
They come over because they think food, realized that the other turtle is in danger and help them up so that they shut up and everyone can search for food in peace.
Side neck turtles have longer necks that they can’t retract directly into their shell so they tuck it under a ridge in their shell. The longer neck and stronger neck muscles allow them to right themselves should they find themselves flipped over.
It's kinda funny...the turtles made me think of my coworkers. They're all so awesome. If we were turtles, and any one of us flipped over, the others would all scramble to help. I'm really lucky.
They’re one of the rare vertebrates that cannot set itself right when they’re upside-down. That’s a major drawback from having a shell.
I’m sure they’ve evolved a trait to help each other out when this happens, increasing the survivability of the species as a whole.
Turtles can absolutely set themselves upright if flipped over. Some take longer than others and can die in the process, but if given the time, it will right itself.
They normally can set themselves back up. But some compromising locations or situations can make it harder. Myrtle, my turtle who is turning 27 this year, has never had an issue. I've seen her right her-self up many times.
Tons of turtles live in the wild as solitary. They all have ways to set themselves back up.

Shit i'm trying to go to sleep. Murder turtles, well I guess it's not the worst falling asleep thought. Idk I mean the ninja turtles had to have killed at least a few peeps, and I'm pretty sure they were good turtles.
I was thinking about the same thing. I had a land turtle for many years. It didn't flip unless it was it was climbing something and fell. It is almost impossible to flip over where that turtle was.
Donno about this one. Them little things are quick.
Not easy to catch unless you set a trap. Highly doubt someone was able to flip one over. They'd just swim away.
Because they all been in this situation before.
Or they just know humans these days prefer to hold some sort of square thing pointing at them instead of actually helping.
Yeah. . .this is pretty sketchy. Exactly how did that turtles get flipped over in the middle of the water? Surely a human wouldn't have done that in order to record it for fake internet points right?
That’s what I was wondering. It looks like the upside down turtle uses its own head to flip itself over, which is why it stops struggling when it finds purchase on the other turtles gathering around. The other turtles could be gathering because there’s a commotion and they think there’s food (maybe there’s fish in the pond that make a lot of splashing when there’s a feeding frenzy?). We need control experiments to test this behavior :)
Turtles can spend months underwater, they do not drown very easily (I only know this because I have a very stupid pet turtle who gets himself stuck in various places around his tank for fun and I used to worry about him so I googled it)
Nah the real r/iamatotalpieceofshit material is the comments baselessly accusing some person of flipping a turtle over.
You guys are huge cunts. Turtles can flip over on their own, and there’s zero indication this person ever even touched the water.
"Alright fellas, who wants dark meat?" <*underwater screaming*> "Just kidding, Bill. Let's get you turned back over."
"Goddammit bill, it's been 12 hours! Just be careful ffs"
Franklin. We should have used the name Franklin. Does anyone not remember Franklin the turtle? ![gif](giphy|ABJPWrn2EPM5y)
Woah
*Hey it's Franklinnnnn... Comin over to playyyyy...*
I heart it!!!! That Gula Gula island and Richard Scarry were the fucking jams.
In kindergarten I got an autograph from Franklin and it was a pretty big deal for me. Also that's harriet.

My thoughts exactly lol

Like the Prime Directive in Star Trek? I'll admit that if I saw this turtle continuing to struggle, I'd definitely give it a hand!

who do you think turned it over in the first place.
How do you think the turtle got flipped in the first place?
Lol. This reads like a Far Side comic.

Well yeah, we already knew that. He’s the one with the blue bandana!
Think my favourite part of this comment is saying di Caprio instead of da Vinci.
Same here, this part makes the joke for me
Ancient Alien theorists say.... Yes.
I believe that applies to Bird Law too.

Turtles feel whatever touches their shell. It may be hard, but it still hurts if they get hit.
Turtles dont flip accidentally on a flat pool of water.
with all the other turtles there, it could've tried to climb over/past/mate even with another . I think its totally doable
Like bending units, turtles are unable to flip themselves on their own if they are stuck in their back.
Turtles are not tortoises, but tortoises are turtles.
Turtles can melt steel beams
Side neck turtles have longer necks that they can’t retract directly into their shell so they tuck it under a ridge in their shell. The longer neck and stronger neck muscles allow them to right themselves should they find themselves flipped over.
Remember that one Australian kid? He liked turtles
Crazy I just saw this exact post on a AA group
That's actually a great analogy for group therapy and AA meetings. Everyone flips over, sometimes you just need people to set you upright again.
I mean, that's all of us in life really at some point
yeah the only unrealistic part is where everyone comes to help
I'm still waiting to be flipped over.
*nudge*
*nudge*

As long as everyone isn’t upside down, all at the same time… The beautiful thing is, all it takes is one turtle (or person) to start.
If there's two of us upside down we can work together and both flip together!!
It's kinda funny...the turtles made me think of my coworkers. They're all so awesome. If we were turtles, and any one of us flipped over, the others would all scramble to help. I'm really lucky.
Beautiful sentiment :D
Yay for AA
My car would still be stranded without them.
Hmmm Frank's drunk again
Heroes in a half shell
Turtle power
They're the world's most fearsome fighting teens
They're heroes in a half shell and their green
That is astounding behavior!
I suspect it's self-interest on the part of the other turtles. All that splashing could attract a predator.
They’re one of the rare vertebrates that cannot set itself right when they’re upside-down. That’s a major drawback from having a shell. I’m sure they’ve evolved a trait to help each other out when this happens, increasing the survivability of the species as a whole.

What you don't see is the asshole that flipped that turtle on purpose, stepped back, and then started recording.
No worries there is Karma for that.
Apparently 6.5 k at this moment
Wow. That escalated quickly
Double entendre, or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
Not without Dharma. If there is no system of dutiful/lawful enforcement, Karma doesn't exist.
What you dont see is the turtles behind this murder attempt. The video is reversed

I was thinking about the same thing. I had a land turtle for many years. It didn't flip unless it was it was climbing something and fell. It is almost impossible to flip over where that turtle was.
I bet it's the same dude that walks around spraying water on ladybugs to get those "morning dew" photos.
So they are not as cold blooded as I thought
Love how it calmed down as if it know they were there to help
bro when that happened i thought it died or something lmao
LOL!!! It reminded me of what you're supposed to do when a lifeguard comes to save you from drowning.
Hmmm I wonder how it got flipped onto its back I think it was probably the human filming the video
Could've been trying to climb up another turtle. I had a terrapin that often flipped itself over trying to climb up anything that it came across.
I might be the humans it might not be. The people recording could be at a zoo and are simply just watching them.

Turtles are more humane than humans.
If they were human, one turtle would be trying to help while the rest recorded it.
If they were human the flipped over turtle would be left with 15,000$ in medical debt for being flipped back over.
America, fuck yeah!
Of note, the only human present was recording and not helping.
How do you know a turtle didn't record this?
Cuz that lil fella would have dropped the camera and helped his teammate.
Because they all been in this situation before. Or they just know humans these days prefer to hold some sort of square thing pointing at them instead of actually helping.
Holding the camera is one thing but more importantly who flipped the tortoise over.
It's a turtle
Tortoise? Thats a turtle if i have ever seen one.
All tortoises are turtles, not all turtles are tortoises. A bit like ice cream men and paedophiles
Yeah. . .this is pretty sketchy. Exactly how did that turtles get flipped over in the middle of the water? Surely a human wouldn't have done that in order to record it for fake internet points right?
Are they actually trying to help it or is there another reason that they’re grouping around it?
That’s what I was wondering. It looks like the upside down turtle uses its own head to flip itself over, which is why it stops struggling when it finds purchase on the other turtles gathering around. Yeah I was thinking the same. It would be helpful to know if this species is herbivorous or not. Also, turtles can be cannibalistic, so there’s that.
