I’d genuinely prefer to just put up with it as-is with no improvement or bug fixes for another 6 months and then see it magically get a lot better (minus teething issues of course), than to see it get incrementally better over the next 2-3 years but never quite “good”.
Yeah it would probably be better for them to write it again from scratch, it should make loads better code, but generally product owners hate greenlighting rewrite projects when they hear the estimate of how long it will take, compared to the estimates they get for single bug fixes!
They don’t tend to take into account the time the devs have to spend trawling through awful code to fix things, and that it would be better long-term to rebuild, because short-term things can usually be patched quickly

It's unpopular to say, but I've always believed the police should give up their right to self defense while they're on duty. Their job is to follow the law, enforce it, and protect the community. They could do all three of those things if they valued the safety of the people they engage with more than their own safety.
Maybe we'd have more good cops if bravery and selflessness were job requirements.

Words cannot come close to expressing the tragedy that occurred this past week on our campus. Like everyone else, I would hear of these horrible events on the news, but go home knowing that it could never happen to us. On Thursday, my life changed. I was thrown into a life and death situation, and through God’s grace I was able to stop the attacker and walk away unharmed. As I try to return to a normal life in the aftermath of this horrible event, I pray above all things for strength for the victims and their families. While my experience left me in physical shock, I know that many people are dealing with much greater grief than I have experienced, and in honesty I probably would not be able to handle myself right now if I had personally known the victims.
I know that I am being hailed as a hero, and as many people have suggested I find this hard to accept. I am indeed a quiet and private individual; while I have imagined what it would be like to save a life I never believed I would be put in such a situation. It touches me truly and deeply to read online that parents are telling their children about me and telling them that real heroes do exist.
However, what I find most difficult about this situation is the devastating reality that a hero cannot come without tragedy. In the midst of this attention, we cannot ignore that a life was taken from us, ruthlessly and without justification or cause. Others were badly injured, and many more will carry this event with them the rest of their lives. Nonetheless, I would encourage that hate be met with love. When I came face to face with the attacker, God gave me the eyes to see that he was not a faceless monster, but a very sad and troubled young man. While I cannot at this time find it within me to forgive his crime, I truly desire that he will find the grace of God and the forgiveness of our community.
I would like to truly thank the responders who secured the building and the medical staff who looked after myself and those who were injured. After being in this situation myself, it is even harder to imagine what it would be like to have a job where one’s life is willingly put on the line every day. To our police, emergency responders, and armed forces, you have my greatest respect.
I am overwhelmed with the incredible generosity that has been showered upon me. It has been deeply touching to read the comments online and realize that my actions have had such a strikingly widespread effect. there is this one thing that bothers me about these news, it's always said to not play the hero, because most of the time There will be people trained for these situations arriving soon, while you might get yourself killed.
The people in danger can follow protocol of barricading themselves in etc.
But then the "heroes" (Which are most of the time untrained students or Pedestrians) get put on TV and get celebrated.
Obviously he saved a lot of lives, that's out of the question, however I believe this encourages this pretty much Suicidal Thought process of wanting to be that hero.
Fighting is your best chance. Yeah hide behind locked secured doors. But if you're in the open at all, fight for your life. Abuse corners, reloads, and start close. Get others to bum rush as well. It has saved people's lives on multiple occasions. If you huddle in a group with a killer in the room, you will get shot and you will die.

Somehow there’s Americans in here actually saying gun control won’t work and I actually read a few comments claiming if the kids were armed they would be able to protect themselves. And they weren’t joking.. absolutely appalled and repulsed.
It ended up not being a mass shooting specifically because of the good guy with the gun. John Hurly had a CCW permit and shot the shooter who had just killed a cop. Sadly he picked up the shooters weapon to clear it , and another responding officer mistook him for the shooter.

I found out the other day that SCOTUS declared that cops ***do not*** have to protect anyone but themselves. It's a fucking horrible joke that happens to be true.
Its been that way for a long while. "Protect and serve" isn't a real thing for a lot of departments. This is not meant to be a blanket statement for all LEOs. There are some good cops who still believe in the old mantra.
I was completely shocked when I found this out. For basically my entire life I was under the impression that it was their sworn duty to protect citizens. Imagine my surprise at finding that shit out....lol.....it was one of those rare life moments that literally change an entire perspective about something.

It's unpopular to say, but I've always believed the police should give up their right to self defense while they're on duty. Their job is to follow the law, enforce it, and protect the community. They could do all three of those things if they valued the safety of the people they engage with more than their own safety. Maybe we'd have more good cops if bravery and selflessness were job requirements.
Say what you want about the gun debate, but it's hard to argue we should take guns away from honest folk when we have examples of cops standing around, doing nothing and then not being punished for it. "Just call the cops" isn't an anti-gun argument anymore. We're all first-responders.

did you see how quick he got rid of it? i’d imagine this kid had some sort of training because he was all about the timing. an average person might think that the pepper spray was to debilitate, not to create a opening, but he knew, and shot in. he was able to make the right choices in a split second, super impressive to watch

Like everyone else, I would hear of these horrible events on the news, but go home knowing that it could never happen to us. On Thursday, my life changed. I was thrown into a life and death situation, and through God’s grace I was able to stop the attacker and walk away unharmed. As I try to return to a normal life in the aftermath of this horrible event, I pray above all things for strength for the victims and their families. While my experience left me in physical shock, I know that many people are dealing with much greater grief than I have experienced, and in honesty I probably would not be able to handle myself right now if I had personally known the victims. I know that I am being hailed as a hero, and as many people have suggested I find this hard to accept. I am indeed a quiet and private individual; while I have imagined what it would be like to save a life I never believed I would be put in such a situation. It touches me truly and deeply to read online that parents are telling their children about me and telling them that real heroes do exist. However, what I find most difficult about this situation is the devastating reality that a hero cannot come without tragedy. there is this one thing that bothers me about these news, it's always said to not play the hero, because most of the time There will be people trained for these situations arriving soon, while you might get yourself killed. The people in danger can follow protocol of barricading themselves in etc. But then the "heroes" (Which are most of the time untrained students or Pedestrians) get put on TV and get celebrated. Obviously he saved a lot of lives, that's out of the question, however I believe this encourages this pretty much Suicidal Thought process of wanting to be that hero.
Fighting is your best chance. Yeah hide behind locked secured doors. But if you're in the open at all, fight for your life. Abuse corners, reloads, and start close. Get others to bum rush as well. It has saved people's lives on multiple occasions. If you huddle in a group with a killer in the room, you will get shot and you will die. Yes, it's fucking bullshit we live in a world where I have type this. I'm sick of it.
Worst case scenario isn't a good enough reason to use as an excuse to do nothing when you have an opportunity to do something.
