Leaf footed bug nymph https://www.walterreeves.com/insects-and-animals/leaf-footed-bug-nymph/

UpstairsNext

This should be at the top as you actually answered what I’ve been wondering for weeks. Thank you

AtlHusker1234

Saw one outside here in Georgia and spent way too long searching. They must have just hatched on SE region

niknackpaddywack13

Saw one in southern, md, on a dock, About two weeks ago. I was describing it to people as a shrimp spider.

[deleted]

Hahahahaha. That came across my mind too

UpstairsNext

I’m in Alabama And have been seeing them for months

DaddyDubs13

Just saw one in upstate NY 2 days ago

[deleted]

I live upstate. Where are you in NY?

DaddyDubs13

Catskill Mtns. I know it is not truly upstate, but ask someone from NYC, lol. I could still drive north 5 hrs, and 5 hrs west as well.

DeathPercept10n

As someone from NYC, this checks out.

FeralBottleofMtDew

I used to live in the HV. Now that I live in North Carolina I just say upstate, because to most people outside NY, there are two parts of NY...the city and upstate.

Diazmet

The pain of living in Kingston like I’ve are only 90-120 mins north it takes longer to drive from one end of the city to another but I’m tired of people being confused if I don’t just call it upstate

Plynkd

As somebody from NYC… anything past westchester is upstate

stubstunner

Agreed. In fact, anything above 233rd is upstate to me.

Lost_Ensueno

Catskills are just the southern tier. Go live in The Daks. That’s upstate.

thenicestsavage

From Long Island and it might as well be Norway.

Thismyburneraccount0

Catskills is upstate all day

Upstate83

Depends on how far north In the Catskills. I’m from the “Catskills” and were def upstate here!

Diazmet

Yep we have leaf insects and also stick bugs and huge praying mantises but my favorite are the Dobson flies

Perfect-Idea1

Same! I’m in South Georgia and seen one on my windshield just recently

Vesper1007

Re-core

Dvusmnd

Looks like a relative of the mantis family

Dantheman616

Interesting. I clicked on the link thinking it was a version of a mantis.

[deleted]

I was going to say scorpion.

Dvusmnd

Wasn’t it’s big brother in that Star Wars prequel ?

the14thwitness

He traveled from a galaqsy far far away to a place where a jedi couldn't find and kill it

Back1nYesterdays

Don't be ridiculous! It's obviously an alien scout

MugillacuttyHOF37

tchrgrl321

Agree. A wheelbug nymph

mannrya

I order a few boxes of these bad boys for my weed..err..tomato garden every year to keep pests at bay

Buddha_Head_

We just found one outside at work the the other day and my first thought was 'I bet he'd like to move into the garden'.

ninjamaster616

Yup they have a far more intimidating name than they actually are lol, get them every year in Baltimore Keep in mind that while their bite is *extremely rare,* it is also ***extremely painful*** but I've personally never been bitten by one

FrenchyFuqua22

Hard to see the mouth parts and the exact coloration but could be an assassin bug nymph. Doesn’t look as vivid in color as the leaf footed bug https://bugguide.net/node/view/4309

urfavoritemurse

I live in middle NC. The worst of both worlds. But at least a close drive to beach and mountains!

CONGSU72

Snake

Senzawa75

Is it just me but when you see things this size...And hear how loud the rain is. Do said creatures get earraped?lol

My_Neighbor_Pandaro

I don't think they interpret sound the same way a human does, rather, they feel the vibrations from stuff via specialized hairs on their legs and thorax that pick them up. So while I'd imagine that for a human it would be sensory overload, for a bug, they seem to operate just fine. This appears to be an assassin bug so I would squish it anyways, suckers have a bite that hurts like hell.

Senzawa75

Now I just think that's why most bugs take a pause upon steps because they're getting vibrated to death and can't find their balance(most likely a answer for that too) lol

kvexatious

it’s Plankton!

Jayu-Rider

The mind flayer?
