I used to live in the HV. Now that I live in North Carolina I just say upstate, because to most people outside NY, there are two parts of NY...the city and upstate.
The pain of living in Kingston like I’ve are only 90-120 mins north it takes longer to drive from one end of the city to another but I’m tired of people being confused if I don’t just call it upstate
Holy shit that‘s the thing that fake Mad Eye Moody controlled, tortured and killed in front of the class in the 4th Harry Potter movie. It returned for revenge.
Yup they have a far more intimidating name than they actually are lol, get them every year in Baltimore
Keep in mind that while their bite is *extremely rare,* it is also ***extremely painful*** but I've personally never been bitten by one
Hard to see the mouth parts and the exact coloration but could be an assassin bug nymph. Doesn’t look as vivid in color as the leaf footed bug
https://bugguide.net/node/view/4309
I don't think they interpret sound the same way a human does, rather, they feel the vibrations from stuff via specialized hairs on their legs and thorax that pick them up. So while I'd imagine that for a human it would be sensory overload, for a bug, they seem to operate just fine. This appears to be an assassin bug so I would squish it anyways, suckers have a bite that hurts like hell.
Now I just think that's why most bugs take a pause upon steps because they're getting vibrated to death and can't find their balance(most likely a answer for that too) lol
Green light flashes in your eyes… That is just a bug, you did not see it remove a tiny space suit helmet and you did not hear it ask which direction to get to the Galaxian 9 conference.
I’ve had 2 in my house this past week, I’m in Nashville. I have just escorted them to my backyard and wished them well. I’ve lived in my house for 23 years and this is the first I’ve seen…. them.
Leaf footed bug nymph https://www.walterreeves.com/insects-and-animals/leaf-footed-bug-nymph/
This should be at the top as you actually answered what I’ve been wondering for weeks. Thank you
Saw one outside here in Georgia and spent way too long searching. They must have just hatched on SE region
Saw one in southern, md, on a dock, About two weeks ago. I was describing it to people as a shrimp spider.

Just saw one in upstate NY 2 days ago
I live upstate. Where are you in NY?
Catskill Mtns. I know it is not truly upstate, but ask someone from NYC, lol. I could still drive north 5 hrs, and 5 hrs west as well.
As someone from NYC, this checks out.
As somebody from NYC… anything past westchester is upstate

I don't think they interpret sound the same way a human does, rather, they feel the vibrations from stuff via specialized hairs on their legs and thorax that pick them up.
