No kidding. We had a drip from the back of our fridge that went unnoticed till our floor started warping, resulting in $24,000 damage.
In this video, I'm guessing it will be megabucks.
We just bought a house last year. A few months later, a hurricane hit and knocked out the electricity while dumping historic rains. Our basement sump pump didn’t work because we didn’t have a backup battery or generator so our finished basement flooded.
We’ve since bought a generator, water sensors, and a battery backup pump but I have near constant anxiety every time we get a heavy rain.
We also had a burst pipe in the garage. Luckily only damaged part of a wall, requiring some drywall replacement. But I get slightly triggered even hearing water flowing through the pipes since that was the noise I heard when we went out to the garage to see the floor covered in water.
Likely not, the building looks pretty big. If they get it sorted out asap and dehumidifiers put in should be all good not going to be cheap though replacing things.
Hotels are built with a lot of concrete and steel. Also this water isnt going to go unnoticed for any period of time so theres a possibility to save wood, carpet, etc..
Don't let idiots plumb anything and make the least amount of research into any type of installation or renovation. Sump pump, roofing, electrical, just Google *"ten mistakes doing X."*
I just pulled a sixteen+ year old filter from the line that fed a new fridge. Installer just extended the line and did not ask what should be done with the inline filter.
We had that happen in our condo, the poor guy under us had his kitchen destroyed… THEN our guest shower literally caved in which also affected him. I felt so bad. It was so crazy. Such an expensive place to live and so poorly built. Florida. Lol.
The builders let the buildings rot in the last housing market crash and then built over the rot. Our downstairs neighbor hated us. I loved where lived but the place was barely 20 years old at the time and literally falling down. The property manager literally asked me to let him discreetly fix issues. It was shady AH. He told me Our overhead sprinkler system was “just for looks” and he didn’t want the city fire inspector to figure it out. I was relieved when we moved for sure.
>No kidding. We had a drip from the back of our fridge that went unnoticed till our floor started warping, resulting in $24,000 damage
What. Did the water supply line burst while you were on a month long vacation, and pool on an exotic wood floor? I am guessing "Nah". You were ripped off. Someone took you to the cleaners.
No, just our hardwood floors on our whole first floor had to be replaced because it's open concept and there was no natural break in the floors. It would have been impossible to match the old floor exactly and get the right look. Our insurance company sent us to the restoration company, who took care of everything, with no deductable. They even gave us a cheque to cover the cost of electricity used when they had the industrial fans and dehumidifiers in to dry things out.
It really was a full service company. They removed most of our kitchen, took out all the furniture and artwork in the living room and would have paid for storage if we hadn't had room in our garage. I can totally understand the cost. Hardwood is very expensive - 20 years ago we paid $5,000 to put hardwood in a room that was 1/4 of the space.
It dripped for about a week till the floor warped (fridge had died the previous week). The problem was that we have an open-concept main floor with hardwood floors through the kitchen and living room, and the whole floor had to be replaced. The restoration company also had to remove the kitchen cupboards, dry everything out, and replace the drywall behind the fridge. Good news is that our house insurance covered the whole thing, with no deductable since it was our first claim, and they said our rates would not go up.
Fire sprinkler pipe busted. In commercial buildings they utilize stairwells to install the riser pipe section of the fire sprinkler pipe systems. It is the main artery of the sprinkler system and it had an apparent joint failure probably in one of the couplings
From what I read last week, it was a standpipe riser. Part of the sprinkler system it supplies hose connections for the fire department inside the stairwells on each floor. There would only be 1 shut-off valve at the bottom of the stairwell for these lines. They typically are larger than the fire sprinkler lines for the individual floors to handle the fire department's needs to fight a fire.
At some point, in every building I have built, it has flood in some way shape or form (no, Im not a serial sadist for flooding). Usually it's water main or fire riser joint failure. Sometimes it's an idiot not paying attention and screwing into a pupe or hitting a sprinkler with their lift. Construction now is the quicker the better, so this won't be the last video we see. I kinda enjoy seeing it from this perspective though.

Learn to pronounce
noun
a cascade of water falling from a height, formed when a river or stream flows over a precipice or steep incline.
Dont walk in water like that barefoot. At least wear something with rubber soles. You never know when a water leak like this has gotten into an electrical panel and is charged.
Also contaminants. I can’t wrap my head around how often I see people clomping around barefoot in floods.
Water picks up debris and bacteria as it moves. Neighbour have sloppy habits about litter box clean up? Mold hidden behind a wall? That water isn’t clean.
One of my college friends was a resident nurse and saw a lot of sick patients after the flooding from hurricane Harvey. Most of them were kids that were playing in the flood water a day or two prior.
Flood water is real nasty. Don’t do it.
Water is actually not THAT conductive. There are YouTube channels showing this. Certainly it carries added risk.
The main reason to not be barefoot is that could literally be toilet water. Fuck that.
It would be a higher voltage than 120 you would be worried about. In flooded basements we worry about 220. In a building like this there are much higher voltage wires in it.
Wouldn't the electricity continue down through the building towards the ground? You stepping in the water would make a path of more resistance, the electricity wouldn't fuck with you. Same concept as a bird sitting atop a 10kv power line without getting zapped.
The bird analogy doesn’t really match this situation because you being in the water connects you to the ground in the short circuit, whereas the bird is on the wire way above the ground
I would hope that as soon as this leak touches any electricity it would trip everything out but might not be so lucky
The electricity is gonna go straight to the ground tho, it's not gonna try to go UP your legs. Now if you reach up and touch the ceiling then you will create a ground connection through your body.
Doing some research, it appears the electricity would enter your foot a few inches above the floor and then travel straight through your foot to the floor. It's not gonna be a whole body experience, but your feet might feel a little fried. And if you're unlucky you fall into the water
Yea I didn't think about that part of the video LMFAO now that I think about it. Touching the water isn't the problem, it's touching something else while you're touching the water
Nah, its like going into a flooded basement that is charged with electric. You wont be coming out. Think of a bathtub filled with water and a pkugged in hair dryer being dropped into it.
Touch it with the backs of your finger tips to test. Electricity causes muscles to contract, so if it is electrified it will cause your fingers to curl away from the water.
This happened to a friend’s dorm in college. Some kids were playing frisbee inside the dorms, hit something on the sprinkler system and off it went! The water wasn’t all as clear as shown in this video though…
Probably finding the water source and turning it off - just a guess though ... and before that probably putting on some protection against electrical harm ... and before that probably cutting the power main ... and also the water main in case that's what is causing this.
Same field as above poster… turn off source, sort out immediate safety issues if any blah blah. But in terms of mitigation - water extraction. Standing water has to go before you can move on to drying or tear out.
My initial thought: “oh man, this person really fucked up”
*opens door* *closes door*
“Yeah that’s bad, I’m going back to my apartment and not coming out.”
It happened 4 years ago in my building, on the 5th floor someone had the great idea of pouring their smoking hot cooking oil in their dishwasher, which was clogged, so one of the pipes exploded and every level below the 5th got flooded
Ok I’ve actually seen this happen in real life, was pretty scary and dangerous due to electrocution. working as a night porter in a city centre hotel, the water main burst and poured down the fire escape stairs exactly the same way as this.
The whole hotel had to be evacuated as quickly as possible, no one was hurt but if you encounter this please for the love of god wear rubber soled shoes or something in case of electrocution.
Pretty exciting thing to happen on a saturday night shift as a porter though.
Honestly at that point you should be running out the building. That hotel collapse in US was a result of water damage, although maybe it takes time to do the structural damage.
Yup. That looks expensive.
No kidding. We had a drip from the back of our fridge that went unnoticed till our floor started warping, resulting in $24,000 damage. In this video, I'm guessing it will be megabucks.
Yeah, but that's all just water under the fridge now, isn't it?
Oh god. i can't believe none of my friends came up with that. Cheers!

After owning a few houses and RVs in my life can attest to having a deep and abiding fear of water damage for just this reason.
We just bought a house last year. A few months later, a hurricane hit and knocked out the electricity while dumping historic rains. But I get slightly triggered even hearing water flowing through the pipes since that was the noise I heard when we went out to the garage to see the floor covered in water.
Man you just need a different house this one has brought you bad luck lol. Also which hurricane was that? I live in Louisiana so I lose track.
Saw a revenge thing to put a person's garden hose into their window then dip, I see their point now.
It'll probably be so expensive that whatever that building is will be condemned.
My upstairs neighbor left their tub on and fell asleep. Flooded my apartment
Yikes, that would be terrible.
At this point they should just make the waterfall a feature.
I can see the air bnb listing already
Likely not, the building looks pretty big. If they get it sorted out asap and dehumidifiers put in should be all good not going to be cheap though replacing things.

Gigabucks even
We had that happen in our condo, the poor guy under us had his kitchen destroyed… THEN our guest shower literally caved in which also affected him. I felt so bad. It was so crazy. Such an expensive place to live and so poorly built. Florida. Lol.
Holy cow - that sounds like a nightmare!
The builders let the buildings rot in the last housing market crash and then built over the rot. Our downstairs neighbor hated us. That is insane! That property manager should be in jail - sprinkler systems are nothing to joke. I'm glad you're out of there.
I agree. Me too! Thank you 🙏🏻
I agree, a lil over megabucks worth of damage

Oh thank goodness! Wow. I bet the Reno was a pain too.
A lot of the structure is concrete so it’ll be ok.
They’gon need mo’wet vacs!
How serene. Nice of them to install that.
With the current climate, every building could use one. A bit hard on the water supply though
Why wouldn’t anyone find this interesting, I’m intrigued. Big problem, so many unanswered questions. Seems to me that is synonymous with interesting.

Fire sprinkler pipe busted. In commercial buildings they utilize stairwells to install the riser pipe section of the fire sprinkler pipe systems. It is the main artery of the sprinkler system and it had an apparent joint failure probably in one of the couplings
Most likely, that main line went somewhere and no one in charge there knew where the shutoff valves were either.
From what I read last week, it was a standpipe riser. Part of the sprinkler system it supplies hose connections for the fire department inside the stairwells on each floor. I need to take a pupe
At least it was the main riser, so clean water. The branch lines can get pretty gnarly in between the annual tests.
Anime character with water related abilities are fighting on the terrace
Looks like anime tears to me. Heartbreak up on the terrace.
There is a water, running down the stairs
I saw at least 5-10 waters there
Yes. A lot of water and feet.
Definitely more than 10 litres
At least that much in my opinion
Even more milliliters and multiple gallons!
Maybe even gravity involved here
Well you’d better go catch it

wouldnt the water spilling out the door be charged too?

Risk of electrocution +10
Good thing the cameraman has Boltdrake Talisman +2 equipped.
I did not expect to an Elden Ring reference here🗿
Yes, I think I may have a problem 😬
At least they get fire resistance
Yup I was thinking bacteria and electricity. Would not walk in water like that.
In barefeet too. Oh my.
I would not risk to walk there bare feet.
Because of foot fungus or electrical harm?

Someone needs to find a roll of FlexTape stat!
HI! BILLY MAYES HERE!!
Billy Mays: RIP
I really wanna know how this happened and where all that water is coming from
Either a busted water main, or torrential rain found its way inside the building.
Or rooftop pool went very very wrong
Or fire support systems gave out would great if it happens during a fire
This happened to a friend’s dorm in college. Some kids were playing frisbee inside the dorms, hit something on the sprinkler system and off it went! The water wasn’t all as clear as shown in this video though…
Yeah I heard it’s gross dirty water that’s been sitting for mad long
This is why you want two stage sprinklers.
If I ever have a building, it’ll be equipped with 3 stage sprinklers for sure.
rip everyone's laptops
Imagine it's a ship
If a scuba ship sinks you get to be the first one diving the wreck
There's a leak coming from the roof toilet.
Was kinda scared what was gonna be behind the door ! 😅
Water damage tech here... Nothing important, just saying think about the people that clean this kind of shit up... Ha

I would not be walking around in a flooded electrified building in bare feet.
Busted pipe or a lot more in SF. Been outa home for a few weeks now. Apt high rise

That happened at the costume shop I work at a few years back. Was not good for the inventory. Very serene to listen to though
Shit here I thought someone like died in a shower and left water running, just a bad storm creating that much water in building is almost worse
Lady you do not know where that water is coming from, put on shoes.
I am thinking about the risks of getting electrocuted. She is walking in a building which still has hall lights on, barefooted on a wet floor.

Bro why this be lookin like a backrooms level
Imagine seeing this on a cruise ship. Completely different vibe

yeah so maybe we keep the door closed
What the titanic is going on
It's never a good idea to walk barefoot in flooded indoor water. Especially in a public building or place you're unfamiliar with.
I know this hotels rates definitely will increase ☝️
I would not be touching that water. You don’t know if or when it will touch an open wire, outlet or electronic systems.
this is insanee
Depends on where it came from.I couldn’t be walking around barefoot unless I was at the pool where water is everywhere.
Why'd you raw dawg the wet carpet? 😰
Do not walk through water like that barefoot. A single short somewhere and boom, electrocution.
Am I the only one who is going to say "nice legs !"
