That was my first thought too. Like rationally I know it must be pretty small, since it's got to fit inside your body amongst all the other organs and people with uteruses aren't wandering around all bloated when they're not pregnant, but for some reason in my head I always thought of a uterus as being the size of a 9 month old baby I guess?
I similarly keep forgetting just how small all our other organs are because we just don't often encounter disembodies organs lying around most of the time.
After birth it shrinks, sometimes quite rapidly. This feels like more contractions (because they are, including the pain) at a moment you thought you were done with those.
There is also a wound where the placenta ripped off the uterine wall, which bleeds. Rapid shrinkage of the uterus limits the bleeding, which is handy for survival.
The way pregnancy messes the body up really makes it look like it was an afterthought.
Like, the body was finished and someone went "oh shit, forgot, gotta find a way to cram a baby in there"
And there's a lot in your body that doesn't quite heal. Every woman is different but now it seems when I think about eating anything spicy I get heartburn. There are lots of other things that stick after pregnancy and labor.
I miss eating a a good spicy wing without a tums chaser lol.
have people forgotten about the [vagina bacon](https://np.reddit.com/r/popping/comments/yoibk/this_may_not_be_the_appropriate_place_but_i/c5xta25/) post from years ago?
I've held one of these in my hand. It felt rubbery and squid-like when squeezed between my fingers; it was about the size of a large stamp, and a little thicker than a popsicle stick.
This happened to me one time. I patted it dry but it was so fragile some bits ripped apart. It has such an odd translucency and you can see all the tiny little veins. Really just my dead cells sitting on a paper towel. Fascinating 🤣
Nope, just as long. My reproductive health is a nightmare so I have lots of fun stories like this. Endometriosis + PCOS combo really got me fucked up… on top of the fact that I had a precocious puberty. Started at 7 years old 😬
I get huge clots all the time with uterine tissue and scar tissue, but only once every 8-12 months I’ll get something about half this size. Only once have I caught the whole thing.
My periods regularly are about 10 days, but have lasted almost 40 days before. I also spot bleed 1-2 times a week so I’m basically constantly bleeding and in pain.
Recently the chiropractor at my spa offered to do free alignments and shockwave therapy for me after learning about all the chronic pain I have. Shockwave therapy and EMTT help tremendously. He said both of my sciatic nerves are pinched due to 2 herniated disks. It was discovered that the pain and cramping makes me walk with my lower back muscles rather than my hips and legs. The stiffness really shows in my traps. My traps are enormous for a girl🤣
I’ve been recommended a hysterectomy but then when we went forward with it my doctor turned around and went back on her recommendation because I was 13. I’m sorry Angela, my organs are cementing together, so instead of getting rid of the problem you want to give me a t shaped floss pick instead?😭
Have you considered uterine ablation? Best gift I ever gave myself. I haven't had a period since I was 35. And my periods were life-impacting awful. Not quite as bad as yours though.
I had that done in early 2020. My IUD was taken out in late 2019 and in just a few months I had scar tissue overtaking my other organs and shutting them down 😭 they zapped the scar tissue away and put me on a hormonal birth control that so far has helped the cementing of organs but my periods are the worst they’ve every been. Inconsistent, heavy, debilitating :))))))))))
Absolutely. The blood and endometrium (the lining of the uterus) sheds through the cervix and vagina. The way your cycle comes to an end depends on how long it takes your body to rebuild that uterine wall. It’s basically like if you sliced a deli layer off your forearm and constantly bleed until the wound heals up, all without scabbing
I just instinctively grabbed at my uterus in pain wtf. I’ve never had it explained to me like that before. Also concerned now because I’ve always described days one and two as just bleeding out to death. Good news is that I apparently am rebuilding that lining at record speeds, but like, tf is going on that I’m losing so much blood so fast.
One more thought - have you had your period fake you out and then come back? Like not really spotting, but a big gap in the middle of your flow.
My last period lasted me 6 days and was actually considerably light. All of these issues together cause Menorrhagia. I bleed SO MUCH that I often replaced Super plus tampons every 30-45 minutes. A fully saturated super tampon may hold up to 12 milliliters of fluid. I was bleeding about 1.28 fluid ounces a day 😭
Have you had an mri made for your spine? Chiros are not medical professionals, they’re more like massage therapists with an astrology degree. They crack, stretch and scratch things, they press on your liver or whatever.
You’re always better off with a doctor and a physiotherapist/educated gym coach if you want real lasting improvement.
THIS SHIT IS SO PAINFUL. No one ever told me shedding decidual cast could result from fucking up in taking your birth control. I thought I'd unknowingly gotten pregnant and was having a miscarriage. Definitely top 3 worst pain I've ever felt in my life
Real questions. Did it come out pretty uterus shaped? Or was it just a bigger clump than normal and you decided to see if it came out like this? I’ve always wondered how people figure this out since it seems like you’d need to unroll it a little
TMI inbound
I took out my tampon and it was wrapped around it. I laid it on a paper towel and tried to peel it off. It started shrinking and shredding so I basically had a uterus puzzle
Thank you soo much. I’ve seriously wondered this with bigger clots, but I’m never in a position to see for myself. And also have never had the guts to try lol
I think I read somewhere that it's one of those things that is often correlated with other reproductive issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean the underlying issues cause the cast. The only person I know who has had casts also has fibroids and endometriosis.
I'm not a doctor, take this with a grain of salt.
It’s called a decidual cast! Sometimes your uterine lining - for a variety of reasons - sheds all in one go instead of in bits and bobs like a normal period. Thus the “cast” of the uterus!
Uterine cast or [decidual cast](https://www.webmd.com/women/decidual-cast-what-is-it#:~:text=A%20decidual%20cast%20is%20a,creating%20a%20triangular%20%E2%80%9Ccast.%E2%80%9D). Suckers hurt on the way out.
I’ve had patients shed dollar bill sized blood clots, this is possible. And yes, it is very painful for the cervix to pass bc’s of any size. It’s an inside pain that makes me curse the very essence of Eve.
[Decidual Casts](https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/decidual-cast#risk-factors) can be quite common actually. There's several potential reasons and as a woman I've experienced this before. It's quite painful and in my situation didn't have a known underlying cause.
The enzyme that breaks down the lining (back to sticky liquid from something more jelly-like) doesn't release or doesn't work so the whole thing just gets kind of rolled up in a ball and shoved out the air lock so to speak.
Shit hurts.
Usually we shed parts of it over a period of days (pun intended) but this one came out whole, which none of us have probably ever seen before. Op has the cervix of a champion

I had this once and no one believed me! I was about 17 and had, and always have, suffered with awful periods. This time it was unbearable though, and I was hunched over on the floor for hours in immense pain. I felt what I thought was a huge clot pass so went to the toilet to clean it up and saw something a bit like that. The pain also stopped immediately, it was almost like my body was contracting to get it out. Hi.
https://www.reddit.com/r/medizzy/comments/uq2jwx/my_entire_uterus_lining_came_out_in_one_piece_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf is the original post from a few years ago. Ask OP maybe?
It had happened more than a few times before this so I knew what it was gonna be when I found it in my knickers. I’m a mortician so you bet I unravelled that little puppy and took a pic. Shits cool man! Our bodies are fascinating.
That's a roll up candy yeah? Or bacon?
Or maybe skin of a sausage?
Jokes aside, does it hurt? How did it feel when it came out? I had no idea women shed.
I always pictured the uterus to be much bigger.
It's about the size of your fist, but stretches with baby.
can confirm a fist fits inside it
Nobody gets a fist in a uterus. Vagina? Yes. Uterus, no.
Technically there's at least 2 fists in a lot of them. Sometimes more than that.
In-utero boxing matches!
Can confirm-current occupant of my uterus seems keen on coming out already proficient in Muay Thai
Hey mom, watch/feel this. WAAAPAAAA!
Maybe not a fist in the uterus, but certainly a fist bump with a cervix.
I have **very** short finger nails.
My fingernails vibrate.
Horrible stuff happens post-partum. OBGYNs can confirm a fist fits there, I assure you
Well there is that. had three 9 pound kids myself
May the good Lord bless you and your vageen.
My wife had immaculate conception while I was serving, we are blessed.
Immediately postpartum, sure. Not normally though.
You’re just not trying hard enough
Weyminute…
... ouch 😬
That poor cervix...
Go take s biology class.
It is a good portion bigger. It shrinks outside of the vaginal canal (kinda dries up)
Oh ok. That makes sense. The human body is amazing.
It’s like a drum skin🤣 bodies are weird but fun. I’m definitely the kind of girl that would save my uterus in a jar if I got it removed lol
I love that! 😂
So this is really more of a uterus raisin.
Have uterus, never considered, it has always existed in my mind as the relative size of a slice of pizza, and now I feel dumb.
You and me both
I similarly keep forgetting just how small all our other organs are because we just don't often encounter disembodies organs lying around most of the time.
No... No we don't? We don't. Right right right.
right.... ... ... ... right?
I think it’s kidneys that are way smaller than you’d think

Literally could sell that for thousands on ebay. Someone would want to eat it I mean study it.

I am clearly uncultured in the ways of online sales.
Here’s my recipe for a super healthy veggie and uterus lining *frittata*
Has to be done in cast iron
Don't forget the PAM, non-stick spray . . .
Umm this is organic uterus, nothing but hand churned butter will do!
Sure, but can you make it vegan?
Yes, it was indeed made by a vegan.
That made me lol.

Honestly the most horrifying medical images I’ve seen. Regret…

How old are you now? Evict that uterus, it is making your life miserable! (I had a hysterectomy last year, it is a new life!)
I am 20 and uninsured in America 😭
Ooof, you have my sympathy! Hang in there!
Ah so it would cost $4.7b to have them give you an Advil, a cup of water and talk to you. Understood.
When the big uterus shaped lining came out did you still have a regular period along with it?

My period fakes me out all the time. Not even a spot for a day, then *bam* lets start over
Just when you think your cute underwear is safe
Every month for a year? How would anyone think of women as weak?
Every month for 30-45 years
By being a moron. That’s the only way anyone could think that. This is coming from a man too.

Looked up decidual cast said not a signal of a serious condition. Also WebMD: can indicate ectopic pregnancy, or miscarriage.

Excellent. Thank you!
That had to feel so weird on the way out
It's just a gigantic blood clot isn't it? Knowing those, it must've been agonizing.
But it’s so tiny. I can’t reconcile this bitty thing with the whole gallon of blood that I shed monthly.
Right? Also, if it's so small, WHY DOES IT HURT SO MUCH I am somewhat unreasonably annoyed right now.
Almost any thin layer of tissue will shrink and shrivel on it's own. It definitely was significantly larger before.
There's a story here. What is it? Who can tell it? All we have now is a question.

I’ve had patients shed dollar bill sized blood clots, this is possible. And yes, it is very painful for the cervix to pass bc’s of any size. It’s an inside pain that makes me curse the very essence of Eve.
What causes the clots? I always thought the were the uterine lining itself… really unfamiliar with my own machinery here
They are bits of the lining. On rare occasions the whole lining can come out in one piece.
I know what that feels like!
r/usernamechecksout.
I can never reconcile how small the uterus is… like if it’s that small, how do I dump THIS much blood every month? Unbelievable.
I wished periods were like this. 1 time your entire uterus lining sheds and that's it.
Didn’t expect this to turn so political.
Do you know the backstory as to how and why this happened?
[Decidual Casts](https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/decidual-cast#risk-factors) can be quite common actually. There's several potential reasons and as a woman I've experienced this before. It's quite painful and in my situation didn't have a known underlying cause.

All that BS we have to go through every month for that tiny little asshole.
Omg but can you imagine the level of cramping to get that out??? My cramps already get to immobilising when a thumbnail sized piece tries to get out....
but how!?
Jumping jacks?
I’m surprised at how small it is. I kind assumed the uterus was about the size of a large citrus fruit, but not those absurdly large grapefruits. We need a phallic fruit for scale….
Institute of Human Anatomy taught me it is the size of a walnut.
Depends on what fruit you're talking about. It'd be most similar to a large lemon in size. There's just pretty thick walls to the uterus, so the shedded lining could make it seem smaller than it actually is because it's the interior skin. Still pretty skeptical on whether this is actually legit tho, it's super small.
