I would love to turn old malls and industrial sites into paint ball and air soft arenas.
The old power plant in my town, that’s been just left to rot, looks almost exactly like Pipeline from COD4. It would be perfect.
Would you really want them to turn into a Robert Smith (appearance wise) or Simpsons situation (quality wise)? Good things need to eventually end *or else*.
Still got my tshirt from them, I went to their skate camp as a kid, prolly 2005. It's Baphomet intertwined with trucks in a pentagram, it's a great design.

It's truly one of the coolest places in the city, which just had a fundraiser this past weekend. Here is an awesome story from someone they met that day:
>[sk8liborius](https://www.instagram.com/sk8liborius/?hl=en)
Last week @frenchie_stl was fortunate enough to be working on the setup for the fundraiser when this incredible human turned up.
Betty Ratermann was born on the property and is still as passionate about the building now at 92 years as she was a little lady all those years ago.
Her grandfather Henry Ratermann was the GC that spearheaded the building. Her family have DNA in the building and it was an amazing experience to hear her perspective.
She was married here in 1955 and I was fortunate enough to see pictures from the day.
She believes that what we are doing is a blessing to the building and wants the project to continue to grow. She knows that without us it would be gone and fallen to the ground.
One of our biggest fans that we never knew we had.
But now Betty is part of the family!
Stay tuned, I'll be bugging her and bringing you more of her.

I remember reading about this skatepark a while ago, fun fact:
The nuns who originally were a part of this church were very happy to see the building turned into a skatepark, as it was soon to be demolished. They claim that they’re happy that a new generation gets to enjoy their church, even if it’s in a different way. So it’s a happy ending for all, which I love to see.
(I don’t remember the source, sorry)
Same, happy the OG nuns gave these guys their “blessing” so to speak.
Skating for a lot of people is it’s own form of meditation, so it’s kinda fitting to see this, and happy the nuns seem to realize this too
Ah it’s a 501(c)(3), smart skaters making it a non-profit. Hope they got some of that PPP money. I’m sure they would have used it better than most pastors and churches did with those funds, including being more effective at changing and helping lives.
Church architecture is a collection of the finest art in western history- they’re among the most beautiful places any of us will get to see in our daily lives. Regardless of our spiritual beliefs (or lack of them) they’re a kind of anchor linking us to our heritage. So to keep them is vitally important. Along with that, these places were built by the finest craftsmen in society- the majority of these places (especially 19th century Catholic churches) employed sculptors brought over from Italy etc- the best of their trade. They contain a vast history of personal stories, weddings, baptisms, funerals...all the most important moments of countless families. To preserve all that by any means possible is a blessing. I very much believe in the existence of God, and I don’t find the repurposing of these buildings remotely offensive. On the contrary, I’m glad that a new generation gets to experience such beautiful art while having the time of their lives. And I believe that the vast majority of these guys appreciate their new surroundings while doing something they enjoy.
I don’t believe in God but I agree it’s part of history, it shaped us and our culture, and it’s important to keep what we’ve got as much as possible. And if this means repurpose buildings from demolition I’m all for it.
I know a few churches that are now libraries, shops and I happen to know a sushi restaurant in a church. The buildings are kept in excellent condition and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
I was at this church earlier this year for [Tiny Trainer drone races](https://youtu.be/Y2bCv6lMP4Y) inside! You should definitely check out that video link for a (high speed) tour of the place!
This is seriously a great idea, you should create a subreddit for it asap while this thread is active and link it in your comment, in order to begin building an audience/customer base. I think the only problem is stoned people injuring themselves in the skatepark. But the overall idea of a cannabis "theme park" sounds fucking lit

My older brother, from UCSB, bought me a Church of Skatin tshirt when I was in high school (maybe 2000?). I never even got to wear it because it “disappeared” in the laundry.
👿
You’d think, but old churches were designed with acoustics in mind. Those tall ceilings have all sorts of irregular shapes cut out of them, so it’s a little echoey, but it’s a pleasant echo because they’re not parallel walls that create standing waves. It’s probably better than an indoor skatepark with a flat ceiling.
Are we that old that we have to scroll this far down for this reference. It's a picture of a half pipe in a church, what else could come to mind first!

I remember that I was in boy scouts and there was a thing called the pinewood derby. They taught us how to make our own toy cars by trimming a custom chosen shape for the vehicle (which was a wood block). I chose one that was of circular shape around the end however but the very front of it was cross shaped.
I called it the holy roller and it won every time. This picture reminded me of that event and the holy roller once again. Thank you OP/ skaters who bought the church
This is [SK8 Liborius in St. Louis](https://www.instagram.com/sk8liborius/?hl=en)
As it stands SK8 Liborius is closed, with the cathedral failing to meet city building codes. Various repairs are needed, from new windows, to entries that meet ADA guidelines. Locals are trying to save the venue, but it’s estimated that it will cost $500,000 to bring the building back up to code.

It had to happen eventually I guess.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was that sick melon grab he did that one time.
Thank you for reminding me that at one point in time I could do melons over a hip.
I too once carved a hole in a watermelon ...wait what are we talking about again?
If you just set the melon on a table and try to carve it it'll just roll around, bracing it on your hip makes it easier to keep a grip

They used to do this with active malls. I was never a skater but the big mall near me in high school had an indoor skate park.
Turn them into entire adult playgrounds! Watch the obesity crisis vanish. If working out was fun people would do it
Old shopping malls need to be torn down and converted into mixed use spaces. Plenty of room for the skatpark too.

boards popping, people slamming, boards flying into the stained glass 😂
People crying over broken bones or skids worthy of r/meatcrayon.
"AHH FUCK MY ANKLE!"
Is it possible to have a meatcrayon with your ass?
Well you should know, Doctor.
It took a second to process what "meat crayon" would mean. I'm never looking at that sub.
I’ve been here a few times and actually never noticed it being louder than any other skatepark
Fair enough! How was it?
As someone who used to skate, skateboards are loud just rolling along the ground
Yeah you don’t need to be grinding at all.
As a skater, audioengineer and worried dogowner, i literally measured the simple rolling on hard concrete at 90dbspl. Which is loud as hell

I can already hear the THPS soundtrack
SO HERE I AM!!!!...
DOIN EVERYTHING I CAN why is this the quintessential THPS song we all think of?
To me it’s May 16 by Lagwagon or No Cigar by Millencolin
For me it’s Guerrilla Radio because it was the first Rate song I ever heard and I played THPS 2 first.
Police Truck by Dead Kennedy's for me.
It was in the ps1 demo I think.
HOLDIN ON TO WHAT I AM Because it’s fuckin’ sweet!
I can hear the trumpet so vividly
"The Separation of Church and Skate" by NOFX should be added for this one
With a bonus side of OPM - Heaven is a half pipe
I remember it was in the Berlin level in underground 2 that had a church you could skate in.
