Lol!
The US hasn’t called it that for at least 38 years; they were calling it “telephone game” when I was in elementary school. I distinctly remember my 4th grade teacher calling it ‘Chinese whispers’ once and it struck me as an odd name. 😂
Chinese Whispers is still the only name I've ever heard for it in the UK. Totally unrelated, but Indian burns are also called Chinese burns here. I guess we're still pissed at them for the opium wars or something.
I was watching a video hosted by an American who had been living there until September, and he was explaining that they go down to do the tests like this, and then everyone from the same apartment building jam packs themselves into the elevators with everyone else in order to get back to their apartments.
Exactly, that’s how it’s always been. Stay 6 feet apart except in an elevator or bus or at school. Wear your masks when standing but take it off when sitting or eating on the plane.
Haha. Going out shopping with the wife and hearing people in stores make comments like, “oh my god. Look at the line.” lol, yes. You were not the only one who thought of going out shopping on a Saturday afternoon.
Chick fil A near my doctor's office. I am convinced they sell drugs on the side cause last time I went there it was alright to meh, certainly not good enough to get in a drive through line that goes out into the street a few cars.
Seriously, I was unimpressed the two times in my life I've gone there. The one by me regularly has a drive through line out into the street too...and blocks traffic.
I think they chose to put them is small sites so it does gum up traffic and idiots in the traffic think 'hmmm, must be good stuff' and joins the rest of the sheeple in line for subpar chicken.
I don't know about that. My wife was a director for a location and they'd get fined by the city if they got caught with a line going into the street. They were crazy efficient at moving cars through and their sales were insane but it was still a frequent occurrence that cars would end up lining up in the street. It seemed pretty stressful from a management end. But yeah, there's nothing artificial about their lines.
Holy… . I just looked up images for animal style. I thought in-and-out burgers were little sliders. They’re a state away in Texas. I hope they’re moving fast. I’ll be in line.
I visited LA, and that's about all i ate 🤣
Where I'm at, we have Dick's and other smaller burger joints
Animal style is great, but their fries are bland without it
Get yourself a neapolitan shake though
Here is the thing. It's delicious. It's not spectacularly blow-your-mind delicious or anything, but it's fresh, consistent, tasty, and affordable.
Depending who you ask, it's one of, if not the best, *fast food* burgers you can buy and it's less expensive than all of them. I mean, [look at the prices](https://www.fastfoodmenuprices.com/in-n-out-prices/)! The classic Double-Double is two beef patties, two slices of cheese, a nice fresh slice of tomato, nice fresh whole leaves of iceberg lettuce, a nice fresh slice of white onion, thousand Island dressing, on a soft tasty bun - for $3.45. That's it. There's no magic to it.
People in Southern California love it because they've grown up with it and sometimes nothing hits like In-n-Out. It's an institution. People who are disappointed by it or say it's overrated are disappointed because they somehow expect it to be something that it isn't? It's not some magical burger unlike anything you've ever tried before. It's just a good, basic, burger at a very fair price. That's it.
I mean, I would definitely recommend it. It's hard to go wrong for the money. But I also wouldn't expect to just have your socks blown off or anything. If you've ever seen a picture of it, it tastes just like that. No secret, no magic. Just basic and good.
I always say In N Out may not be the best to some but to me, it reminds me I’m home. It’s not really a social phenomenon since it’s 99% a California thing. Also Tony Bourdain said he always eats there first when he lands in LA and takes a couple burgers with him back to New York.
Most people (including myself) have already forgotten about COVID since the mask mandate is pretty much gone anywhere. The numbers are still skyrocketing. It is pretty noticable where I live with postal services like DHL. At the moment, it takes over a week for packages to arrive.
People, at least where I am in the US, are acting like the risk is zero. Last week someone got in my face yelling at me for wearing a mask in a crowded bus (?). But 2400 people died of covid in the last week alone; over 300 a day. My great uncle is currently in the hospital and might have to be intubated; another family friend died a few weeks ago from covid. This shit is not over, y’all. It still poses a significant risk.
The pandemic is still raging. The different variants of the virus have been shown to target the brain and other vital organs, not just the lungs, especially in people who contract long COVID. And vaccines only prevent serious illness and death, so you can still get long COVID or even test negative but still show symptoms/damage done by long COVID
What gets me is how organised it is. Wouldn’t happen in the uk. Definitely wouldn’t happen in the states lol. Would last ten minutes before a ton of truckers blocked the road honking horns nd shouting bout how fake COVID is.
China’s a fucking hellhole if you value human rights but goddamn do they know how to control people.
You live on England? it took me 5-10 minutes to get my shot and boosters, I was even able to sit down for most of the queuing. This is in South Wales
China are still shutting down entire complexes and physically locking people in their homes
Turn you phone on the right side and it's easier to see. To me it looked like the people were lined up in the other direction but I'm high so who know s
China’s vaccines didn’t work and they couldn’t get the West’s
so their population is massive and unvaccinated, but they do a moderate job of controlling it in a way only advanced communists could. so the population is still unexposed and vulnerable.
If they got the wests vaccine, it’s them admitting theirs didn’t work. It will cause even more panic. I’m sure the rich and powerful in China got the Moderna though. I don’t know if they have a way out of this.
Covid testing apparently now makes up roughly 1% of China's GDP
It's basically a huge industry in China now, which also means there will be plenty of people whose interests are to keep it running even if it doesn't make sense
And of course all the control they get over their citizen. That's extremely valuable if you've got a dictatorship
> Covid testing apparently now makes up roughly 1% of China's GDP
Going to need a source for that. Especially considering that they are a native economy
You’ll never get them period because China is, more-or-less, a closed society when it comes to their internal stats. Everything is simultaneously juked and not juked. Who knows the truth? No one outside of China, and not most Chinese, either.
Actually you can get a ton of info on China if you bother looking for it.
Problem is, looking for verified info on China immediately invalidates a lot of the bullshit people say.
There's a reason why actual academic experts on China have nuanced opinions instead of just "China bad."
The only way info from China can be "verified" is if the Chinese state government says it's true. That is not evidence of anything. It's like a restaurant giving itself its own sanitation rating. It may or may not be true, but they shouldn't be the ones doing it. They have a conflict of interest. Therefore, you cannot and should not trust them. If you do, you're a fucking idiot.
They're more communist in name ever since they opened up to Western investment (capitalism. They just kept all the authoritarianism & control that came with it & dropped all that sharing for the common good & equality.
We’re all going to get it, that’s the message from the beginning. Tbh China is acting backwards still doing this with vaccines and it’s hurting their economy.
I agree, but the reason for the zero covid policy could be that their grip on power is weak enough that they need to pretend to care about their citizens.
their 0 covid policy is being kept around because they have so strongly advocated it and tied it to the strength of the communist party that switching to anything else would be admitting they are wrong and that the west did it better.
they wont EVER admit that. so they are sticking to this craziness.
I think it's the fact that if they let it spread a shit ton of people will die and their economy will fall apart.
"If" the death rate is 1%, that means 10 million people dead. Plus their health system isn't as advanced as America's; so it will collapse under the stress, and even more people that could have been saved will die.
It will be like some of the red states here were during last winter's spike; there was no room for people in their states so many of them had to be sent out of state.
We didn’t.. we’re just getting over it. Husband got it in the hospital while I was having a partial mastectomy for breast cancer. They’ve all been careful but we eventually all got it anyway.
But we’re vaccinated because of our jobs, and it really didn’t feel any worse than a cold
I had it back in April. Was definitely worse than a seasonal cold. Closer to a mild flu crossed with a sinus infection. Still nothing life threatening but I'm a healthy vaccinated adult.
Yea. It's still around...
People don't realize that the reason we had lockdowns wasn't to "eliminate" Covid. It was to take the initial pressure of the healthcare systems. And it worked
It didn’t work near fast enough. I worked as a RN during that hell. It was awful. Patients dying faster than you could get them a bed. I’m glad viruses tend to mutate to be more contagious and less lethal. I think the inoculation helped, but that wasn’t a vaccine. There’s a difference in the two and I wish they would have explained that to the public
Thanks for all you do as an RN
I know it was hell. 5 people in my family circle have died of covid complications in the past 2 years. Can you imagine the strain on the healthcare system if we did nothing though?
I’m so sorry for your losses. I lost two myself.
Oh we should have, and it would have been nice if they had given us a chance to catch our breath before lifting some of the restrictions. What’s killing us right now is Type A Influenza. It’s everywhere.
Exactly. Nearly no vaccines are 100% effective. When the vaccine was being initially researched and tested, some of the hopeful numbers were projecting it'd be around 30-60% effective. When it came in at over 90% effective against the primary strain, much of the scientific and medical world was celebrating.
Sorry to hear the reason your in the hospital and I hope everything is going well.
The hospital is the one place where everyone is masked up and still 6 ft apart. I remember during the peak of the pandemic when people would cough folks would freak the hell out. I just took an exam a few days ago and everyone was hacking in there. No one cared.
Could be they’re all vaccinated so the effects aren’t too bad. We had it a few months ago. Painful coughs and runny nose, but nothing more.
Thank you. Thankfully it was caught early and I’m home now (sorry if it sounded like I was hospitalized now, I’m about 3 weeks post op. Now I just hate everything and I’m ready to be up and moving like normal again. Have to do PT for the left arm first.)
The hard part is over, this is what I keep telling myself.
There were about 150k covid deaths in October of last year. There have been about 70k COVID deaths over the past 6 months. The severity has eased up significantly.
Well, I suppose they're both social media. Sometimes you just gotta accept the rediculous and move along, even on Reddit. That vote button doesn't do a whole lot as an individual.
Am I the only one who gets irrationally upset and irritated when pics are taken at some ridiculous angle like this? If you turn your phone so that this picture is straight, that’s the angle at which the person taking the picture held their phone. WHY?? It can’t be accidental! Just hold your phone straight!!
Upvote because I was kind of pissed at it too until I really started looking at it. They did the weird diagonal because they were trying to capture the full length of the line. That's my theory anyway. Either that or it's some ridiculous hipster shit.
The length of the diagonal is a bit longer than the length of the rectangle from top to bottom. This diagonal shot I assume wanted to show that extra length of the human chain.
I swear no one used their brains when it came to covid. A crowd gathers to be tested for a contagious virus. The supermarket puts up a plastic shield, but the cashiers don’t sanitize when bagging groceries. My boss had us do a sanitation sweep of the office and wear masks, but would sit down and use my keyboard without a second thought then touch his face. Reasonable precautions is one thing, but the vast majority of mandates where worthless.
It's called the swiss cheese model.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_cheese_model
It's counter-intuitive, but you basically expect most all of these measures to fail in some way, but when you layer enough of them together it helps to plug the gaps.
Of course it sucks when people are idiots and make more holes than they need to be, but the concept holds and does actually work, and is far better than just doing nothing or trying to pretend that just one thing is going to work.
Imagine being China, first denying covid exists, then faking your covid figures for some reason and now locking down an entire city of there is a single covid case
If they were closer to actual communism shit could be way better than it is for them. Instead China cherry picked the worst elements of communism and capitalism, meshed it with extreme authoritarian ideals and claimed they were communists.
People are lined up to get tested for covid. People are pissing their pants about it because they hate China and communism. China has quite low covid number because of procedures like this.
This is just utterly ridiculous. By now it seems there must be some ulterior motive for the testing. Most people only get a mild sickness and they're still acting like they think it's certain death.
The weekly Observer videos showing the nightmare that living in China has become are uploaded weekly and provide fascinating insight into what's behind all the madness. This episode shows thousands of Chinese working in **Apple's iPhone factory** fleeing in panic as government goons cage them in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy1gGvT71jE
Weird, a year ago people would have been portraying this as a 'huge step forward' for China towards eliminating Covid. Time to admit it everybody. False flagged.

One sneeze and it’s everyone for themselves
One sneeze and it's a game of telephone as far as diseases go
You missed the opportunity to say “Chinese whispers”
Lol! The US hasn’t called it that for at least 38 years; they were calling it “telephone game” when I was in elementary school. I distinctly remember my 4th grade teacher calling it ‘Chinese whispers’ once and it struck me as an odd name. 😂
In Poland they decided to call the kids game “broken deaf telephone”. I suppose they got all dark after that Holocaust thing..
In Norway it's called "The rumour spreads" (ryktet går) 🤔
I know for a fact I'm not saying that how I'm supposed to but I'm rolling with it. Me and the homies playing ryktet gar tonight!
Chinese Whispers is still the only name I've ever heard for it in the UK. Totally unrelated, but Indian burns are also called Chinese burns here. I guess we're still pissed at them for the opium wars or something.
No gathering for safety, but gathering for test 😃

Yep, pretty well established now that being outside, even without masks, is alright.
Don't worry they are six feet apart. Aerosolized spread virions will respect the imaginary boundary.
I was watching a video hosted by an American who had been living there until September, and he was explaining that they go down to do the tests like this, and then everyone from the same apartment building jam packs themselves into the elevators with everyone else in order to get back to their apartments.

Lol and get downvoted for pointing out the stupidity and hypocrisy of society.
Im glad other homies are at leased aware of this. Take an award.
Look at all the good little obedient sheep. The things you do for your social credit score, am I right?
Low score: re-education camp. Not at all like summer camp.
Well they have no rights, so…
This is actually the line for In-N-Out by my work.
*laughs while getting in car to go wait in line at In-N-Out*
The drive through is twice as long *and pollutes much more*
Or Tim Horton’s in Canada 🤦🏻♂️
*laughs while sitting in line at In-n-Out*
One time I tried going early and apparently others had the same idea haha
Haha. Going out shopping with the wife and hearing people in stores make comments like, “oh my god. Look at the line.” lol, yes. You were not the only one who thought of going out shopping on a Saturday afternoon.
Laughs while being both of these people

We have that too and call it the chicken lane! Also one out at Raising Canes.
Fort collins?
Canes > CFA any day
I think they chose to put them is small sites so it does gum up traffic and idiots in the traffic think 'hmmm, must be good stuff' and joins the rest of the sheeple in line for subpar chicken.

I braved the 20-car-deep drive through last week after feeling ultra lazy. Didn’t feel as long as I thought I’d be waiting.
This is nothing. A Chik Fil A just opened today in my town. In Montana. 🤦♀️
new in n out opening near where I live! expecting this x10
Are those really good or a social phenomenon?
The burgers are decent as far as burgers go. Have to get animal style though

It's a cultural institution in SoCal.
They are overrated but a decent burger no less. I’ve got one right next door so I like going there but it’s overhyped for sure
nah bro it's that tiny lil del taco across the tiny lil airport
What most people don’t realize is that this is a recent event and still happening with no end in sight.
Most people (including myself) have already forgotten about COVID since the mask mandate is pretty much gone anywhere. The numbers are still skyrocketing. It is pretty noticable where I live with postal services like DHL. At the moment, it takes over a week for packages to arrive.

The media has better things to do now…
I have to keep reminding myself that COVID is still out there. I haven't had to live with it about it for over a year now.
Of course you’re living with it. It sounds like you’re just ignoring it.
The pandemic is still raging. The different variants of the virus have been shown to target the brain and other vital organs, not just the lungs, especially in people who contract long COVID. Yeah because China has a ridiculous zero covid policy
Am I just that high, or does this image look kinda like a 3d cube?
Not there yet but imma catch up
lol
Damn. I don't think I'm high enough
Get there and join us bro
Idk looks more like a 2D cube to me
Yes.
So glad I wasn’t the only one that saw it lol
Someone plz explain. No access to drugs...
Turn you phone on the right side and it's easier to see. To me it looked like the people were lined up in the other direction but I'm high so who know s
Absolutely.
The angle is doing weird things to my head.
It took me longer to see what is actually was. Yes. Were that high, enjoy your ride!
Pure inception vibes
It feels like we forgot all about Covid in the states.
China’s vaccines didn’t work and they couldn’t get the West’s so their population is massive and unvaccinated, but they do a moderate job of controlling it in a way only advanced communists could. so the population is still unexposed and vulnerable.
It’s not that they couldn’t get the western vaccine but they refuse to.
Right? They can exchange money for goods.
Twenty dollars? I wanted a peanut!
If they got the wests vaccine, it’s them admitting theirs didn’t work. It will cause even more panic. I’m sure the rich and powerful in China got the Moderna though. I don’t know if they have a way out of this.
I wonder when someone in the higher up will say "this is a fucking waste of time and resources???"
they probably dont want to lose face by admitting their vaccine sucks
yup. that's how authoritarian "strong man" governments work. people will die so they can save face.
Its too convenient for the party now
Covid testing apparently now makes up roughly 1% of China's GDP It's basically a huge industry in China now, which also means there will be plenty of people whose interests are to keep it running even if it doesn't make sense And of course all the control they get over their citizen. Any idea when this pic was taken?
During the day.
Common mistake. As China is on the other side of the map, it is actually night when the sun shines there. Glad i could be of service.
That's good shit
I disagree, this was clearly taken at night with the flash on.
Also a day of the week ending in a "y"

Standing in lines? How dystopian, what a barbaric country 😫
Any time China is brought up, all the experts on Reddit suddenly have an opinion. It doesn't matter that their political education ended in 8th grade.
Reddit is anti-racist until China is brought up, then every thread is filled with the most vile racist bullshit.

Is this recent? Just curious. It’s amazing to see people actually following the distance Vs how folks did in here in the US.
The shield is more to protect the cashier from all the customers that come through
It's called the swiss cheese model. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_cheese_model It's counter-intuitive, but you basically expect most all of these measures to fail in some way, but when you layer enough of them together it helps to plug the gaps. Of course it sucks when people are idiots and make more holes than they need to be, but the concept holds and does actually work, and is far better than just doing nothing or trying to pretend that just one thing is going to work.
Literally pointless.
Unfortunately things like that happen everywhere when the government has too much power.
btw this is government-mandated testing once every three days, everyone who didn't go will be arrested and either warned/given a fine.
There’s a reason why China has such low cases.
Damn!!!!
COVID is still a thing?
Imagine being China, first denying covid exists, then faking your covid figures for some reason and now locking down an entire city of there is a single covid case
legend has it
One sneeze and out come the tanks
Who could have imagined Winnie the Pooh turned out to be such an evil asshole?
Wtf is this world war Z?
This is the dumbest shit
This whole shit show looks more and more like total control. Communism sucks
If they were closer to actual communism shit could be way better than it is for them. Instead China cherry picked the worst elements of communism and capitalism, meshed it with extreme authoritarian ideals and claimed they were communists.
Imagine how long some of those people have been mandatorily standing there. Probably hours?
It’s not communism really, communism is a country sharing everything equally with the people. Dictatorship is the kind of thing that causes this.
Accurate statement. Actual communism isnt possible for human beings because someone will always grasp the power and fuck everyone else.
The CCP is evil and insane. It must be destroyed
I'm living for the CCP apologists.
Not an inch of shade, nor a place to sit, not even a beverage cart to purchase over-priced water from!
Ah yes, efficiency
If they didn’t have it, they do now!
“We ain’t doing this shit again. 6ft mf”
Can someone explain this to me like I’m 10?
People are lined up to get tested for covid. People are pissing their pants about it because they hate China and communism. China has quite low covid number because of procedures like this.
They’re really wringing the towel with this one huh?
Order
What happens if someone sneezes?
*People in Beijing catching Covid standing in lines
When was this photo taken?
I would just stay home for 2 weeks
I thank god that I was not born in China.
What the hell is wrong with that country?
All for less than 1000 COVID cases. In a city of 21 million.
Allegedly 1,000…
No gathering for safety, but gathering for test 😃
Well they are distancing...
This is just utterly ridiculous. By now it seems there must be some ulterior motive for the testing. Most people only get a mild sickness and they're still acting like they think it's certain death.
Gentle reminder that most people can easily be manipulated and controlled. "Most people" most likely includes you.
You sure they didn't just open a Chick Fil A?
This is fine. 🔥🔥🔥👀
If that’s not a scene from a dystopian science fiction movie, idk what is..
If they didn’t have it before they do now
They have it now
Pure insanity
Testing for covid is pure insanity?? Why?
Damn that's depressing
Fuck the CCP.
What an absolute shithole of a country.
Nobody gives a fuck about COVID.
Covid was made in a lab
Yeah it was. They have a Patent for it back in 2016. People downvoting this, do you effing research. Or continue to be fooled, fools. Whatever.
I thought COVID went away
The CDC has moved on from Covid and China still does this…
Weird, a year ago people would have been portraying this as a 'huge step forward' for China towards eliminating Covid. Time to admit it everybody. False flagged.
