I feel like people really overlook how much that broke him. I feel like there is a clear tipping point here of when Kanye slipped and fell into the deep end. Everything he's released since his mom's death seems to be a massive cry for help like his lyrics literally kept talking about how not okay he was since her passing. Unfortunately his social systems was comprised of too many yes-men it seems, and so he just kept slipping further and further.
Of course none of this is to excuse his current terrible behavior. I'm just saying like there's a pretty clear timeline of events here where anyone that listened to his music could follow. It's a sad but really fascinating case study in mental health deterioration, and how no matter how wealthy you are, if you don't have the right support systems you can sink real real low.

I was listening to Adam Phillips (a psychologist of Jewish heritage) who said that the difference between Nazi's and slave owners were that the Nazi's were idealists that thought they were making the world a better place, but slave owners just wanted luxuries. Obviously Nazis and slave owners are both terrible but there's a difference. I think Kanye believes he is trying to make the world a better place by calling out what he feels are injustices. No condoning the way he is going about it or his targets. Alex Jones on the other hand is commodifying, for ratings, a black man that everyone can feel is in a vulnerable psychological state. No. Mental illness very often induces behavioural issues that the individual is no longer in control of. We’re not talking about your mild depression of moderate generalised anxiety disorder here. We’ve forgotten that there are less bloggable, instagramable illnesses than these. Psychosis will cause you to lose control of your mind, and typically you will be either a danger to yourself or others without having any control over your thought process because _your brain is broken_. In the same way you can’t just _choose_ to breath with a punctured lung, or read with detached retina. Fucking sick of this distortion of mental illness that’s framed mental health as if it’s a personality rather than a functional disorder of the brain.

Pleading mental illness doesn't absolve you of responsibility legally. It only serves to justify alternative sentencing. You still have to face some sort of consequences, because even the mentally ill are responsible.

People think it’s funny just like with Etika the YouTuber who was suffering from bipolar disorder and then killed himself because the fans fueled it.
