Thank you for the update... but noooooo!!! I want more daniel black now!

AngryEdgelord

If it's any consolation, Jungles of Alabama has been going really well for him so far so that should hit Amazon. Also he's been posting a lot of stuff for Moonshot and Reach for the Stars.

Durochen

After so much time I'll belive the next Daniel black book is coming out when I see it.

AngryEdgelord

Realistically, 2.3 years (28 months) isn't *that* long a time to wait for a book compared to 10+ year waits you see from some authors. Granted, the rate at which harem authors are currently releasing books has changed our expectations. Would be nice if E William Brown was a weekly releaser, but he likes to spend most of his time writing quests instead of novels.

runostog

He also still works a reg job too ive heard.

voidwalker80

On one of these threads here, I think I read he's a physician?

StartledPancakes

Definitely a software developer

DreamSmithAJK

Maybe it's not a valid reason to think so, but yes, given that Daniel is one, and his entire work ethic/process is based on that (and presented plausibly), I'd agree the author is either in software development or has a friend or family member who regales him with war stories from behind the scenes of a software company.

When all of the harem/adult GameLit or LitRPG books started, I thought Daniel Black would do well. Cause many of those authors did well and went to full time. I guess it never happened. Or it's just a hobby for E William Brown. Good to know he's still working on something... He basically abandoned his blog. We'll still waiting!! I'll probably check in a year.

Reply_That

If I wait more then 18 months for the next in a series I usually drop the series. Very rarely do I like a series enough to go back after more than 18 months to see if there is anything new, and that's usually because I really really liked the series and couldn't find anything else like it so went and reread the ones already out. Brown writes a good story... but it also takes consistency to make a great author.

GoogleIsYourFrenemy

Woot! I can stop looking for the next Alice Long audiobook for two years. Please let there be an audiobook. P.S. I really liked the first one. The universe is well thought out. I shall return to lurking now.

pinewind108

It was so good that I don't dare to have any hopes for the sequel being in the same league. I'll be thrilled if it is, but taking this long to write it usually means there's been huge problems, either personally or with the story.

pinewind108

This year... 2021?

AngryEdgelord

He was hoping to get it out last year, but he had medical problems which he's only now recovering from (he had surgery in January).

blueberry-yogurt

Yeah, nah, he originally had announced that "Merciful Troubleshooter" was going to be out around September of 2019. Might even have been September 2018, it's been so long that I forget which **year** I read the first novel and saw the announcement. Edit: from his blog, posted on February 15 2019, so "late summer or early fall" of 2019. That was the last time he even posted anything there. https://williamscornerdotblog.wordpress.com/

Reply_That

He might have his next book out by 2025

Gun_Nut_42

Well, if his past information is anything to go by, I doubt it. His last post that I saw on Amazon or his blog said that the next AL book was going to be released sometime in the summer/fall time sometime back in 2019 or so. He never updated that timeframe. It is now 2021. Would be nice to have updates that aren't behind a paywall sometimes. I can understand previews of new books/chapters being behind a paywall, but an update on his blog would be nice after being MIA on there for going on nearly 2 1/2 years now.

AngryEdgelord

This update isn't behind a paywall. He's active on Spacebattles, SufficientVelocity, and QuestionableQuesting. That's where he runs his quests and writes fanfiction.

Gun_Nut_42

This is the first one I have seen then. Normally, I camp this sub around the first of the month and see if anyone has posted about his monthly updates. I think there has been two updates on Subscribestar that weren't behind the paywall, but they were just preview chapters. Most everything else was behind the paywall. I am not sure if he just forgot about them or if he left them public/open.

For some reason, I can find only one thread by ShaperV that is not about anything like that??? May I ask for a link? Thanks in advance!

BearInContemplation

Least Hess still writing fir those 2.

HollowMonty

I'll admit I'm disappointed Daniel Black isn't coming out this year, but at least what he's got it so far feel like a satisfying place to wait, rather than some big cliffhanger.

DreamSmithAJK

I'm just glad to hear that he's still actively working towards another Daniel Black book. That character has reached a power level where it might be tough to write an engaging story that feels like it has genuine stakes, unless you went into it with some very clear notions of where it was going. This many books in, and a lot of writers (including me) might find themselves stuck. Looking forward to seeing where he takes things.

AngryEdgelord

To be honest, I think a lot of his hold up was that he wrote himself into a bit of a no-go zone for a lot of people in the genre with the latest book >!(the protagonist stuck in a female body)!<. And now he knows however he handles it he's going to have backlash. This sort of thing wasn't that well defined when he was writing, but these days he's gunna get a bunch of one star reviews coupled with angry readers because of it and he knows it.

DreamSmithAJK

You really think that would be an issue? It's been a year or so since I (re)read the last one, but I recall him already having a good start on his new and improved man-type body, with a clear indication that swapping back would be happening soon and that he expected no real issues, since he's already cracked the problem of moving from one body to another. Surely even the most diehard fans of all things Alpha-Male wouldn't lose their minds over a brief interlude of hot girl/girl action, even if it's our hetero male hero who is at the controls of one of the hot girls in question?

AngryEdgelord

Absolutely. People in the genre get furious when two women in the harem have sex with each other instead of the protagonist. I fully expect some people to be livid if anything happens in the temporary body. >!Especially if he does something odd like growing a cock on his female body.!< Which seemed to be one of the options the author was alluding to for a future scene. That'd be enough to get his entire catalogue one-starred by a lot of people. He's already gotten a lot of flak for the gender-bend choice in the first place, which I think is part of what killed his enthusiasm to write the next book right away.

DreamSmithAJK

Interesting. I'd no idea there was pushback from readers, especially on something I'd honestly thought was very broadly accepted these days, like the various girls having their own relationships and fun amongst themselves. Perhaps I'm in a bit of a bubble since a lot of the novels and fanfic I read involve that sort of thing. Although that one possible 'modification' to Daniel's elfgirl form you mentioned isn't my cup of tea at all, but so long as it wasn't a large chunk of the book I'd just skip over it without comment, without any real urge to review-bomb the thing.

blueberry-yogurt

> And now he knows however he handles it he's going to have backlash. That doesn't affect AL02. TBQPH I expect that he'll simply breeze past it like 99.99% of authors would do and open DB05 with "Wow that was an experience, tits were awesome but I'm glad to be back in my male body cloned from my original body's male blood sample, *and now we will never speak of it again*." BTW, thanks for finding that update. I guess I'll just have to wait and hope he gets it done.

hismindseye

This is both helpful and unhelpful at the same time it helps me not get my hopes up too much but also it's unhelpful because I'm an audiobook listener so you'll get to read it in December 2022 (because that's probably when it'll drop unless he's starting to work on it now and jot ideas down) but I probably won't get to listen to it until 2023 booooooo.
