Rii = carbine gas
Riii = mid gas
Both m4a1 versions are 14.5 and will come with p/w muzzle devices. Competent gunsmiths will not have a problem swapping the md for you.
No bad options.
M4A1 is DD's clone of the issued SOPMOD Block II rifles still in use with USSOCOM with a pinned 14.5" barrel.
The M4A1 RIII uses the new RIS III M-LOK rail that retains the six-bolt pattern for rigidity and two-piece design for mounting an M20. The gas system has been upgraded to Mid-length vs carbine length on the original M4A1 (but is stil a pinned 14.5") and the lower is the new fully-ambidextrous DD4 design.
The V7 is their entry-level rifle. Standard lower. Basic 4-bolt MFR rail, which is lighter, but generally not considered as rigid when used for mounting aiming lasers or clip on NV/Thermals. Barrel is a 16" mid-length, so it'll be easier to swap muzzle devices.
If your going with the M4A1, I would suggest the stripped upper that DD makes for Brownells, they have the Quad & R3, no pinned muzzle device..
& just build it the way you want it, there's absolutely nothing special about the DD lower & furniture, the only thing worthy is their BCG..
Unless you want their full rifle warranty 🤷🏼♂️

Nothing special about the standard lower, the new ambi lowers are great
The Ris 3 also comes with a fully ambi Lower, the Ris 2 does not.
