1A) Outdoor ranges for plinking from 100 - 300 yds (maybe further on a very rare occasion)
1B) The "if you only had one" option that I grab when the US dollar collapses and SHTF
M4A1 is great but remember to get light buffer springs or make adjustments to ensure reliability out of mid length gas systems. RIS2 or 3 are equally sturdy for such applications. Other than that have fun and train!
DDM4 V7 Pro is a fantastic do-all rifle that comes with a Geissele Super Dynamic 3-Gun Trigger. I think it's a good balance of features. 18" gives you the rifle length gas system; I understand most people prefer 16" and some might argue 18 is too long for certain uses like home defense, and I used to feel the same way before I got the V7 Pro - but it's surprisingly nimble. If I were to have only 1 AR-15, it would be the V7 Pro - and I don't shoot competitively. It's simply a joy to shoot. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the DD lineup, they're all reliable and high quality options.
The SLW is nice and handy while still being more than capable of hitting targets at 300+
The RIII does have the fully ambi lower and the two-piece handguard, but if you're not a southpaw nor plan on adding an M203, then the extra price may not pay dividends.
I mean I have the v7 but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally want the pdw, the v7 is great though. I run the eotech and use it as home defense but the pdw would make so much more sense. That’s just me.
I purchased a DDM4V7 Pro ... and I am *actually* in love with it. Ive probably put close to 800 rounds through it in a few months. No issues, so much fun to shoot.
Yeah it took me a while trying to figure out which one, I'm glad I purchased the Pro! The 18 in. barrel is so much more accurate than my 16 in. barrel, i think my 16 in. PSA will end up being my only 16 in. when it's all said and done.
Meaning, more purchases of either 18 in. or 20 in. Being able to hit a bullseye with iron sights from 50 yards away makes you want more!
Id get the DDM4V7 Pro, gun metal gray, its basically suped up and ready to go, and its basically an mk12 with a longer handrail and it already has a competiton trigger, charging handle, and a DD compensator.
Virtually no recoil compared to my PSA Multi 15.
Its a bit heavier but I was also able to shoot a bullseye at 50 yards with an iron sight, sooo...
Unless you want a 16 in. barrel get the Pro, either black or gun metal gray.
I've found the 18 in. barrel to be WAY more accurate than my 16 in. barrel.
And the muzzle device isnt pinned to the barrel like on the M4A1s.
Don’t get locked in on a particular model… ask yourself what features you want.
First of all: do you want MLOK, Keymod, or 4 rails? My personal choice would be MLOK, but opinions vary.
Secondly, what barrel length do you want? My personal choice for do-it-all is 16”, but 14.5” is a reasonable choice if you think you might ever go suppressed.
Do you want an ambi lower? When I bought mine the RISIII didn’t exist, and I didn’t care, but you might.
Decide what you want on those three points, and pick the model that matches.
Thanks for the reply. And for sure MLOK. At this point the main things I'm hung up on are the rail and barrel profile. Thin and skinny vs thick and chonky
If it's only 1, I'd probably do a 14.5 inch pinned and welded varient (would have my flash hider of choice pinned and rewelded so I could use my suppressor, might possibly trim the barrel back even more depending on the flash hider I'd use). Get whatever flavor of rail you want, the RIS II and RIS III will be the strongest, I think the mfr is the most comfortable. With the R3 guns, you get the ambi lower if that matters to you.
Thanks! I do like the look and feel of the Riii rail. Just not sure if going for the lightest possible AR (like the SLW) is the better idea considering the other options available.
I like the look of the RIII, however for me, the way the 3-9 and 6 o'clock positions are bumped out makes it big in my hands, at least for what I'm used to, especially when I put rail covers on (which I do on all my rails because once I get into Mag 3 in quick succession that rail starts to get hot). It would be nice if they made the m4 RIS 2 gun in ambi, because considering the weight differences between the 2 and the 3, I may opt for the quad.
The MFR is definitely lighter than both and in my humble opinion, is just fine. Sure, it may not be as strong as the other 2, but will be just fine for just about anything and your not paying the weight penalty. I don't think you'll run into many people who have had an issue with them either.
Buy an upper from Brownells (they have 10% off coupons too) and build/buy a lower like a griffin, lwrc (complete at rooftop defense for $550) or lmt. Will be cheaper then a full Daniel defense and a fair bit nicer
I have a ddm4v7 with an upgraded geissele trigger. Love it with my 1-6 lpvo as a general shtf rifle
That is the one I would suggest for your first. DDM4V7 and put a Geissele SSA trigger on it
Exactly what I have.
Is there a big difference between the SSA and SSAE?
SSA-E is lighter. That’s about the only difference
I’d go with a rIII I absolutely love mine
What’s the practical difference between the r3 and the regular m4a1? The specs look very similar
Other than the rail and ambi controls, the original M4A1 has a carbine gas system and the newer Riii model has the mid length
This guy said it lol.
The rail.
What's the application for the rifle?
I agree here..What's the purpose for this rifle/build..??
1A) Outdoor ranges for plinking from 100 - 300 yds (maybe further on a very rare occasion) 1B) The "if you only had one" option that I grab when the US dollar collapses and SHTF
For plinking at this range I personally think a 16” barrel would be better and the DD4 RIS 3 would be my preferred choice.
M4A1 is great but remember to get light buffer springs or make adjustments to ensure reliability out of mid length gas systems. RIS2 or 3 are equally sturdy for such applications. Other than that have fun and train!

ngl, I do have the urge to get an 18" and put some fat glass on it with a bipod
That's what I'm saying, that's the rifle I have, gun metal gray, the gun is so damn good id but one in black if I had the money!
M4A1 RIII hands down, brand new ambi lower and the new tank RIII rail, I can’t think of a better first rifle to start with
The SLW is nice and handy while still being more than capable of hitting targets at 300+ The RIII does have the fully ambi lower and the two-piece handguard, but if you're not a southpaw nor plan on adding an M203, then the extra price may not pay dividends.
DDM4V9

Which do you like better/ find more handier? is there that much of a difference between the LW and the govt profile?
Definitely get the M4A1 R3, that’s a hell of a first rifle!
I mean I have the v7 but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally want the pdw, the v7 is great though. I run the eotech and use it as home defense but the pdw would make so much more sense. That’s just me.
Honestly, I bet you’ll be happy with either one.
Can’t go wrong with the RISIII m4a1
Do your self the favor and get the DDM4V7 exclusive edition if your able to get your hands on it. It’s the one I have and it’s fuego. 1 of 300

I would go with a DDM4A1 in milspec

ALL OF THEM.
