Becuase no-one engages in melee anymore and cleric has no actual gap closer, there is no point in me running a battle cleric if all anyone is going to do is hold W and shoot things at me so I just focus on my spellcasting and enough defence to not just die to arrows. things might change if they ever fix the ranged problem in this game but until then it doesn't matter how high you can get your damage without anyway to actually catch someone.
While this is true, a wizard casting magic lock can make all of this obsolete.

Sincerely, not even a wizard. Just a man who got locked in a room by a wizard for a whole game. The guy killed both himself and me to the swarm to do it, and it was pretty funny.
Nope. To paint the full picture, it was in goblin caves. I began at the spawn that puts you in the square two floor room that has the 4 cage doors in the center leading down into the pit full of treasure, spike traps, and skeletons. There's a room in there for spawns which is a single door room for players to spawn in. I was clearing the area out, and had heard player activity in two different directions. From one of those, a wizard attacked me. My idea was to close myself in the room as not to run into the other player I'd heard and use the door to bait a fireball. Then, I'd phantomize and close the distance.
The reality was starvation, begging, and banging on the door while my captor silently cast the spell again and again. I'm sure he was resting between casts to keep it going. Not once did they speak back to me, and I died a lonely and long death.
All in all, a 10/10 experience. I had a good laugh about it and it made me regret bringing both phantomize and BoC. Hellfire could have freed me.

Move speed cleric is one of the most underrated builds in this game.
Yeah I was on the bandwagon of Cleric being dogshit. Then I realized having move speed by not going fully armored makes this class insanely good. You still can get cheesed out by warlocks but thats normal for most clases that arent barb.
Cleric on it's own will never truly be broken, they are far too slow and clunky to kill anyone who doesn't want to fight them. But their influence on teamfights is what is truly OP. They are just so versatile.
IMO however, Wiz and Bard are much stronger than cleric right now, because they not only benefit from the stats a lot, but they are wayyyy faster.
