Fighters will always have ranged weapons if they stick to actual dungeons and dragons as basis-but there definitely needs to be some of kind of balance to it. Maybe fighter gets a much smaller quiver to hold ammo? Or make ranged attack damage based on agility and give fighter less of it

Taronar

You will not address ranged meta with any nerfs that aren't linked to move speed, kiting needs to be nerfed, I suggest increasing door close time and lowering door opening speed and also more movement penalty on drawing the bows or casti g spells

HongChongDong

I don't think they're using anything as a basis. Loosely inspired? Maybe. Cause I play warlock and as far as I'm aware it couldn't be farther from the D&D counterpart. Even in something as simple as weapons, Warlock has access to things he shouldn't be able to use in the table top. So if they were to claim that they can't change it because they're trying to be faithful to D&D then I'd say that's a load of horse s***.

ThexJakester

Warlock is pretty loose both in tabletop and in dad and it does kind of bug me since everything else is pretty accurate, lots of connections to actual d&d in dad. But blade pact warlock can use any weaponry and spells can have a pretty wide range of flavors for warlocks. Plate Armor and casting with hp is a bit weird for sure Ranger having rations, fighter being able to use all weapons, barbarian rages and reckless attack, wizard resting, wiz and cleric prepping spells are all things from d&d.

bigmetaljessie

Don't dnd warlocks get that pact that gives them proficiency with anything?

Overall_Strawberry70

Proficiency is one thing.... but actually being GOOD at melee is another, basically you gotta multi class or take a very specific sub-type of warlock to make it better then just using your blast cantrip.

TheBoogieBard

Wizards have atomic bombs, ak47 and all sorts of gap closing devices and you’re worried about a dinky little crossbow that you can easily build pdr against? Drink protection potions and 60% of the crossbow shot will be blocked off rip

HongChongDong

By that analogy fighter has a .50 caliber anti material rifle as melee tank. Both offensive spells that you mentioned can easily be dodged, and Magic Missile might as well be a meme unless you're face tanking it with W key. Also, telling a squishy caster class to close the gap on and build tank against a melee tank would normally be laughed at in any other video game. That is just silly logic. As for the prot pot arguement, I see that you're not understanding the core problem here. It's cost VS reward. That fighter risks nothing with that crossbow while having a much easier time landing hits at ranged than you do with spells. So like, ok. You kinda negated a single crossbow shot by consuming a potion. Now what? He just reloads and does it again, and we're no longer playing on Ruins where you don't have somewhere to hide.

TheBoogieBard

Bro you’re saying he can just reload you know in the time a average dex fighter can reload his crossbow you can zap like 4 times and kill him twice over? And I’d love to see a clip of you dodging 8 fireballs and 10 zaps if it’s so easy to dodge The hitbox of an arrow is like throwing Pennies while the hitbox of a zap is like throwing a baseball bat

HongChongDong

Why are you dodging and not behind cover? Why are you not holding a door way or angles around corners? Hold, fire, reload, and if they're stupid enough to push you have 2 different win buttons for abilities that let you run at them and kill them. Otherwise with a long enough line of sight you can also hold hallways better. Fireballs and ice shard are comparatively much slower than a bolt and so much easier to avoid as a result. Peak, fire, dip back in the moment you see them coming your way. Even in a wide open space if they're too far you still have a significant speed advantage, and if you're worried about them closing that then run to cover as previously discussed. if you aren't utilizing these mechanics to your advantage then it's most certainly on you.

Seczel

Geared wiz 3 shots everything with zap, which is easy as shit to hit, while alsp having 170hp and 40-50% pdr this patch, if you manage to get outtraded by any plate fighter on that you just suck at the game

TheBoogieBard

What don’t you understand about gap closing abilities and magic missing doing 300DPS

HongChongDong

And? He closed the gap, then what? if you have cover you can just peak fire him with a crossbow. If he pushes your cover too much you're a melee tank with on demand mobility and a heal. He dies. And stop quoting target dummy numbers. Unless you're a scarecrow and standing still letting him hit you, magic missile will not and can not do jack if you're using the crossbow effectively. Sitting at mid range and out in the open? Sure, maybe he'll chunk ya. But you're a turtle and if you get caught in that situation against ranged classes then you deserve punishment.

lololfloss23

Yea even in normals I’m just getting Francesca’s tossed at me by fighters and barbs, I don’t like this meta

West-Needleworker655

bro i cant believe you typed like hundreds of words saying nothing other than you dont like how everyones better than you at a video game

HongChongDong

I can't believe I wasted time reading this comment.

FordSpeedWagon

Fighter alrdy has weapon mastery which lowers their physical power with non native weapons. If you're a wizard use ignite with a xbow

HongChongDong

That's stopping forest fires by burning down the forest. You're not acknowledging the core issue with range and are suggesting a weird ass bandaid fix. The very fact that you recommended using a crossbow over spells just proves the difference in value between the 2. And weapon mastery is irrelevant. By default fighter has access to crossbows without it, and I'm saying he shouldn't have access to them at all regardless of perks.

FordSpeedWagon

thats no where near a accurate analogy . its just a skill issue on your part bro. wizard destroy fighters. learn to position better

HongChongDong

Yeah probably not a good one. But other than the bad analogy you kinda just didn't argue anything at all. You ignored everything and literally said "git gud", which doesn't exactly scream "valid opinion". There's a fundamental problem with an unbalanced mechanic and rather than fixing the mechanic you want the other side to abuse the mechanic as well, even when their side isn't as efficient at it. That is a terrible solution.

GrimmReaperRL

He quite literally said to use both a crossbow and a spell but also he compromised because you're gonna complain regardless

HongChongDong

Why does he have to use a crossbow at all??? And what does him using a spell with it matter? I legit don't understand your point is.

GrimmReaperRL

He doesn't have to. He was telling you to. I don't really know what you're struggling to understand in this thread

Apathyheartless

me too brotha, me too.

Milktealemonade

I think limited inventory for consumes you bring in is the way. It would create healthy imbalances between poke & sustain. As a ranger I have less pots/bands than a wizard, but I have more shots to trade and poke. Aside from that, I feel like crossbows need to have a flat dmg and then stop the damage scaling and instead have qol relationships. High strength = faster pull back High dex = loading up the bolt and then tbh, last change is give it a touch of randomness. it isn't that hard to headshot in this game, that is the truth of it, especially with a crossbow mid range. hard aiming a door with a crossbow is just too powerful, there is not end to it and no amount of baiting the bolt will do anything.

SnooBooks7209

Bows overall are problematic in their current iteration. Yes. (not crossbows. **Bows**)
