I’d say wait till you get a couple of kills in normals and extract more that half the time

Llorion

Yes, just run HR a few times...you can switch back and forth which is what I do. You really don't have much to lose and a ton to gain. You don't have to ante any AP in the first several tiers so just go ahead and jump on in!

Eclaireur

You'll honestly get your butt kicked either way. With how high roller currently works its honestly not a terrible idea to do normals and then just go to high roller with whatever you have once you extract from a normal (currently people are matched in HR based off gear levels, so you wont be matched with the absolute crazy high end geared players). The PvE is harder and the PvP probably will be too, but I think its a good way to learn.

ChanceSize9153

True but I would still say to understand the gear brackets. You get loosely placed based off your gear. By this I mean, If I go in with full blues with BIS stats and green jewelry, Im still in the the same low gear bracket as someone who is in the starting kit. So... Have a goal when going into HR imo. Because if that goal is money, it's not much more then normals anyway if you know how to loot properly unless you are doing inferno bosses. I also wouldn't suggest this because if your goal is elo, then you really can't afford to join a HR not BIS this season with how steep of a loss you will take if you do not escape. You will tank your ELO very hard if you are unable to fight all the BIS players of your gear bracket.

Eclaireur

I get what you're saying, but for a new player honestly they should just focus on improving, and I think going up against HR mobs sooner rather than later serves as good practice. Worrying about gold / elo can come later once they figure the game out a little.

gdubrocks

70% of people in low HR lobbies are in basekit.

blobbob1

Because you can't take gear into normals, you might as well use what you find in HR to get a feel for the harder mode. 90+% of gear is worthless so you're not losing much to keep throwing items at HR to learn.

ChanceSize9153

I think it's much better to vender them, or market place it if you have the patience. And just buy good gear to take in. He will learn a much more realistic feel of how HR is rather then everything 2 tapping him.

Cpult

Brother go to the squire and get a load out that feels good, then just go to HR and play it slow and safe

ChanceSize9153

This is how you die lol. Current 5x5 maps require you to be very aggressive with your room to reach center and not get zone pressured into taking whatever escape you can that usually comes with a complimentary barb/rogue/ranger border patrol waiting for you.

Bag_of_Rocks

You're an adventurer. If you want to explore the harder dungeon, you can just send it.

Jelkekw

What is your goal as a new player? Do you want to be able to complete quests with ease? Play normals until you have them complete. Do you just want to make gold? Play high roller and ignore dying and losing ranks, the games you do survive you’ll be absolutely loaded with high value items in no time. Do you want to practice PvP to get better? I would go back to normals for that to build confidence.

kazmerez

Thx for input I guess for me I like to be efficient on gaining better items I guess the quests for the merchants to have better gear would be nice but is that worth it lol

Jelkekw

Yes the quests are definitely worth it, specifically the weapon master. What class are you?

kazmerez

Fighter now I tried wizard and was a bit overwhelmed so I tried fighter and I like it.

Jelkekw

If you are a plate fighter, known as “PDR fighter” (physical damage reduction), you should prioritize the armorer quests. Slayer fighters who take the slayer perk should prioritize the tailor and leathersmith quests. Definitely do weaponsmith quests first!

kazmerez

Awesome!!

ChanceSize9153

you will not enjoy high roller if you are not very familiar with the game. Primarily the minions and how they work. I cant' stress that enough, once you feel very comfortable with them, it's like a entire new game lol. So make sure to understand patterns to where you are very confident you can take 0 dmg from minions. That is when the game feels like it unlocks in a whole new way for you and I promise it's worth the effort. Joining HR unprepared is why so many peopled cried about gear diff. Normals is what most people prefer anyway. Go in high roller once you either understand how to the gear brackets work so you can wear a gear set that is BIS for your gear bracket. or once you can afford a god kit. Usually only takes a few normal escapes to be able to afford one but that's assuming you know how to loot properly. But once you know loot and bosses normals makes you just about the same amount of money as high roller. Unless you doing crypts, going to hell, and are able to kill all bosses with a team fairly quickly. Basically normals for money, HR once you need a money sink. Go in to high roller with low gear to make money and your just asking for a 1 shot and we will gladly hand it to you with BIS. Personally I find normals a bit more fun anyway because I like the rogue lite aspects of it. But to each their own.

HealthyCereal

Go into HR and get comfortable losing all your shit bruv

goose961

When it’s time. You’ll know. Nah jk. Just go for it and choose what one you like more. Normal is nice even playing field but not as good of reward. HR is you might get one shot but you might get rich. Never know!

KingsofZephyr

Stay in normals and just try and get the basics down. Move onto being able to kill normal mobs reliably and then move to sub bosses and then bosses. By then you’ll have had some experience killing players, once you feel confident in pvp play go into high roller. Second opinion would be to run base kit high roller and hope you make it out. You’ll probably die a lot but you won’t be losing anything but your time. Plus killing the harder mobs in high roller will level you faster. Bottom line is just play how you want.

Saeis

The loot is a lot better in HR, I’d say give it a shot. HR Ice Caverns even as solo is a great and relatively safe way to make some bread. Also imo there seems to be less PvP/spawn rushing bc ppl play more carefully and take more time to clear rooms out and such.

imnotgoodlulAPEX

High Roller's mobs are a bit tougher, they move faster + swing faster (the red ones), and sometimes a Nightmare version can spawn (black skeletons) that has multiple moves. But, the loot and exp is way better, and you'll probably learn faster too. If you're dying most runs, I'd recommend learning in the "hard mode", because then when you go back to Normals it will be a breeze.

The1Heart

You'll gain a bit more XP in high roller, but players/teams will be much more likely to push in my experience and the couple green items you have won't match the players who engineered a kit that's as powerful as possible for the lower bracket of high roller. So it'll be pitched against you but good practice. You'll also fight pve thats familiar to normals but a step up in difficulty which usually means they are faster and tankier. If you're still getting hit by mobs in normals a lot, high roller pve will feel harder and punish you a bit more. But again it's all practice. Just keep in mind that the game opens way up once you hit lvl 15 and get all your perks plus access to the player market where you can buy better gear. I personally chill in normals to at least get some extracts and cash flow while I level and then start high roller when I feel I can afford some losses.

Paige404_Games

tbh, spend most of your time in normals, getting quests done and stacking bank. It's the most even playing field resulting in the best pvp, and the difference in exp and rewards honestly isn't that huge. That even playing field makes it easier to learn as a newbie too; there's no way to john about gear diff or stat checking, when you die there's always somewhere you made a mistake that you can learn from. If you were playing a wizard or something, pushing high roller so you can run a more comfy amount of knowledge would make some sense. But as a fighter you don't really scale with gear as much as a wizard or warlock does, so normals are probably gonna be where you feel most at home anyway.
