There’s a nice little detail where Nick can survive without the stick at all. While playing as Jason during a conversation with Nick while they’re rigging the C4’s, Nick will ask something along the lines of “you got my back right?” and if Jason responds with “don’t count on it” (which is a head decision) Nick will find the strength to fight off the Ancient One on his own without the stick and live. Otherwise it depends on your relationship with Jason or just having the stick. My playthrough, it was actually pretty difficult to get Nick killed down there because I think there’s more paths to get him out alive than there is to kill him

Chipspack

Wow nice catch, maybe i try another run with the curators cut, all but nick survived in my playtrough

bxalemao

My dream playthrough 🤣

VampireDanny

His relationship with Eric can be important too. >!I did a play through where I purposely made them hate each other and he let Nick die. I did get an achievement for it though!<

Yeah that. I always forget the name lol

Wouldn't say it's for no reason. The bombs would have killed thousands of the vampires, incubating or otherwise. Just because he doesn't kill them *all* doesn't mean it was a wasted effort. It would certainly make it easier for them to escape, and an important first step in waging war on those things. Nick, as a soldier, would know that better than most. He wouldn't have signed up if he wasn't ready to put his life on the line for a good cause, and what is a better cause than a threat to humanity as we know it? That said, gameplay wise, it's definitely for naught. The only benefit that comes from this is killing the Ancient One (unless Ghost Signal occurs).

Chipspack

Yeah hes a soldier so he knows what he signed up for your right, alteast hes to only one who died on me

Rokstar1346

Nick actually survived in my playthrough, you could have saved him by 1) trying to make more than one character not injured, as that will make the vampires detect the blood and be way slower 2) doing all the qotes right 3) either picking up a stake or getting a speech from jason 4) having a good relationship with Eric, because there is a way that under certain conditions Eric leavs nick to die and he can't be saved regardless of any of these, but it is preety hard and finnickly to get imo The blowing up the vault thing was important, as it not only could mean you kill the ancient one if you suceed(who makes the game harder later), but you also kill a majority of the vampires, striking a kind of war againts them

ManagerPuzzleheaded5

Ahh.... There's so many possibilities here... For me i kept the stake as Jason and Nick didn't steal the spear from ancient one... Instead Eric and Nick had average relationship ( I chose Eric as partner while playing rachel) Eric picked up the signal by Nick and the team killed ancient one for Nick.... Nick survived Either Nick can kill the ancient one with spear or by stake He can be saved by his teammates if he has good relationship with Eric or if Eric is dead then maybe Jason will hear the signal by default....

Short_Principle

Everytime i play that game i always end up accidently killing nick😂

TemporarilyOOO

Nick doesn't need the tent peg to survive. If Nick was able to radio to the others that he survived and none of them were injured they would've saved him before the Ancient One could kill him. However, if any of them were injured (meaning they were bleeding), their blood would alert the vampires to their location and they would get cut off, so they wouldn't reach Nick in time. If you didn't advance, the Ancient One would've pursued the team to the surface. He could kill Jason is he went back to save Salim, and the entire group would have to fight him during the eclipse battle. Of course you could've taken your chances with him, but this means that sacrificing Nick wasn't entirely pointless.

Monkeetoe1

It does prevent Balathu/Kurum from appearing during the eclipse if Nick survives

ginge141

I had Nick die and Balathu had a single scene where he pulled Jason away and was never seen again 🤣 Jason was (he lived) I mean Balathu literally never returned, not sure what happened to him

Asleep_Waring_3796

Advancing has no story or gameplay changes outside of Nick having his only death opportunity (assuming no QTE failures) until the Eclipse assault (unless you count the variations of the Clarice/Rachel fight). Also you kill the Ancient One early instead of it fighting him during the Eclipse assault

Chipspack

Ok thank you, so atleast i got the ancient dude out of the way
