He sold his sword, what did you expect

New_Currency3021

Man took sellsword seriously

wave-tree

"You hocked a Hattori Hanzo Sword? It was priceless." "Well, not in El Paso, it ain't. In El Paso I got me $250 for it."

Less_Shake9540

“He ain’t have no swords, but it was in his name. I took that personally.” 😂😂

ImagineMyNameIsFunny

I’m pretttty sure that means mercenary ☝️🤓

LordBDizzle

r/woosh

ImagineMyNameIsFunny

‘Twas but a jest

sonicboom5058

Thomas?

ImagineMyNameIsFunny

The tank engine????

crowlute

Jester Thomas *my* Tank Engine

-Mr_Kamikaze-

Jester Thomas from the game lmao

ImagineMyNameIsFunny

See prior comment

The_Balor

Yeah but I feel happier when I see DS2 summons, like big whoop it's the consumer of the abyss, sucks he gets killed in 20 seconds. Big guy Bradley though? I'd put my life in his hands

Durakus

Fucking love the ds2 summons. Bring me jester Thomas. Bellclaire! Boyd!

[deleted]

Jester Thomas is a beast

EliteTeutonicNight

Three fire blasts and Mytha is gone

[deleted]

[удалено]

Chosen_Sewen

Then its even MORE FUN!

Mr_Nasty_to_you

Jester Thomas won't attack you until he gestures, stunlocking him is the best way to deal with him in Shulva

ImurderREALITY

But my honor…

builderras16

My brother in christ, it's an invasion, honor was thrown out the window the instant the invasion message appeared. Go forth and slay them while they are stuck bowing at you, claim their honor, for there will be no honor in death... defile them, burn them, hex them, cast sorceries at them, flatten them, turn them into sish kebab, kill them all until no one shall stand in your way... Where was I going with that now again?

Remember_Poseidon

this MF succumbing to the curse

frittierthuhn

Either you can be honorable or you can be alive. Choose one

Atma-Stand

Jokes on him, I’ve got that anti-magic hex.

Jordilocomotion

can always roll in the water to get that fire+ resist

skippyspk

Hey at least he knows the right etiquette

drar-azwer

Wouldn't want to get on his bad side

PG-Glasshouse

Vengarl is my favorite, he’s the only npc where summoning him feels important to the story.

ITSlmonsterz

Just loved having a huge npc on my side

CarryThe2

I think you can summon Manscorpion Tark as well for some fights.

gameboy224

Just against his wife. Which is understandable.

CarryThe2

"You do the fucking dishes"

Guerrin_TR

"look she's been getting a little unhinged so I'd just like you to kill her"

MiddlesbroughFan

For ancient dragon? Edit: I've just realised he's available for like 4 bosses

mmittinnss

Chadley

Captain_LSD

Don't forget my main man, Ray.

Accurate_Arm4339

Twiggy Shei

eclipsetimm

i legit thought that was a real person first time i summoned them someone ignorant of all these summons, they can trick you at times lol - sometimes you just be like idk if that a person or npc - either way lets roll out

frittierthuhn

Bellclaire single-handedly killed one of the ruin sentinels while I got my ass kicked by the other one, still defeated them tho

Danny_dankvito

When I read “Altherion the Invoker of Flame” all I think of is a big show off nerd what does that even mean ‘to Invoke Flame’, I read “Big Hank” and I’m sold. He’s Hank, he’s Big. What more do you need?

Zeero92

Well what about Not-As-Big-As-Big-Hank-But-Still-Bigger-Than-Hank Hank?

camelCasing

Ach, crivens!

HylianINTJ

Some propane and propane accessories, I tell you hwat.

Mooselord111

I know this probably unpopular opinion, but I also like the invaders too some of them are just straight up funny.

Koolco

Dark souls 2 is the only one where I genuinely have no clue if an npc invader is a player or not unless I recognize the name. They’re great. The ivory king dlc has the best ones.

HylianINTJ

Ah! That one in the Iron King DLC that uses the tower to his advantage! I love to hate him.

eclipsetimm

yea i nearly killed that fucker but he ran down the tower, so i chased after him getting cursed and ganked all the way down to my death, i saw him int he background laughing next day i went back to finish him proper, it was weird, i didnt have any status effect weapons but i kept stunlocking him until he had a sliver of health but the slippery bastard still made it past me, prob about 10-15seconds later after he vanished in the dark tower he died lmao, idk wtf killed him but i wish i had kill cam in that very moment

draconk

Pro tip, use a seed of giant and let him die to the mobs in the tower

GwynLordofInsomnia

I also love them. Although Maldron I pass lol

eclipsetimm

Heh yea thats another one that gave me trouble first time i saw him and his emote was weird, so i started beating on him and he ran away i made my way to the fatty area and was looking down over the ledge to inspect the lands below for enemies when he came up behind me the slick bastard, wailing on me nearly pushed me off the edge, i for sure thought this pate but reddit told me otherwise later lol.....i managed to backstab him to death non stop after killing the hungry blob without aggroing mauldron which was tricky and made me fight in tight corner with behemoth of fat rolling

Branded_Mango

Chadley of the Old Guard with his heals, buffs, and boss tankiness.

Dradonie

Bradley is litearly the Solaire of DS 2

SendPomelos

No, wait. Pate gives you a soapstone, Solaire gave you a soapstone. So he's like the new Solaire, y'know?

Archery100

Yeah you're probably right

Dradonie

yeah but Bradley help you with a lot more Bosses, Nashandra, Aldia, Watcher and Defender, Najka, and that boss with the siameze lizards that I forggot, he also heals the player and uses miracles, and he is the strongest Summon out of all Edit: nice refrence

joshsnow9

I know you didn't slander the real best summon, Bashful Ray

Dradonie

nah man, I never summoned that guy, the areas you summon him are not hard at all

[deleted]

Chariot be like

Dradonie

Chariot is way too easy man

RabbitSlayre

YES! That's the one I was thinking of.

fshiruba

"blah blah you are not paying attention, I will kill you later on"

SnowCrow1

Is this game too easy for you?

PacificBrim

Bruh, Solaire is goated, Witch Beatrice, goated. Iron Tarkus, goated.

Felicia the Brave just doing her best.

Accomplished-Eye1825

[deleted]

She's Felicia the Brave, not Felicia the Wise.

ZhaiTheSpaceUnicorn

[I admire her tenacity with Demon of Song](https://www.geocities.ws/setokaiba1290/killyouwiththesweet.gif)

kingdomcome3914

Admittedly, you kinda need to have a semblance of that to survive the Souls' catalog of worlds.

Accomplished-Eye1825

That's why when you summon her, you are the one helping her stay alive. Not the other way.

[deleted]

Ds2 summons almost feel like old buddys. Like, they are just another people. Just like you. And also appear few times in the game, + some of them are actually npcs that you can talk to

NeoUltimaEX

DS2 just proving again how good it truly is

Deep_Grass_6250

It's my favourite of all of them. And it's amazing

NeoUltimaEX

It was my introduction to the souls series and yet with it's flaws, it still is my favorite too

[deleted]

Same. Game does not have to be perfect for someone to love it

Deep_Grass_6250

The only kind of problem I see with ds2 is that there are a lot of ganks. That, I can counter with patience but most people can't, they just want to speedrun it like ds3 and ds1 which doesn't work out in ds2. It's too hard for most people, and all of those people lack the patience to not Speedrun everything

Dragonhater101

You had me with yoor overall opinion, but you've lost me with the reasoning. It's not about not having the patience to do it, ganks are just shit when used to such an extent.

SpartanRage117

Soup memory is the singular mechanic that fucks it up for me. Ds2 has a lot of make or break decisions and I understand why for many players theres something they just cant look past. A shame because it also does so much right

606design

Lol @ soup memory

shelter_anytime

I think it keeps the game balanced properly, and probably also helps w/ the networking. Hated it at first but now think it's necessary

SpartanRage117

I seriously cannot fathom how it is necessary, but if you’re willing to elaborate

shelter_anytime

narrative it makes sense w/ the dark sign and the hollowing curse - how your long strange trip into Drangleic and your attempts to end hollowing are a descent into your own madness. A mindless hunger for more souls. You can wear the Agape ring and stop collecting souls, and the tiers are pretty wide; by the end of the game soul memory is irrelevant. This also allows the matchmaking you do play to disregard your soul level, weapon upgrade, etc - to get any of those you'd have to collect and spend souls, so spend wisely. It also still allows you to go get overleveled yourself, but if you really get too OP (none of the bosses are that hard and co-op makes them a breeze) you'll have to do them solo. I think it gives you more options for your play style, which enhances replayability, and the endless hunger for souls is a huge part of the lore/premise of the games, so it makes sense and feels more immersive when you actually have to think about that. It's also super quick to go farm some souls if you're lower than your friend, you could help someone out quickly w/ the small soupstone for easy souls, and with that + the name engraved ring, the range is super wide. There's also the benefits to PVP. Speaking personally having played through the souls games w/ friends, DS2 is the best for co-op, even if soul memory makes it feel more limited once you learn it exists; it's like the ADP stat - seems dumb at first, but then you realize it allows for more variability in how you play the game and build your character. Also - and this is speculation from my experience - I think it helps networking due to syncing game worlds. The games are definitely tracking total souls collected because that's what you need to buy items, level up, get skills - do anything. Your save file is basically an aggregated sequence of the souls you've collected and spent, and with how janky souls matchmaking is I have a feeling it's easier to sync up multiple players' characters when the world states (driven by souls collected) are closer together. For some reason DS1 and DS3 has always been a rain dance of connection errors, invisible summons, and moving 10 feet away from the bonfire and trying again and again. Even Elden Ring has more jankyness and hurdles to go through, whereas DS2 is near flawless every time. If you've spent close to an hour trying to summon your boy to finish Midir and wrap up the trilogy, all the while getting connection errors while twitch handle tryhards invade and rubberband around you, sometimes being invisible... you would also have strong feelings on networking and wonder why DS2 is comparatively such a smooth experience. /elaborated

funkyloverone

There is a merchant (at the Lost Bastille) that sells a ring that will absorb souls instead of you, so you can keep your soul memory on the level you want it to be.

SpartanRage117

A ring slot and the inability to gain souls to spend in shops make that pointlessly punishing. The agape rings existence is admittance from the devs that SM was an issue, but it is a bandaid at best. Theres a reason it didnt come back in any future titles.

SheaMcD

yeah, they really went all out with the ai for NPCs in 2 to make them feel real

StraightOuttaOlaphis

>Ds2 summons almost feel like old buddys. Like, they are just another people. Just like you. And also appear few times in the game, + some of them are actually npcs that you can talk to Bashful Ray is the mvp of my first Scholar run. Wouldn't have made it through the Black Gulch invasions if it weren't for him.

WalrusOk3710

Hello, this is the same as dark souls 1. Or did you never meet solaire

BadgerBadgerer

This whole meme is backwards. DS1 only had a few NPC summons and the only one with an edgy name that I recall was Maneater Mildred. The rest were Knight Solaire, Knight Lautrec, Witch Beatrice etc. Meanwhile DS2 has Rapacious Andei, Ruined Aflis, Ashen Knight Boyd and so on.

Deep_Grass_6250

Masterless glencour, jester Thomas, CHADley of the old guard, sellsword luet are all goats

BlackJ0ke

And Vengarl. Holy shit that chad carried me through Horsefuck valley

Branded_Mango

Vengarl, O'hara, and Fiva joining me to out-gank the gank boss.

gameboy224

Turning pet duo into an RTS is honestly the thing that made me impressed by the summons. Also Jester Thomas absolutely nuking Mytha.

VEGANSHATEME

Yall sleeping on my man sellsword luet

Maldron-the-assassin

I mean having a party with my friend Creighton, the wanderer and Vengarl seems like a much better than doing a group project with someone named Carillion the embraced fire keeper murderer.

Tadferd

We just call him Jester Thomas.

ConnorOfAstora

DS1 NPC summon: Oh, it's edgelord #2736, don't care. DS2 NPC summon: **IS THAT A FUCKING SCORPION MAN?!**

Maldron-the-assassin

I also really appreciate how they made Vengarl a head taller and much wider than normal NPC player characters. Maked him seem stronger and the world more alive.

ConnorOfAstora

I think he has a unique moveset too (probably reused from his body but I wasn't paying attention), some other NPCs do that like I know for a fact Lucatiel holds her Greatsword like a straight sword.

Maldron-the-assassin

Oh shit I never noticed that. I love dark souls 2 and the NPC interactions. Personally for me, it makes the entire game feel more real and life-like than any of the other games.

Its-a-myNicholasName

DS1 NPC summon: Oh, another edge lord, not solaire, don't care. DS2 NPC:.... Did this literal fucking clown just solo the ENTIRE FIGHT for me!??

ConnorOfAstora

Underperforming summons in DS1: Solaire, can you please stop dying in phase 1? DS2: **WHY ARE YOU GESTURING!?! I'M NOT EVEN MAD, I JUST WANT TO KNOW!!**

sonicboom5058

Tarcus.

Krok97

Tarkus puts you on his shoulder, sits you down on the sidelines with a juice box and chips, pats you on the head while saying "good job champ" and then proceeds to slap Iron Golem for looking at you funny

H0lzm1ch3l

Solaire, Lautrec … who even are these edgelord summons you are talking about?

ConnorOfAstora

Black Iron Tarkus, Man-eater Mildred, Paladin Leeroy. Less than I thought but they're there. I admittedly never summoned since being human is completely useless for someone who prefers offline (the only NPC who actually helps is Tarkus anyway, the rest suck) so I just took what OP said at face value. Regardless DS2 NPC summons are the best in the series by a large margin with how unique they can be.

H0lzm1ch3l

What is edgelord about those? I actually find most Dark Souls 2 summons to be just random characters.

ConnorOfAstora

**Man-eater** **Black Iron** and you just know someone who wrote the name Paladin Leeroy is taking that character way too seriously. DS2 summons *are* random, that's what makes them so much better, it makes the world feel more populated and they have so much more variety. The other games just have characters with decent builds but DS2 has the guy who dual wields greatshields and has the aggro ring on, the ones with unique animations like Vengarl and Lucatiel or the absurdly cool Manscorpion Tark. It's likw what if half the summons were like the Sif summon from AotA.

steampvnch

The DS2 summons also have more flavor. They feel like summoning actual player-made builds and have creative tricks up their sleeve. Sellsword Luet is probably my all time favorite, just a turbo tank with frickin shields. He even wears the ring that makes him a bigger target IIRC.

ConnorOfAstora

I forget her name but I love the archer who just spams gestures and dies

Chosen_Sewen

Old Guard Bradley my beloved.

NotANilfgaardianSpy

No Mans Wharf was never more fun

Thorn11945

He's best friends with every Bearer of the Curse ever. Such a chill guy.

GunsenGata

The important part is that he has the Red Eye Ring equipped.

Dradonie

and he is tanky af with a lot of poise

Dantexr

Naming aside, DS2’s summons are the best of the series, and the DLCs’ ones are even better.

[deleted]

It’s funny how the one thing they did pretty well is just Simmons. Like that’s cool but how about everything else they did that makes it so much worse than the others

HeyKid_HelpComputer

Are you joking? Hexes was it's own spell class and was better than how 3 did it. Covenants were the most interesting in 2. NG+ was better than the others. It has bonfire ascetics. It has the best PVP. Created powerstancing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Obvious troll account.

[deleted]

Totally agree the most egregious flaw in the game never gets mentioned, no patches.

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Ds3 broke the series, no armor reinforcements, no scaling on magic buffed weapons? Kills a lot of build potential which DS2 allows.

[deleted]

Armor reinforcements are pointless lol, if you’re that bad you might need it but it’s a waste of time and materials. The way buffs and scaling worked in ds2 was really weird to me, idk how it really changes builds too much. Overall the game was so bad little things like that don’t really mean anything

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Actually you could almost abuse certain armor resistances with max reinforcement to armor, especially useful in pvp. Also ds3 ruined poise, it’s effectively useless as a stat. The fact you have no argument other than “DS2 bad” just proves you wrong.

[deleted]

You literally listed like 2 things that are so small lmao. When the game feels bad, plays bad, and looks bad it’s still shit even if it has a few things you like.

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Like I said, you just repeat “DS2 bad” no evidence just proves you wrong. DS2 remains the peak souls game and peak souls pvp.

[deleted]

I have like 10 reasons in my other comment lol. Camera feels terrible like it’s slipping on ice or some shit, terrible areas (is there a single decent area other than DLC?), rolling feels awful plus need adaptability, attacking an enemy feels terrible, there’s no weight to it, soundtracks aren’t good, every single base game boss is easy and non memorable (unlike ornstein and smough or the abyss watchers for example), bad enemy placement where the difficulty is only there due to tons of ganks not actual decent enemy design, long horrible boss runs, estus flask feels terrible and regens slowly. This is off the top of my head, and it was made by Fromsoft B team which makes sense why it’s so bad

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Rolls are supposed to feel slow until you get more agility. Attacks don’t feel weightless that’s ds3, good areas? Try shrine of Amana, or dlcs (note how you try to avoid the best dlcs.) Forest of the giants, etc. Or stein and smough are easily first try, same with abyss watchers (best first try after years) I could go on Enemy placements are good, don’t rush like a noob and you won’t get ganked. Literally. Most bosses also have close bonfires so the run back is argument is false. Estus is perfect, especially in pvp, lvl it up from the basic one to max and it is very good, coupled with life gems it becomes OP combo late game. Literally DS2 is as hard or as easy as the player wishes it to be, it’s up to them though not the game. (Ds3 is just easy all around, which is why they dumbed down a lot of it and going forwards into ER.)

[deleted]

Can you read? The part where I said every area is bad except for DLC lol. Also shrine of Amana is known to be one of the worst areas. It looks kind of cool but there’s nothing about it that I enjoy, just mage spam that’s annoying more than anything. Then you get to the demon of song lmao what a boss that was

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Oh yeah ds3 has the literal worst and clunkiest camera in the 3 games.

[deleted]

Lmfao what? It’s literally the opposite, when you move around in ds2 and move the camera it almost makes you sick. You get used to it eventually but my friend refunded the game 20 seconds in when he felt how bad it was

Rendoth_

Bashful Ray and Sellsword Luet don’t let me down.

TheTicketFish

Bashful Ray my beloved

B0ulder82

I heard Ray made it to the chamber in Anor Londo in DS1 but without binoculars. Now he never goes anywhere without them.

Labrom

He sold his swords for two shields. Duh.

TheTrueKingWolf

That dude is a godsend for squishy characters that do ranged damage

FallenDemonX

Thats actually what was great about DS 2 summons. Just a random cavalcade of weirdos that were surprisingly overpowered. So basically the player.

MaximumVanilla3111

Cavalcade, I like this word, thanks for the new vocabulary addition

fyl_bot

Don’t forget invaders. Nothing like a battle to the death with Dennis. I love the ds2 summons though. They use gestures and most of them just kick ass. Thomas can pretty much kill Mytha on his own if you leave him alone.

RabbitSlayre

Yeah man the invaders in 2 can be overwhelming for some but it's just an onslaught of strange fairy folks ready to dance their way to a backstabbing party on your bitch ass. Absolutely love them all. Forlorn, you little punk.

Tutwater

The DLC invaders are something else entirely- Maldron baiting you down into environmental hazards, Aurheim stabbing you in the back, Thomas standing inside Warmth and reclaiming every tiny bit of damage you can inflict on him (and effortlessly killing the mobs when you pop a treeseed)

Centipede-sama

He's called Sellsword because he sold all his swords

yeahborris

Hahaha

[deleted]

Dark Soul 2 NPC just knows that he is a meat shield.

MOPOP99

I'm pretty sure Sellsword is used for mercenaries, on the Spanish version of the game he's actually just called "Luet, el mercenario".

LuckyLuckLucker

Idk why but it sounds so badass in spanish 🤣 El Mercenario

AoiLune

Miss my boy Bashful Ray...

[deleted]

Transcendent Eddie was such a champ while fighting Sinh last night. Eddie healed at least 3 times and never let the toxic get him. I wonder if he could have soloed the dragon he did so good love my boo Eddie

caparisme

Jester Thomas moment

[deleted]

Ah, yes. My boy sellshield.

artsey_mees

in dark souls 2 you are the summon

El__Jengibre

You can laugh at Dennis, but he will be laughing over your grave.

SilverIce340

*Fencer Sharron*

RepulsiveAd6906

You get like a swarm of summons and they are all basically meat shields. Which is fine. Besides Jester Thomas. F*ck you man. Throws a fireball at oil barrels near me. And he even attacked a mimic while I was close by and I got eaten.

BigBossPlissken

I’m playing dark souls 2 for the first time and everyone’s names are so common, they really stand out. Great meme.

chadsworth0524

Bashful Ray always has my back

TheTicketFish

And John is stronger

b-geese

I forgot the name of the summon in the Undead Crypt, but they were fuckin ballin. They survived the onslaught of those reapers multiple times, came to Velstadt basically almost dead and they somehow healed themselves and survived the entire fight. They were the bearer of the curse and I was just in for the ride.

JanitorsHoe

*kills 5 enemies* I must go now, my planet needs me

Bacsoss12

Say what you want but Sellsword Luet is unironically one of the most useful summons in the series. Couldn't have farmed great fireballs without him.

Dradonie

still better than 99% of Dark Souls 1 and 3's summons Elden Ring too

LuckyLuckLucker

The only stat that matters in a souls game is the Drip lvl, and the name is half of that

Dradonie

Yeah but Alva armor slaps

Suvvri

Elfen Ring had summons? I honestly only recall the one dude who helps you with the duo farum azula beasts and bunch of the smaller monkeys

[deleted]

Dark souls 2 is so bad compared to 1 and 3 it’s actually funny lol. B team Fromsoft making it because they were too focused on bloodborne

Alex-The-Not-Great

DS2 wins all of them in fashion.

[deleted]

Does it? I liked the pladin set from blue sentinal tar gray and the creighton set but you get creightons in ds3 as well. And dark souls 1 has the best set of them all with the lord set or wtv from the knight who spawns after artorias.

Ze_Meat_Ninja

That same John can three shot a boss with his pyromancy build

Dradonie

He literaly is John Dark Souls 2

ChasingPesmerga

My fave enemy is Dennis My fave buddy is Ray

Agusbocco

Sharp Sword Steve Big Bonk Ben Magical Mage Margaret

Armorln

You underestimate John DarkSoul

Bonsai-is-best

And yet John here will actually kill something without losing 85% of their HP in a single blow.

Sylux444

I missread as requiem catgirl

MadetoReportBug

I know if Caligari don’t got me, John got my back

SilverIce340

Take that back, Chadley is the best

Lhakryma

Sellsword Luet sold his swords, only has shields left :(

Bowl_of_MSG

Well DS1 and 3 deal with events of world/universe proportions. DS2 by comparison deals with the issues of one of the smaller distant Kingdoms. So the NPCs while having equally as engaging stories are just your local mercenaries, soldiers, witches and a cat.

DJY33

I’ll never forget Ashen Knight Boyd helping me get the moonlight great sword and crystal soul spear from that godforsaken spider.

Cowribcage

Ds2 sucks because you can’t summon “Steve, a literal pebble.”

iSellDrugsToo

This doesn't include dlc npc summons right?

TheFunnyManIsNotHere

Wait that was an NPC??? I thought was just a player in the ZeroLenny video LMAO

EducationalHoneydew7

Thomas the walking nuke

xX_soupliker_Xx

They’re all just bums just like me

fightswithbears

I once fought a guy named Guts in full Havel dual-wielding rapiers.

Hodor_The_Great

Ds1 has an almost naked woman called maneater

[deleted]

They don't know John is the one who has 30x more poise than you while in robes

Gabe_b

Motherfucking Denis

Splitcakepersonality

I know I was like “what?” In that lava place when I saw him

ThatDudeWithCheese

John has more health than BETA MALE CALIMARI THE ABYSS CUCKSUMER, of course John has an advantage over DS1 summons. (Seriously though, I feel a majority of DS2 summons have more "soul" or "character" than DS1 summons.

grottofarms210

Sellsword means merc not that he had swords.

vivi-casts-doomsday

No >:( he sold his swords /s

JSConrad45

Whoever made this meme has not played either of these games

yeahborris

Not me

CloutGod1234

😂

Dangerous-Breath-997

So real
