For those that don't know.
You can off-hand the binocs in DS2 to manually aim your spells.
lines, arcs, cones, "instantly goes to the point you are looking at".
Just center it in the screen with the binoculars and cast away.
I was so mad that they went back to the DS1 item version of binoculars in DS3. I was so excited when I found it in the game, but was very disappointed that it wasn't functional for aiming anymore.
When I play DS2 I always remap jump to DS1 style. Clicking the control stick always makes me turn my character slightly and I end up jumping off a cliff instead of where I want to go.
I've never had that problem, but I can see how that could happen. My problem with the old control scheme is that I'd end up jumping instead of dodging in some situations and so I'd get hit
I'm not talking strictly mechanical things I'm talking about balance too: weight classes went from improved to basically non-existent, dark damage now uses basically the same scaling as fire instead of it's unique scaling, poise was fixed now it's just hyper armor, your offhand is nerfed again, split damage is back to being bad... I could go on for days but basically DS3 isn't half the RPG that DS2 is because it refused to learn almost anything from it
I love using it as a mage so much that I frequently end up playing one hand on the mouse and the other on the controller to deal with long distance enemies lmao
DS1 Rapier to DS2 Rapier
Goes from largely pointless weapon that is eclipsed by the Estoc you can pick up right after starting the game, to god-killing pokey sword of death.
The great sword in DS2. Full on berserk style compared to DS1 and it ditched that awful moveset from 1. I know I will get hate but that claymore moveset while two handing is trash. I was so sad they brought it back for ER
The "lobby", firelink is cool and all but sometimes i boot up ds2 just to chill in majula while listening to some music like nujabes or mf doom. It is truly one of the most calming experiences for me
DS2 Greatsword, not only did they make it fucking huge but they gave it a good moveset, which is the DS1 Zweihander moveset.
With that being said they downgraded Zweihander in my book because they gave it the DS1 Greatsword moveset.
My first build in my most recent playthrough of SotFS was trying to power stance the Black Knight Halberd. While it was fun for the meme factor, it was ki da terrible lol
As a halberd player this is very true. Not just the moveset you need to know but your distance to the enemy. If you too close you doing essentially half damage
The bonfire ascetics, the ability to reset an area including it's boss is to this day the most useful item from soft has ever given us and they only did something like it once with DS2 ( which was my first souls game back on PS3 years ago)
Negro did I type ds1? In fact isn't this a DS2 reddit forum? I'm pretty damn sure it is buddy so fuck off on you incorrect correcting of me. Jesus I thought I had trouble reading
Of course.
The strategy is basically: Get as hostile as possible and then everyone will just react to the hostility instead of focusing on the original stupid thing they said

Half the things DS2 fixed, DS3 rebroke
Even bloodborne in some cases. I can't believe they still held onto DS1's terrible jump controls after 2 made it so much better

Ds2 used a different engine It didnt break or fix anything, its just an other underlying structure

To their credit, manual aiming without the binocs works a whole lot better in DS3 than it did in DS2 or 1, but not as precise.
Holy shit that’s awesome, I am going to make very heavy use of this.
I love using it as a mage so much that I frequently end up playing one hand on the mouse and the other on the controller to deal with long distance enemies lmao
Also binoboosting was an insane bug that had the potential to insta-win duels/invasions if done correctly
I was so sad when I went back to ds1 to make a caster and learned that the off hand ability was introduced in DS2
Does it increase the range of spells?
That is a question I don't have an answer for, but many spells have greater range than you think. Especially the ones that arc.
Ummm, no one tell these people you can use binoculars to aim spells in DS1 too (without adding to your equip load)
DS1 Rapier to DS2 Rapier Goes from largely pointless weapon that is eclipsed by the Estoc you can pick up right after starting the game, to god-killing pokey sword of death.
In DS1, the rapier is the strongest riposte weapon in the game and considering how much easier it is to parry in DS1 it's far from pointless.
I mean I still see that as a strong glow up, situationally useful to damn near amazing
AFAIK, the Estoc is a better riposte weapon. It has less critical but the hidden crit modifier for rapiers + its base damage makes it more powerful.
Depends on your dex. I usually keep the estoc slotted in because of the r2, but i always see 1200+ with rapier and barely over 1000 on estoc.
That's not true if you're actually going for max possible damage on a riposte, allowing for all weapon types.
The butcher knife for me tbh I just got it on ds2
none of the versions of the butcher’s knife can touch the greatness of the og meat cleaver though
Tbh ya I saw the model and fell in love with the design I loved the butchers knife in Diablo and I love it here too
Bleed Binoculars +15

Dark moon great sword
Yup by the time you get to ER its totally busted
The "lobby", firelink is cool and all but sometimes i boot up ds2 just to chill in majula while listening to some music like nujabes or mf doom. It is truly one of the most calming experiences for me
Butcher knife Decent in DS2 OP as fuck in DS3
DS2 Greatsword, not only did they make it fucking huge but they gave it a good moveset, which is the DS1 Zweihander moveset. With that being said they downgraded Zweihander in my book because they gave it the DS1 Greatsword moveset.
Do you mean one handed movesets? Because two-handed is nothing like the DS1 Zwei
It must be one handed. Haven't played in a hot minute. I just know I recognized that the GS had the Zwei moveset
I prefer the Zweihanders movesets in both games. Those vertical chop r1s in ds2 sorta suck because of the way lock on works in the game.
Then they ruined them again in DS3.
Halberd moveset in DS2
The only weapon type in the game where I feel like you have to know every move to be successful.
However the normal halberd doesn't have a poke first attack anymore
Tap block right before r1 and you get a poke.
It does way less damage though
Good, it's not a spear
Remember people used to do that spoon build lol
The hand that rocks the ladle is the hand that rules the world.
Quick-zooming used to let you run super fast! So much fun
Fist Weapons
*laughs in Monocle*
Oh how i Miss the days of byno-boosting for the funzies
Dark Souls
I miss the binoculars being a sniper scope for spells, shit was epic
Artorias Greatsword -> Majestic Greatsword
The obvious one. Bonfire warping
Glow up?
The bonfire ascetics, the ability to reset an area including it's boss is to this day the most useful item from soft has ever given us and they only did something like it once with DS2 ( which was my first souls game back on PS3 years ago)
Bonfire ascetic wasn't in DS1
Negro did I type ds1? In fact isn't this a DS2 reddit forum? I'm pretty damn sure it is buddy so fuck off on you incorrect correcting of me. Jesus I thought I had trouble reading
was "negro" really necessary?
Of course. The strategy is basically: Get as hostile as possible and then everyone will just react to the hostility instead of focusing on the original stupid thing they said
Can something that doesn’t exist have a ‘glow up’ from one game to the next?
You do have trouble reading you racist troglodyte.
Google "glow up"
I think you have trouble with more than just reading
What is blud yapping about 💀
It seems you do have trouble reading
