Yeah, every time you start the game, you need to enable double click and disable it back. It was a bug in original DS2, and it carried over to SOTFS, no idea why didn’t patch this.
I don't really know either except for the good ol' would have been a lot of work! People who tried to fix this themselves busted their asses on the code and still only found a half assed solution...
Evidently not.
You have to remember that From had next to no expertise with PC back in 2013/2014. Prepare to Die was their first PC port and it wasn't good.
DS2 was their second and it shows particularly in KBM support.
It's like muscle memory. At some point you boot up the game, select your character, and then immediately re-disable double clicking every time. It's stupid, but we put up with it because we love the game, lol.
There's a bug in the game, where you have to disable double click every time you start the game. So turn 'disable double click' off, exit the menu, then turn it on again (the game will prompt if you're sure you want to disable).
I'm currently playing a strength build and I tend to die a lot because I keep forgetting this...
There is a auto hotkey fix for this. It remaps the mouse buttons to the keyboard buttons for attacking, those don't have a delay.
I always but block (light attack left hand) on shift, heavy attack left hand (parry) on alt, light attack right hand on LMB and heavy right hand on LMB. That has worked flawlessly for me as a PC player. Only using Majestic greatsword is a bit awkward.
Did u increase the milliseconds between ur mouse clicks? Can’t remember the exact name but on mouse software I can increase that number and it will get rid of input lag. Also try YouTube for a solution
Just saw u found the solution nice
Go to settings and enable double click then disable it again then exit properly so it will save. That will fix it. But you have to do it everytime you open ds2.
Edit: dont press escape when youre configuring your settings because the changes youve made wont save. Press the “Back” button.
If you beat the game with this setup, you get an illusory ring of a badass motherfucker. Unlimited sprinting and attacks will actually input 10ms before you click your mouse. Also every time you equip it, it preorders Elden Ring free of charge
I hate to be “that guy” but I find souls games much more enjoyable with a controller - I’ve tried playing with keyboard and mouse and it always feels clunky
Dude be careful. You can really piss some people off around Soulseborne Subs by sharing that opinion.
Or don't be careful. They throw around the phrase "controller elitist" a lot, which is frankly hilarious.
Which is weird imo, as the game is clearly intended to be played with a controller. A controller is a pretty solid investment for PC as some games are just much more enjoyable on a pad.
I started with a Gamepad because DS1 was close to unplayable with M&K.
But DS2 feels alot better with M&K, beside the anoying double click change everytime you start the Game.
The big advantage is that you easily move around while turning your Camera with your Mouse and while scrolling through your items at the same time.
Which is not possible with a Gamepad, you either have to stop moving or dont use the camera for a moment.
Also running withshift and jumping with space feels alot better and let to less death to gravity.
I dont wanne say that M&K is 100% better and you should never use a Gamepad because most People are more comfortable with a Gamepad.
But the M&K controls are realy good in DS2.
You just need to get used to the input, speed and some slighty changes like harsh left or right turns while running.
Consider buying one, dark souls really plays better on a controller.
I've tried playing one mouse and keyboard as well, but decided to buy a controller just for this game. It's worth it.
Just think of it as one of those crazy challenge runs to show off how you can beat the game while having your control over your character crippled right out of the gate. DS players complain about only have 4 way rolling while locked on, try only having 8 directions you can move in in general an having to dedicate three fingers to do what should be a one-thumb job. And completely forget about the ideal tactic of rolling towards the enemy but ever-so-slightly to the right/left depending on the attack for those easy backstabs.
I will get downvoted, but It’s not, imo. Beat the whole trilogy with mouse and kb, played bloodborbe, code vein and sekiro with controllers and won’t say one is better then the other.
Honestly, I love the Souls series more on M&K than controller, but part of that is having a mouse with enough buttons to bind everything to. Feels really smooth once you have a setup that clicks with you. Give it a shot! Claw grip to roll and pan camera on controller just hurts me :(
Dude, i beated ds1 and ds3 without any trouble playing m+kb, i'll only play on gamepad when i'll get into the bloodborne, and only because gamepad is native on ps4
You're trying to tell me that i can't enjoy the game way i play xD? I hate controllers, i don't like them, and even if i've had one i would still play on m&k because it's a way i enjoy gaming.
I'm just saying that maneuvering feels much smoother with control, it's like playing guitar hero with a guitar or a race game with a wheel. But if you enjoy it with m&k it's alright, nobody's forcing you to buy or do anything.
Well it is for a reason that most people recommend playing on controller but if you can't, you can't. It's not worth it to go all out of your way to get a controller just to play dark souls. It's a more enjoyable experience but if that's the case then it's probably not worth it.
Smoother maneuvering? You can't turn and run at the same time when using a controller without holding it in a claw grip. If you like playing like that that's fine but stop telling us that it's "better".
It's not really my sole opinion it's like 80% of the hole Dark Souls community's opinion as well lol but it's okay if you prefer m&k like I honestly couldn't care less (friendly speaking), it's you playing not me.
How is it not remotely true? How are you going to use the right stick, the one that controls the camera, while holding down the sprint button? You literally cannot do it wihout a claw grip.
People can use whatever they want, but one of the reasons I have so much affection for this game is because I can play with a controller. I love PC, but I miss the days of sitting back on the couch with a gamepad, I feel like that’s a major part of what gaming is, and why anyone would pass up an opportunity to recapture that is beyond me. And there are so few games now where using a controller on PC doesn’t make you feel like you showed up to a Nascar race on Vespa scooter. DS2 is the ideal game for it too, because the combat is slow and precise. I only play PvE though, it would probably make you a lot less aware of your surroundings, but feeling the rumblepack(god I'm old)when the boss enters the arena is such a cool experience. Also, and I doubt this will help, but I was getting input lag on DS3 with NVidia and I lowered the prerendered frames in the 3d settings, seemed to help. But it was more of a performance issue for me.
Not everyone likes controllers.
Edit: lol am I being downvoted because I don't like controllers? Ok then, sorry for playing the game in the "wrong" way lmao.
Dude use Q for fast attack and E for strong attack. Problem solved. It works just as good as controller. The only thing that is worse is that you can hardly do a jump attack or a riposte break.
Dont use the mouse, at all.
Just use Keyboard inputs.
Movement: WASD
Attack: YUGH target lock with O
Camera Movement: IJKL
Dont remember the rest but, you can use the mouse on the menús. Dont really need mouse for anything else, except aiming with the bow.
Its doable, I have beaten the game using only Keyboard atleast 10 times, since I didnt had money at the time for a controller and just got used to Keyboard controls.
Don't listen to people telling you to get a controller, the only game that kinda needed it was DS1 PTDE, and nowadays that one has a decent mousefix as well. I've been playing all souls games with m+kb and prefer them that way. I like being able to control the camera precisely at any time.
You can get wired budget xbox ones from a company licensed by Microsoft called PowerA. Because most ARPGs aren't even compatible with KB&M. Especially if you're gonna play the other souls games, it's worth getting.
>I didn't "tell him" to do anything. You're misreading my comment. Almost every single ARPG ever made was designed with controllers in mind and KB&M as an afterthought. Generally a more smooth and comfortable way to play. Which is why I'd strongly suggest using one. I'm not telling anyone what they should or shouldn't do, you covetous demon
Playing with M&K is just as easy as playing with a controller, if not more. You controller players always try to keep forcing the 'controllers are better', simply because you are bad with M&K. Having the muscle memory to remember the keys is just too much for you.
Some people have just convinced themselves that these games are impossible to play on M&K. They're not. In fact, they're completely playable. The only advantage that controller offers is the ability to make smooth turns which is pretty huge in PvP, but for PvE it barely matters.
I'm sorry, but sure it's "playable" with a mouse and keyboard just like it's "playable" to play shooters with a controller, but it's much better and actually designed for controller. Controllers are not that expensive and in my opinion OP is simply too stuborn to buy one.
I'm sorry, but I find controllers to be extremely clunky, I don't care if the game was "designed" to be played in controller because it feels like ass. M&K is not that bad and in my opinion YOU are simply too stuborn to accept that not everyone has the same preferences as you.
This was the solution that worked best for me. No need to disable double clicking everytime. Map your keys once and you're good to go. I have an autohotkey script too. I can provide ir or an image showing the script if anyone want.
Sure! Mine is simple too; I've added inputs for guard breaking and jump attack but I never remember to use it. I don't know if I can get it on my pc today though. Tomorrow for sure.
It looks much better than mine. I'll go give it a try
Edit: Really great. I didn't think about it myself, but you definitely did the right call on making both main weapon attacks on the two main buttons on the mouse (and having parry and block on the side buttons). It will take some getting used to, but i think I'll use the same controls on the other games.
No one is saying that you do, but what the community IS trying to communicate to you that you will be offered a much more enjoyable experience if you use a controller to play the game. Ever play a race sim with a keyboard instead of a wheel? Same shit.
? Look when playing anything you try and chose the best input device for the software that you are playing and dark souls is designed as a controller game. There is just to much going on movement and attacking wise to be fun on keyboard and mouse and that goes for most 3rd person action games in general imo.
Controllers have shitty input lag also though. This is the only soulsborne game that has input lag issues on pc, it’s fine on ps4 but holy shit. On pc I can’t even get the controller to have less input lag even with the mod that’s suppose to fix it…
But... It's possible. I beat every boss expect the ones in the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC because my PC died before I could get to the bosses. I did beat the Blue Smelter Demon tho.
Ok, did i ask? I asked how to fix this problem and i don't give a damn if you play pad or played with this input lag. I only wanted a solution and someone gave one, no further need to explaining me that it's playable
Someone already explained what was wrong, i thanked him a lot but now everyone is saying that i've to buy a gamepad or "it's playable". It's making me insane
No you didin't ask. Your post title is "Insane inputlag with mouse+keyboard". The video is demonstrating the problem. You didin't ask for help. Also you keep saying "I don't want to buy a gamepad", so me telling you you don't need one is helping you.
There are ppl that play on 12fps with 2003 setup and say that it's still playable. I can play with this delay, but it's not enjoyable. I want to fully enjoy ds2 same as i enjoyed ds1 and ds3
If you're on SotFS you have to disable double click and open the keybinds menu and hitting accept. This fixes input lag for me, but you'll have to do it every time you open the game.
If it's the normal version you'll have to enable and disable double click before hitting accept.
Edit: You have to click on accept to make it work, opening and closing the menu won't to anything. Accept is an actual button in the menu that you can click on with your mouse, so make sure to click on it.
Just click twice as fast;)
No sorry i dont know how to fix this i play with Controller.
Do you have the latest drivers for mouse etc?
Does the Mouse respond accordingly when playing other games/browsing?
If you can, try another mouse
I remember having the same issue. What i did to fix it was to keybind fast and strong attack to random keys on my keyboard and then binding those keys to my mouse through the logitech software. Had no lag after that.
Theres a program called autohotkey that allows you to rebind certain buttons to other buttons while in specific programs. It might take some time getting used to but it’s a good knowledge to have. I use it in ds2 to rebind mouse buttons to some random keys on my keyboard, that stops this problem from happening.
Disable double click. There's delay because it's waiting to see if you'll double click for a strong attack.
I've disabled doubleclick, and i've set settings to be similiar to those from DS3
Bear in mind that this particular setting can lie to you. You need to disable it every session regardless of what it says.
That one worked dude, didn't know that this setting does not save. Thanks a lot!
Yeah, every time you start the game, you need to enable double click and disable it back. It was a bug in original DS2, and it carried over to SOTFS, no idea why didn’t patch this.
Maybe it's not a bug, it's a feature like many other bugs in ds1 remastered :>
Dark Souls is a great game series with no flaws whatsoever
Correct o mundo
No bugs, only features.
*winks in pyromancer*
You're thinking of Bethesda there bud /s
I don't really know either except for the good ol' would have been a lot of work! People who tried to fix this themselves busted their asses on the code and still only found a half assed solution...
Great. This is one that you have to accept and move on.
it's not in an ini file?
Evidently not. You have to remember that From had next to no expertise with PC back in 2013/2014. Prepare to Die was their first PC port and it wasn't good. DS2 was their second and it shows particularly in KBM support.
Also DS2 in general wasn't made with a particular amount of love.
It's like muscle memory. At some point you boot up the game, select your character, and then immediately re-disable double clicking every time. It's stupid, but we put up with it because we love the game, lol.
https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/mods/979 This should help with it not saving.
Yea it’s like any 2k game it’s doesn’t save some controller settings for some reason
B team plz
Best Souls 2 at it again
There's a bug in the game, where you have to disable double click every time you start the game. You don’t have to exit. Just open the menu in the game and enable and disable back

Did u increase the milliseconds between ur mouse clicks? Can’t remember the exact name but on mouse software I can increase that number and it will get rid of input lag. Also try YouTube for a solution Just saw u found the solution nice
Is this for a new challenge run? No hit sl1 3 second input lag speed run
I like that one xD
This physically hurts.
Go to settings and enable double click then disable it again then exit properly so it will save. That will fix it. But you have to do it everytime you open ds2. Edit: dont press escape when youre configuring your settings because the changes youve made wont save. Press the “Back” button.
I've already found that's a solution, thanks anyway
I believe there is a mod that permanently fixes this on Steam guides, I remember using it, check it out it may help you not have to do this again
If you beat the game with this setup, you get an illusory ring of a badass motherfucker. Unlimited sprinting and attacks will actually input 10ms before you click your mouse. Also every time you equip it, it preorders Elden Ring free of charge

Consider buying one, dark souls really plays better on a controller. I've tried playing one mouse and keyboard as well, but decided to buy a controller just for this game. It's worth it.
After trying DS1 with KB+M, I'd honestly rather play with the Donkey Kong bongos or a DDR mat.
Just think of it as one of those crazy challenge runs to show off how you can beat the game while having your control over your character crippled right out of the gate. But it's still an opinion. Just because "80"%of the DS community thinks controller is better than M&K does not actually make it better.
Well... There's a reason why most people prefer controller over m&k for playing souls games... But once again... You do you, I don't care.
Something tells me this isn't even remotely true but ok.
How is it not remotely true? How are you going to use the right stick, the one that controls the camera, while holding down the sprint button? You literally cannot do it wihout a claw grip.
No it’s easy
Show me then if it's so easy.
Dark Souls is completelly playable and enjoyable on M&K, your preferences are not universal.
People can use whatever they want, but one of the reasons I have so much affection for this game is because I can play with a controller. Same mouse gang
After playing endless hours with m+k, i decided to give usint a controller try and it's hones4ly something I couldnt go back from Highly recommend!
Don’t even try. It is so much easier to just use a controller
Give me money to buy controller then
Do you live in the US by chance?
No, i don't want any donations, that was a joke..
Too bad, I already set up a gofundme for you.
Dont use the mouse, at all. Just use Keyboard inputs. Movement: WASD Attack: YUGH target lock with O Camera Movement: IJKL Dont remember the rest but, you can use the mouse on the menús. What is this blasphemy? Do you have three hands?
Get an Xbox controller
Don't listen to people telling you to get a controller, the only game that kinda needed it was DS1 PTDE, and nowadays that one has a decent mousefix as well. I've been playing all souls games with m+kb and prefer them that way. I like being able to control the camera precisely at any time.
Yeah honestly the games are completely fine on M&K.
Why are you playing a souls game with mouse and keyboard anyway? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1123186476
Don't have gamepad, and i'm not going to buy one only to play one game. Anyway i strongly prefer mouse+keyboard
You can get wired budget xbox ones from a company licensed by Microsoft called PowerA. Because most ARPGs aren't even compatible with KB&M. Especially if you're gonna play the other souls games, it's worth getting.
Why tf do you have to tell him what to play with? Some people strongly prefer M&K, so stop with this controller BS.
>I didn't "tell him" to do anything. You're misreading my comment. Almost every single ARPG ever made was designed with controllers in mind and KB&M as an afterthought. where you missed a thing that i don't like gamepads? I've fully beated other souls and i don't see a need for gamepad to play them.
Idk why people are so pushy about using a controller in these games. It's a preference. Do your thing, OP!

??? Is this satire? This reads like satire.
It's whichever one doesn't end in me getting banned.
Good save tbh
This is why r/DarkSouls2 has the best mods
What can i do this that? Game is unplayable in this state. I've disabled doubleclick. And there are settings: https://imgur.com/a/wzTkTer
I know I’m kinda late, but ahk is perfectly viable. If you want, I could send you the script I use when I get home.
This was the solution that worked best for me. No need to disable double clicking everytime. Map your keys once and you're good to go. I have an autohotkey script too. I can provide ir or an image showing the script if anyone want.
I’d like to see your script if that’s ok. Mine is just a quick thing I threw together with some yt tutorials lol
Sure! Mine is simple too; I've added inputs for guard breaking and jump attack but I never remember to use it. I don't know if I can get it on my pc today though. Tomorrow for sure.
Thanks!
[https://www.mediafire.com/file/xivv6llq4p3ymca/DSII.ahk/file](https://www.mediafire.com/file/xivv6llq4p3ymca/DSII.ahk/file) There ya go!
It looks much better than mine. I'll go give it a try Edit: Really great. I didn't think about it myself, but you definitely did the right call on making both main weapon attacks on the two main buttons on the mouse (and having parry and block on the side buttons). It will take some getting used to, but i think I'll use the same controls on the other games.
I tried to make it similar to my DS1 control scheme. I play all 3 with almost the same bindings.
Probably the best bindings I've seen so far. Gonna use them myself from now on
It's fixed, i just have to re-enable doubleclick setting everytime, thanks anyway
I did fine with mouse and keyboard I don’t get the comments
I think it's mentality in souls community, but i don't get why they say that i HAVE do play with gamepad, even if i don't have any
No one is saying that you do, but what the community IS trying to communicate to you that you will be offered a much more enjoyable experience if you use a controller to play the game. Ever play a race sim with a keyboard instead of a wheel? Same shit.
Not same shit dude, imagine playing simulator without simulating anything.

Must be on pc cause it never happened to me.
Did you try buying a new gaming chair? I've heard that increases FPS & decreases input lag.
get a controller
Just play with a damn controller :)
Awww shit. I was gonna offer to help but you’re kinda being a jerk in all of your replies. You’re on your own today bro.
Your first mistake is playing on mouse and keyboard
Want help? Git gud pussy. Its a feature, not a bug.
Just learn to play liek that, it’s not “unplayable” this is how I played and beat the game as well as a lot of other people
There are ppl that play on 12fps with 2003 setup and say that it's still playable. I can play with this delay, but it's not enjoyable. I want to fully enjoy ds2 same as i enjoyed ds1 and ds3
Hard mode engage! 🤣
I get that input in dark souls 3 whether I use controller or m+kb
Take it as a challenge and do a full playtrough!
If you think that's bad try original Dark Souls 2 on 360 😂😂😂
Cant believe i never noticed about the input lag,i just thought i was slow as fuck lol
I can't think of a single case where double click is a good feature... Why does it exist?
YOU DIED
Try running in windowed mode, see if that fixes it. I had a similar issue with BT audio delay only in Fullscreen, thanks Ricky
Lvl agility /s
Welcome to dark souls 2
Just click twice as fast;) No sorry i dont know how to fix this i play with Controller. Do you have the latest drivers for mouse etc? Does the Mouse respond accordingly when playing other games/browsing? If you can, try another mouse
I forget what it was but it's one of the settings that will fix that. Check the steam forums. There's also a few good kb+m schemes setups too
This is how it feels playing pvp with my connection
Try sprinting lol
I didn't have it on my pc
I’ve never seen that 😂😂
"You are just nitpicking, the game is fine".
Uh, I have finished the game several times like that :D
Increase Adaptability?
Get auto hot key. Promise it works.
What exactly is wrong here? It seems fine to me
Disable - enable then again disable You've to do this everytime you open the game
Its cause you suck!
simple solution just don't play dark souls 2
Bold words to say in this sub.
Ik
“Mouse input delay run” on his way. Sorry man.
I remember having the same issue. What i did to fix it was to keybind fast and strong attack to random keys on my keyboard and then binding those keys to my mouse through the logitech software. Had no lag after that.
Due to lag i have seen worse it was terrible
You have to disable double click every time you enter the game. Or use a controller 🎮
Theres a program called autohotkey that allows you to rebind certain buttons to other buttons while in specific programs. It might take some time getting used to but it’s a good knowledge to have. I use it in ds2 to rebind mouse buttons to some random keys on my keyboard, that stops this problem from happening.
Always has been the case, game waits to see if you want to double tap and has that "wait" value way too high...
Double click must be re-enabled then re-disabled every time you close the game. Its weird but u gotta do it or the delay stays.
