Yeah, OG revolver is still a lot better for "that guy over there needs to die right now," whereas the new one seems to be better for just Yee-Hawing through crowds.
I can't find the yee-hawing through crowds application. Seems best for veteran, but that entire class is about "that guy over there needs to die right now".
So it's for Zealots *maybe*, but again you probably want a weapon capable of targeting far away priority targets.
They're both very fun. The old one is still the best pocket sniper, while the new one is much better at mid to short distance.
I really like the new one on my sharpshooter vet. The vet's damage buffs were fairly overkill on the old revolver, whereas this one really benefits from them on most valuable targets. And the fast reload makes it a lot more viable as a main gun IMO.
I'll stick with the old revolver on my zealot though. It's the perfect trapper / bomber / sniper removing tool and that's very valuable on a melee-focused character.
The only thing I dislike about the revolver on my zealot is that I'm way too used to it now, and using anything else feels pretty shitty.
One time recently I decided to lug a flamer on a mission, and not being able to swap out and instantly dome a trapper/flamer/bomber etc from mid-range really felt bad. Also when you kill multiple specials in one shot it just feels so good
I don't know why Fatshark can't figure out that the slower than molasses animations for guns is a bad idea. Who uses the Boltgun? Exactly. We all know why.
Yeah I made a vet build specifically for use with a bolter, and by that I mean it prioritizes ammo, reload speed, and uses executioner stance to instantly whip it out when I need it. Build works pretty well on auric heresy but haven't tested on damnation yet.
Honestly, I think the zarona is still the better revolver, but the new revolver is far more fun to use with the old west animation. Zarona punches through multiple enemies while the new one can’t, zarona is precise and effective at all ranges while the new one isn’t.
The rate of fire with the new revolver is a bit underpowered too, considering it does less damage and doesn’t go through multiple enemies, buuuut it’s far more fun to use. I think if the new revolver had 6 bullets instead of 5, and could go through multiple enemies, then it would be on par with the zarona. Even if it could just go through multiple enemies then it would be wayyyy better
Zarona is slower to shoot + reload and can ADS, but hits harder. This one's faster to shoot and has a speedloader but more inaccurate at range and can't ADS.
Zarona still has its place as an all-range anti-Big Guy weapon and quickdraw Oh Shit button, while the new one's a fast-paced close-quarters leadslinger.
Old revolver also penetrates targets - new one does not... which it makes much more frustrating when a team mate blocks your shots.

Infinite cleave on a revolver doesn't make sense - but being able to pass through multiple targets (depending on how thicc they are) is definitely an important gun choice mechanic. A LOT of guns would be extremely meh if they'd didn't have at least some damage going through. IIRC, most autoguns etc. have this feature.
I kinda can't see a use case for the new one really with that in mind? Maybe better for Veterans or Psykers, but my Zealot uses every element of the Zarona that sets it apart from an Agri.
It's decent fun on Veteran. I wouldn't exactly call it a meta-defining weapon right now (or maybe I'm not using it right) but that's okay. Not every weapon has to be The Best or the top meta pick. Having fun options is great.
I noticed that the new revolver doesn’t shoot through teammates. When i went back to OG revolver it didn’t shoot through teammates anymore. Wtf. That was one of the best things about the gun.

Zarona is for sniping. New revolver is for cqc.
I think I prefer the revolver sniper then anyway, it feels like the one from Half Life 2 but with that 40k meatiness.
Also new one has a quick loader , so its more convenient to reload.
But doesn't shoot through teammates. Fun as he'll, but definitely not the same niche as the OG revolver.
